The sushi was actually pretty affordable and decent in size--so refreshing to see since most places charge $18 & up for specialty roles. If that wasn't the icing on the cake, the service was just above & beyond... waitress constantly checked up on us and even struck a lil convo. Witnessing her water the plants from the distance we could really tell she cared about the restaurant (could be the owner tbh). We like Yaki Sushi. We typically come around lunch time. I order tea for our table and we split a Sushi platter between the two of us. When lil comes with us, we add on hibachi for her. Sometimes it's quick and sometimes more people are there and we wait a while to get food or check. It's a nice relaxing environment to be in. I just recently saw they have a variety of Soju on a advertisement. I've been visiting the Nova area to find a good Japanese restaurant, but this one is lower than average to be honest. Sushi rice was undercooked and hard, which kills good quality sushi. In my opinion, this is the most crucial aspect for Japanese restaurants. The arrangement was okay, but they knew how to prepare the fish, but the quality was not good. We all experience inflation and shrinkage, but you should choose quality seafood. For about $30 per dish and fish, I'd rather go to a sushi buffet near me that costs $27 per person. I usually judge sushi places by their chirashi bowl and was pleasantly surprised by the balance of fish, the presentation, and freshness of options. The pickles really gave it an extra flavor too. My husband got the tuna set. The cuts on the tuna were okay -- nothing phenomenal but pretty solid for a neighborhood sushi place. On a work trip and got to try this spot with friends. It is a beautiful and quaint restaurant, the servers were accommodating (I took forever to order), and the food came out fairly quickly. I ordered the sushi & sashimi combo, toro, and uni. Everything was perfect, until I got to the uni. Maybe I waited too long to eat it, since it was my last piece, but it didn't taste right....almost bad. All in all, I can see why this place is popular and it definitely got busy while we were there. Our waters are never empty since they are great about refilling and topping off our beverages. Depending on the day, the wait may be longer for getting your orders out. I placed a ridiculously expensive take out order, then timed my arrival to coincide with the pickup time 35 minutes later. When I arrived, the restaurant was just beginning to fill up and the hostess said they were finishing my order. I took a seat on the bench and tried to stay out of the way of other patrons coming in for service. And they continued coming. Multiple parties coming and going, then multiple food orders being picked up over and over. 15 minutes goes by, still no food, still no attention from the staff. The hostess sees me and says "They're making the last roll". Sounds unfortunate but reasonable since my food will clearly be in my hands at any moment, right? 25 minutes in, still no food. Still more parties picking up orders, getting seated, actually eating around me as my wife continuously texts me to ask what's up with dinner. The wait staff and hostess are now actively ignoring me, looking away rather than at me as I wait. Two more take out orders leave and I am still waiting. At the 45 minute mark, I'm about to leave and the hostess stops ignoring me to say they're making my food. Maybe they weren't making my food when I ordered it? Maybe they weren't making my food when I arrived and asked to pick up my order? Maybe they weren't making my food when she said they're were making the last roll? After 55 Minutes of waiting in the restaurant, 35 minutes after my order was supposed to be ready for pickup, someone shoves a platter of sushi in my hands and says "sorry". The baked and fried rolls that are supposed to be fresh and hot are cold. The rolls that are supposed to be cold are room temperature. I'm starving, the wife is furious with me, and the whole night is ruined already. I get the food home and the food is just as disappointing as the experience. Low-quality previously frozen tuna and salmon. Rolls on part with your local supermarket or gas station. Serviceable, sure, but not even mentionable when contrasted against any of the other sushi restaurants in the area. I literally have had mall sushi better than this. When unpacking my order, I see that someone stuffed a box of cold shrimp and vegetable tempura that I didn't order into the bag as a condolence prize for waiting an hour and a half for my food.
