I used to get Smoked Liverwurst here for years, but after the fire service went down to zero. I just find it disappointing that so many customers are effected. The updates are inconsistent. At this point it feels like the business should be sold to someone that can keep the European quality but is also motivated to keep up with its former business model. Maybe they want to stay closed, or reduce their inventory. Maybe there are investigations or licensing issues. But there is no communication explaining the issue. Hands down the most flavorful, tender slab bacon I've had. Eat it with eggs, in a BLT, alone or tuck a warm, crispy piece into a slice of fresh bread. Delicious! We also love the Alpine Salami and Garlic Salami-great with cheese and crackers or french bread. They have a great selection of fresh sausage -italian, breakfast, kielbasa, etc. you can get chicken breasts, steaks, and pork tenderloin too although I haven't tried them yet. There's always a line so plan to wait about 10 minutes before you're helped. Prices are reasonable and what you get is worth every penny. Be sure to pick up a product list on the counter when u walk in so you can browse while waiting in line. You may have a sample of what you'd like to try for the first time and they will accommodate and slicing requests (ex: thin, medium or thick slices meats). The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly- I haven't had a bad experience yet and have been going since 2007. After a fire took this place out of commission for a long time, they came back with pick-up orders and now, have reopened to the public! Their selection is still smaller than it was before, but they continue to work towards their full selection (I hope...I miss the liverwurst so much!). I went in before the holidays (always a busy time there) and restocked on italian sausages, brats, knacks, and perogies. Oh, and bacon! And German candies. Be sure to visit and don't be intimidated if there is a line - it moves quickly and you get personalized service once you make it to the front. Bring a cart with you! read more

While I love the quality of meat here, the customer service leaves to be desired. I was trying to order online but the "pick up" option they supposedly have doesn't come up. If you call them, they are rude (I spoke with 2 people). I also wanted to order the Hungarian Salami that they have in the store but it's not available online, and they told me that I'd have to come to the store then because they won't sell it online. Patak has European smoked and specialty meats in addition to a fresh selection of beef, pork, and chicken that's worth the drive and patiently waiting. The local grocers meat is incomparable to Patak's meats! The smoked taste of their meats doesn't require any additional seasoning but if you must, I suggest a sauce of your favorite. I purchased the best slab bacon, garlic bacon, liverwurst, beef franks, smoked turkey, and the list goes on! Whew, it's worth the drive to try!! The prices were heightened due to our current situation a month ago, however the prices are back to normal. I inadvertently planned a sausage fest. A bunch of guys, in TN and GA for the weekend. Okay, that's a sausage fest. Thought I'd get some stuff to BBQ. Patak Meat came up. They suggested the sausage. We were BBQing Sausage with a bunch of guys... sausage fest squared. Thing is, these were great sausage. Surprisingly cheap. If you're from the Northeast, walking in to see all these options, and the set up will give you flashbacks to being yelled at to hurry up in some deli. Despite long lines, and intense orders, they were very calm polite and patient with our questions. Really a top notch place to pick up some fresh sausages to throw on the grill. Also: Don't despair if you see a burned down building right before you get here. Turns out that's completely unrelated. read more

I love this place. It is a 60 mile round trip for me to drive to Patak, but very much worth it. Their meats are amazing. They have wonderful roast beef, corn beef and pastrami at a very reasonable price. Their Bohemia smokies are absolutely incredible. I also love their slab bacon and pepper bacon. Atlanta isn't known for it's diversity of ethnically oriented restaurants, groceries or specialty markets. Yes, I know there are places like Buford Highway Farmers Market that have the Russian ladies who are notoriously gruff and preside over a case of wonderful eastern European treats. But in many other cities there are many different enclaves that are the result of emigration patterns. Clusters of immigrants that centered on certain locations in a city or region for whatever reason..., maybe it was work in a particular industry. The result over time is often the handful or markets that remain long after the ethic enclave has changed over or gentrified. Yet that small butcher, cheese monger, fish guy or whatever seems to survive and has "that stuff" you're looking for. Well, Pataks Meats is one such gift to Atlanta. And if you don't find time to drive yourself into a neighborhood in Austell that feels like you've gone to the wrong place after each turn (then you're in the right place) and get to Pataks, then frankly something is wrong with you. I know, you're a nice person and your Mom likes you. I'm not judging. I'm just saying that Patak is one of those regional treasures that is worthy of our patronage. Really, I'm not kidding. Their hours aren't customer friendly. Don't gripe. You won't change them. Find a way to make your schedule work. Or... go on the one Saturday a month they are open. If you do, get your hungover ass out of bed early, down a cup of coffee and put another in your Yeti mug and head out to get there 15 minutes before they open. Then stand in line. Yes, a line. License plates from Alabama, SC, Georgia, TN and even FL will line the parking lot. Look, this is meat. Good meat. It's worth it. So Pataks is oriented as an Eastern European smokehouse. This isn't a butcher in the traditional U.S. point of view of a butcher. This isn't the place you're going to buy that A5 Wagyu for $195 a pound. What it is, however, is the most wonderful collection of cured and smoked meats you've ever seen. It's a carnival for carnivores. Once inside the alpine-Chalet like store you start your journey along the meat counter. It's done a bit like an assembly line. And the odds are a woman from some eastern European country whom you can marginally understand will be selecting all of your meats as you process through the assembly line that Henry Ford would be jealous of. There job is to make sure you get through efficiently. Note, that I said efficiently. That doesn't mean super friendly. It's efficient. But that's frankly part of the charm. The first stop is the "raw" stuff. Fresh bratwurst, Italian sausages and other products purchased by the link. Your meat guide will select and portion the products you want and place them unceremoniously in a hand basket that will stay behind the counter. You simply continue to point and gesture to what you want and indicate how much. Around you will be bewildered first timers like you, families speaking Czech or Hungarian as they do their monthly shopping. There's a whole bacon section with massive whole hog bellies cured and smoked. They'll lop off a big chunk or slice whatever thickness you want. DO THIS. You move on to the smoked and cured sausages and meats. German classics like knockwurst and other things you've probably never heard of or tried like landjaeger. Ask for samples, but don't dilly dally. This is unlike any other experience in Altanta, and well worth your time, your money and your stomach. Your friends will thank you. read more

this was my go to butcher since I moved here a couple of decades ago. The prices have doubled in time but the quality is good. However my last 2 visits they have not had the selection I was used to getting. I drive 45 minutes each way and stock up so usually a 250.00 per visits charge. This is disappointing. They are now extending and like many of my favourite butchers over the years I fear it will be more supermarket style and prices will change. Why can I not find a butcher in ATL? or many places I have lived in the USA? why are people happy with prepacked non traceable meat. ?? I am European and this is the only place I have found quality smoked sausage that I find at home. I now live between Europe and Atlanta so the products I find in grocery stores here is frightening, they amount of crap and preservatives that is in them and the price? What movement of the heavens prompted this miracle? Why, a trip to the "Sausage Chalet." Open only one Saturday a month, Patak Meats serves up some of the most authentic Eastern European meats I've ever eaten. Even our family visiting from Germany proclaimed Patak's sausages, liverwurst, and hotdogs to be as good as the ones they have at home. The best part might be the rock bottom prices. I got at least two dozen smoked sausages, 6 regular brats, 6 "cooked brats" (called vieswurst in German), 2 smoked pork chops, a huge thing of liverwurst, 10 hot dogs, a pound of freshly sliced black pepper bacon, and something else I'm sure I'm forgetting for about $30. It's cash, check, or debit card only. As I mentioned, the only Saturday they're open is the first of each month, and lines on that day can get long. This place is amazing!!! Patak is the place to go for all of your meat needs. It has everything and is super cheap. I have a huge summer BBQ each year. I used to buy my hot dogs from Barker's Red Hots (RIP) and sausages from Costco or the grocery store. After Barker's closed, I decided to make the trek to Patak for my BBQ needs. The quality of the meat is way better than anything you can find elsewhere. I buy enough wieners (they have skin on wieners that are amazing!), brats and kielbasa for my huge party and it is so much cheaper. I can buy 10 pounds of wieners for about $38. This ends up being about 60 hot dogs. Brats and Kielbasa end up being about $3.50/3.60 a pound. You can even buy them already smoked so it saves a lot of grilling time. For those that have never been there before, you have to get in line and wind your way through the cases. The same person will get your meat from the various stations. Sometimes they are a bit gruff, but trust me it is worth it. I usually just give them my laundry list of items and they go station to station and grab everything I need. They also have a lot of European candy and snacks close to the front door. Check it out before heading over to the cases to order. Patak is way OTP so be prepared to go stand in line super early on the one Saturday a month they are open or cut out from work early and head over there before rush hour traffic during the week. read more

How is it that I've been back in Atlanta all of these years and have only recently heard about Patak ? Two customers go there on the regular and are going first thing Thursday morning a list is quickly made and handed over out of Curiosity and with Hopes ... The next day when they returned two big bags were handed over, some of the packages were quickly opened and shared with those at the bar. We are in "Meat Heaven" and cannot wait to taste everything. These are Items purchased - Danish Havarti, Fresh Brats, Garlic Salami, Roast Beef, Smoked Pork chops, Fresh Wieners (there is not a dog that compares to this one). Prague Ham, Kabanos and Bohemian Smokies (have quickly become favorite snaking sausages), Italian Hots are great for sausage and peppers and the Andouille sausage is fantastic for gumbo. Garlic Bacon - Is wow, some perverted person decided to put garlic and bacon together two words that should be Illegal in the same sentence. I'm so happy they did we are all allowed to be naughty sometimes, super lean meat and tastes incredible I even use this in my scalloped potatoes sometimes. All of the items listed above about 8 lbs. of meat only set me back about $30.00, yes you read it right the first time and they are now accepting credit cards. ***Warning - For those of you who like Corned Beef you have to try this stuff it is addictive and will make the best Ruben's or Corned Beef sandwiches you will have. People that are complaining about the in-store experience are soft. I used to live in Atlanta and while I was first put off but the abruptness of the staff at Patak, I realized after traveling to Europe for the first time, the people and staff at Patak are the real deal Holyfield! The best butcher shop I've ever been to. Good quality meats at such great prices. We stock up every time we go here because we live about an hour away from this place. They have all kinds of cuts of meat, and so much variety of smoked meats and sausage. On our usual trip here we usually purchase ground pork, smoked pork butt (probably my favorite), roast beef, kabanos (smoked sausage) and bacon and lots of it. The bacon is still a slab so they slice it right there for you. Our favorite is the regular and the black pepper, but they also have garlic bacon and beef bacon. If you like slim jims, try the kabanos. When you get home, microwave it for a few seconds and I swear it taste like a big healthier and much more delicious slim Jim. All the meat here has a clean flavor to it. You can seriously taste the difference and the quality of the meats. They have short hours and I think they only open one Saturdays a month. Also they're always busy. We usually go on Mondays as soon as they open so the wait is not too bad but my friend has gone here on different days and times and the line is always out the door and even all the way out in the parking lot at times. read more
