Every time I come to Quincy on business I hit up Morning Thunder in the morning (fairly early). Coffee is refilled in a timely manner. Solid food, great service, big portions. Cleanliness at acceptable levels. Make a pretty good burger too lunch too. :) I recommend it. read more

Phenomenal homemade food! I had the bacon & avocado omelette while my husband enjoyed the half order of biscuits & gravy. Our drink orders were taken immediately and our food came fast still warm from the kitchen. Servers were kind and attentive. Used to be much better, but food seems to have gone downhill and prices uphill. Many times there are lines, but it's a good go to place as I don't know any other place to go to Quincy for breakfast. Seems that some of the servers are very young and don't really serve much. The vegetaters were great for my non meat eating wife. A Quincy staple. Been serving the same great food for as long as I've been visiting Plumas. (18 years to be exact. The biscuits and gravy are always on my list. So is the Thunder Egg. I love all the options. You can skip side dishes or ratchet up the portions to fit your appetite. Owner knows what she's doing. And all the waitresses are friendly and hustle to refill your coffee often. It's my favorite breakfast in Quincy. read more

A nice cozy place to ear breakfast or dinner. Outdoor seating covered by a grapevine and flowers in the summer where you can eat with your dog so he doesn't have to sit in a jot car. My faves are their salads and sandwiches made with fresh ingredients. Good service read more

My daughter ordered a biscuit and gravy, the waitress brought her a pile of potatoes, biscuits and gravy and a sausage patty. A Huge meal but not what we ordered. When we asked, she said we didn't order the "correct term for 1 biscuit and gravy". It had some cute name but apparently 1 biscuit and gravy is not clear. I was hoping she would adjust the price as my daughter clearly ate 1 biscuit and gravy and not the rest. She charged us full price which was high. We were there 4 days and never went back to that place. The coffee was excellent. That's the only plus. The waitress was rude and could've been a bit more understanding of our mistake. read more

The family and I are visiting the cabin as we do several times a year, we drove 1 hour to quincy just so that my husband could take the kids and I out for breakfast (our one out to eat meal before we go off grid for the week.) I happen to take a business call at the table as everyone ordered, and assuming I would be assisted as soon as I am available to order. Since i needed just a little time, Instead the waitress was VERY HAPPY TO TALK AND TOUCH HANDS with my husband so giggly and smiley, but when she came back to "take my order" she took my menu that I previously had to fight for because she took it from in front of me twice!!! Without my order. I was not able to order my breakfast because instead of her saying "No , please take your time, when your ready to order just let me know, I will be back" When i finally got off the phone, she delivered my family their food, but even at this time She did not offer me any time and only said "So you don't want anything, ok" tried taking the menu out of my hands but i wanted to keep it to order but POOF And she was gone.. my entire family got to eat but unfortunately i did not. Maybe if i was a handsome man she would have let me have the menu and time to get anything. Juice, coffee food... Nope! This chick gave me such a horrible glare it really hurt my feelings and even started talking drama to the other servers I was so hurt and upset i ended up leaving While my kids and husband got to eat breakfast she ruined our family day one for our vacay. Just to preface: I've lived in the Quincy area for about 10 years now and have been going there since well before it was renamed Patti's Morning Thunder. It has not gotten better. Despite the sign at the entranceway inside that states "Please wait to be seated", the staff immediately tells you to "Just sit anywhere". Sat down, asked for regular coffee, the guy brought back a French Roast instead. Really annoying techno-music continually playing in the background over the business's speakers, I would have preferred peace and quiet. Asked the waitress why they did not offer Hash Browns with their selections, she stated that they "only serve FRESH potatoes". I'm not impressed as I see no one in the cook / prep area peeling spuds. That's like saying that they will only serve ham slices with your eggs since bacon or sausage are not as healthy. I don't go somewhere to eat to have someone tell me what I should or should not be eating -I already have a mother. Plus, their "Country Potatoes" are simply cubed spuds with some manner of spice added which I did not like the last time I was there. Decided I could go without bacon-and-eggs this once I went for the pancakes instead with an egg Over Easy on top. It arrived fairly quickly (the place was mostly empty, big surprise) and I started in. Halfway through the pancakes are too dry and I find out the egg is Over Hard. Not happy. Then I notice that there was no butter on the pancakes so no wonder they are too dry. No butter on the side, either. FINALLY get a second cup of coffee, which I make sure is Regular. It does not help and I wind up leaving most of the food behind. On the way out I notice the cook is not wearing a cook hat of any sort or a net. Since I prefer not to ingest her hair or dandruff I plan on going to the better place one block over next time I eat out. read more

Morning Thunder was the last breakfast at very end of a wonderful vacation. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Bucks Lake on our last day. As we walked up to the establishment we were promptly greeted by a bright eyed, happy to see us, waitress. (maybe all the service complaints have been addressed) They offered us the most beautiful outside table for two surrounded by a Napa inspired grapevine canopy. To start we ordered we ordered lattès that would put any suckbucks to shame. Breakfast was served promptly. It was hot, perfectly cooked and delicious. Good vibes, friendly guy who took our drink order, me just water for now and partner has coffee. Partner comments coffee is great. Hmmm, wow this place is expensive, 10.50 for an omelet? Oh well... We waited, and then waited a little longer for sort of slow service for the waitress to come take our order. She takes our order, me a St. something? omelete and partner , their cube steak special. While waiting for food, I order a Ibarra Mexican Hot Chocolate. It was pretty, ok tasting but barely luke warm. A couple of sips and it was cold. Ibarra chocolate is well known, but not for me. Tasted old. FINALLY Breakfast arrives... Beautiful presentation but it all goes downhill from there. There is no flavor, and everthing is coated with grease! Potatoes, Omelete....It was the greasiest omelete ever! Not just the outside but the inside too, tell me how does an omelete get filled with grease on the inside? Oh, I know the saute mushrooms that were smothered in the same grease as the omelete, the potatoes, the cube steak... I know that bisquits are made with flour, but these simply were this, fluffy flour, not flakey. To go with the bisquits is little packets of "Kraft" honey. Thanks but no thanks! I will pass on gamma irridiated honey! Yes, Kraft does this to honey! Ditch Kraft foods! The cube steak was chewy and gamey tasting. It was cooked medium. I know, it usually is sort of chewy, that's why it is tenderized. Still, not worth ordering. As much as I wanted to like this place, sad to say, I will not return. read more

The place is cute and seems like it has a lot of potential, but the food and service just missed the mark. 2 of the 4 of our orders were messed up, and the food definitely didn't taste fresh (mexican omelet). It was a long wait for drinks and for food as well, and I think the staff could care less if you were happy or not. This is a really cool little breakfast and lunch place. Small town charm at its finest. I've tried a few of the other breakfast/brunch/lunch places in town and they are all pretty good but for now this is my go to place. The place is nice and clean. The food is fresh and good. The employees and service are the highlight of this small town gem. I could be wrong but it seems that the employees are family members (the happy kind of family, not the kind that are at each other's throats all the time). a stormfront of bacon and coffee slowly rolling in on your hangover. slightly massif portions of your standard breakfast fare in an idyllic spot. be prepared to get your feed on or get ready for a food coma. the several little outdoor tables are tremendous(except when joe iamsomebody and his 12 friends roll up on harleys), ensconced in a flowery landscape and draped with seasonal grapevines. if you are lucky there are grapes on the vine to nibble on since you'll probably have to wait 30 minutes for a table. try the omlettes or the huevos rancheros. one of the crown jewels of quincy, the abundance of high school girls playing waitress is just icing on the cake. Cute little cafe. Friendly staff, fast service, quite a variety on the menu. I ordered the sunset and my husband the patty melt. Both were delicious. Clam chowder was the soup of the day, it was good. Not the best I've ever had but we are pretty far from the ocean. I would definitely recommend eating here if you are passing through Quincy. They have sweaters for sell if you like to collect those kinds of things. Parking is on the street. read more

We've been driving through Quincy twice a year for years to take/pickup kids from camp and have stopped at Mountain Thunder almost every time. And have recommended to many others. The food is still decent, but agree the quality has gone down abit and prices have definitely risen. My main reason for taking time to write a review and deciding not to return in the future is service. Another reviewer mentioned being snapped at by an older waitress. I won't go into details, but would preface that we aren't terribly picky nor quick "complainers". But when we recently raised a concern (not asking for anything special or free), the response by the older waitress was defensive and quite argumentative. After that we were given the cold shoulder. My teenage daughter, who works at a local movie theater, commented that if she ever treated a customer like that, she'd be written up and possibly fired. Whether she was right or wrong. I know they are popular, so likely won't lose much sleep over losing a long time customer..... Good to see some other suggestions and we'll certainly look into those in the future. We've also received strong recommendations for Anna's Cafe in Greenville about 45 minutes north. read more

Great breakfast spot. Was visiting Quincy for a wedding last weekend and a "local" recommended this place. The omelet I had was delicious and portion sizes were quite large. I've always liked this place I don't live in Quincy but I go every time I visit and I've been visiting all my life. The breakfasts are delicious and the portions are large. I think they are WAY over priced, and the last time I went to Quincy I just couldn't stand the 30+ minute wait so I went over to the Courthouse Cafe instead. I went here in July and still remember it quite well! One of the best breakfasts I've ever had! I got the Breakfast Burrito which was phenomenal. It just melts in your mouth. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and season too. My bf had the Morning something omlette (feta, pesto, sausage) which was also to die for, with a side of their giant tasty biscuits. Service was friendly and not too slow. My only small objection was to the prices - my burrito was abt $9 but it didnt come with sour cream which was an extra $1.25. My bf's omlette was 10. Vital life-saving hangover breakfast on a motorcycle trip. Quad-shot latte was also helpful. I remember being pleased by the bacon. I usually like it well done, FYI. Latte's in beer mugs, which I always think is weird, but it didn't affect the quality of the beverage. This was our breakfast! Lots of food, wonderful coffee, the gravy was really good and it's the owner's recipe! We sat out in the patio with a beautiful view of their flower garden. For years I've seen this place, it has a really cool coffee cup on the top of their building, but I am usually in Quincy after they close. Well I finally made it and it is totally worth it! The hostess and waitress were very friendly and helpful. They both told us what their favorites were and what gets ordered a lot, that's how we decided what to get!
