Teeny coffee spot but does the trick. I got a cappuccino and everything croissant and perched in the window for a few minutes to scarf down my snack. This Birch in particular packs a lot into a small space in terms of decor and ambiance. It feels like an oasis from the UES bustle. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come to this spot again, but it's definitely convenient and reliable. read more

OMW to Pilates, feeling tired already, a rusty sign caught my eye. I popped by after class and although the line was long it moved fast. The barista was so pleasant even though I had a question or two; they have no sugar-free syrups but they do have skim milk. They also have fresh vegan cookies and packaged vegan pastries. Although they do have a little bar to sit at against the window, it's tiny so I am pretty sure it is unusual to get a spot. The coffee was great!!! A delicious iced vanilla latte will keep me motivated to go to class again next week! Their menu seems sparse but their special was seasonal and delicious. read more

Damn that was one of the least flavorful iced americanos I've ever had. The color wasn't that deep brewed look I prefer and putting a dab of cream in lightened it up way fast. The gal working was nice and I was able to grab the one stool to catch up for a few minutes, but one and done. read more

This seems like a cozy and solid coffee shop in the city that mostly locals go to. I was recommended this coffee shop and glad I gave it a try. I ordered their chai latte and it was absolutely delicious. Perfect for a cold fall morning. There was a small line and it moves a bit slow. The inside is really small and can get crowded quickly. Decided to try some new coffee place on my way to work and was hesitant to order when I seen the line and such a small crowded space but I decided to try it since I had a couple of minutes to spare. The wait was honestly less than 3 minutes which was surprising for the line of people. I ordered their seasonal drink and it was perfect! Not too sweet like the Starbucks crap and not too bitter. Just right. The best part was it actually gave me a boost but not too much. Definitely will be coming back! Oh and the chocolate chip cookie was worth it! read more

Birch Coffee has some really solid coffee at reasonable prices in the area. The staff who works there are also really nice which is always a plus. I got a hot matcha drink and it was pretty good, I like that it was unsweetened so that you could actually taste the matcha flavor. All in all, it's a solid coffee place. read more

Birch coffee is a cozy, local favorite serving some of the best coffee in the area. It's impossible to avoid in the winter -- The string lights, tinsel, and rustic hip appeal is perfect for evoking a comforting winter ambiance. Despite the compactness of Birch coffee, the quality of its coffee extends beyond its walls, drawing in people from all over for a delicious sip. The Baristas are always really friendly and seem to love working there. With only two sizes, it's worth getting a large latte at ~7 dollars which is the price of some grande drinks at Starbucks. Given one espresso equals 2 shots and the smoothe creaminess of the overall latte, the price is worth it. Birch satisfies my coffee cravings all day too! writing a 5 star review with the contradictory aim of getting less people to come here. we have to keep some secrets to ourselves. coffee and matcha are brilliant, staff is lovely, vibes are great. only bad thing are the other customers at times - too many of you are either in a run club and think you're better than most people, or in a BS white collar job (finance) and think you're better than most people. weird! also, to be fair re: busier times, you can just get their app and order ahead. but i never said that, and i also never wrote this review, albeit i think you could argue it's not as promotional as it could be. in short, if they hired me as their copywriter, i would be fired immediately. read more

I walk by this place all the time and finally decided to stop by and get a coffee! I got a hot caramel latte ($6.80). I wanted something sweet and this was recommended to me by the barista. It was a flavorful latte that was not too sweet! The cup is also super cute! I would only get a coffee here as a treat for myself once in awhile. read more

Complimentary serving of a giant fly if you order a quick bite. Birch is one of my favorite coffee places in the city. By far better than Starbucks and Dunkins hence I literally go looking for Birch wherever I am. It comes close to Gregory's and La Colombe. I was passing by 63rd and lex and decided to get a coffee and muffin. To my horror I saw a giant fly resting comfortably on a croissant. I doubt the staff had any awareness or not sure if they didn't care. Lost my appetite....it's just sad when good places take hygiene lightly. Makes you question if you should trust this place anymore. read more

Definitely one of the best lattes in New York, and maybe of all time. Visiting home and I couldn't wait to come by and grab a cup! It's top-notch. I got the hemp milk latte and it's the closest thing to almond milk. There's absolutely no bitterness or sourness to their coffee beans. It's the right amount of creaminess. I believe they also have a punch card if you go often. Just be aware that there's no seating here. There a bench outside, but don't bank on it (pun, because the word "bank" comes from the word "bench!" Get it?!). read more

I just moved to NYC for about a month, so it's my first time visiting this famous local coffee chain. Taste: I ordered a flat white. The cup is super cute, with your name on it. But the taste of the coffee is a bit bland, lacking the coffee flavor. Vibe: The inside of the store is quite small. You can find cute little swags on their shelves/hanging on the wall. It reminds me of my fav coffee shops in SF. The vibe of the surrounding areas (Lexington Ave/63rd st station) is pretty good too. I visited this place on a Saturday afternoon. Hands down the best almond croissant in the city. They spread the marzipan throughout the dough instead of the usual tube of almond goo down the center. Wonderful concept! The honey rosemary biscuit is also amazing, and the cheddar scallion scone is very savory cheesy. read more

Such a cute grab n go neighborhood coffee shop! While visiting NYC, I had my coffee here for multiple days. That quickly and the morning barista recognized me and my most likely order! The coffee is really good and the baked goods are nothing to sneer at either. Birch Coffee East 62 Street is a location I thought I visited with my Yelp children. I know I enjoy Birch Coffee and they have unusual delicious pastries. I'm here today for the Everything Scone. As soon as I approached the front I realized I had never been here before. The seating outside was limited to a bench where two people were already seated. Everyone waits outside until there's room to go in. It's very limited space inside. I just wanted the Everything Scone I saw on the Birch business page. When I went in and saw they had plenty of them I got in line. The line moves quickly because they have a couple people working behind the counter. I was shocked when he said the scone was $4.90. I guess that includes tax. I grabbed my bag and decided I would hightail it home for lunch. All the way home I was mad at myself for spending that much on a tiny scone. Those sentiments didn't last when I ate it! This Everything Scone was a fresh delicious biscuit textured scone. The darned thing needs to be twice the size! I definitely could have eaten two with no problem. That would be almost $10. I could have a whole meal for that price. I'm very sad to say I have to be in a rare mood to buy a Birch scone again for that price. I guess the food is how they make their money. Or by the looks of their full pastry case maybe it's not selling! Other than the price and seating, both of which are important to me, this is a good Birch for grab and go. I do prefer the bigger Birch location uptown on the West Side at 95th Street. I doubt very seriously if I will return to this location. read more

I made it my mission to find decent coffee places around the city. Starbucks is great, but finding gems like this that brew their own blend of coffee is incomparable. For starters, this is the CUTEST little shop! Baristas were extremely friendly and were excited to hear it was my first visit. I decided to go with the cold brew and man was it delicious! I could taste the freshness (for all my coffee drinkers you know what I means). I was a little bummed they didn't have almond milk because I generally don't drink cream, however I was pleasantly surprised to find out they had Oatly milk! I have only found two coffee shops that serve this milk so I was a happy camper when the barista told me they had it! Definitely give this place a shot because it's worth it. read more

Birch is one of those spaces that is hard to walk by. Somehow I shuffled past it to work for nearly a year, but the wooden interior and small, inviting space always made me want to wander in. I finally let in and ordered an oat latte. I wasn't prepared for the tiny " small " cup that would be presented with the nearly $5 price tag. My colleagues got a good laugh at my baby latte and I'd already vowed that I wouldn't return. Or rather, shouldn't at that price. But of course, something about this tiny, cozy space with long lines at peak hours made me glance in again and I noticed a reasonable $2.75 drip. And in the same 8oz cup, just the size I need for coffee. Bonus, the adorable personalized cups (when they have time to actually fill them in) Oh, and the coffee is smooth and good if any of that matters at all. read more

Coffee was good but I had to write about a weird experience I had when ordering. At coffee shops I normally order a 16 ounce hot latte with four shots of espresso. So I ordered exactly that, but then was told that if I wanted a 16 ounce hot coffee that I would have to be charged for two small coffees even though they have two different sizes on the menu, they don't specify what they are but they have cups out to show you the different sizes. so it's a little misleading. I couldn't stomach the thought of buying one coffee for the price of two so I just ordered something different. Maybe something they could do is just change their menu to offer all three sizes for the cups they display. read more

I like Birch, but their hours are brief and completely different than what Yelp tells you. Just wasted time and effort to come here and find it closes 4 hours earlier than Yelp told me. Small coffee shop off of Lexington Avenue that's never too crowded in the morning. Have been here a few times to try out their drink and food options before heading to work in the area. Most recently ordered the Iced Redeye ($5) and an Everything Scone ($?). As is much of their coffee selections, the beans are strong and full of flavor. Solid with a bit of milk and simple syrup provided to the side. The everything scone is palm sized and topped with all the trimmings of an everything bagel. Fine flavor but overall dry - best while drinking the coffee simultaneously. The prepackaged raspberry bar is a solid choice if not wanting the baked goods. Service here is fantastic, as everyone is cheery and quick to get orders out. Would like to see a concise food menu up front, though the drinks are well worth coming back for. read more

I'd actually passed by this place multiple times but had no idea it was a cafe. This shop itself is more of a grab-and-go, but it might still take a while since all drinks are whisked and made to order. There isn't really space for a line to form inside, so you may need to wait outside to order (there's also a bit of a lack of room to wait for your drink once it's ordered). My strawberry matcha came out to $9.25 total, which is pretty pricey, so I expected a lot. In total, it took me around 10-ish minutes to get my drink with about 4 people in front of me. At first it took a while for our orders to get taken since the two employees were focused on getting drinks out ASAP, one person was preparing the syrups and milk, and the other was making the matcha. The matcha itself had a nice green color. I've had many strawberry matchas prior to this, and based on my experience, this place was alright. The strawberry syrup was nice and not too sweet, but I wish there was a bit more flavoring or more of it, as after two sips I couldn't taste the strawberry at all. Overall, it's a nice shop with cute trinkets around and their own products they sell, like matchas and tea sets. However, for $9, it was a lot for what the drink offered in my opinion.

Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! FYI - there are two unisex restrooms in the rear for customers to use with really cute wallpapers too.

My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.
