And on a cold day, the crab bisque was exactly what I was craving. The Irishman just wanted a grilled salmon, and though it wasn't on the weekend lunch menu, the kitchen obliged and he enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the server accidentally spilled soup on the Irishman's brand new $400 Barbour coat. Yikes. No worries, we cleaned it up and told the guy not to worry about it. The staff was either dense in the head or rude trying to seat a disabled person in a power chair in an already crammed corner of a full dining room rather than in the very empty adjacent room. The place needs a thorough cleaning (floors super sticky) and the rest rooms are not accessible although there is a hidden one somewhere on site as was discovered but it was found to be without any heat on this 40F day. The reason was simple: Parsons clams. Once you've had them, there is no comparison. I truly cannot eat clams anywhere else--nothing tastes as fresh. When I added oysters to my menu, the response was exactly the same--rave reviews every time. Total fail. The waitress was ok, though stopping by every 5 minutes to ask if everything was good was quite annoying. The 'ice water gentleman' was great. You never asked for water, and when the glass was 1/2 empty, he was there refilling it. Great job! The final score of 2 stars is for the historic inn's ambiance and layout.
