This is a great restaurant! We flew into Quincy to eat here at Patti's Thunder Cafe. Our friend had a patty melt (that looked fantastic) and his wife had a tuna salad with avocado with a side of ranch dressing. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures because each plate was a work of art and tasted fantastic! My husband had a breakfast burrito that was huge. I had the tuna albacore salad stuffed tomato. It was deliciously wonderful. Entire staff were wonderful, friendly. We're were able to sit and visit. We ordered and our plates were served promptly. Highly recommend the cute place. read more

I had the blt with avacado. It was really reallly reallly yummy. I order a lot of blts and this one was very good. If only it had a little celery salt on the tomatoes and it would have been oerfect. I had a side salad with italian. The salad part was ok. Iceberg base. Way too big veggie cuts to eat all together. Hubby got denver omelet. It was delicious as were the potatoes slices. We loved the California Egg, Huevos Rancheros, and French Toast. My favorite was the hot spiced chai tea! The server was a recent grad, class of #2020 was attentive and accommodating, the restaurant was chill and was able to keep that spirit with the recent governor mandates. Had breakfast here Friday, May 27 with 2 buddies on a motorcycle trip. We rolled in to Quincy, hungry for breakfast. Pulled up Morning Thunder Cafe on Yelp, got directions right to it, parked our bikes and went in. Super nice place, smelled of fresh baked goods. Seated right away, staff was super friendly, owner was our server, she was very attentive. You could tell the pride she has in her place. We ordered quite a lot of food, so we sampled many items. This place is top notch! Food was simply wonderful. No doubt we would return again when in the area. Being such a great location for great motorcycle roads, Im sure a return will happen! Food is microwaved, not even cooked to what you order, and the staff are HORRIBLE! Try ordering a simple ham and cheese omelet, and you will get one without any cheese. If your in Quincy during lunch time and want to grab a bite, this is the place. (Even if your not, it's eorth the drive!) The menu was full of great sounding food and it was hard to pick. It had choices like a Turkey Cran wrap (turkey and cranberry cream cheese rolled up in a tortilla) or their Chicken or Albacore Salad searved in a Tomato or Avocado. I went with the Avocado Bacon Cheeseburger. Great meat that was flavorful and juicey, thick bacon, avocado served with lettuce, tomatoes, pickle and red onion; served with fried potstoes instead of french fries! What more can I say? My husband had that wonderful thick bacon in a BLT with a bowl of their excellent Clam Chowder. He ate every bite! To top that they had homemade desserts. Apple Raspberry pie, Blackberry Gingersnap Ice Cream and what I had, a Blackberry Chocolate Chunk Ice Cream Sandwhich. I did mention the ice cream was home made, right? With fresh blackberries. We rolled up here the morning after a festival. It was pretty crowded and we were all really really tired and really hungry. It was morning to us but I guess it was really more like 2pm. 6 of us crammed into a corner table spot more suitable for 6. We didn't mind. We were hungry. They were out of glass cups so we had to use paper cups for water which kinda tastes bad but hey, whatever, we were thirsty. There is only one bathroom for boys and girls so each time I stood up there were 5 people in line down the hallway for the bathroom. No problem, I could hold it. We waited for over an hour. No joke, probably about an hour and 15 minutes after the lady took our order we started receiving our food. Every single dish was messed up! Forgotten avocado on one, forgot the salsa on one, used the wrong kind of cheese, etc. All 6 of us had something wrong with it. We politely brought it to the attention of the staff and they took care of most of the issues. I was the last to receive my food because they had messed it up the first time (used eggs instead of just egg whites). I had ordered a feta, mushroom and tomato omelet. Well, there was no feta in it and that was the part I was most excited for. I politely asked one of the younger wait staff if I could have some feta. Next thing we heard is the older woman working shout "I'm not giving her extra feta!" and she marched over to our table and said very rudely "We don't give out extra feta." I explained the situation and she said, again, extremely rudely, "We are out of feta. What do you want me to do about it." At this point she had been so rude that my boyfriend got up from the table and my sweet friend jumped in and said "For starters you could be kind to us..." All of us at the table were completely floored. Here we had waited for over an hour patiently, kindly asked for our food to be corrected and said "oh no problem" each time, and now we are getting yelled at? It was absolutely ridiculous. We were all a little heated up from the experience but had to just laugh it off. I feel bad rating this whole place with only one start because of one bitchy woman but it really turned us all off. Additionally, the food was messed up and the service was super slow. The younger staff was kind and nice but this woman was completely rude and should be fired. read more

Very good breakfast, with three coffee options - regular roast, french roast, and espresso. I was so excited to get a latte I was bouncing around in my seat, and they do it the old fashioned way - with the coffee floating in a layer between the warm milk and the froth. Eggs were cooked perfectly - both omelettes and scrambles were fluffy and fresh. The French Toast is not overly sweet - with poppy seeds it has a bit of a savory flavor that really works, and since it wasn't sugary, the crust was not overly brown, or the eggy bread undercooked. It was very nice. The muffins were too sweet for my taste, and the gals serving the tables were nice enough, but not overwhelmingly helpful. This is by far the best place for breakfast within an hours drive. I highly recommend sitting outdoors - it gets really loud inside once the espresso machine starts going and kids start screaming. read more

After an unplanned night stay in Quincy, my husband and I were looking for a good cafe for breakfast. We noticed the menu for Morning Thunder in the room we stayed in. My husband mentioned there was one in Chico and he loved it so we decided to try it. The snow had fallen most of the night so not a lot of people were out and about. The restaurant was cute and simply decorated. We sat ourselves due to the lack of customers on the wintry day. The menu was simple and unique. We were brought drinks right away and I got a choice of french roast coffee or regular. The french roast is awesome, they also have a full espresso bar. I ordered an omelet with mushroom, spinach, ground beef and cheese. I downsized from 3 eggs to 2 and it was still huge. The potatoes were great as well. I got a biscuit instead of toast and it was huge and homemade too! I got a side of gravy to dip which was to die for, homemade as well with sausage in it. My husband got the famous full order of biscuits and gravy which comes with a sausage patty, also homemade, and potatoes. The food was fresh and bountiful and the flavors of the gravy and biscuits were like no other. I would have given 5 stars but the girl, Kristen or Krista took a little too long to take our order because she was talking with the obviously regular customers. We stopped to eat here by chance on a Saturday - the only place we could find open. We were on our way to Lake Almanor. The wait to be seated was not long. I had the Mexican Omelette, my boyfriend had a blue cheese burger, and my son had the chicken fried steak. My omelet was great - full of green chilies, veggies, salsa, and cheese, with home-style fried potatoes. My boyfriend said his burger was good but not great and had an ample amount of blue cheese. My son's meal, on the other hand, was terrible. The meat had a lot of connective tissue, the batter had a very weird taste and texture to it, and it wasn't very good overall. My boyfriend even tasted it to see if he was being picky and he made a disgusted face. The staff was great though! The meal came out within 15 minutes or so. read more

We came from the Bay Area to get a taste of the fall color and stopped in Quincy for lunch before a hike. We were so pleasantly surprised by this cafe. We were seated quickly, had some delicious fall coffee drinks delivered to the table while we looked over the extensive menu. Two of our party chose "all day breakfast" options: an omelette and the pumpkin waffle special. The other got a half sandwich and cup of the delicious soup of the day. Everything was delicious and the serving sizes ample. We appreciated the care they took to keep us all safe... distanced seating, masks, and hand sanitizer. So glad we found this gem. We scored big on our recent Quincy trip in the victuals department, between Moon's and Morning Thunder Cafe. We sat outside for breakfast at Morning Thunder. They were on the busy side, but the service was prompt, and I was really impressed by how the waitstaff really hustled to provide friendly service to everyone. Great coffee. GREAT coffee. If you order a muffin with your breakfast, be aware that it's not an English muffin, but rather a huge banana walnut muffin. We went for bacon and eggs, and the servings were large enough that we actually had to take some of our bacon away with us. (It's good stuff, and cut thick.) Morning Thunder is everything we look for in a breakfast venue. I wouldn't change a thing. Next time we're in Quincy, look for us at breakfast time--you know where we'll be. read more

I haven't been there since I had to stop flying (I used to fly into the airport there and walk from the ramp to the cafe) but it's as good as it gets for breakfast. I've had most of the breakfast menu, and it's Godlike. Coffee is strong, biscuits are huge as are the portions, everything is fresh, waitrets are nice if somewhat slow, and the ambience is great. Sooner or later, I'll get there as a groundling. Note to pilots, get there early if you don't want to get bounced around too much, there is always turbulence in the pattern and if you're not used to flying in the mountains, the earlier you go, the better. Happened upon this place on a Sunday morning while traveling through Quincy. Fantastic service, great selection, and food was fresh, hot and tasty good. Offered a two egg omelet so I was able to order one since everywhere else they seem to be 3 eggs (too big). Good coffee (regular not French roast) and my wife had the Mexican hot chocolate. We sat out front under the eaves with grapes hanging above our heads and full flower planter to add to the ambiance. Regarding the 1 star review; there is a politely worded sign posted at the door asking patrons to refrain from using cell phones in the restaurant. I visited Morning Thunder on two mornings this past weekend. Had breakfast so I can't comment about lunch offerings. Food was amazingly delicious. If Quincy were closer, I'd be passing up our Reno favorites on occasion to come here for Sunday breakfast. When you're going somewhere for well prepared food, you can't expect to be served in 5 minutes. This is the kind of place where you savor some conversation while you're waiting on the food then everyone goes quiet while eating. Service was quite good. My coffee and water refill needs did not go ignored. And the coffee was quite good and yes I'm a coffee snob who makes a custom blend with an Aeropress every morning. Since it's a really good place to eat, you might have to wait for a table. It's not Denny's. Slow down, enjoy life, and have a nice meal. This place is worth waiting for and prices are reasonable. read more

Again the service was great - not sure if we were experiencing great service every where here because the people are so nice or we were on vacation so everything always seems better when you're on vacation. Decent breakfast joint in a town without many options for breakfast. This place is always packed. Service is friendly and very "down-home". I had the vegetable skillet - cooked veggies with melted cheese and sour cream. Was exactly what I wanted and very pleased with it. French toast with poppy seeds is also very good. If you are looking for a fancy experience where you drink your tea with your pinky out, this place isn't for you. Then again, if you are looking for fancy, what the hells bells are you doing in Quincy in the first place?!
