You make the appt for the live interview, to see if your 3yr old dog is a good fit for the daycare and if the daycare is good fit for your 3yr old dog. You walk in and everything looks ok. Your stopped at the front desk. The play area where your 3yr old will spend all of his days cannot be seen. After all your questions are answered and your feeling comfortable leaving your 3yr old at the daycare, you ask what you think would be a common question. When can I set up a time to view the area where my 3yr old will be for the next 8hrs, 3x per day? The area I'm paying for? You're then directed to go online and look at Facebook pics of the area.... I did that, but seeing the Statue of Liberty on a Facebook post is not quite the same as seeing her in person. And personally I'm just not comfortable leaving my 3yr old in a place that will not allow anyone EVER to see the space they are paying for. Suspect. Paws in Play has a policy that no owner can view the play area, EVER. Not off-peak time, not at closing, not before opening, not even Holidays. All of which I offered as possible viewing times. Suspect. Why you ask? They say to protect the dogs. Ok. Why do the dogs need protection from Humans? Paws in Play interview their dogs. I assume the dogs they accept are socialized to interact with not only each other but other humans? I wouldn't take my dog to a dog park if I knew he bit other dogs or humans. Ok policy is policy. I asked the owner if he would be willing to call me at a time where there are NO dogs at the daycare for me to view the space. And he still refused. Referred me to Facebook. Suspect. This policy and the owners refusal to accommodate what I believe is a reasonable request, while still honoring the spirit of the policy got me way too suspicious about what was back there in the play area where my dog would be. The possible condition of the area. I couldn't in good conscious leave my 3yr old at Area 51. Suspect. I would caution anyone who is thinking about Paws in Play. Anyone considering this daycare for their loved one would have to answer the question. How could you trust a daycare that forbids you to EVER see the space in person that 1. You are paying for. 2. That your leaving your loved one for days and hours. Are we putting our loved ones in Fort Knox? What is so bad back there that you don't want anyone to see? Suspect. As a business owner myself, I shared with the owner that I had called 6 other daycares just to see if this policy was common in that line of business. What I found? All 6 understood not letting the public in the area when there are a "ton" of dogs. But to not EVER be able to tour the facility? Even after hours "sounded weird". The owner harshly replied "I don't care what other people think" And from that reply it also appears that Paws in Play struggles with professionalism as well. Suspect. Sorry, I just don't trust Paws in Play. My dog is my child. I could never leave him in a space that the owner is adamant with me NEVER seeing.. Suspect.

We were told when we called for our first daycare that we'd get a tour, but upon dropping our dog off we were told they don't do tours. Why? What is Paws in Play hiding? Daycare itself is fine. Our dog came back stinking, which isn't completely unexpected from daycare, but it isn't practical for us to use this place 2-3 times a week, because after a long day of work, the last thing we want to do is give our dog a bath. Our overnight experience was terrible. When I picked the dog up the staff member handed me his food bag, which was still nearly half full. I just expected them to say he was too busy/distracted/anxious to eat. But oh no, the staff member decided to lecture me about how I have provided far too much food and how I am overfeeding my dog. She condescendingly told me that he was overweight "chunky" and if I cared about him, I'd feed him an appropriate amount. Excuse me? What school gave you a veterinarian degree? Our dog is not only on-track according to growth charts, but we measure his food per our vet recommendations. He's a bulldog, those are rolls of skin, not fat! He's built differently. While I can 100% appreciate Paws In Play's attempt to care for my dog and "advocate" for his health, they were out of line. The appropriate thing to do would have been to follow our guidelines (especially since it was just a one-night boarding), and then politely make suggestions when we picked him up. This was our dogs first time doing an overnight, it was NOT the time to withhold his normal amount of food. He was probably anxious and confused just by being there; Paws In Play didn't need to create a scenario where he was potentially hungry too. Bottom line, they tried to come from an okay place, but their execution and attitude wasn't okay. I would only use this place in a pinch, when all other options weren't available (assuming they let us back after this review). Edit: I highly recommend Wetnoze Pet Concierge in Randolph. Tell them Kendra M. (Chalupa's Mom) sent you!

I also had friends that sternly warned me to stay away, they spoke about how their dogs were abused by staff and suffered serious injuries in dog fights, and how the owner took no responsibility and always blamed the dog. I wish I had listened to those friends. My dog attended for about a month, no issues. I went to pick up my dog one afternoon and was told by a young female employee that there was "an incident " and that the owner needed to speak to me. The owner, Laurie Wagner, came out and said again " there was an incident ", I was panicked, asked if my dog was ok, she sarcastically responded "yah, YOUR dog is fine". She brought me in to an office to a computer and spent a very long time trying to load up a video, I am standing there again panicked and kept asking "is everything ok?", she fumbled with the computer and basically told me to relax.I just wanted to see to my dog. She showed me a video from that day. An employee entered in to the dog area from a 1/2 door, multiple dogs swarmed her, she was patting them, my dog approached her in the crowd and another dog (who I later found out was this employee's dog)snapped at my dog, my dog did not react and just stayed there seeking the same attention as the other dozen or so dogs, the employee's dog again became aggressive with my dog. At that point the employee grabbed my dog violently by the collar, lifting her off the ground, her front legs in the air and drug her off camera. The employee plowed through the dogs in the crowd, dragging my dog while her dog was following, snapping at my dog's rear end.. my heart fell into my stomach when I saw this. Laurie Wagner said my dog was "like a person that no one wants to show up at their party". She said my dog clearly does not respect other dog's boundaries. HELLO! my dog was not aggressive, acting out in any manner, she was not even hyper, interacting with the other dog, just happened to be next to it, she just stood there,she was in a crowd of other dogs seeking attention, she did nothing wrong. She was targeted by another dog. She said my dog needed intense training, she asked if I had children and suggested I was putting them at risk with my dog!!wtf!## she then talked about her training programs and said my dog would not be welcome back until she successfully completes training by Doggie Fun... I was in a daze, just wanted to get my dog. While driving home, I could smell urine, when I got home, I noticed my dog was damp with urine on her paws, undercarriage, under her muzzle, I was perplexed how it happened. Several weeks laters, I by chance ran into that young female employee(who said she quit after just a short time bc she could not stand the dog abuse) she told me she remembered the incident, and that it was not uncommon. She said my dog was put in to a filthy tiny cage, too small for her to even turn around, as punishment and just left there for hours, the urine smell mystery was solved, she had laid in her own pee. She told me the employee who violently handled my dog is now the new owner, an older woman with blondish hair. Stay away from this place at all costs, they abuse dogs, don't believe the pictures. Thankfully other than urine burns, my dog showed no signs of physical or emotional abuse. She is resilient and happy go lucky and thankfully has no effects from the abuse she suffered at Doggie Fun & Fitness. I am glad the "incident" happened, they saw it as an opportunity to sell a training package, but thankfully it turned out to be an exposure, window into an abusive environment. If Doggie Fun &Fitness didn't call my dog out I would have never known about how horrible they are, my dog would probably still be there, being abused, mistreated like the rest of the dogs.

My male Shihtzu Augie has been fired by 5-6 groomers, maybe more. He's sooo bad! He HATES groomers! I have To tranquilizer him for all other groomers and we still get fired! Augie has been a serious challenge so we know why he landed in rescue. We drive over an hour just for Joe as we are 30 mins north of Boston but Joe is worth it!! Joe doesn't know it but we've been fired by yet another north shore groomer just yesterday ‍ so it's back to Joes!

The cat rightfully hissed and the groomer immediately said she couldn't take her. Never seen anyone, let alone a groomer, introduce themselves that poorly to an animal. Absurd.
