Patel brothers is a large American- Indian supermarkets chain. As someone who like Indian food, I come here every fee months to stock on some of the Indian staples. I like the fact that a lot of Indians come shop here. Although it's mainly Indian food items, everyone can find great finds here. The store has veggies, fruits, all sort of lentils and beans, nuts, spices, yogurts, frozen foods and much more items for kitchen and decoration. I usually buy some nuts, spices, few veggies that I am familiar with( I am not familiar with all the ones they have), paneer cheese, ( hard white cheese) naan( great bread) and some dry snacks( they are sometimes spicy so watch if you are not used to). I like to shop here because of the variety, the many options they have of spices and nuts. The low prices- You can't bit the price of most items. If you feel adventurous I recommend you come and try some frozen ready made items or even try some new spices or veggies. The only reason I didn't give this place a 5 stars is because the isles are very narrow. Sometimes it's not easy to move the cart through, especially when the place is packed ( on weekends) and when they restock. read more

Went for the first time today and will never go again. Went to grab a few ingredients for an authentic biryani and I was extremely excited since I've passed by the store since I was a child and never had a reason to stop in. Unfortunately, I was greeted by unfriendly employees who would walk in front of me with their carts and stop directly in front of the display I was looked at, no excuse me or apologies, but this I attempted to ignore. This is even after realizing we were being followed in the aisles. One make employee who seemed irritated with my presence would ask "need help?" And then almost slap me with the ingredients while handing it to me, and talking down to me when I grabbed certain ingredients. It made me feel extremely unwelcome. No smiles, no courtesy. Although I did appreciate the help finding the ingredients. The icing on the cake for me however was the lady up front. While she did provide help when asked about a few ingredients, while my partner and I were looking at my shopping list at my phone, the woman kept calling to my partner saying "Sir, Sir, Sir, Sir" a million times and forcing us to the register. Despite me saying numerous times we were not ready to leave. We ended up going to another store to purchase the rest of our ingredients, which had much better selection, prices and customer service. This experience left such a sour taste in my mouth that I will never ever return, especially after learning of their superior competitors. Do better. read more

As a home cook that loves to learn about different cultures through their food, this grocery store hits the spot for anything you need for the specialty items you can not find at Publix, Walmart, Sprouts, etc. I suggest doing your homework before going in otherwise it can be very overwhelming trying to figure out what things are. Pick a recipe that you want to try and get familiar with the translations. For example: I wanted to try making Khaman dhokla. It's made with gram flour. So I Googled "What is Gram Flour". BTW "Gram flour or besan is a pulse flour made from a type of ground chickpea called the gram chickpea." Understanding what it actually is helps remove the stress from looking for the item and cooking the recipe. Get out there and try new recipes. Take the time to research the culture and try to learn some history behind their food. You will open yourself up to a whole new wonderful world! P.S. This is a typical chain Indian market. I seem to find all the Indian spices I need and everything is organized. I love coming here for the Indian desserts, snack and chai tea. Items are always well stocked. I would suggest them working on customer service, don't get me wrong they aren't rude but they also don't go out the way to help customers. Super Patel Bros. is a chain of Indian groceries stores. They sell fresh spices/fruit/vegetables, packaged meals, snacks, rice/flour, and frozen entrees and desserts. The store is generally clean. If you are a vegetarian, you could probably manage going here for all your grocery needs. Their produce and spices are really cheap (especially compared to Publix and even Walmart at times). I don't go often but some of the items I like are: Haldiram's Hara Chiwda snack mix (curried rice krispies, golden raisins, and cashews) Bourbon chocolate biscuits(a rectangular sandwich cookie with chocolate cream) Various frozen kebabs Frozen Samosas with spinach and cheese (green/purple packaging) Cons: Many of the dry goods are kept long past their expiration date. This isnt Publix where they update inventory frequently. Check before you buy. The aisles are very narrow. Prepare to do a lot of squeezing. Some of the frozen items are a bit overpriced (especially meats and frozen dinners) Overall: A good place to get your Indian foodstuffs. read more

I've been to India many times and here is where I come when I decide to attempt to duplicate a dish I've enjoyed. It's never worked but that is no fault of Patel Brothers. My Biryani was nothing like what I had in Hyderabad. My Dahl just doesn't stand up to close inspection, etc. Still, it's fun to try! Apparently, to really make proper Indian food, you must be taught my your mother and/or grandmother. Nothing else will do. I've even had a few nice ladies here tell me what ingredients to get to make a favorite dish. They are so enthusiastic but I'm so far, unable to make it happen! Maybe I'll construct a Tandoori oven in my back yard?! I went to a picnic once in Chennai and they had a Tandoori oven made out of an oil drum. Hot damn it was a freaking furnace and combined with the fact that is was 100 degrees (a relatively cool day), out came amazing naan and chicken. read more

I've been meaning to go check this place out a long time and I am thrilled to find so many treasures in this well-stocked Indian grocery store. It has plenty of fresh produce, spices, snacks, frozen foods, and kitchenware. The prices are very reasonable and you can buy spices in bulk (so much cheaper than in any grocery store). Like the previous reviewer said, the aisles are very small so if you go during the late afternoon on a weekend (like I did) be prepared to be stuck in grocery car traffic. It's right across the street from the Asian Grocery Store MD Oriental so I am looking forward to going to both places on my monthly re-stock of my kitchen! Patel Brothers is a first rate Indian grocery market with an impressive selection of produce, instant meals, frozen foods, snacks, breads, decorations, etc. Quite clean, good service, reasonable prices. If you aren't that familiar with preparing Indian foods the MRE (Meals Ready to Eat) style boxed pouches of various dishes are a good way to start. Just make rice, boil or microwave the pouches per the direction, and pour over top. There are also various salty snacks sold by the pound. And there are lots of frozen foods. Naan is easy to heat up in a toaster oven. You can build from there and ease into the spcies, exotic ingredients, and from scratch preparations. :) Fellow customers are also usually helpful and willing to make suggestions. read more

This is the staple and very much necessary for any Indian living in Tampa. And for all else, a place to nab excellent deals on things that are usually highly overpriced in general American supermarkets (turmeric, fresh fruits, veggies). You can buy rice and flour at bulk. There's also a nice frozen food, ready to eat section which is pretty extensive. I give this a 4 star rating because it's about as good as we've got in Tampa, but if you visit the other locations (Atlanta, Orlando) they completely blow us away. The aisles are way too crowded here so I would suggest coming mid day or weekday evening-definitely avoid weekends read more

I love this place! I love ethnic groceries in general, but this place is the best of the best. It's clean, it's well stocked, and the prices are great. There's tons of produce (so much that I don't even know what some of it is), and everything is beautiful and fresh. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the spices are so cheap and plentiful. Why spend $6+ on, like, 5 cinnamon sticks at Publix when you can have a whole bag for the same or less? They also have various prepared foods (dried as well as frozen) from the Indian subcontinent. I admit, I don't know what a lot of the stuff is, but everything I've tried has been good. Also, Jai Ho Pure Veg is two doors down, and it's Ah-may-zing. You can check out my review. Lots of interesting items can be found in this grocery store. The store is very clean. They have a lot of nice fresh produce, a number of items I couldn't identify but I love to learn about things that are new to me. They have tons of spices and spice mixes, prepackaged heat and serve sauces for Indian dishes and a huge frozen food section. There had to be over twenty different kinds of naan bread alone. Even though the prIces on some of the frozen food did seen excessive there were reasonably priced items as well. Overall there is a great selection at the Patel bros. grocery and I will be back. The only minor gripe I had was it is a little cramped especially when I go to a place like this and want to look at as much stuff as I can and it is too tight for other shoppers to easily get around us and our shopping cart. read more

Cool Indian grocery store in a big shopping plaza on Fowler. It's not very big inside, but it has quite the selection (better than the ethnic aisle at Publix, that's for sure!). If you're like me and have no clue what you're doing when you go into unknown food territory- just own it. But realize that no one here is going to reach out to help you out. Wander the aisles a bit, grab something you've never tried before. A good spot to start would be their "ready-made' section, where they have packets of premixed spices and all you have to do is add the meat and produce. This is a great place to go to get spices in massive quantities! Turmeric? No problem! You can grab a 5 lb bag if it, if you so desire. FYI: This is also a great place to go to get sesame seeds. You can to to Publix and get a small 3 oz. container for $2, or you can come here and get a large bag for the same price. Their produce section is small, but they make up for it with their supply of canned goods. Good place to come and mix up your cooking routine! Just make sure to check dates on things; I didn't until I got home and found out that one of my seasoning packets will expire soon. read more

Not even worth One Star. I called them today to see if they had flour available. I live 40 mins away and didn't want to drive down to end up not finding any. I called around 6:10pm or so some woman picked up the phone and she said" I cannot go and check", however she could have said let me find someone to check". Instead she hung up the phone both times my husband and I called!! Terrible. I understand they get busy at times however hanging up is not the way to treat someone when we have been such good customers!! read more

My experience with Patel Brothers has been extremely disappointing and dissatisfying. The owner of the store is very rude, very arrogant and does not know how to treat the customer respectfully. On two occasions we found the products of their private label (Swad) highly dissatisfactory. On the first occasion the Swad Atta that we bought was full of webs. Luckily we had saved the receipt so the owner was forced to change it for us. This time the white channa we bought was full of worms. Unfortunately we misplaced the receipt so we were not expecting a refund but we still wanted to bring it to the notice of the owner. So we went there but the owner spoke to us so rudely blaming us of lying that we bought it 6 months back and now we are claiming that we purchased it shortly to get a refund. His behavior was highly uncalled for.. the price of the white channa was way less than the price of gas we would have burnt to reach there. My question to the owner is even if I had bought it 6 months back (which is incorrect) where on the packet is it labeled that this product is best before 6 months or where on the packet are the storage instructions mentioned. Rather than owning the mistake he was blaming us. I am writing this review to warn the customers about the ill quality of product and more than that about the disrespectful behavior that the owner has. I wish I had the option of giving minus 5 rating. read more

Staff could try to be a little more friendlier. Came with a friend who was not "properly dressed" as she was showing some cleavage. The older lady at the checkout counter gave my friend the dirtiest look. Learn to treat customers with respect regardless of their attire or ethnic background. Great place for Indian Groceries. There is a large variety of items and fresh vegetables. The aisles are very narrow so it is better if you arrive early and beat the crowds. The store opens at 10am and I would arrive around that time. Wow, what a place. This place was the first Indian market I have ever been to and I was taken by all that is there. They have a nice variety of different fruits and vegetables that east Asians like myself can use. They have bins of snack items that you buy in bulk. I like the many different things to try. This is the far best East Indian market in the Tampa area. A very wide selection of frozen foods, spices, herbs, fresh vegetables, sweets and grocery items. The owner is friendly and ego free. He personally welcomes and greets every single customer. The offer complementary tea,coffee and snacks.The store is extremely tidy. I once noticed a female staff driving/operating the floor polisher/cleaner in the stockroom/warehouse area. All staff members are friendly, assistive and pleasant. In my most recent visit, a staff member was a personal shopper for me for I didn't want to leave my K9 in the car. read more

We got to the store at 8:56pm and despite the posted signs stated that they closed at 9:00pm we were denied entry. While we're were asking to get in the store, the "boss" allowed a customer of East Indian decent to enter the store. My wife and I saw that they allowed this customer to enter the store and pleaded our case that we got there before or at the same time as the customer they allowed to enter. My wife and I are both black and I cannot for the life of me believed that they would have done this with employees watching in disgust as well. Horrible people, terrible experience. read more

Good place to get a lot of indian stuff. . But do not buy items like onions, tomatoes or even coconuts. Poor quality sourcing keeps the price low but when you open the products they are usually damaged or stale. Add their no return policy n you just flushed a lot of money down the drain read more

Be careful when you buy products in patels. They will put a re sticker on already expired products and re sellling it.
