Busier than expected for 9 pm at night. We waited about 20 minutes after our reservation to be seated at our table. It seemed to be a trend because there were two other groups that had to wait for their tables after their reservation too. Once we were seated the service was great and it wasn't an issue, they must have just had a bigger than expected rush and pushed everything back. While you wait for your food, they bring bread and olive oil to the table which is absolutely my favorite thing at Italian restaurants. Carbs on carbs on carbs always. The interior was super cute and trendy, I love the atmosphere. The tables were a tad close together without dividers during a pandemic My friend and I were vaccinated so we were okay with it, but I could see how it could make some uncomfortable. We each got a pasta dish and split a calzone. Oh my goodness, everything was so delicious! The portions are decent too, I had leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day! Stopped into Pasta Beach after a 9 hour drive looking for good eats and a good environment on the recommendation of my wife who received amazing food and service pre-Covid. Had some hiccups and some redemption during this meal which I will describe: Wait service was prompt and attentive, no complaints. Full tips were deserved here, waitress also relayed our concerns and was thoughtful. Basically she was great. Flavors were highly agreeable and dishes offered a lot of range for everyone of our diverse group of young and old eaters. We ordered Fruti de mare, pepperoni pizza, pasta with clams, and calamari and shrimp. The fried seafood was excellent, battered well, and in a rare occurrence for most places, calamari that was delicate in the mouth instead of rubbery. The pasta in the mussel in clam dish was seasoned well and delightful. There were a few misses however that bare mentioning. 1) The pepperoni pizza did not receive the crust it deserved resulting in a soggier experience than we desired. Pepperoni quantities should decrease or the crust should thicken. 2) Clams were over cooked, as evidence by the difficulty of removing them from their shells. 3). There was an excess of unwanted shells in one of the dishes and a barnacle to boot. I chalk this up to a lack of detail and perhaps the cooking crew not "eating their own dog food" as we say in the software world. Guys, occasionally try your own cooking, imagine the price points and pretend you're the customer w your expectations. So let's move towards our redemption: The manager came by to address our concerns. He empathized, apologized, and made us whole. This is what good businesses do: They are humble and try to improve and we as good consumers understand that we all have off days and confidently return knowing that the management is committed to improving their customer experience. Get some good eats at this place and good service and know that if you are unsatisfied that management has your back. read more

We used to love going to Pasta Beach when we lived in Newport several years ago - food was good, ambiance was casual, and service was friendly. We were excited to share this restaurant with our kids during our vacation to Newport. However, the front desk staff was arrogant and rude - the hostess couldn't be bothered to help us and acted like she was doing us a favor just by speaking to us. After we were seated outside by ourselves (note that we intentionally went during off-hours and the restaurant was not busy), no one came to greet/serve us. After waiting 15 minutes, we decided to leave. I'm a business professor at a major university. If I presented this as a case study to my students, I would recommend that the hostess be let go and that management take a close look at organizational culture. Very disappointing. read more

Well to start, my boyfriend would say this was the best pasta he's ever had. We overall loved our visit to pasta beach. The only reason for taking a star off was the tables seemed a bit too close together for my comfort during covid times and the eggplant bruschetta could've used some more flavoring. Their outdoor patio is spacious and has plenty of heating for the colder fall and winter season. This was our 2nd visit to Pasta Beach, Newport. Our first visit was a few years ago. The server charged my credit card for a Pellegrino she forgot to add to the bill AFTER we paid & left the restaurant. We decided to try again, made reservations and arrived early. The hostess seated us promptly which we much appreciated. Once at our table, we were served 4 small pieces of bread which was odd since other tables received a generous amount. We ordered bruschetta as an appetizer, but our meals arrived first. When the bruschetta finally arrived, it was delivered with no plates. We had to flag down our waiter to ask for them. Our server was nice, but inattentive. He never asked if we wanted an additional beverage, how our meals were, etc. It's customary to offer Parmesan with pasta, but my husband had to request it as well as salt & pepper. Disappointing to say the least. Time and time again I find myself incredibly disappointed with the quality of the food here. Years ago this place was fantastic. No more. Everything here tastes on par with something I could buy at a local grocery store and make myself, except nothing is fresh. The quality of the food for the price is not even remotely worth it. Every single time I call to place an order for pick-up, half of the items I request they just don't happen to have. If that's the case then then don't put them on the menu. Let's get one thing straight: I love Pasta Beach! My mom and I come to Pasta Beach in Newport frequently, and also visit the location in Boston as well. It's kind of our place and a special thing that we like to do together. That being said, I wouldn't say that Pasta Beach is a place to bring a large group, especially a group of people with picky eaters. The restaurant is tiny, loud, and lively, and there are always servers and patrons moving around the tiny alleys between tables. The tables are small, and really only suit small parties, so do yourself a favor and grab your favorite family member or friend, and come out to Pasta Beach. Leave the rest of the clan at home. The food is superb - freshly made, high quality ingredients, and the assured simplicity in the cooking technique that lets the ingredients speak for themselves. Any of the pasta dishes are winners - I am currently dreaming of the salty, crunchy pieces of proscuitto atop the creamy and cheesy Spaghetti Carbonara, or the melt-in-your mouth pillows of potato gnocchi enrobed in a flavorful and hearty Bolognese sauce. For non-pasta fans, there is a selection of several brick oven pizzas, salads, and entrees - one particular standout is the healthy Salmon Alla Griglia (grilled salmon), served alongside grilled vegetables. As if you haven't had enough carbs, be sure to ask for a bread basket. They make the bread fresh in a huge pizza oven that you can see from the dining room. Nothing is better than a slice of thick and chewy homemade foccacia bread straight from that oven! This is one of those restaurants where I highly advise you against giving substitutions for your meal. Try the dishes the way that they are intended, and you'll enjoy it, I promise. It's a bit on the pricier side, but for the quality (besides Mama Luisa's, you aren't going to find Italian food that's this fresh or delicious in Newport or on Aquidneck Island), you really can't go wrong. I really really hate to leave a negative review, but this had to be one of the worst meals I've ever had. Especially at this price point. $18 for gnocchi with pesto and jeez if it didn't taste straight from the package. Nothing homemade about the pasta here. Cacio e Pepe was heavy and tasted like fettuccine Alfredo. The drinks were good, the bread was good, but for a restaurant that has "pasta" in the name I expected a hell of a lot more. We also went on a not busy afternoon, and I watched our appetizer sit on the pass for more than 5 minutes before being brought to the wrong table, then another 2 minutes before I just yelled "that's our appetizer" to the hostess who was holding it looking confused. Save your money and eat elsewhere. Plenty of way better spots to eat in Newport. And yes I read all the negative reviews beforehand and still decided to give it a chance and I wish I hadn't. read more

We were looking for a lunch spot, and this place had great reviews! It is such a gorgeous place inside, and the food is delicious. We started with the tomato/basil bruschetta which was served Ontop of their bread it was the perfect starter. I had the muddled strawberry coconut water drink and it was sooo good I could have had so many more hah. My boyfriend had the carbonara pasta and I had the vegetable panini. Our AirB&B was right near Pasta Beach, so we decided to check it out the first night. We were all very pressed. The Arrabiata was very tasty (though could have been a bit spicier). The gnocchi was very pleasant. The tomato on the bruschetta was cut way too big, so that was a bit disappointing. A few nights later, we had to have an early meal to catch our sailing charter and we were a bit worn out from a lot of walking so, although we didn't intend to, we wound up back here again, and again we were impressed. This time, we sat outside, which was nice, as it wasn't too hot a day. Instead of the tomato bruschetta, we got the garlic and olive oil bruschetta and it was VERY delicious. We had high hopes for our dinner - the place is nicely decorated and inviting. We had a reservation, and we were seated right away. In the front, near the hostess stand. Try to sit further back in the restaurant, it's much nicer. The good: ambience, pizza, gnocchi, grilled salad. The bad: we did not receive bread when seated, the calamari was tasteless (didn't even have salt!), too heavily breaded and did not come with enough marinara sauce (smaller than described as well), grilled chicken was way undercooked (so we returned), had to get my own salt and pepper, disinterested/apathetic server, odd music selection which did not seem to fit the vibe. We wanted to love it but did not. Beware of the parking lot next door, it's $30 for 2 hours! Find street parking. Or just go somewhere else. read more
