The reviews and the pictures in this review seem to be for several different places (one photo shows an address of 1215 yet this shop is 357 ). This review is for 357 West 37th by Ninth Ave. I came for pastrami and the sandwich did not disappoint. It is stacked with succulent pastrami on rye bread with or without mustard. In the area, this is great pastrami. The bread seemed 2nd rate-not much rye flavor and it was crumbly. The mustard had more of a vinegar taste than a spicy tang. The pickle was average - but a full pickle. Despite these comments, a good sandwich. They have given a try to the interior but it lacks any atmosphere (an unused tv, no music and air conditioner on stuffy mode) , although assuredly it will keep you dry on a rainy day! I'd suggest getting takeout then walking to Bella Abzug park. The price may seem high but it is extremely reasonable for the generous pastrami portion. The lunchtime special is worth it . read more

The pastrami sandwich and the corned beef sandwich are delicious. We ordered one of each and traded halves so we could taste both. The price seemed on the high side but when the sandwiches came out they did not disappoint! We favored the pastrami but both were so good. Lots and lots of lean meat on soft rye bread. I wish it had more sauerkraut but then the sandwich would've been too wet. I love sauerkraut so maybe next time I would get extra on the side. A little smear of mustard and it was heaven. I definitely would come back next time we're visiting the UES. read more

I just realized there was a new restaurant around the corner and was excited to check it out. Having a primarily take out spot in this day and age is a plus. I stuck to the standards and ordered a pastrami sandwich and chicken noodle soup to share at home. I guessed correctly this was plenty of food to share. Actually, we still have some of the soup in the fridge with a large size being more than was needed. Both the pastrami sandwich and soup were excellent. The pastrami just about melts in the mouth. It came with mustard and homemade thousand island dressing on the side. I went with just the thousand island and it was so good. It came with a small side of coleslaw that I hogged for myself. Great pastrami sandwich!! Store recently opened. Sitting next to a smoke shop on W.37th st off of 9th Ave I ordered a sandwich special which consisted of a good size Pastrami sand which and soda. The meat was succulent and moist, piled high on rye bread. They give you pickle with that. I told the clerk that "I know my Pastrami" and have been to many Well known stores! I place this Pastrami up there with the like of Katz's deli and Sarges Deli. The lunch special is $19.50, well worth it I'm a big eater, this sandwich filled me up! Ordered delivery and while there was promising parts, everything was _not quite right_. The roast beef sandwich contained strange onion/cheese like elements that were not listed on the menu. They make a fantastic product. I think it's better than Pastrami Queen among competitors in the area. It's an incredibly juicy pastrami with fresh thick pieces of melt in your mouth beef. This is much more akin to a steak than a cold cut and much higher quality. I also like they throw in lettuce, tomatos, and onions at no charge. It's annoying when you get charged $2.50 for these items. My one concern is the marketing is terrible. I wouldn't have ordered if I didn't see the other reviews. Their name is Pastrami & Grill, really? That makes it seem like a corner deli that specializes in Jewish deli. It's not. It's a really high quality product and I think they should rebrand themselves. it would be a shame if they didn't make it despite having a great product because of poor marketing. I was a bit skeptical when I walked into this very small restaurant with only one young man working. The pastrami sandwich was excellent and filled with meat. It was served on Levy's Jewish Rye bread. The bread was good but the sandwich works have perfect on a fresh loaf of rye. read more

Lean (but not TOO lean), tender cuts of perfectly-spiced, melt-in-your-mouth pastrami. Not too salty either like many other places. Expensive (~$20/sandwich), but still a better value and much better quality than the competition (i.e., Pastrami Queen). They usually have a lunch special that'll get you a sandwich and soda for $15, which is a pretty good deal. They have takeout and indoor/outdoor seating, but I suggest eating the sandwich while it's still fresh -- their bread gets soggy quickly. I just finished eating the Pastrami sandwich that I brought home from Pastrami & Grill. I feel that I must make a review to get the word out about this place. This was one of the best pastrami sandwiches that I've ever had. The quality of the pastrami was excellent. It had the right amount of moisture, without any gristle. Furthermore, the pastrami was perfectly sliced and stacked. This is an important element of this sandwich and did not go unnoticed. Lastly, the ingredients in the sandwich - pastrami, cheese, sauerkraut, and bread - were in perfect proportion. I must add that I was impressed with the taste of the pickles that came with my sandwich. A bite of sour pickle in between bites of the sandwich helped to balance out the flavors. If the quality remains consistent (unlike another place in the neighborhood), I will make this my preferred pastrami restaurant. I used to only eat pastrami at Katz's on the LES, but stopped going when I noticed that quality go down. This place is much better, five stars! read more

It is closest so far to what was in my opinion the best pastrami in the city from Fine and Shapiro. The matzaball soup is just perfect imo. Very simple. Put chicken in your chicken noodle soup. I wasn't feeling well and was excited to finally get something resembling food back into my body, so I ordered chicken noodle soup. When I got home and opened the pint, I was disappointed to see it was nothing but broth, noodles, and a couple diced carrots. All this - for 12.95! The price doesn't bother me but why on earth would you call it chicken noodle soup and not put chicken in it? I called to ask them that question and the cashier told me that's just how they do it. I asked to speak to the owner and never got a call back. So 0 stars for customer service, and 1 star for chicken noodle soup with no chicken in it. I've never felt more like I'm in a Seinfeld episode then when I was calling to talk to the owner about why they choose not to put chicken in chicken noodle soup. read more

Very solid option to get a good pastrami on Rye in the neighborhood. meat very lean and tender, not as fatty as Pastrami Queen. Also a nice Smokey flavor full of spices and a nice bark on top. Service can be a bit slow but that is a product of A more limited staff, but honestly the people at Pastrami Queen have become so nasty and arrogant I'd rather come here for a very comparable sandwich that is slightly cheaper. The round knish is very good as are the latkes. Cole slaw can be a bit creamier but not bad. read more

Ordered from here for the first time. I have to say, the Pastrami Sandwich was one of the BEST Pastrami sandwiches I ever had. Tender, Thick cut slices, fatty (I asked for this).... That just melt in your mouth. The sandwich was so thick I had to pick at it and eat some meat to thin it out a bit ;) it needed nothing! First time I had a pastrami sandwich and didn't even add mustard! I did taste a few bites with mustard... but it doesn't need it. The pastrami flavors are on full display in this sandwich!!! This is the second time I buy pastrami at this new joint. Their pastrami is consistently delicious--plus it's tender and lean. So much better than what I've gotten at Pastrami Queen in the past. And it's cheaper! live nearby, order by phone, pick up my order and make my sandwich at home. The service is excellent: They got my order ready right away, I put it in a thermal bag and served it nice and warm on rye bread seven minutes later. I'm so happy to have such a good place nearby. Made a BIG mistake thinking I was in a different Pastrami shop. This one has the same prices, but the quality is very very poor. Spent a lot of money and find meat products not top shelf, pastrami VERY salty with something like a sweet aftertaste. Same goes for pickles, cole slaw, dressing. Plus ordered a combo with russian and cole slaw on the side -- (the way other pastrami stores do it) but he gave me a full serving of coleslaw and must have charged me for it (can't be sure because I never got a receipt) Never did get a receipt. Claimed machine broken, said he would send receipt, but never received. Not worth the trip or not even worth it if the prices were lower. read more
