Come on people! It's only the best Bohemian Smokehouse in Austell. I'm sure your saying, "isn't it the only Bohemian Smokehouse in Austell?". Yes it is because all the other ones had to move out of town because they couldn't compete. You know it's good when you hear more Eastern European accents than southern. I first came here for the smoked chops about 12 years ago. They are a must. The sausages are great, the brats will make you think you are in Wisconsin but with better weather, the smoked liverwurst....What? Smoked liverwurst? Who would eat that? You will, after you try a sample. Their bacon is awesome, good cheese, and smoked salmon is also a must. It can be a little intimidating the first time, but everyone is pretty nice unless you eyeball them. read more

Must go to Patak, it's great hands down been there for years and surely will continue for years to come. Kind of out of the beaten path, not where you normally expect a meat market but that just adds to the adventure of this fine neighborhood jewel. Can anyone say Black Pepper Bacon, it's mouth watering deliciousness. Yes I said it with a straight face. Go in and right from the start your swept off your feet by the different meat aroma, I get hungry thinking about it. Love me some of the smoked sausages, which one? Meat heaven! Love Patak from the pepper bacon sliced to your liking to the prime cut ribeye. All meat smoked in house cut and sliced to order. The also have cheeses and sweets from eastern europe. Lines can get pretty long but definitely worth the wait. We always get bacon ( all of them are good) roast beef so good we end up eating half of it before we get home. Also get some kabanos, long smoked sausages. They will also let you sample just a about everything. read more

OH. MY. GOD!  This place is just the best!  Look, when you grew up like I did eating certain Eastern European things and then get transplanted to the South, you miss - you long for - certain comfort foods that your parents and grandparents made.  Sure, the grocery store has "salami", and they have "kielbasa", but it's all generic, watered down stuff that all kinda looks and tastes the same.  Well, Patak Meats is the real deal.  They have it all.  In addition to a fully-stocked, full service butcher, they have a truly vast assortment of hand-crafted sausages and other tubular meat delicacies.   Is it pricy?  You bet.  But, can you get that authentic taste and quality anywhere else?  Nope.  It's totally worth the money.  Personally, I drive over an hour one way to pay $50 for a few pounds of sausages.  Yes, it's good enough for me to drive 2 hours and drop money on, so it's really good.  They also have an assortment of condiments, cheeses, candy and even bread and soft drinks.   My favorites:   Babka - not as good as grandma used to make, but the only babka I've been able to get my hands on in 30 years, and pretty damn good.   Polska Keilbasa - As good or better than any I've ever had, even in Europe. Moscowska - Orgasmic. Czech Salami - Perfection.   Kabanos - You can't stop eating them.   So, go Czech - see what I did there? - it out!  The only drawback is that they are only open Monday through Friday, so plan your trip accordingly.  FYI - Dekalb Farmers Market carries a likited assortment of stuff from Patak at a slight markup, if you live near the market and don't want to take the trip to Austell. read more

Seriously don't know why I haven't found this place sooner. I grew up in a Ukrainian household and moving to Atlanta left a lot to be desired by way of culture. Any culture. Over the past year I have been finding these gems such as Pataks that give me the taste of home. First, the building has a smaller (very cute) house look. The moment you approach the door you can smell the awesomeness that awaits. Walking in, it was like opening the gates to heaven (haha). There is a small market where I always find my way to my favorites such as the Karums and Bueno (more on these later.) After perusing the market I find my way to the butcher line where a large variety of meat awaits (kielbasa to italian sausage, salami, hand cut bacon, etc.) **Disclaimer: I grew up eating authentic kielbasa so I felt I needed to warn my husband it tastes nothing like the Americanized version sold in grocery stores. Please know this before purchasing** Fortunately for the items that do not require cooking (pastrami, salami, etc) you can request a sample. I was delighted to see their assortment of cheese as well (which wasn't listed on their price list.) As I neared the register I saw one of my childhood Easter favorites..something simple yet something I have not been able to find in Atlanta until now..Paska. Paska is a braided easter bread (see my picture) and is so good. Thats about it..oh, one last thing: Karums is a thicker more bitter cheese that is covered in chocolate similar to cheesecake bars except more bitter..second shelf in the middle freezer when you walk in. You will thank me later. :) Bueno are light weight hazelnut chocolate bars..very addictive and very tasty. read more

We also purchased rye bread which was $7 some hazelnut treats that were $9. Probably better off going to the farmers market for the treats and bread but you can't beat the meat prices. read more

Patak is a hidden gem, and is worth the drive if you want the very best. Many of the European foods, especially German, bring back great food memories. Patak is fresh, clean, and offers a wide variety of European delicacies...from the West to the East. Their selection is wide, and they cut meat to your specifications. Patak is a MUST try. I'll even give you my recipe for German sauerkraut with smoked, bone-in pork chops, and mashed potatoes. There are very few things that will motivate me to drag my keister out of bed before 8:00 on a Saturday morning. Road trips, free beer, and fresh bear claws generally make the list. A house fire would probably do the trick. But the #1 reason will always remain: Patak Meat Products. For working stiffs like me, it simply isn't feasible to make the drive out to Austell on a weekday. Which means there is only ONE DAY each month when I can load up on delicious European meats... the first Saturday of the month. And you can forget rolling into Patak in the afternoon on this special day, because they will absolutely be sold out of the things you want most. You've gotta get there early and queue up. You've gotta WORK for your meat. But anyone who knows will tell you: this meat is worth the effort. Patak is a garden of smoked and cured delights. Sausages strung along every wall. Hams and assorted fowl glistening from glass cases. Everywhere you look, delicious meat-in-tube-form. It's all made in-house, and it's all fantastic. The olfactory sensation when you walk into the shop for the first time is one of those life changing moments that will remain indelibly etched on your memory. When you are 90 years old and sitting in a retirement home, you might not remember your own name -- but you'll remember the first time you smelled Patak meats. The prices are beyond reasonable. They're downright cheap, especially when you consider the quality, authenticity and freshness of the product. If meat were currency this place would be the Federal Reserve. My grandmother was floored. "Look at those pork chops... I've never seen such good meat... and they're slicing bacon?! I can't remember the last time I've seen someone do that. If only I were closer to home..." Yeah. What she said. They make Polish sausage here. The only place in Atlanta I've found it. Even though they were frozen, the pierogies were good too. I've never had any that were stuffed with mushrooms and sauerkraut. Apparently my grandfather's mother used to make them like that. I was surprised at the long line, but it was Good Friday and I guess everyone was stocking up for Easter. Or it could always be out the door. I don't know. Regardless, it's worth the wait. The selection is beyond belief, the prices are more than reasonable (we left dragging two full bags and only spent about $30), and the employees are really friendly. NOTE: Cash, check, or debit. This is it folks! This is officially the only real meat market in the ATL area (my apologies to Compound and Sutra). Keep in mind they are only open until 6pm during the week, and only open on the first Saturday of every month. If you go on a Saturday, be brave because the only lines longer are at Six Flags. The beef here is amazing. They also specialize in sausages, weiners, franks, brats, you name it. You taste the difference when getting meat at a real butcher... This is worth the drive...I know people who drive over an hour just to get their meat here. Make the drive yourself...consider it an adventure with a great payoff. read more

I know several people that drive hours to come to middle of nowhere Austell, fight for parking, and wait in line for hour to buy some of the meats here. I would too. Lucky for me, I live 5 minutes from here. They are a pain in the butt though. The people who work here act friendly but curt, they have small parking, they don't open on most weekends, and you have to deal with tons of people crammed into a small space. But other than that, it's pretty cool. You can buy a bunch of meat products here from smoked to fresh sausages, pork products, beef products, cheeses, breads, European snack items, European beauty products, and others. Most people that work here talk in a funny accent too. I wonder if they specifically hire Eastern Europeans to work here. The quality here is top notch. They know what they're doing. In fact, some restaurants brag about using Patak products. They are also cheap. I'm still amazed how cheap the prices are. Maybe they forgot about inflation or something. They don't take credit cards. It's check, cash, or debit card only. I can't add anything more than what the other millions of 5 star reviews have said. Patak reminds me of an old fashioned butcher shop the kind one might see in an old timey picture show. It has an old European feel to it, and, from what I can gather, most of the staff seem to be recent immigrants from there. Either that, or they can fake a really good accent. This place is great though. They have almost every type of meat a carnivore would desire. Their meats are fresher and prices are much better than you will find at a typical grocery store. I have heard that crowds can get pretty crazy there, especially on their Saturday openings. The times I've been there though, I've been in and out relatively quickly. read more

Have you been sucked in to the Boar's Head money pit? Yes, their stuff is tasty. Yes, it is available at your corner Publix. Yes, they have a wide, creative variety. Yes, it is $9..49 a pound. Not Patak. This stuff is smoked, cut, mixed, and made ON SITE. When you pull into the parking lot and get out of your car, your head will begin to swoon with the scent of freshly smoked meat in the air. Your stomach will rumble and you will know you are in the right place. You enter and are bombarded by sensory overload staring at the sausages, steaks, crablegs (!?), smoked ham, smoked turkey, salamis, kielbasas...folks, the list goes on and on. THEN, and only then, do you start to blink at the prices. Rubbing your eyes, you blink again, only to find that freshly made Italian sausage is $2.39/lb. It's Saturday, 10:30 a.m. and the joint is jumping. The line to get in, that's right, just to get in, is already snaking into the parking lot. This Eastern European enclave tucked away in the culinary wastes of southwestern Cobb is worth queing up for. On holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas it has its own traffic cop. Yeah, it's that good. Praga Ham, $2.89 a lb. Beautifully lean roast beef, $4.19 a lb. A double smoked ham that will bring a tear to the eye of even the hardest of hard core pork lovers, $3.89 a lb. This is the old world. The women, and there's an army of them, work the counter while the rarely seen men work the butcher shop and smokehouse out back. On one visit, a woman in traditional Eastern European attire, Polish perhaps, took exception with one of the Russian women at the counter. and nationalities were disparaged. The Russian counter woman deftly deflected the barbs and the Polish woman moved on to discuss the kielbasa. Piclked herring, pierogies, breads, Duplo chocolate and other regional delicacies round out the fare. For top quality meats, cheeses, and a trip to a far off land without the intrusive cavity search, Patak is the place. I'll miss this unique experience. read more

I'm gonna be THAT person, sorry. After seeing and hearing soooo many good things about this place, I ventured out last week. I didn't give a damn if there was gonna be a line or not cause I have nothing better to do right now. (And this is my last winter break and I saw someone compare it to like an early peak at retirement so I'm not playing the I'M BORED game ever again with a break. It was either this or clean.) And yes there was a line, on a Wednesday, early afternoon, and it never abated. And seriously some lady leaving tells the people behind me after I was there for 5 minutes that it's going to take an hour. Oh right because everyone in line came from nearby and just wanted to drive 40 miles for no reason. Get lost. It's 2012 so I have a smartphone to waste time and that's more productive than what I'd be doing at home...probably napping. Finally get inside. You're like, oh it's so great I finally inside but it's still a wait. I get some bread that looks tasty for making some pressed sandwiches. Finally. The counter. I want a pound of roast beef, and 3 pounds of smoked kielbasa. That's it. So that's all done and oh, she tells me: you don't have to wait in line for a few things like that. You can just go to the register. Um...thanks, that's really great and helpful now. And I don't know how true that is, because this guy in front of me still was ahead of me to check out and he wasn't told that. So I get my two meats, my bread, and a bag of pierogi. Hooray. $26.25 for all this lovely stuff. Get home. I would think if you work in a freakin' shop where everything is measured in pounds you wouldn't suck so much at weighing? The roast beef, I seriously only wanted a pound. I was given 1.38 pounds. (I expect this crap from Teavana.) The kielbasa? I REALLY wanted 3 pounds of that to take to my mom for Christmas, it's 2.7 pounds. Really? You couldn't grab one more, 3 pounds was not a suggestion. So that's nearly 10 ounces off from the entire totals I wanted. Feelin' very McKayla Maroney over here. Y'all promised me a gold and I feel like this is silver at best. At least I got a free Christmas gift of a Milka white chocolate bar out of all of it. And the roast beef and the bread did make an awesome sandwich. But honestly that kielbasa can be the greatest thing ever crafted from animals on the face of this earth and I would not care. It was not the greatest thing ever crafted from animals on the face of this earth. My grandma was the first to try it, and when we asked her how it was, she said it was missing something. Since sadly my grandma is missing something herself (she is in a nursing home and the first time I visited her, she told me there was an Armenian festival going on the previous day and there was red wine EVERYWHERE, it was really disappointing nobody saved any for me), the rest of us tried some and agreed, possibly just garlic. Not to say the sausage isn't still good, because if you mess up sausage you don't get tons of good reviews for years, but it's not at all like the sausage I remember from the Polish markets in Chicagoland. And now I'm reminiscing about some of that stuff...lawd. The pierogi I bought here is a kind I have actually gotten before at Buford Highway Farmers Market. I was thrilled to turn on my TV one morning and see Fox 5's Road Warrior in my beloved Patak. I try to get here once a month for Russian Salami, Fresh Polish Sausage & Brats, Smoked Franks, Keilbasa, Kabanos, and smoked pork Chops. The fresh meat prices are unbeatable. Sliced sandwich meats are so much better than the grocery store, and definitely more original. Favorites include the smoked chicken breast and pastrami. Try the garlic bacon, if you're not that adventurous they have pepper bacon and regular slab bacon. Married a meat and potatoes man, Patak supplies the staples of our daily lives. And now that it's summer time again, I hate to cook indoors. This place is made for people on a budget...I can usually get what I want and leave for around $30!! Twice a month Jorg brings his delicious desserts from his Bakery in Fayettville. Cannolis, Stuedel and a yummy thing that is a chocolate dome with chocolate mouse inside. The instant I walk into Pataks I am back in Europe. The quality exceeds any Chicago meat market and the prices don't reflect the quality. The selection of meats, cheeses, and the wall of European condiments and candy is something to experience. I always order extra meat knowing it wont make it home... The smoked pork chops are the best I've ever had. Brats, Knocks , and the best Italian sausage outside Chicago. The bacon is sliced for your order and your thickness. First visit? walk in and stand in the middle of the store and look around. Once you're ready get in line and when it's your turn the assistant behind the counter stays with you until you're order is filled. again, unbelievable... read more

MEAT IS GOOD! This is that place in in Austell that you can find simply by the smell...and thats a good thing! European smoked meats but the pound and at reasonable price's too. Don't expect any hand holding if you are unsure of what you want... You'll garner stern looks from the staff (some of these folks survived genocidal dictators for Christ's sake) as well as the customers who just waited in line behind you (for 10-40 minutes depending on the day and time of year) BUT if you take a look at their website for some idea's you go, ask for help, and ask for a taste they are more than happy to cut you a piece of Czech, Hungarian, German, Polish, _________ (insert any other Mid or Eastern European country here.) Try the slab bacon, get a few German Schnitzels, and fill you pants with a variety of sausages and go home and make the neighbors jealous with the smokey, meaty smell wafting form your kitchen... I only shop at the farmers market but with inflation, I was about to become a vegetarian! So I braved the weather and waited two hours in line. It was worth it! I couldn't believe a pound of bacon was the same price as it is in the store except it's freshly sliced (as thick or thin as you like). The pork breakfast sausage is my favorite and their oversized beef hotdogs (stringed together like in cartoons) are good too. The smoked pork chops are divine and don't even have to be seasoned. If you don't feel like cooking, just cover the pan with foil and bake at 375. We got about two weeks worth of meat for $44! PS There are no lines on weekdays unless a holiday is approaching. read more

I was throwing a surprise birthday for my husbands 40th birthday and wanted to make it an Oktoberfest theme. I'd asked around about where I could get a massive quantity of high quality provisions and someone recommened Patak. At first I thought that they were pulling my leg..."Patak" sounds like it might be a good place to buy a burqa or something...but definitely not THE place for smoked meats. But I figured I should check it out and HOLY smoked links...this place is the shizzle. Truly. Not a burqa in sight...just every kind of meat I've ever heard of, shoved into sausage casing. They also have an overwhelming array of non-sausage stuff...but I was there for the wieners so I didn't really pay attention. One word of advice for the newbie: the chicks there take it all pretty seriously. You should probably have a pretty good idea of what you want to buy as it's not really a "I'm just browsing" kind of place. read more

Ok, now I understand and I apologize. I was talking smack about the guy in front of me and the fact that he hauled a body bag's worth of roast beef out of this place. But it was I and my puny 2lb bag of roast beef who deserved the ridicule. Next time I'm in an Arby's I'm ripping the bell off the wall and taking it to Patak and ringing the hell out of it. It's the only roast beef I've eaten that made me pause during each bite, thinking "That's it. I've just figured it all out. I'VE GOT IT!" It's very heroiny. The guy in front of me has a problem. They offer samples, so I highly recommend bringing a change of pants. Their samples are like those pet stores that let you lease a dog. After the sample, you're not NOT buying some. "My God. I can not stress enough what a fantastic butcher shop this is. The quality is second to none - toe to toe with any in the country. Here they focus primarily on European meat curing styles and they do it perfectly. Having spent years in Europe this is the only place state side that I have found the authentic European charcuterie flavors. I have never had a single thing that has disappointed me. Aside from the cured meats and fish, they carry a decent selection if too quality fresh meats as well. The sausage stuffed pork tender loins are amazing. While they do have the typical cuts is fresh meats, you will not find many exotic cuts, or whole primals or birds - just the typical grocery store cuts. If meat is not your thing, you are weird and they do still have some European cheeses, mustards, candies, breads and various other yummies. If you are within 30 miles or so, take a cooler and go. You will be a better person for doing so. read more

The 5 Star average is dead on. I had the benefit of going during the week so I didn't have to deal with the line. You walk in and all you smell is spiced meat and all you see is meat as far as the eye can see. It was the best kid in a candy store experience I've had since well since the last time I was a kid and in a candy store. I can't really describe how good the products are but everything I had from my bag of meat has been the best kind of whatever it was. And the prices well they speak for themselves. If you're a sausage aficionado, it will be difficult for you to get out without acquiring more groceries than you can consume in a reasonable amount of time (most freeze well, though). Tips for first timers: Try to go on a mid-week morning, or maybe early afternoon. Avoid, unless absolutely necessary, or you truly enjoy standing in long lines out the door, the Saturdays they're open, or the days before a holiday weekend. An overflowing parking lot heavy with out-of-state tags as well as more than the usual locals awaits you then. If you don't feel you have to get in line right away, browse a bit first for non-meat items and to get an idea of which meats you might want. If the luck of the draw when you get up to the counter awards you one of the older European women to pull your order, you don't want to be dithering too much in your selections; some of them seem to have honed their customer service skills in Soviet-era Bulgaria. The excellent on site processed and smoked meats make it all more than worthwhile, though. You'll be glad and you'll be back. read more

Patak is less than a mile from my office over here on the EW connector. You'd never be able to find it unless you google mapped it or just knew where it was. But it is worth a modest drive even if you are not close by. The meats are spectacular. My brother and I have the luxury of going during lunch to get freshly prepared roast beef that has just come from the oven (don't close the bag or it will overcook the meat). I take some of the horseradish they sell and make a horseradish mayo. A good meal at a good price. Everything is good here and prepared on premises and they are more than willing to give out samples. I always have to sample the sausages. As an added bonus they sell other fare ranging from pelmeni to assorted chocolates and confections. I asked if they sold imported Russian Vodka. Unfortunately, they do not. :( read more
