For dessert we wanted something light so we chose the pear streusel and we were absolutely pleased with it. Two of us ate, 2 appetizers, alcohol, 2 entrees a dessert and coffee came to $100 including tip! Well worth every cent!!!! read more

I love seeing a nicer restaurant open again in Old town. It has a European farm house decor. It's in the space that used to be Hullabaloo. They've definitely improved it. The staff was prompt, courteous and attentive. Natalie was great! The food options were a little German, little French, little Italian. I had the lamb with noodles. It was rich, comforting and filling. My wife's squash pizza was great. The beer selection has something for everyone (as long as you like real beer). It was hard to pick one thing from the menu with so many options looking like the right choice. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to go back until we've tried them all. Dined here for lunch last week and was so happy we made the drive over! We enjoy their sister restaurant Rustica in Carmel Valley and had heard many great things about this place! Well the praises were correct! First I love the interior design of the place, has an old European, rustic like ambiance....the food was absolutely on point with flavor and ingredients! The hostess almost doesn't understand the the concept of the "dining experience" Went during lunch and with the restaurant not very full was told I would have to wait 5 minutes for a table when there was several empty tables... Not a big deal except I only had 1 hour for lunch, not their fault but a little odd... This is one of the better restaurants in Salinas. The atmosphere is comfortable and decorated differently, but with class. It is a good place for a business meal, or with friends. The food is very tasty. I have been now for lunch twice, and where the menu is not extensive for lunch, both times it was very good. The shrimp salad is a riot of flavors. Have dined here three times and all the dishes were wonderful, fresh, real food. Ate in the wine room last Sat. (2/8) as we arrived without reservations at 5:30. The free tapas were great and four of us ordered meals as well. The only weird thing was the wine service. Our first bottle was a wonderful South African blend red. The waiter opened the bottle and proceeded to fill all four glasses. Is this something new where you don't taste first? We ordered a second bottle of wine and the waiter brought us a different wine and said it was a similar price, but a better wine. We all kinda looked at each other in amazement as he proceeded to open the wine he choose for us without asking. This server was fairly devoid of personality so the whole wine thing was strange. Kudos to the kitchen, as all our dishes were exceptional- schnitzel. pasta, salad, eggplant, etc. Ate there again on 2/13 (again in the wine room). Overall nothing too special. My boyfriend and I were staying in the area for the night as a pit stop on our way up north and got takeout. Chicken soup was Smokey in flavor and was mostly dark meat. Flatbread pizza tasted a little fresher and had cloves of garlic. Not bad but not great. read more

Salinas has very few good restaurants- PATRIA is great! The service was excellent, wine menu extensive, prices very reasonable. Appetizer was a chicken curry crepe, FANTASTIC! While I have had many great experiences here in the past, Patria has lost my business after my experience today. The food and drinks have always been good and we have celebrated many birthdays with small groups here. Today, I attempted to make a reservation for their 'clock room' for 10-12 people for a surprise birthday for a friend in March. At first the guy on the phone told me that they don't accept reservations for groups over 8 people on the weekends because they are "high volume" I asked him what we needed to do to get a reservation for a surprise party since this is the birthday girls favorite restaurant. We would have been willing to do a banquet menu or anything else. He told me he would see what he could do and put me on hold. When he came back on the phone, he told me that "due to existing reservations" they could not accept a party bigger than 8 on the weekend. Lame excuse considering the fact that they had availability until I said 10-12 people. Not only did they lose at least a $1000 check for that night, but my business and that of my friends who were helping plan this as well! read more

The wait-staff is courteous and knowledgeable if you have any questions about menu items. Their drinks are tasty, especially the Old Fashioned and Manhattans. Non-alcoholic beverages are offered as well, and are equally thirst quenching. The food is fantastic. The Pappardelle pasta dish - a first for me - was delicious. I've also tried the Rabbit and New York Steak, both of which were fantastic. Their appetizers do not disappoint either. The Charcuterie Plate is a must-try. All in all, if you're looking to impress a date, have a quiet enjoyable dinner with a loved one, or just want to try something different in a town over-saturated with Mexican restaurants, give Patria a try. The only thing wrong with Patria is that it's about a three hour drive from our home. If we lived close enough, this would be our new favorite restaurant. Service was smooth. Our server, Baldo (sp?) was perfect. He didn't hover, but he always seemed to be there when we needed something. All of our dishes were wonderful. We ordered a crabcake starter; we almost licked the plate clean. I had pizza (which was large for an individual pizza; I had enough for another meal). I think it was caramelized onions and bechamel (I don't remember the names most of the dishes - sorry). My son had pasta and my husband had an Heirloom Tomato starter as dinner. I ordered the triple mousse for dessert (all of a sudden, the guys realized they should have ordered dessert). It was somehow better than chocolate mousses that I have had in the past. The mousse tasted lighter, yet richer. Every dish was wonderful, and I've only said that in the past of one restaurant - Rivoli in Berkeley. Due to the many reccomendations by fellow Yelpers, I tried the schnitzel. It was excellent. It came with red cabbage and fried spaetzel which were prepared to perfection. The bitters salad as an apetizer was the perfect size and was freshly prepared. The service was excellent and the waiter attentive. The restaurant is made to have a european farmhouse with glockenspiels covering one wall. Just outside the main entrance, a rustic wheelbarrow held fresh onions and potatoes adding to the charm of the restaurant. Came with a party of 14 for work. Because of our expense policies with colleagues who are from different countries we need separate checks for about 5 of us or need to at least split the bill 5 ways. Absolutely refused. When we asked if there was ANY way to accommodate the owner said no. I said it would be nice if we knew that ahead of time and she got so disrespectful and so rude to me. Food might be good but it's not worth the atmosphere. I worked in a restaurant before and I know there are ways to accommodate and if not there is no need to be so rude and make me feel so uncomfortable to be a customer. Would not recommend. read more

I have been here a couple of times with "ok" service. The 2 stars are for wonderful food. Definitely very good food. I decided it was time to write a review. We had reservations. Stood at the entrance for too long before someone approached us. We got seated & our waiter arrived pretty quickly. Not to be judgmental, but he was sweating profusely. We ordered our drinks & appetizer. Kept having to flag him down. First for water, then for bread. Bread came but no butter or plates. The table next to us was having such a good time with their waiter. Not sure who he was, but he had them laughing & very attentive to them. We came to have a nice dinner & have a little fun. Patria is the best restaurant in old town for sure. The food is rich, delicious, and well made. The atmosphere is rustic and beautiful (I love all the clocks) with nice lighting. I've been to patria twice and both times I really enjoyed myself. The first time I went I ordered half a chicken with potatoes. I still remember it because it was perfectly moist and very flavorful. It was cooked perfectly. Their mixed drinks are delicious too, and I would go there just for one of those. Other members of the table ordered the rabbit, and the salmon wrapped in parchment. The salmon was perfectly cooked as well, and was served over delicious wild rice. By the taste alone I could tell they use high quality local organic ingredients. If you're looking for a fine meal this is the place for you. I loved the friendly staff. We had the same waitress both times and she was very nice and was fun to talk to. read more

Visiting for work and we had 12 people in our party. The waiter was extremely fast and everything was not only accurate, but amazing. It's hard to find a place that can actually handle large tables. Here are a few of the dishes we had. All cooked to perfection. The scallop dinner does only come with 3 scallops, but they are large so it filled me up. The NY strip was great and even though the scalloped potatoes were small, the meal was satisfying. If you order l drinks they are large and strong enough to not make them worth it. read more

After a very long day without food, we found this restaurant. Liked the decor, good location and good menu. The second best part, the food! There were three of us. Our dinners were amazing! Perfectly cooked, seasoning was perfect and delicious! Service was outstanding. If I had to have any minus at all, it would be about the portion of salmon to my fish. I was so completely stunned by the quality of the atmosphere and food that I received upon dining at Patria. Their motif is a mix of German, French and Italian, with a menu to match. I had a house smoked pork loin with mustard greens and a sweet potato mash. My wife had a wild boar pasta. All sauces, pastas and meats are made or cured in house. There was NOTHING about our meals that I could consider "Bland" as some others have pointed out... Service was excellent. Drinks are plentiful with a VERY nice selection of beer and wine.
