The doctor I saw was experienced and attentive. Part of why I chose this business is having lab, X-ray, and Rx on site, as I did not want to run around town. I was not speaking to her. She appeared racist in nature and I was in short pump. She loudly states if I did not go into my room she would put me out. Came in today for strep throat. Today reminded me to update yelp about the positive attitude and spirit of staff. From initial intake to vitals with nurse and follow up with doctor - all good. It is evident from conversations of those around me that the staff seem to have comfortable working relationships with one another - including humor which I can appreciate although not feeling great. I'm sure the struggle is real working with sick people all the time but this group seems to push through. I've been to this location about 6 months ago and forgot to share m experience. Compare to Short Pump Care Now, this place is heaven on earth. I was treated to badly at CareNow by their NP, secretary, management. I was prepared to expect the same treatment. I had to go there the next day after Christmas, I was in so much pain and had to travel to another country and was ready to cancel the family trip. After waiting over two hours for some simple prescription refills, I had Dr. Mohlie come in only to ask if I'd like to come back tomorrow - ostensibly to wait for two more hours! I found this to be quite rude and highly unprofessional. I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Mohlie, whom I watch standing around drinks coffee several times. Am told another 45 min wait just to see the doctor, not including the checkup/labs etc. It's past 8pm, facility is closed, yet no sight of doctor or anyone. After check in, seems all rooms are occupied for about n hour, I see patients coming out but we are still waiting. This doesn't make sense on how slow this place is for non urgent matters. I've been there four times. This is a great-looking facility--very clean and professional-looking. The receptionist and intake technicians are very friendly and efficient. As a former med rescue flyer, I'm very familiar with patient privacy rules and took it seriously for my 20 years in that job. And that's where this facility diverges from professionalism to crossing the line. All the exam rooms face a central corridor area where the paperwork and computer-entries get done, and while there's a friendly collegiality to the area, the patients are never placed in an area where they're in a private setting. Add to that a practitioner who may have a hearing problem, as she compensates with a loud voice, and anyone can hear her (and a couple of others) discussing patients' issues and diagnoses. I could certainly hear it, and when she came in to see me, she spoke loudly enough for anyone to hear. I asked her not to speak so loudly, as I was just one foot from her, but she got very defensive and then created an issue out of it. She clearly didn't get it that she has a loud voice, nor that she has a responsibility to maintain patient privacy. She made it all about her. Until Patient First installs actual doors in their treatment/exam rooms, the company should rename their facilities "Patient First (Except for Privacy/Sensitivity." read more

I am unable to wear a mask to to a autoimmune neurological condition- and they were kind to me about it and treated me with respect. No stiff posture and glaring eyes. This meant so much to me. I brought my daughter in because kidmed had some technical glitch and I didn't want to start over and continue waiting with them. The PA who helped us was kind and respectful to me and my daughter. She went out of her way to help as some things needed to be slightly different due to my daughters syndrome. The staff was courteous and extra helpful- because of my muscle weaknesses. Thank you!! Been here many times it's seemed to have gotten worse everytime. Used to be in and out in half an hour to 45 mins. Now every time I seem to wait to be seen for anywhere from an hour and a half to over 2 and a half hours.. only ever had one personable doctor here and I don't think they work here anymore.. not to mention the nurses seem to talk loudly with the same 5 classical songs playing over the intercom and babies and children screaming all the time. I took my 7 year old granddaughter 2 weeks ago on a Sunday for an earache. I figured she had swimmers ear. The lady who saw her (can't recall her name but she wasn't an MD) said it was an "ear infection" and prescribed amoxycilin. 2 days later she wasn't any better and in excruciating pain. Not sleeping. Had to leave school - parents took her to pediatrician who said it was swimmers ear, which is treated entirely different with steroids and drops. I went into PF on 8/22 around 8p with pancreatitis. I have had over a dozen episodes over the last 10 years so I was looking for a quick blood test to confirm, two medications to help me cope and back home to my 13 year old daughter who was home alone. PF took the blood and did a number of tests, but not the one that would confirm it was pancreatitis. Instead they told me the tests they took were inconclusive and that I need to get to the ER immediately as I could be dying. I told the doc that I need to get home to my daughter and that I was very confident it was my pancreas again. (I have actually been to this PF multiple times because of my pancreas. It is all over my file.) The doc gave me a 10 minute lecture that I could miss my daughter's wedding if I was indeed dying. She was almost in tears. All the theatrics and my $10,000-trip to the ER could have been avoided if she had done her damn job correctly. I told her what was hurting. If she had tested my lipase in my blood it would have confirmed my suspicions. Instead I have to go to St Marys to get a blood test done that confirmed it was my pancreas. They sent me home with my two medications a couple hours later. St Marys was perplexed as to why they were drawing blood again after they had just done it at PF. My wife had to cut her vacation with her mother short to come home to be with my daughter cause I told her the doc at PF told me I was possibly dying. It's like I went to an auto repair center and told them my brakes aren't working correctly. They decided they would rather look at my engine and tell me it could lock up at any moment. Is this legal? I had two lacerations treated on my left foot yesterday. One laceration required stitches. The attending phyisician did not administer enough local anesthesia causing feeling the sutures sewn. I told Dr. Mirshahi. She continued. Upon completion she told me I should have told her. I was not given written instructions on wound care. I called today and spoke to the nurse. She gave me verbal instructions that differed from the doctor. I am not happy with patient first. Any written documents were similar to gas station gas receipts. . Really unprofessional. I'm embarrassed that my wife and I use Patient First as a primary care physician. I guess the joke is on us. My wife went in 2 days ago and an X-ray revealed she had a broken foot and they told her to follow up with an orthopedic physician. Ok, cool. The physician asked her if we have anything stronger than ibuprofen at home and she replied no. He then writes her a prescription for...wait for it...ibuprofen. So of course the ibuprofen isn't working and we call two days to get her something stronger to help her sleep and get her through for a few days until her orthopedist appointment and we are told she has to go back in and be re-examined to get another prescription. She has a broken foot. You expect her to go back into the same patient first that inadequately treated her in the first place? So we can pay another copay for you to write us a prescription for something stronger than ibuprofen? Neither one of us are druggies or anything (and there's a way to look that stuff up online anyway). All we're looking for is a little help and this is the "help" we get. Physician (PA-C) attended us at the Patient First at Short Pump VA for School Entrance Health form. Surprisingly I had to go 3 times as the physician couldn't fill in the form correctly, which required just copying the immunization records from our file and on top of that she missed to complete sections on the form. Physician couldn't even identify that a vaccine was missing. But the Henrico welcome centre coordinator was smart enough to identify and advise us each time the corrections required. I was told that she doesn't regularly work here, so I had to see another physician. I am disappointed as I just wasted my time & money each time I visited this centre, and specially considering Covid no one wants to visit a clinic without a reason. Guess if this physician was to diagnose an illness... Pros - I appreciate that at least the nurse had the courtesy to apologise. read more

The place is a train wreck. Expect wait times of over 3 hours. They seem to be typically understaffed in regards the physicians. In addition, other than one time with Dr. Keegan and another with Dr. Laney, the services rendered have been subpar to a standard office visit at other places. So I would advise checking whether Dr. Keegan is in, Dr. Laney typically works in another office. The positive? They are open when others offices are not, they have more diagnostic equipment than some offices, and their support staff (nurses and aids) are very nice and work quickly. Bottom line - expect to wait, and wait a while. read more

It was ridiculous and inconsiderate because I had other things to do that day and couldn't do them because they had me waiting so long just to get two shots and some blood work. My four year old son had a wooden splinter embedded in his hand. His finger was swollen, red and painful. We removed the superficial splinter but there was still a piece embedded deep in the crease of his finger. I took him to Patient First with the intention of someone removing it. However, when the physician came in, he proceeded to tell me "I can take it out but I won't." What?!? Who says that? I know he was concerned about "traumatizing" him but does that really mean it is better to leave it in there when he is already showing signs of infection? I was at a loss. When I arrived for my first visit, I told them it was a workplace injury and that there was glass embedded in my palm. Doctor didn't listen to or believe me, because she "couldn't see it." Finally got her to proceed, she digs around, finds a piece, goes "huh, there IS a little piece of glass here," tells me to come back in ten days to get the stitches out. Fast forward to my follow up, and there's still an incredible amount of pain in my palm. Explain during intake, again, that the original visit was a workplace injury. They hand me a workers comp related release form, which they didn't do the first time around. I explain to the second "doc" that I don't believe all the glass has been removed. This "doctor" (both were actually physicians assistants) tells me that I'm wrong. She says they X-Rayed me last time and there was no other glass. I counter that they DID NOT in face X-Ray me, because they didn't. She goes, "oh. Well, I don't see any, so it isn't there. It doesn't hurt because there's still glass, it hurts because we had to cut open your hand." I was adamant, but the idiot woman REFUSED to take a closer look. Drove straight home, grabbed a pair of sharp tweezers, gritted my teeth, and went to work on my palm myself. An hour of painful work later, guess what I pulled out? A SKINNY PIECE OF GLASS THE LENGTH OF MY PINKY NAIL. Shoulda kept it. But, oh, it gets better. Fast forward a bit, I get a bill from them in the mail for the visits. I've already gotten notification from my employer that the worker's comp was approved. Why am I getting billed? Woman on the phone tells me all I need to do is print and fill out the release form and mail it in, or go to any location and they'll have a copy that I can fill out and just drop off on the spot. Went back to the location and spoke to the rude, incompetent receptionist. "Hi, I'm here because I'd come in previously for a workplace injury, and I was told I need to sign a release form to continue the process, and that I can do that here." He asks what KIND of release form I need. "I don't know, the person on the phone didn't say anything more specific than release form. So, whichever release form you guys use for worker's comp." "Well, ma'am, there are three different types of release forms. I need you to be more specific." "Again, I don't know, she just said 'release form'." It goes back and forth for a bit, then he finally gives me one and tells me that that's the form I need. I sit down to fill it out. As soon as my eyes land on it, I'm filled with rage, because I RECOGNIZE it as the form they had me fill out on my second visit. I fill it out again. Then, I think about the fact that my employer uses a third party to handle worker's comp stuff. So, I think, what if they need the release filled out for that third party instead? What if that's why this didn't get handled right when I filled it out the first time? I go back to the receptionist and request a second form, explaining that I'd like to fill it out for both, just to cover all my bases. He practically refuses to give me a second one, but eventually relents, mostly to shut me up. I look at the second piece of paper, and almost explode cuz the form he's just handed me is: 1. Not the same as the first form he gave me 2. SO FREAKING OBVIOUSLY the CORRECT release form. He'd said there were multiple types, and this one was SO CLEARLY the appropriate one for worker's comp release. The one I'd asked for in the first place. So I fill out the CORRECT form and point out to him his mistake. Suddenly, he's all "oh yeah yeah this is the form we need" He finds the visits I'm talking about, then proceeds to tell me that they weren't marked as worker's comp, they were marked as regular visits. At this point, what little composure I have left goes out the window. "Well, I told them both times I was here due to a workplace injury." Then he goes on to tell me that THEY PROBABLY WONT BE ABLE TO PROCESS IT AS A WORKERS COMP THING BECAUSE THEY MISCLASSIFIED IT TO BEGIN WITH. I explained to him in no uncertain terms that their failure to classify it properly the first time around, when I TOLD them exactly what was going on, was not my f***ing problem--it's theirs. He essentially shrugged, all "well ma'am I don't know what to tell you." So I'm gonna get billed instead of my employer because the people at this location are too incompetent to do their jobs? I don't think so. Hell, I don't even believe my employer should have to foot the bill. Patient First should be covering it completely considering THEY DIDNT GET THE GLASS OUT AND I HAD TO DO IT MY DAMN SELF. Take your business elsewhere. These incompetent wanna be doctors need to be permanently removed from medical practice, and this location should get shut down. I hope it does. read more
