The food is good, as to be expected in a NYC deli. However, prices have skyrocketed, but only for certain racial and ethnic groups. In other words, I stood there online and watched them personally price things according to the people they see. As a white man, they attempted to charge me three times as much. They've lost my business. When I chose to decline the purchase and move on, the Spanish cashier made a derogatory comment about me being a white American. I will not tolerate that from anyone. I suppose they thought, because I'm Caucasian, but I'm automatically rich? Whatever be the case, they've lost my business. read more

I inadvertently landed to this place cuz I couldn't find the other bagel place. It looks like your typical NYC bagel shop. They have a standard menu of breakfast classics. I got a jalapeño n cheese bagel with cream cheese. I wanted nothing else. Though the dude at the counter was nice. The inside dining area was dirty. For 8am... kinda early for a place to be that dirty. So I sat down, In a little area that was clean. I saw a typed out sign that said, Spend at least $10 to sit at the table... Woooo Chile... Who would spend $10 here?!! That's tacky. This isn't a full service diner. The cashier was ok with me, but was nasty with this other customer over something dumb. My bagel was decent. It tasted homemade. However, compared to Safeways bagels. Safeway wins. This place is a little like a tourist trap. Next time, I go to my bagel pit stop, a block away. read more

FYI, they close at 8:00pm; too early!. So far what I have eaten there is good but they close too early and they are in a busy area! They should NOT be closing that early! New York used to be The City that never sleeps; now it is sleeping! Everything closes early not the same as it used to be back in the day. It has been reduced to like a small little town. read more

Gm I have to compliment the young lady who is the cashier/coffee barrister/ greeter and NICE PERSON!! I do not know her name but you are lucky to have her. I've had a few breakfast sandwiches from here before. Today I ordered an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and it was NOT what New York is about!! So little cream cheese and the bagel wasn't fresh - for $5 this is a rip off!! The service is fast and they are quick to take care of the morning rush but for the price of the bagels they should be a better quality! Four of us walked in and ordered four things, not expecting anything much since it was a small deli, but once we got our plates, we were absolutely caught off-guard. First, the visual. I mean, check out the visuals on those bagels! I've been to some high-end bagel shops in NYC, but these guys at Al's Deli did it better. Seond, the taste. Of course, visual means nothing if the taste doesn't back it up. At our first bites, all four of us came to an agreement that this place is a hidden gem. Having recently started a job in Manhattan where I start work at 6 AM and need to be in the office by 5:45 AM I find myself getting off the train one block away at Penn Station shortly before 5 AM most days. Having to leave the house so early I have no time to make breakfast and find myself starving by the time I make it to the city. Al's is one block from Penn Station and they are truly the only place nearby that seems to be conveniently open that early in the morning. Even the nearby McDonald's on 7th Avenue which lists themselves online as 24 hours has their doors locked at that hour. Al's has been great about giving me an awesome option to grab a quick cheap breakfast on the go on those mornings when I'm on the fly and really need it. They have a full array of all the usual stuff you would find at any NYC bagel shop such as a variety of bagels, spreads, salads, coffee, as well as hot breakfast items (eggs, bacon, sausage) ready to be served. I usually go with the a sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel and it's always hot, tasty, ready in a couple of minutes, and at $4 the price in NYC can't be beat where I've paid close to $10 for a similar sandwich at bigger name bagel shops. The employees are always very nice and make it point to remember their customers and their regular orders and the man behind counter knew me after I had only been going there for 2 days! I don't really understand the low reviews for this place that I'm seeing in general from a lot of people. For what it is the price and quality and service are pretty good and they even have a seating area if you wanted to stay to eat your food which a lot of places don't. Food was amazing. I had a pastrami and Swiss cheese. Had some dessert had hot chocolate. We were riding a bus, we needed a break.He allowed us to sit in there and enjoy it and use his restroom. Super pleasant cookies were delicious, a great owner. read more

Al's is a great place to grab a quick (or even not so quick , seating is available) bite to eat. whether it's a hearty breakfast, a quick bagel , soup , custom salads, burgers, sandwiches , paninis, and even original Mrs Field's cookies.and treats ! Tried to grab a bagel around the corner at two places and the lines were soooo long and at least one was $7.95 for a bagel and cream cheese. Skip that! Go around the corner here to Al's where I got one under $4 and it was delicious. Didn't love my espresso, but whatever. Nothing fancy here but yummy and the price was right. read more

It's the kind of place that long time locals will say is legendary...surviving the pandemic and being on 7th Ave between 34th and 35th for the long run is definitely the kind of things legends are made of. However, when it comes to the food. It's average to pretty good at best. They aren't going to win any awards but they'll win a hungry lunch time customer looking for hot food. I worked across the street and would pop in for sandwiches and fries every so often. The chicken is always juicy and never dry...a rare plus in consistency for delis. I appreciate that. The service is also pretty good. They're not the type of impatient NYers that treat you like you should've known exactly what you wanted before you walked in the place. They are the kind of place that once you pop in every now and again, you will know what you want. Also, try a smoothie; they're usually decent. read more

Best to go during Happy Hour daily from 4-8 for reduced price drinks and beer is only $6. Located in between 33rd and 34th on 2nd Ave. Close to my sons apartment... for some reason, I always find myself here at least once when I'm in town. It's fun, and it's close with a fun vibe.

It's $25 for unlimited drinks plus food by the way. Which is sad is a deal these days. Anyway, their happy hour is solid enough for a Monday and was meeting up with a friend I hadn't seen in over a year. Place is actually very cute. There are no tvs which I appreciate and the paneling of the walls and decor with all the flowers is quite tasteful. Happy hour deals 4-7pm Mon-Fri & all night Thursday apparently: Aperol Spritz $8, Hugo Spritz $9, Paloma $10, Mules $9, Draft Beers (except Guinness) $7, House Wine $9. As well as 2 Appetizer Bites for $19.95. Not the best but not the worst. I'm normally not a Spritz kind of gal. I think watering down prosecco or wine is heinous. But it was a Monday and I didn't exactly feel like powering down into happy hour so Aperol Spritz it was which switched to a Modelo later. It was the perfect drink situation on a god awful hot as hell day. We also ordered the fish tacos and what initially were the curry fries but they brought out the Greek fries. I wasn't mad about it. Honestly was torn between the two and I don't send food back unless something really bad happened. But it was essentially a side of Caesar salad dressing with feta cheese and generous amount of herbs on a very sparse and frugal amount of crispy standard cut fries. Now I know why it's a 2 for $20 deal. The tacos were 3 in an order which I guess is typical. They weren't bad but nothing stood out to me. I'd come for the drinks or try something else on the menu.

I get that everything in Manhattan is more expensive. I am used to paying $2 for my coffee. What I am NOT used to is prices that change every day, sometimes in the SAME DAY, UP and DOWN and no one ever owning up to it. IN the morning the coffe is $1.95, then at night it's $2. Then the next day someone charged me $1.85. Then back to $2. It isn't the price that bothers me, it's the fact you guys are clueless and insulting my intelligence read more

This has been my breakfast place for ages! And generally they are great service, quick, accurate and the price is right. BUT, lately during the breakfast rush they have this woman who thinks she is the boss. She slows things down, she gets every order wrong, and she has an attitude. Mediocre food and unfriendly, rushed service. Whenever I get a cup of coffee here, they give me exactly one napkin, which the smack down on top of the coffee's lid, causing the coffee to spurt through the pinhole in the center of the lid, drenching the napkin with coffee and rendering it useless. Amateur mistake from amateur servers. Oof. Avoid Al's if possible. read more

The wait is long in the morning but that's cause it's popular. Can't really blame a business for that. Good service the shorter lady who works the register is a sweetheart and always remembers how I like my coffee.
