NIGHTMARE. I will Add pictures of the damage over time but this is a handyman that passed a test to get a License. Please Please Please stand clear !!!! This is the best word to use, "Nightmare" as all encompassing. The work is "Clumsy" at best but he leaves a mess with no prep work to protect the house. He demolished a huge master bathroom with no plastic curtain (or any protection) for the rest of the house. I came home to white debris so thick that "I" had to buy a plastic curtain to protect the house not just the master bedroom. I paid cleaners to wipe the whole house clean of the demo. It really looked the New York after 9/11.Then, he tears the plastic down the next day. He said it's not convenient. He lays down NO protection for he floor. His response "I didn't plan on damaging the Bamboo floor". Yes, We had to buy it ourselves. Uses a "Hand Saw" to cut 24X48 tiles. Then, at the end of the tiling job, buys a new & proper blade. Stated, it cuts like butter now. What!, why not buy it up front!. He hires very capable sub-contractors but has them bid so cheaply, that when they painted, he wanted extra to tape around the ceiling to have a straight line. Who in their right mind would think this is the manner to run a business or treat a customer. He demands checks the next day or he will leave you (evidence of text to come). Always threatening and bullying. Kind as can be until the job starts, then, Watch Out. This was supposed to be a 4 Week job, but it took 2 weeks to complete a demo of a 2 day job. We are now on 4th month and he is not returning calls. (Very nice Paul!, very professional). He comes at 8:30 and leaves at 11am or 12. He then blames us for making changes. Yes, Changes from what was 'planned' and 'provided on paper' (evidence of this to come) also his "Bullying" way to do what he wants not planned. There is so much more, including bringing my little 5'2 wife to tears nearly everyday by talking down to her with such disrespect and his bullying ways. All because she researched what saws to use and we confronted him but said "Everyone uses these saws". Please Paul we are adults and not children. Please understand this is a "HANDYMAN" and no more. He didn't even know where the water came from to fill a stand alone tub. He actually asked my wife, What's this" and she replied it's a filler; it fills the bath with the water, her reply, then what is this; she stated, that's the water overflow!... Just so sad we got stuck with such incompetence. We had to call the tub distributor to find out how to install the tub, no joking, the customer had to tell him how to install a basic stand alone tub. Evidence is to come in pictures, of him stating, Yes, "I can" install a jetted tub, no problem The final straw was a walk through of a sheet rock and paint job that failed miserably but, on audio recording, which I recommend you do (if you are already stuck with him). He said he would have the sub-contractor fix it, then I took a day off and waited for them. When the painter/Sheet rock contractor came, Paul would pay him to do the repairs. This was consistent as the lies are constant for example he stated "I have remodeled 500 bathrooms" really Paul?. As you can see this is just a.... Yes, you got it a "Nightmare". Please check back for constant updates as its Xmas and he has left us high and dry with not running water, no shower, no bath, no toilet for the holidays or more now that he is "missing in non-action". Let's face it, renovating a house can be one of the most stressful things you and your significant other can go through together. Learning from your mistakes can get costly and time consuming. So here's my advice after a 3 1/2 month renovation, call Paul Barry from PLB Construction in the beginning! You can thank me later. My wife and I hired PLB to build a custom kitchen for our home after meeting with half a dozen kitchen builders. We originally hired Paul because of his past kitchens as at least 3 of the houses we looked at in Tustin Ranch were built by him. When asking our realtor if she knew who did the work, Malena (from First Team) gave us Paul's number. Paul works with a cabinet maker (review forthcoming) and their team approach ended with a kitchen both my wife and I absolutely loved. Paul and Leon took all the ideas and designs from my wife and a interior designer and made it into reality. My wife's review of the kitchen is on this site. My review is on the 2 bathrooms and built in that we had Paul complete. Because we were so happy with Paul's work on our kitchen, we asked him to finish 2 bathrooms we were fully renovating along with a built in for our family room. Excuse my photography, both bathrooms weren't wide enough for a straight on photo. But as you can see, Paul's attention to detail and thoughtful questions along the way, gave us exactly what my wife envisioned. Guys I hate to admit it, but the line, happy wife, happy life can't be more appropriate when referring to a remodel. As for the built in, please excuse the unfinished fireplace. My wife made another change midstream (yes, she was ultimately right) and Paul is now replacing the slate with marble. So here's the thing, instead of complaining after a few changes by us midstream, Paul listened to the us and gave his own advice (which is invaluable) and happily gives you the homeowner what you want. What more can you ask for in a contractor? Maybe PRICE. And Paul delivers on that aspect as well, his rate was very very fair. We interviewed many contractors and used a lot of different vendors for the full house. But if I could do it all over again, both my wife and I are in agreement, we would have had Paul in charge of the whole remodel. He makes your life easier, plain and simple. He also shows up when he says he's going to show up and he's very diligent in staying on schedule as well as keeping his vendors on schedule. After remodeling our home , we had some finishing work that needed to be done. I wish we would have known about PLB sooner so they could have done all of our work! . We normally would not buy a home that requires a lot of remodeling, but after six months of searching for a property to fit our needs we found one that matched perfectly...in design and location...however we almost passed because it required a major updating of the interior and exterior and we didn't want the hassle of working with designers and contractors. Our realtor recommended we contact PLB Construction, whose slogan just happened to be "Your One-Stop Contractor". We met with Paul Barry and discovered that the slogan is accurate. Paul IS a one-stop general contractor with an incredible list of subcontractors. It didn't matter if the job required interior or exterior work. He took care of the details, organized everything and gave us a price within our budget. He did the kitchen, the bathrooms, window treatments, interior painting, exterior lighting, drip irrigation system, and concrete staining and sealing of our driveway and patio. The process took three months and he worked around our schedule and supervised all of the work. We were even able to travel during this time, leaving everything in his capable hands. When it comes to job satisfaction he will not accept a finished project from subcontractors that is less than perfect...it has to meet his standards and they are high. After having a leak in my upstairs bathroom, I interviewed contractors and found Paul L. Barry.... and I am SO GLAD I DID! He stood up to my insurance company, insisting I get everything replaced.
