So let me be clear Dr.Paul wasn't in the office at all I was seen by another dentist. She informed me Dr Paul no longer work there so I'm thinking why is his name still on this site? I went in to order partial because the one I have is not functioning properly. When I showed interest in getting implants the conversation then was only about how I should move forward with getting implants. I offer to pay out of pocket for a new partial because the insurance wasn't going to cover the cost and they weren't hearing nothing I was saying. I felt pressured into committing to a service I wasn't prepared to commit to. I have to say this was the worst dental experience I've ever had and yes I did walk out. I hate going to the dentist. Wait. Let me rephrase... I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST!! But in order for me to maintain this beautiful smile and take care of my teeth, I have to go once a year... then grin and bear it. I don't want that grin to be boasting some gaping holes in the front. I have wanted to replace a few old fillings and perhaps even look into getting some implants to replace a couple of teeth that were pulled after a root canal gone bad (let's just say that the Dentists that I have experienced, from Western Dental to a couple of other state-paid Dentists, have all been part of the dental tapestry of very bad experiences.) So a few years back, I remember hearing some commercials on the radio for a Dental Implant special and I thought, "well, it won't hurt to call. I have a line of credit available, and I need to buckle-down and get'ir done." So I did. I found the Dental center from the radio commercial but it didn't sound to me like much of a 'special.' In fact, it was supposed to be about $800 for the tooth BUT that was just the base. Of course, you are not just gonna buy a tooth, right? You will want someone to actually install the tooth, with adhesive... if you want the tooth to stay in, and probably some other sundries, like matching your new tooth's color to your old teeth. LOL, talk about sore thumb, er tooth! Well, I decided to look around at the referral place that my credit line gave me, and I saw another dentist in Newport that offered the same services. Newport Beach Dentist is the office for Dr. Palmer and his staff. From the cute guys in the office (the girls work in the back fellas!) they validated my parking, got me in quickly with EVERY appointment and the prices were fantastic! In fact, they billed insurance on procedures they could, gave me a discount on the rest, and gave me free X-ray-s. They worked with me by offering me several options and I was able to choose what would work best for me. Not only did I not feel pressured, I felt like Dr. Palmer took his time and really made sure that my dental needs were met in a way that was reasonable! Besides a great demeanor, everyone in the office was nice and pleasant, every visit! I saw three different dentists, each one with their own specialty, and each one was nice, gentle, and really took their time to make sure that molds were done perfect, and everything fit just right. Interestingly enough, my fillings didn't really hurt, and I had to have an extraction to make room for some bridge work. I have gone to other places where I FEEL the drilling and have to make them stop, and every time had to get more numbing medication, but here, I got one shot, and a little more for good measure and UI didn't feel a thing... which makes me wonder if Western Dental is watering down their anesthetic?! Oh and get this... I have to REDO (crown and root canal) EVERY crown I had done by Western Dental because they used ill-fitting crowns that left gaps and are now filled with cavities? WOW, how sad is that? Especially since the latest was done last July. It's December. So next time, I will save time, money, and get a proper and gentle experience by going to Newport Beach for my dental work. I even FEEL rich going there... after all, my dentist is in Newport. Nickel & dime!!! If you have an HMO hold on to your wallet because they will think of any reason to get more, total up-sell job, absolutely ridiculous. Apparently my insurance for my kids covers nothing because everything and I mean everything was an upcharge attempt. I called my former out of town dentist with what was going on before going ahead with what this dentist office was suggesting they told me to run, literally! The dentist didnt even have enough common courtesy to speak with my wife, the parent about the treatment they wanted to do to my child, ie ORAL SURGERY, complete bull! All they wanted to know was how I wanted to pay, no consult, no nothing! Absolutely ridiculous and rude, never taking my kids there again! Hope you dont either. The dentist called hours after a complaint and apologized apparently they were too busy to explain small things like surgery to my child!!! read more

Full Disclosure - this is for an appointment over a year ago. I decided to write about it now because frankly it still bothers me and I haven't been to the dentist since. I came here when I had a Dental HMO. I made an appointment for Dr. Palmer and got some other dentist instead (if I find his name, I'll post an update). I did not appreciate this because I had researched out my dentist prior to making an HMO selection. Anyhow, I decided to stay and try it out anyway because I drove all the way to Newport. Waiting room is nice, front staff is OK, not the friendliest but hey that's not why I go to the dentist. Now I got in for a regular cleaning and they tried to upsell me after all the xrays and what not. They said I needed a full deep cleaning. I said no (since my previous dentist of several years warned me to be careful of deep cleaning unless absolutely necessary). Also, this dentist (I wish I had his name for you but it is not Dr. Palmer), went into a lengthy discussion as to how brushing my teeth with toothpaste was a scam put on by the toothpaste companies. Okaayyy, if you're going to do that type of thing at the very least present the patient with the journals and studies to back that up. After that they went for the hard sell but I firmly but politely asked for them to just give me my annual insurance covered cleaning no extras. They were both (dentist and assistant) extremely rude after that. They gave me quite a hard time That "cleaning" lasted all of maybe 5-10 minutes and I know they are supposed to last 30-40 minutes and be more thorough than that. But, I was grateful it was shorter because he was extremely rough and my gums bled a lot and my teeth actually hurt for three days afterwards, this has never happened before. I have been getting regular cleanings my whole 30 or so years so I know it's not supposed to hurt that much, its also not supposed to be super fast. I would avoid this practice at all costs, and Dr. Palmer if you're reading you should really pay attention to who you hire as an associate dentist. He was horrible and I would never let him touch my teeth again. read more

My new dental plan had a limited selection of dentists, all HMO's. After researching each, I selected this dental office. Trying to get an appointment was an interesting experience. I called and called, left messages, and sent a electronic message on their website, but no one ever got back to me. This was over the course of 7 - 10 days. I was ready to try a different dental office when, finally one day when I called, someone actually picked up the phone! Once I connected, I was able to get an appointment easily for an exam and a cleaning. I was assigned to Dr. Ektahari for my exam. By the time she was finished I had a list of over $2000 in recommended procedures!! I previously had gone to the same dentist for over 20 years and occasionally the doctor would point out something that he was watching. When I saw him most recently about 3 months earlier, he took x-rays and said everything looked fine. However, Dr.,Eftekhari reported that I had a cavity near a crown and the crown needed to be replaced. Keep in mind I have seen a dentist 2 - 3 times a year for years. The cleaning was also an interesting experience. Once again, there was an effort at an up sell. The hygienist suggested she use a deep cleaning/irrigation process with a special rinse to take care of bacteria. Of course this too had an extra charge. The actual cleaning was one of the more uncomfortable ones I have ever had. There were no rinsing until the very end and the cleaning was rough. For about 3 weeks following the cleaning, my teeth ached. In the past I have never experienced discomfort after a cleaning, even though the hygienist really scraped and dug into my crevices. On a positive note, the front office staff on the day of the visit was very sourteous and welcoming. Bottom line, I will be looking for a new dental office during the new enrollment period this fall. read more

I found Dr. Eftekhari through a random Internet search. I'm not usually so lucky with those, but she's turned out to be a great dentist. Some recent dentists I've used seem to over treat, suggesting procedures I don't necessarily need. Unlike these other dentists, I don't get the sense Dr. Eftekhari over selling me I've been so pleased with her work that I've recommended her to friends and family and me and my family always go there and always happy with the service thank you read more

I had the most unpleasant experience with Paul Palmer, DDS. His staff was professional and nice, yet when he walked in the examination room I felt like I was being verbally violated with personal questions -- none of which had anything to do with my teeth. (Where do you work, where do you live, are you a transplant, where are you from originally, etc.) When I politely said I wasn't interested in small talk but that I was there to get my teeth cleaned, he stopped and said he wasn't getting good "vibes" -- refusing to work on me further. He was acting like a hot dog in heat, rather than a professional dentist. Don't go there unless you want to be subjected to his rude ego and relentless questions unrelated to your mouth! read more

In the interest of full disclosure I am updating my review to include the fact that the management of this office explained that the clerical staff was new and mishandled the situation. They have given me a "full" refund of the $161.00 and also sent a $100 Visa gift card. They profusely apologized and were extremely professional in handling my complaint. They certainly went above and beyond to rectify my complaint so I have to assume that my experience was not the norm for them. They deserve a second change. read more

This is the worst dental center. I went in for a tooth cleaning ended up with a tooth infection. Then i was told to use Clorox beach as as dental rinse. This caused burning and nerve damage. I am now seeing a oral and craniofacial pain specialist Dr. Ali Makki. I have been to 4 other dentists and spent thousands of dollars to try and get some pain relief. WARNING They also charged me hundreds of dollars that my dental insurance had covered. read more

I have been going to this Newport Dental office for four years, now. The entire staff is warm, gentle, and very helpful and thorough in all that they do. Newport Dental Center and Dr. Tandis Eftekhari have repeatedly given substandard care to myself and my wife in addition to what amounts to insurance fraud. We each went to six twice annual cleanings provided by our insurance and on two occasions the cleanup boy was allowed to do the polishing and flossing after the hygienist had cursorily scraped the calculus (doing more damage to the gums than actually removing tartar.) The Listerine is watered down to the point where it is hardly blue and has no taste nor burn, typifying the cost down profit up approach and corner cutting with which this dental office is run. Cleanliness is subpar at best and floors and chairs have been noticeably soiled. Most infuriating is the blatant bait and switch insurance fraud on a lower end DeltaCare policy that the office accepted and was the sole reason we chose to allow them to provide our family's dental care. It seems that this office has accepted the lower tier insurance with no intention of honoring the pricing policy set forth by DeltaCare and uses the insurance only to gain clients with whom they can offer prices on services much higher than those stated in the benefits manual in addition to adding on special services with no codes in the manual. Irrigation (water rinse) during cleaning is stated in the DeltaCare insurance benefits as NO CHARGE yet they refused to give irrigation during cleaning and made repeated attempts to upsell us on a $100 deep cleaning that included "irrigation." My wife attempted to get a price on a occlusal guard for sleeping as hers had cracked. The manual states $100 out of pocket for the patient, yet they refused to make her a replacement for less than $450. On several visits I was given the hard sell on bonding for over $600 on four teeth. I have had wonderful work done by other dentists for far less. The gum recession is affecting my dental health it is considered cosmetic and therefore not covered so that is what the hard sell was directed to with the most vigor. Some of the bonding was covering cracked and damaged teeth from impacts yet the office refuse to acknowledge it as such which would have required following the pre-negotiated insurance pricing. On my ultimate visit I requested the Dr. and then the office manager to highlight the pricing in the insurance benefits manual for pricing on both the replacement of a front incisor crown and on an epoxy filing that had popped out due to recent accident. Both Dr. and office manager refused to indicate what type of crown it would be per the benefits manual. The manager further patronized me by telling me that it could have been any of the 50+ permanent fixtures listed in the manual - most of which are neither crowns nor porcelain as is my damaged crown. However they both insisted it would be specially made, but not for the ~$200 dollar max listed in the manual for the most expensive crown. I then politely asked if they would honor the NO CHARGE for the filing, as stated in the 2016 DeltaCare benefits manual, that had popped out on the adjoining tooth. I was then told that the Dr. must perform and special preparatory service to prepare the tooth for the filing which would have a $195 charge. At this final insult I chuckled and said thank you very much before leaving. Two days later I received a letter from my insurance stating that myself, wife, and children had been dropped by the Newport Dental Center and Dr. Eftekhari and re-assigned to another dental office closer to home. Good riddance. The entire experience has left an unpalatable taste and dirty feeling after dealing with such utter disregard for dental service in the attempt to line the pockets of the so-called health care providers. This will be submitted to the insurance provider's in-house grievance department, the Dental Board of California, and of course Yelp to benefit unwitting patients and to discourage these and other dental offices from engaging in such deceptive and fraudulent practices. read more

I started going to Dr. Palmer on the recommendation of a colleague after moving to OC, and I can say that Newport Dental Center is GREAT. The office and staff are highly professional, they speak highly of the doctors (and they should ... they are fantastic at what they do) and I have never, in my 40+ years, gotten in and out of appointments so quickly. I found Newport Beach Dental Center (i.e. Paul Palmer DDS) through my insurance provider. Originally, I went with a dental center close to my home in Newport Coast. However, after my initial visit, the convenient location was not the only benefit of this dental center. In addition, to a clean and sophisticated looking office center, the staff was friendly and courteous. They answered all my questions in an honest fashion and didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear. For example, I originally wanted in-office whitening, but the dentist encouraged me to do take home trays--even though the take home trays cost ME less money. She explained the benefits of the take-home trays and didn't push the more expensive product on me. At first, I thought the prices were a bit expensive; however, with my insurance and the high quality of service, I happily paid the reasonable price--especially when my teeth felt so bright and clean afterwards. The dentist and her staff did an amazing job cleaning my teeth, taking x-rays and setting up subsequent appointments. Again, the team of dentists and staff at this location were friendly, professional and very responsive to all my questions. I was very happy with my experience ! read more

I have been going to this location since it was Star White Dental. I've really dreaded going to the dentist my entire life. While I'm still not stoked to go to the dentist, the doctors and staff at Newport Dental Center have eased the pain. Everyone here is very nice and professional. I've mainly been seen by Dr Eftekhari. She has an excellent bedside manner and has always explained what she is doing as well as explaining my options if work is needed. I had a root canal done by Dr Crockett and it was painless. I have never felt like I was told that I needed work that wasn't required. The fee has always been discussed up front with no pressure. I would recommend Newport Dental Center to my friends and family. read more

I have serious dental issues... From childhood, dentistry has always been very difficult. The staff were extremely kind and understanding. I just dropped over 3 grand in the past month with these guys and more to come. The only reason I left out a star, is they didn't have any headphones or means to drown out the drill(I mentioned I had issues?) and they don't like to use the happy gas, which really helps me relax. They did give me a little blue pill.. It helped, but the gas would have made it easier. It takes an elephant to knock me out. I am new to the area, and finding a dentist has been very hard. You would think that this area would be crawling with great places to help patients like myself. I guess I was spoiled where I came from. The office is beautiful and clean. The staff were very helpful. They have tvs, but the patient has no view when being worked on...?? So they have a couple of things that could be tweaked. Overall I left okay... So far so good. I'll keep ya posted on my progress.. Dental stuff is huge to me! Please Docs, fix the TVs so we can see them when reclined. read more

The best dental office ever. I never have to wait for appointments and there is no wait time when I go there. They call me in right away as soon as I sign in. The staff is very friendly and always greeting me with a smile. The insurance girl is very helpful and helps me with my benefits and breakdown. She totally helped me with my paper work. She has been so awesome with my Invisalign treatments. She explains each step thoroughly, and has done an excellent job with the treatment plan. I had my teeth straighten with my Invisalign and it was the best decision of my life. The doctor was very helpful and kept telling me on each step what will take place and how my teeth will move. I love how they turned out. I love to smile now and show off my teeth. The Doctor told me to use bleaching gels with my Invisalign and as my teeth was getting straight they got white also and it was so cost effective. Before that I was thinking about getting in office whitening done and it was going to cost alot and after I mentioned this to the doctor she told me right way to get the beaching gels and it totally saved me lots of money and time. As result I got some white straight teeth that I can't stop showing them off. They arranged for financial monthly payments and it made the whole thing very affordable for me. I had recommended a friend that also had invsiaglin done at another office and he was not happy with the result. So here they did an evaluation and did an express refinement case for him and in few months got him the result he wanted. He was very thankful also and he said he never thought his teeth can be as straight as it got . So we care very thankful. The office also has other great perks. The office validates parking but they do have nice three parking spots assigned right in the front and it is usually available. But if I want to park my car in a covered parking lot there is a very nice structure next door and like I said they do validate so its totally free. read more

After avoiding the dentist for as long as I could (more than 5 years), I finally came to see Dr. Eftekhari at the recommendation of my co-worker. Dr. Eftekhari was so nice and so professional! I wish I had met her sooner so I would've taken better care of my teeth. She patiently explained to me what she thought was best for me. Another reason why I am giving Dr. Eftekhari 5 stars is because I had this ugly grayish looking crown on my front tooth fixed. She changed it to a newer type of crown and it now looks so much more natural. I can finally smile with soooo much more confidence. read more

I always had a hard time to find a good dentist until a friend recommended me to come to this office. The staff are amazingly nice and so helpful. My mom and me both started coming to this office and we love it. The doctors who work at Newport dental office are really experienced and know what they are doing and not like other dentists. I got three fillings and they did an amazing job and my teeth are not sensetive anymore. My mom also got a filling and a crown and she is really happy with her results. Honestly, I really don't write good reviews but this dental office deserves it. I had a hard time finding a good dental office for the last 4 years and I would always switch my dentists until I found Newport dental Center. read more
