Do not order products from them. I'm not one to leave reviews but felt it necessary. I ordered lotion p50 from them to give as a Christmas gift and when I received a delivery notification but no package, I emailed them to see if they could look into it for me, to which they essentially said "too bad, it was delivered." This happened to me once, years ago, when a Mara Hoffman package was stolen from my doorstep (I have it on video) and they instantly mailed me a new dress that was three times the price of lotion p50. Needless to say, I haven't re-ordered my product nor will I order from them again. As someone who works in the PR industry, customer service goes a long way in my book. read more

With Lisette, you'll get your hair cut right. She'll never over trim your hair. She understands my hair so well, and always gives me the most amazing hair-do for special events. And I don't know if I can ever find someone who can puts up so much with me from having bleached hair, then back to dark, then back to light again, long hair to short, then with extensions... I like to live in the moment and my mind is forever changing, I woke up and decided I wanted a different hair color. Lisette was not in that day, so I had a chance to get my hair colored by Alexandra. Deft not a disappointment! I consulted with her to have the best ash color for my field of work. Terrible customer service. They make a mistake, don't correct it, and blame you. They also don't apologize and admit that they made a mistake. Everything is fine here when things go accordingly, but when they don't, you're shit outta luck. I bought a BR product, but then was notified that it was out of stock. So I requested to change it instead. PL said that's ok. A few weeks later, they send the original product instead. I reminded them about the change request that they approved. They said ok, but I have to ship it back to them and I have to pay for shipping. Excuse me? I have to pay for the mistake you made? PL never apologized or admitted that they did wrong. I'm so mad at myself I've never been to the Paul labrecque spa while living on the upper east side! I've been using the p50 1970 after always getting it from another store further down in the city- even though PL was basically right around the corner from me! UGH, so mad at myself!!! This review is for Linda! :) I found her on a website asking for hair models, and text messaged her to ask her if she still had availability. She responded right away and was very friendly and informative, which gave a great first impression. When I arrived, I was impressed by how beautiful this salon is -- I just moved here from Chicago in February, and I haven't been very good with getting my hair cut frequently enough, and my whole life I've gotten my hair cut by my mom's friends in their in-home salons. So this gorgeous Manhattan building really grabbed my attention. First impression of building itself: A+. The woman behind the reception desk upstairs was so welcoming and casually started a conversation with me about the art they had on the walls, how it was all talented students and up-and-coming artists who were seriously talented. I felt like she wanted to make me comforted and informed, and I was really grateful for that. Then a cheery woman with red lipstick walked in and I assumed it was Linda -- and it was. She was so nice and gave me a hug, sat me down in the chair and gave me lots of options and asked for my opinion about what I was looking for in a haircut, and even gave me advice on things I should do to fix the parts about my least favorite parts about my hair, like my hair dryness, etc. She was VERY personable, did an incredible job cutting AND styling. I really thought because I have dyed my hair with cheap products lately that my hair was doomed to look crappy for a long time, but I walked out of there completely satisfied. Linda is a hair angel. Went for a facial today and requested the classic European facial, which is supposed to include deep cleansing, extraction, and use of p50 products, for $160 according to the site. Valentina told me the classic did not include these and upsold me on a facial that cost $190 ( she had said "just a couple dollars more, maybe $10."). As far as I can tell, this was basically the classic European facial I had originally asked for, just $30 more expensive. I bought a couple hundred dollars worth of products and upon returning home, I found I had been sold a damaged and leaking bottle. I'm attaching pictures of the bottle and the leak. Came in for a quick manicure before a wedding I'm in tomorrow. The staff was beyond lovely and the facilities are beautiful and spotless. My manicurist, Heather, was a joy and chatted with me until the massage part where I blissfully glazed over. My service was exactly 45 minutes as told to me when I booked the service that same morning (thank you for fitting me in last minute!). My nails look beautiful and I will definitely return in the future if I'm in this part of the city. I started going in to get my haircuts at Paul Labrecque in 2018 and loved them. I was a devoted customer for a year and refused to let anyone else touch my hair. Looking back, I think I was just mesmerized by the brand name, because I was just getting simple trims that were hard to mess up. A couple months ago, though, I decided I really wanted "french girl fringe" bangs -- the subtle and wispy kind that can blend in easily with the rest of your hair when you want them to. I express this to my stylist and show him a couple photos of Jeanne Damas, whose hair I was trying to emulate. I asked if he thought it would work for my face and without much thought he was like "yeah totally, it will be so chic" and rushed me over to get shampooed. An hour later he turns my chair around and I, no joke, look like edna mode from the incredibles. He had basically taken a HUGE chunk of my hair at the front and just chopped it straight across. It was the total opposite of subtle, easily wearable, and delicate, the things that I had distinctly asked for. I had friends that laughed so hard they cried when I facetimed them after I got out of the salon -- thats how ridiculous I looked. It was also the day before I started a new job, so I was in full on hysterics. I tend to be overly polite/non confrontational so I didn't want to complain in the salon but I think all the employees could tell I was close to tears and no one apologized for the horrible job that had been done. I mentioned something to my stylist about how it wasn't really what I asked for and he defended himself by saying I didn't know what I needed and that I would look good in 80's sunglasses. I did tons of research in hopes of finding a place that could help do damage control and found blackstones, a lovely salon downtown with a smaller price tag. My hairdresser there was wonderful and listened to me very intently. He was horrified at the state of my hair, he even asked me if I had tried to do it myself. When I told him I had gotten it done at Paul Labrecque he was almost in shock that another trained hair dresser had done this -- let alone that I had been charged upwards of 150 dollars for it. He told me before he cuts bangs for a client he always spends at least 10 minutes talking to them about their face shape, hair texture, possible upkeep, and assessing if their example pictures are realistic. I got none of this at PL. The stylist at blackstones helped transform my hairstyle into something semi presentable, but I still looked a lot worse than I would have had I gone to him in the first place instead of Paul Labrecque. Don't be mesmerized by the glitz and glamour of this salon, you're paying for name, not quality. I have no idea how they get off not following through on practices that should be standard for a haircut over 100 dollars. read more

I have hormonal acne that is controlled with regular BR facials and BR products. I decided to try Paul Labrecque because they have a long history of using BR. I came in with 95% clear skin and left looking like the before picture of a proactive commercial. She used a needle to poke and prod and irritate my skin so badly that I will most likely have scarring for the next few months. This review is for the very talented Marcos Abrego. He is an expert color and cut artist! I had my first cut and color with Marcos back in 2000 and followed him over the years....even to Miami. I recently reconnected with him during a trip to NYC. Although the only time, I could see him was on his day off he made it happen. Hands down the best color and cut ever....every.single.time. He made me the ginger I always wanted to be. It's been 2 weeks since I have been back in LA and my color is vibrant and my cut is super manageable and flawless!! I will be back in May for a touch-up. I hated my facial here. I am a huge fan of the Biologique Recherche line and I've ordered some products from Paul Labreque's online store. They send a $50 voucher for a spa service with each order. I decided to book a same day facial at Paul Labrecque, even though I had an upcoming facial at Rescue Spa the following week. I suffer from chronic fatigue and wanted a relaxing experience. I liked that Paul Labrecque offers BR facials (and really, the $50 voucher was a nice incentive). My esthetician greeted me and brought me into the treatment room and... everything just went downhill immediately. - unprovoked, she told me how tired she was and what a long day she had, and she sort of laughed and wondered out loud why the front desk had booked her such a late appointment. - I am still standing in all my winter layers (down coat, sweater, scarf, the works), and we started talking about my skincare regimen. I told her that I had been using the BR line diligently and getting monthly facials at Rescue Spa. She immediately rolls her eyes, and says that Rescue doesn't do facials correctly, they don't know how to customize their facials, and that they're like a factory. I work in the service industry and I detest this type of behavior. It's unprofessional and just reflects poorly on you. The room is very heated and I am sweating balls at this point. I don't know how to react except nod and smile politely. She is still in her rant against Rescue and she seems like she is in no rush to start the facial, so I have to ask her if she can leave so that I can change into a robe. I am SO tired I feel dizzy. I just want to lie down and start already. - We start the facial. She realizes she doesn't have enough of the mask that she needs. Sighs and mutters out loud that she doesn't want to have to get up and out of the room to get some more. Begrudgingly gets up and leaves. I'm annoyed that I am not having the relaxing facial that I was looking forward to. - the electric microcurrent machine is not working properly. It keeps on turning on and off. Not her fault, I understand. But she spent almost 10 min sighing and complaining about the machine... I was just laying there. She kind of gets it to work on half of my face, but it keeps turning off. I finally ask if we should get a different machine, or if we should use a different treatment room. She says no, she knows what she's doing, and proceeds to run it over the other half of my face while it IS NOT EVEN WORKING. Says that she knows that it is working even though the light is not turning on. Excuse me, I know what micro currents feel like, I have had this machine used on me before plenty of times at Rescue, and it was definitely not working on half my face. Annoyed with the way she handled it. I understand machines break down but please don't think I'm stupid. - I have hormonal cystic acne on my chin that no amount of facials will improve. You do not extract cystic acne. Ever. It comes and goes with my period, and there was a little bump deep in my chin. Every esthetician that I've had will look at cysts like that and leave it alone. She proceeded to squeeze the F*CK out of it, which hurt like crazy. It was THROBBING throughout the rest of the facial, and I could feel it swelling more and more. I told her that the spot felt "angry" and she looked at it and agreed. She told me to go home and put Neosporin on it. By the time I got home, it had doubled in size. Before it was a slightly pink bump, now it is full out angry red, and the size of a quarter. - she extracted milia from the side of my face. I have been getting professional extractions for my entire adult life and this was the most poorly done extraction I have ever experienced, the scar that she left from her fingernails digging into my skin is HUGE. - she finishes the facial, hands me a mirror, and I guess she is waiting for me to fall over myself with excitement. I nod and say OK, thanks. She is not happy with my non-reaction, and then scoffs and says "well I don't work miracles." Verbatim. Reiterates again how tired she is and how glad she is that she's done. Ok. Thanks. Bye. This whole experience was just plain shitty. I wanted a relaxing experience. Her incessant complaining was annoying but the fact that she tried to extract a cyst, made it 10x worse, AND left a huge mark from a milia extraction pisses me off to no end. I have no idea why I tipped her 20% on the original service fee. I must have been tired and delusional. Dizzy. Wanted to get TF out of there. Thank god I got $50 off. I had to go to my dermatologist today to inject the spot on my chin that she tried to squeeze. My dermatologist immediately confirmed that she never should have touched the spot, and also said that the scar that she left behind from extracting my milia was poorly done. I had been so excited to have another spa to go to for BR facials. What an absolute waste of time and money. read more

Highly recommend Paul Labercque Salon & Spa. After moving to NJ I had a dry scalp and none of the salons in my area assisted in fixing the issue. One salon was very rude especially since it is due to the water pressure and air in New Jersey. I never had this problem in Philadelphia and always went to high end hair salons. I found that Paul Labrecque's offers a Mint Menthol Scalp Detox and made and appointment right away (It was the only salon I found that offers this service). Once in the salon I was immediately seated with Harry who I would also recommend. He's very friendly and customer focused. Paul Labrecque delivered great services and fixed my dry scalp. My last visit and facial here would have been five stars (with Valentina), but I just returned from a customer service nightmare that I feel compelled to share. I get monthly facials, normally from Mario Badescu or at Halycon Days Spa. Every so often I need to fill up on my Biologique Recherché P50 and night creme so I make an appointment at this uptown salon so I can hit two birds with one stone.They use the BR skincare products so I pay about triple what a Mario facial will cost, but it is normally worth it. I say this to emphasize that I am used to extractions and know very well how my skin reacts to facials. Yesterday after my facial with Zoe (which she quoted as 190 and then I was charged 200, but I didn't say anything) she recommended a BR serum to help with my blemishes. I was happy to buy, but during use that night I realized they had given me the .3 oz bottle instead of the 1oz. Difference? They charged me 90 dollars instead of 38. I decided I would call the next day to get the mixup corrected. The next morning I woke up with the darkest, largest scarring I had ever witnessed in the middle of my nose where a small mole normally is. Zoe had done a deep extraction and had torn skin and left an unsightly mark the size of a pea on my nose. Good estheticians know when to stop when skin appears sensitive and she clearly did not. It burned and I was scared of what dark spots would remain after it healed. I went to the salon to ask for a refund for the amount I was overcharged for an item I essentially did not buy. I also asked for some guidance on how to heal my scab. The front desk cashier called the manager, Noemi. They acknowledged they charged me for the wrong item but would only return credit to my account. I said that wasn't acceptable because there was no fault on my end and it wasn't a refund, just a correction to their mistake. She proceeded to give me some sharp words about how she would have given me a refund on the item if I hadn't opened it....so it was my fault I wasn't getting the refund. She told me it was against policy to give refunds on credit cards and I would have to use the credit towards another facial or product. I told her that I was unsure when/if I would be back after what happened to my nose. She pointed at her nose and said "We're not talking about this. People breakout after facials. I'm not going against store policy to fix that." At this point I began to tear up because I realized that I put my skin in the hands of a salon that doesn't value its clients. Another esthetician came out and was clearly disturbed by what she saw on my nose and offered a solution involving vitamin e and aquaphor and said whoever gave me a facial went too deep. Noemi still wasn't budging and I told her from a customer service perspective I expected her to "return" the item I didn't buy and allow me to buy back the smaller bottle I meant to buy, used (by me). After she saw the esthetician comfort me she called another manager and then proceeded to do the exchange exactly as I had suggested. Her tone changed, she got me a handful of tissues, and suggested vitamin e for my scab. As we were wrapping up she said she doesn't do facials close to her "cycle" because she breaks out and bad things happen. I guess she thought my reaction was too emotional and that was her version of sympathy. I will have to buy my future BR products online and direct my other friends to do so since the customer service I prefer with the purchases is clearly lacking from this salon. I've made the rounds as a hair model to various salons in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Usually, everyone walks away happy. The junior stylist gets a free head of hair to practice on, I get a huge discount on a haircut or color. This was not a happy experience. I showed up on-time for a 6PM appointment. It was a FULL HOUR before my stylist had approval from Paul and could start on my hair. Upon our first consultation she was so friendly, listened to what I had to say and was flexible to schedule my hair & makeup trial the following week when my mom was in town from Florida. The trial went so smoothly I knew I wanted Marlena to be my hair and makeup artist for my wedding! She made me feel comfortable and was open to any changes or specific requests. Marlena worked efficiently and also made conversation throughout the process, checking in to make sure I was 100% happy with everything. My wedding day finally arrived and she even opened the Salon early to accommodate the timing for my day. We were able to bring in snacks and mimosas to the gorgeous salon (so much natural light and trees! A rare find for a salon in NYC) to start the wedding day celebrations early. She cut my hair.... and my ear Lesson learned: don't get your hair cut by a girl who has a crush on you. This place is sick though: lattes, tea, pastries, salads?!? Maybe I'm too used to the Astor barbers or my funky Chinatown joint but Labrecque just seemed ridiculously indulgent and opulent in comparison. Fun experience, even with the extra snip and the unimaginative cut (largely my fault, lack of instruction). Give it a try if you want to be pampered while getting a trim. read more

Wow! I was shocked to see all of the bad reviews on here! But then I remembered that rich people probably don't write reviews on Yelp unless they're pissed. And considering you have to be pretty rich to go to this salon and considering this salon is AWESOME, the lack of reviews make sense. So, with that in mind, here's my experience... I screwed up my hair. Big time. I have been dyeing my own hair red for 10 years now and thought I'd try a new box. Big mistake. The wrong color was in the box and it turned my hair from a vibrant auburn to a dark, dark, dull cherry color. Horrible. After crying for a good two hours, I of course shared my grief with facebook. Everyone had their two cents as to what I should do (wash my hair with baking soda to strip the color, put Dawn in my hair, etc), but there was one person who saved the day. A family friend of mine who lives in New York and is, well, let's just say well off and is also one of the most generous people on the planet contacted me after hearing about my woes and brought me in to her salon, Paul Labrecque! I will now refer to this friend as my hair angel. We met with hair angel's colorist, Simone, and I must admit I was terrified. I'd heard horror stories about corrective color treatments. When I sat in her chair, she commented that it wasn't that bad, which was true thanks to all the baking soda and Dawn I had put in my hair over the past 48 hours. The dark color had faded considerably. The only problem now was that it was ugly. Ugly and still too dark and the home remedies had made my split ends even raggedier. Simone suggested doing a lot of red/copper highlights, saying that this was far less damaging than corrective color and would give a nice multi-dimentional look as a result. She also wanted to tone my roots as they were kind of purple. My hair angel said to go for it! So, Simone got to work. She first gave me a cut to get rid of my dead ends and give my hair its personality back. Then she went to work on the highlights. I got a full head of highlights and it took about 20-30 minutes for her to do my whole head! I was surprised as to how quickly she worked. She was also very friendly and answered all of my nagging questions about what she was going to do to my head (Note: Dyeing my own hair for 10 years = trust issues). While I was under the heat lamp, she continually checked on my hair's progress to make sure it was perfect. When the highlights were almost ready, she asked one of her peers to put the toner on my roots as she had another client that moment. Finally I got all washed off!! Her assistant gave me a blow dry and it turned out beautiful (only complaint -- her assistant was maybe new or something. She kept getting the brush all tangled in my hair and had acted a bit confused for the entire treatment, including starting to wash out my hair twice before it was ready. Simone had to scold her a bit.) Anyway, back to the hair! IT IS BEAUTIFUL. I can not believe that she was able to make the color so vibrant and natural looking! This is the best my hair has EVER looked. You have no idea. It's amazing. As she was saying goodbye, she stopped my tears of joy and looked at my roots. "Still a little purple," she said, "Come back next week and I'll run the toner through them again. Sorry, but I'm a perfectionist." Now, THAT is good customer service! Everyone should go and see Simone! No, really, suck it up, work an extra shift for the cash, and go. Now. You won't regret it. Especially you redheads out there. THANK YOU, SIMONE! read more
