They provide audio visual for business meetings, which was a huge help for us. We had a dedicated bartender/waiter for our group and he was amazing! FRESH! You can definitely tell the fish and produce are fresh, and that is the most important quality to have for a seafood place, in my opinion. We went during DC's Restaurant Week so reservations were a must. When we walked in, the male host was very friendly, but the hostess who walked us to our table wasn't friendly or personable at all, not even greeting us or smiling. I had asked a question and instead of politely saying "no, etc.", she proceeded to answer with an attitude. That turned me off immediately but our server, Noura, was phenomenal and made up for the previous. For appetizers, we got the ceviche that was spectacular, and not as acidic like most other places, and got the spicy tuna avocado roll, that was very good, as well. Entree: seafood gumbo- a bit more thick than how I've previously had gumbo, but still delicious! It was LOADED with shrimp, crawfish, muscles and sausage. It also had a bit of a kick so I didn't need to add hot sauce The flounder was MASSIVE! We got the sauce on the side so that the skin would stay crispy. The fish was very meaty and of course, very fresh. For dessert, we got the bread pudding and creme brulee, both very good and not very sweet. My best friend and I went here for dinner and were really excited to try the sushi and seafood. We were severly disappointed by almost every dish . The sushi tower was super fresh and an ok price for the amount. My issue was how the nigiri and sashimi were cut. It was sooo thick. Thick to a point of feeling weird to chew. We ordered ousters and the fried calamari, which we enjoyed. Now dinner.... i ordered the crab cake special $55 and the ceasar salad as my side. I was excited about the salad since it came with fresh anchovies. However, when it was delivered to the table there were no anchovies, and the dressing was just nasty. The crab cakes were fine, but the sauce that was supposed to be on it was missing. My friend ordered the sword fish, which was not cooked to the temperature we asked. Our server Tim was decent. Overall, we had close to a $300 bill and ill never go back there. read more

We went there for my niece's birthday. Tried to make a reservation for 8 people at 6pm. They told us all their tables are full. Fine. I asked if they can give us two tables of 4's next to each other. They claimed they cannot. Then they told us if we come at 5pm. Probably. Wow. Customer service is really lacking. Feels like they won't even try to accommodate. So we winged it and was there around 545pm. They seated us outside with is fine. Weather was nice. So then we asked if it's ok if we put the two tables together. Again. No. We asked if they can keep the birthday cake in the fridge. They said they will charge us $4/plate!!!??!!! What the heck! Definitely NOT coming back. The waiter was sweet and great. Food was okay but not worth what they are charging. I've had way better sushi. Rice was too mushy. Charbroiled oysters was good. Oh. The one good thing they did was giving the birthday girl a complimentary dessert. So that's the one star. read more

It was a rather dismal experience, the waiter seemed to be overworked as they were covering inside and outside. They greeted us with a bit of an eye roll and a hurried attitude and some snark. It would have been nice if the food came out in a hurry, but we were pretty much left alone with our bottle placed far from our table. Items came out very slowly, the fish tasted frozen and then heated. The lights were overly dim, and we sat and waited for a long while for our food. Our waiter really didn't care at all how our experience was, whether we were receiving food or beverages and made it clear that we should be grateful that we received anything at all. The food was a meh, but the worst part of all is that we both woke up in the middle of the night and had to vomit. That was a first. So paid close to $200 with tip for 2 people to be treated rudely, receive shoddy food and actually get sick in the middle of the night from it. Worst service I've had in a long time! Made dinner reservations last night to celebrate our anniversary. Got seated upstairs. Our server was Noura and she was an abomination. The server didn't introduce herself. She didn't acknowledge my wife at all. It wasn't busy upstairs. I think she had only one other table besides us. She took our drink order. Then took our apps order. Apps took so long to come to our table (and we just ordered oysters and a sushi roll.) I had to wave her down several times for her to stop by our table for me to ask about our apps. When she came back to take our entree order, she didn't even mention the special of the evening. I had to ask "do you have any specials tonight?" Did she forget about telling us what the specials were?? Which she then said it was the yellowtail, which I ordered. My wife ordered the scallops. The server didn't describe the special correctly at all as she said it came with green beans, which it did not. My yellowtail wasn't very good. It was bland. And my wife's scallops were undercooked. The server wasn't attentive to our table at all, even when there were no other tables that she was helping on the floor. She was even sweeping up the floor in the corner rather than to pay attention to us! And, when we closed out our tab, she wasn't even there. It seemed like she had left without saying a word to us. Another server took our check and then returned with my credit card. It really felt like the server was angry at us for some reason and then treated us rudely all evening. Of course, this ruined our anniversary dinner. We usually enjoy dining at Passionfish. We oftentimes celebrate special occasions there for the food, ambiance, and service. It is our favorite brunch place, too. But, last night was truly disappointing. The service was horrendous. And, the food missed the mark. Do better, Passionfish. I love this place. Every time I come here, the food and service impress me. I love a place with excellent service and this place is that. Their vibe is relaxed sophisticated, nothing too fancy or too casual. We have tried everything on their menu, our favs are the red curry lobster pot, the peanut crusted halibut, and always get the flounder. The sushi and appetizers are delicious too! Favs are the dynamite roll and the grilled octopus. Our waiter was Max and he made my birthday so special. Way more special than the highly rated DC restaurant that I went to the other night. What I like about this place is some of the staff has been there since the beginning. Always nice seeing the familiar faces like Alan, John and Damian. I've been traveling so much for work lately so it's no surprise I ended up in the Reston town center for a few days. I walked around for a while before deciding on passion fish for a late lunch and I'm so glad I did. I had a glass of wine and some small plates and everything was wonderful. I had the salmon roll, the ceviche and the potstickers and I'm honestly sad I can't pop in here for happy hour more often. My friend and I stopped by for happy hour and our experience was amazing. I made reservations prior and we were seated as soon as we got there. We ordered oysters, Argentinian beef empanadas, crudo spoons of the day, Bloody Mary oyster shooters and the spicy salmon maki roll. Everything was delicious especially the fish. We loved the crudo spoons as you get the tasty salmon and tuna per bite. The oysters were delicious and can't be passed up during happy hour. Highly recommend this place if you want quality happy hour food and drinks. Parking here is very easy to find as they have a garage 2 mins away. FYI its free after 5 PM on the weekdays. I went here for a company event and it was fun! We had drinks and snacks! In the event room (in the back of the restaurant), they had a bar area that they served wine and beer at. It was nice, but the wine selection was very limited. Not sure if it was a company thing, ya know "we only want to pay for these ones" type thing, but the wines were still good. The issue I had with the place was that all the food tasted and smelled like fish... even the key lime pie tarts. I couldn't eat much since I don't like the taste or smell of fish. They had burger sliders that were pretty good, but they too smelled like fish. I'm not sure if they put them all in the same fridge, but it was very unappetizing. The ambiance is nice; it's in a nice part of the town center, and the everyone on the staff is extremely nice. Parking is always bad in the town center, so it took me a bit to find park and walk over. read more

PassionFish has been my fave spot in RTC for quite some time as evidenced by my prior reviews. We've been there for brunch during Covid but decided to go for lunch with the nice weather and patio seating. I realize times have been tough on restaurants during the pandemic so can understand, however, I was quite surprised while looking at the menu and the previously outstanding lunch menu has been replaced by the dinner menu. $59 crab cake for lunch?? $26 Seafood Cobb Salad?? $29 Seafood Gumbo??? $38 for Grilled Branzino?? No crab cake sandwich?? Wow...I understand prices have gone up but eating a giant meal for lunch isn't very conducive for folk's waistlines either. The food is still top notch but is the value there for a lunch? I have to say no...I'll keep my review at 4 stars but really it is 3 stars for lunch. Came to this PassionFish location to celebrate a co-worker's retirement. Had lunch in the private room in back of the bustling main eating room: private room was nicely appointed with high ceilings, fairly spacious even with an odd shape, and had a nice set-up for bar service in the corner. Perfect, I think, for small/mid-size holiday parties or private events. Food was tasty from the starters (had a butternut squash/lobster bisque which was odd-sounding but turned out to be absolutely amazing), entree (grilled mahi mahi which was good but not fantastic, fish was not evenly cooked and it was drowning in a pool of polenta that was a bit bland), to dessert (a chocolate mousse crunch concoction topped with a bright blue molten filigree sugar piece). I'll definitely want to go back to choose off the regular menu. Service was, unfortunately, REALLY slow. This might have been because it was busy and we were there at lunch, but we started at 11:30 and at 2:00 pm we were *just* getting to dessert (and no coffee offered). read more

Stumbled by this restaurant on a Friday night, looked like there were good vibes and the menu looked enticing. Was super glad to have given it a chance!! The interior is pretty classy and fun - gave me classy cruiseship looking vibes haha. There was a separate bar area, and also an expansive dining area, including an upstairs. Although a good amount of people seemed to be in the restaurant this Friday night, good distance between each party! My boyfriend and I ordered some nice cocktails - a world class martini and the passionfish margarita. Both quite fruity, the martini tasted a lot like grape juice + alcohol, refreshing! The margarita was quite delicious as well. The complementary bread was YUM. Served hot and with their special house butter?! DOUBLE YUM. For apps, we ordered a Cherry Blossom Roll: extremely tasty - I would recommend if you're a fan of spice for sure. The topping was jalepeno and sriracha. For some of the pieces I didn't eat the jalepeno because it overwhelmed the overall flavors of the roll. Crab and Corn chowder: this was my ultimate favorite dish of the entire night. The staff served this dish as a portion for each of us, which was quite thoughtful (guess I haven't been to enough finer dining locations that I was surprised by this hahah). HIGHLY recommend. So creamy and decadent. Amazing crab meat in the chowder. Louisiana Seafood Gumbo: so tasty and heavy with seafood omg. Shrimp, sausage, crab, fish of the day in every single bite. It was on the spicy side too - the pepper taste was quite strong. Great to have the rice in the dish. Yum! Pan Seared Sea Scallops: My boyfriend got this dish. Scallops were cooked to perfection. The bacon and special brown butter were great bursts of flavor to the dish. Order this if you want to treat yourself! Key Lime Tart- hit the spot to end the nice. Some good ice cream on the side, and a nice meringue topping to balance out the tart yet sweet key lime. Service was really great - cleared the table when needed, brought additional new glasses of water when refill was needed, overall really attentive. I appreciated it and had a lovely dinner date night at Passionfish - if you're thinking of checking it out for restaurant week, believe me it's definitely worth it! read more

One of the best dinners I've had since leaving NYC. We had the sushi tower, ceviche, arctic char, and tandoori salmon. Each dish was delicious with unique flavors. We loved how the menu listed the location each fish was sourced from. My husband's arctic char came from Iceland! He enjoyed it and really wants to try the flounder next time since it apparently is 2 lbs! The ambience was nice- not too loud, and our waiter was also very knowledgeable of items both on and off the menu (specials) and very attentive. Came here for restaurant week last August, only getting to the review now. The restaurant week menu was solid - great value (if only they had the items on the menu available). We had to pick alternative options 3 times cause they came back and said they were out of something we initially picked (from appetizer, to entree, to dessert -- so sad). All that said, the food was good and the staff were friendly (and apologetic for the lack of menu availability). Definitely a place to go if you like seafood, but maybe be prepared to pick a second option :) read more

My friends and I visited this spot for restaurant week brunch and it was great value with tasty options! I got the Cajun omlette which a good portion that I ended up having to take some home. The appetizer sushi was average, but the key lime dessert and coconut ice cream was the perfect way to end the meal. I've always passed by this restaurant while at RTC and never stopped in, but I'll glad I finally got introduced here! The restaurant itself is fancy and modern, and the waiters are also so nice and got us a seat even though we didn't have a reservation. Normal meals would be a little pricey here, but I'd definitely come back for the next restaurant week. read more

5 stars for ambiance and service. 4.5 stars for food. Firstly, the restaurant is beautiful. It's the perfect ambiance - classy without feeling pretentious, sophisticated yet casual enough to not worry about being underdressed. Our server was Max and he was wonderful. He was attentive and personable and helped make our night feel even more special. We got the crab cakes and char-grilled whole bronzino to share. Both dishes come with a side, which we chose crispy Brussels sprouts and baby Florentino (cauliflower version of broccolini). The crab cakes were a bit on the small side but tasty and didn't have too much filler - nice chunks of crab meat. The grilled fish was also quite good but I thought it could use more seasoning. It also took forever to eat but that's on us for ordering a whole fish with plenty of bones to pick out while eating :). The Brussels sprouts were super yummy and not too charred which I like. However, I was disappointed in the Florentino. They were dressed in a sauce that was too sweet for my liking with bacon sprinkled on top and since there was no indication of this on the menu, it caught me by surprise. I think they would've been delicious simply grilled and sprinkled with salt and pepper or sautéed in olive oil and garlic with lemon to taste. I also think there should've been an indication of this on the menu as it seemed like a pretty unique preparation of the vegetable especially for people who might not eat pork or expect it in a veggie side. read more

Mark was on it. Got a lager, wife had a martini. Very particular about it. Got 6 oysters. There were 2 kinds. Told Mark pick one. He brings 3 of each. DUDE! Martini was spot on. Go Mr. Mark! Got the Maki roll. So good. Crab nachos. OMG!!! Another round! Hmmm.. how are those wagu sliders? 2! Perfect as that is great size for an appy. So terrific! The food was excellent. However, when our table was being cleared the butter knife was dropped on the lining of my leather fox trimmed jacket that was sitting in the chair beside me. The woman picked it up and didn't apologize. My son looked at the coat and butter was smeared several places on the lining. We picked the coat up and were using a napkin to get the butter off the lining when our waitress brought us our check. She didn't comment. So I would say you need to work on your service. read more

Came here for a work lunch. Definitely an upscale restaurant from the interior, service, to the plating. Our table got the fried calamari and spring rolls. Both were plated beautifully, but the calamari batter was a bit bland given that the dipping sauce doesn't help add much savoriness either. I got the Louisiana seafood gumbo. I was a bit turned off by the appearance of the dish at first sight. The sauce was on the darker side of traditional gumbo and covered up most of the content in the dish; in the end I couldn't finish up the heavy sauce anyway after the rice and seafood were gone. So personally, I would've preferred the dish to be less drowned for potentially lighter taste and a more pleasant appearance. However, was very suprised by the amount of shellfish in the dish. Definitely satisfying enough for someone craving for seafood. Overall, our server was friendly and attentive the entire time. They had many STRONG specialty cocktails available for $5. We tried the Brazilian drink which was refreshing and the equally yummy pomegranate margarita. My Companion ordered the Kung Pao Calamari, prepared lightly flash fried & tossed in a tangy Chili Hot Sauce - tasty & I opted for the Dragon Roll. Our entrees were from the Fresh Catch section having the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes & the Mahi-Mahi, decent proportions & we were satisfied. When ordering from this option each selection is cooked in EVOO, Lemon & Sea Salt with the choice of an accompany sauce: Salsa Verde, Romesco, Red Thai Curry, Lemon Beurre Blanc or Classic Tartar & a side. While I debated on the Curry & Lemon sauces, Rob was kind enough to bring me both to try in which I did & favored the Lemon sauce. Our sides were Sweet Potatoes Fries & Brussels sprouts, if you really like the latter, I highly recommend as the preparation with the Chili Nam Plam sauce was delicious. Validation available if you park in the Orange Garage on Explorer Street, in which we found out after parking on the street (metered) & walking into the restaurant. An upscale environment with harmonious decor & a warm ambience nestled in the heart of Reston Town Center.
