I was looking for a salon for my baby Cousin to get her a cut and color and OMG I was impressed!!! First off they did an amazing job on the color! The professor Anna was AMAZING she was going step by step with the student Diamond on what to do she modeled one part diamond would take over the rest. The teacher and student where so welcoming and treated us like family. This has been just The most incredible experience I've ever had in a salon. The color exceded my expectations. The teacher was the best and they go out of there way to explain it all step by step how Diamond would accomplish the look we requested. I will deff recommend this school where ever we go. I kind of liked it so much I will maybe go back. I love my hairdresser Megan 5789 is her id number she is amazing I love her so much and she is the sweetest person ever but I don't know if I really want to go back because I gave them a picture of what I wanted and they didn't do exactly that they made my hair black and it looks absolutely awful. I hate it but. She was truly amazing and i loved telling her thing and I'll put a picture of the photo that I wanted and of my hair now because it looks completely different so if I go back, it's probably gonna to be to get it changed back to what I actually wanted no this is my first time being here and when I first went in, it was really good. I absolutely loved it. The people were nice to me and everything. The only thing I did not like is that they did not give me what I wanted with the hair color because when I first walked in, I wanted to do a relaxer on my hair and they just immediately assumed that my hair was bleached and I've never put bleach in my hair none of it and they thought that that was the way I got my hair to the color it was before and I was like no, I just used irony the straight red dye on my hair and it turned out this color. I didn't put no bleach on it or anything and then after that, we weren't able to do the perm so I was like OK that's fine. I'm still happy. I'm still here then they said OK let's do a hair color instead. We can do a treatment hair color cut straighten blow dry all of that and I was like OK sure yeah I showed her the info picture that I wanted when I did. They said OK we can do that 100% we can do that so they do like a highlight and low fade. I was like OK go ahead and then she told me while she was putting the dye in my hair that it was going to be like a brown like my hair color brown and I was like my hair is black like my scalp hair is black and she said no it's kind of like a brown so like the dye will be a brown and I was like OK so I thought it was gonna be a light brown then after that, we wash my hair we didn't have time to blow dry my hair or straighten it at all. She put the treatment in my hair one for five minutes one for 15 then after that, I looked at my hair and I did not like it, but we also sat in the salon for three hours doing my hair until like 10 so I didn't also wanna say anything cause I can't do anything about it after anyway so I was like yeah I like it cause it was like a little bit what I wanted, but it wasn't what I want exactly they only did the highlights correctly, but I was still kind of upset cause I didn't like it that much and it was just OK like I tolerated it, but I don't really like it that much but besides that I love the service. I had high hopes for this place because I assumed only higher-level students would be cutting and styling hair... I was wrong. I made an appointment for a cut and color at 5:15pm, and was told after being interviewed on details that there would only be time for one, and was recommended color. Within the first hour, I spent around 40 minutes sitting in the chair without any assistance, but had told my hairstylist that I had nowhere to be so they could take their time. When they (finally) came back, i was told a lightener was needed. When it was being applied, I was very clear with my hairstylist and the student who came over to help that I wanted only the last 6 inches or so of my hair dyed, and was reassured by the teacher there that all blonde would be covered. The application of the lightener, with two people, took over an hour. I could not see what was happening, but after it had set (~20 minutes) and they came back (~15 minutes later) and was washed out, I saw that the blonde extended up my entire head, and now looks like badly-done highlights. For the washing, I was not asked about products at all, and I believe they used a product I was allergic to (I'm not sure, they didn't tell me what they used after either) because even a day later my scalp is itchy and dry. Post-washing, it took two students 5-10 minutes just to brush my hair, and were pulling enough that I offered to do it myself. I then reminded (for probably the 4th time) my hairstylist that I wanted my bangs touched up (not pictured), so the assistant student started on my bangs while my hairstylist blow dried. I would include a picture, but I honestly can't make myself look at how they turned out. I stated that I wanted them to cascade downward, with the highest parts at the corner of my eye and the lowest just below my ear. They are now uniformly cut, straight across, at my cheekbones. It looks blocky, and is too short to fix easily. As the assistant finished my bangs, my hairdresser started on the dye. At this point, it was 9pm, and somehow the same process that took over an hour earlier was now 20-30 minutes. A bit of lightener was applied to my bangs to sit, and after the dye was applied to my hair I was left alone for about 10 minutes past when it needed to be removed. When my hairdresser returned, they wiped off the lightener with a towel without washing or rewetting my hair, and applied color. It was 9:30 at this point, and I did not see my hairdresser again. Just before the school closed, a teacher told me she would take care of me around 10, to give the dye time to sit. At 10:15, after the school had closed, she came back and washed me out (again not asking about or informing me of what products she was using) and as it was nearing 10:30, did not blow dry my hair or style it. I was also informed, only then, that I would need to come back in 3 weeks to get the dye refreshed because it was not permanent, which I had requested. Overall, 2 stars because the students and teachers were professional and nice, and the store is kept very clean. Would not recommend. The students at Paul Mitchell The School Orlando are the highlight of this establishment. They are passionate, hardworking, and genuinely eager to learn and improve their skills. It's clear they are doing their best under challenging circumstances and unfortunately, much of that challenge seems to come from the "learning leaders" . As a client I was spoken to rudely by Tmeda, I believe her name was, as well as witnessed her speaking down to students. And another even cut my hair without asking me first, no explanation, just started cutting. I understand that this is a school and if correction was needed ,that is her job , but she had not interacted with me the entire cut and then took the students scissors and started cutting layers shorter than I had discussed with my stylist. Completely unprofessional. The atmosphere is tense and negative, and it's clear the leadership creates a toxic environment not only for clients but for the students trying to learn as well as each other. This place seriously needs to reevaluate how its staff treats people. The Paul Mitchell name deserves better and so do the students. As leaders you are supposed to be setting an example for your students. Uplifting and inspiring them not putting them down. This is my second visit, second stylists and I'm highly impressed. My hairdresser retired, closed the business and recommended I try Paul Mitchell. So happy with birth, they are consulting their advisor to either make sure or see if they are right breweries doing anything. Plan oin being awhile and bring enacks. You'll thank me. I sent an email to the school to voice my concern over a month ago to give them a chance to reply but have not heard back. I had took my daughter here on 09/04/24 and while customer service was okay I noticed that the lady doing my daughters hair Exenid i believe her name was. She left my daughters hair very unevenly it was cut too short in the front I can't even put my daughters hair in a ponytail and ever worse yet my daughter already has very thin hair and she had some pretty bad shedding after 3 days after the cut. I wasn't going to leave a review, because I know this is a school and not a salon, but the more I look at my hair the more unhappy I am- I hate seeing myself in a mirror! I've come to this location and another Paul Mitchell a handful of times, but after my latest experience I don't think I'll be back. I fully understand this is not the typical customer/business, and that I am paying a heavily discounted rate, but I still feel as though there should be a good customer experience. First, I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment but was not brought back until about 10 minutes past my appointment time. I showed the student several pictures of what I wanted for my haircut, and she seemed to understand exactly what I wanted. The leader came over for about 10 seconds and said something along the lines of "I've cleared her to do this cut," didn't ask me anything or even look at my hair, and then walked away. He did not come back for the entire service, even though he was making rotations and stopped and chatted with all the nearby students and customers the entire time. While the student and I were doing the initial consultation, she also asked me how long I had to be here. I said that I'm flexible but I have a newborn at home, so as little as possible would be great. She said "so 2.5 or 3 hours would be ok?" I said if we could do 2.5, that would be great. I was there for 3.5 hours. The chair was also incredibly uncomfortable, and I kept adjusting myself the whole session because my lower back was hurting. All of this could have been fine, I signed something at the beginning of the service that said I understood the service could take several hours, but the haircut was not at all what I wanted. She explicitly asked me what length I wanted for the shortest layer, and the cut she did for the shortest layer was about 4 inches shorter than what we agreed on, and she gave me framing pieces around the sides of my face that I absolutely hate and did not ask for. I didn't realize she had done it till after she had already cut that layer, so there was no way to fix it. The leader came over and asked me how I liked it, and I said the length was a lot shorter than what I asked for, and the leader and student both nodded and then said nothing. I had a great stylist named Lexi and she was super nice and fun. Unfortunately, I went in for what the internet calls a "bixie" (bob/pixie) but between the stylist, learning leaders, and their reference picture versus mine, the bob is no where to be found and I have an outgrown looking pixie. Honestly though, as soon as I was unhappy with the direction of my haircut, the learning leader and stylist were able to pivot and adapt to my concerns. At any other salon I would have paid too much for a risky haircut, and I would have been too nervous to have spoken so frankly to who was cutting my hair. I was not sure about going to a hair school but I was pleasantly surprised. Since I have been many times. I enjoy the interaction with the students and I am treated well. I enjoy learning about the various products for my hair since it is thick and naturally curly. Only thing for you to know is that you may be there for one to two hours depending on your service so plan for that. Omg what a fun experience!!!! From the second I walked in a was in awe! The environment was filled with hairdressers executing their best styles. Smiles and laughter were all around! I got my hair done by Marjorie and she nailed it!!! I got a balayage in the color dusty pink. The teachers were going around the whole time and making sure every style reached its full potential! The price was amazing! I had got the same color done at a salon before and paid $300. When they told me my total was only $100 my first thought was: what else can I buy? Lol I ended up leaving with shampoo and conditioner as well and still had money left over. Even after tipping my stylist I still left with $100 in savings!!! Definitely got my money's worth! I've been getting my haircut here for the past 3 years and have always been satisfied with how it looks. It's a great deal. The process takes much longer here than a typical hair salon, but they're students so its understandable. My favorite part is always the shampooing; they really take their time and it's super relaxing. Truthfully and honestly, when going into this school I had extremely high hopes. This school is nothing like they explain. It's almost as if the students are taken as a joke, and only there for a check. Specifically during covid times there were far too many students in a classroom, and barely guide lines. After all, we didn't know when people had covid and there wasn't much we could argue with admin about. Overall, being extremely pregnant and working doubles at the school and at work, I was told that "you need to be standing and taking this serious" and "if you weren't pregnant right now you wouldn't be treated the way you are" by a teacher there. Things aren't taken serious almost at all, even when it comes to guests. So many expectations are put out there but many don't leave with nearly what they asked. Many students slide with all the things they swear up and down they will get "expelled" for. But it hasn't happened since I attended. Overall, it isn't worth the money they put out there and the behavior the staff holds is inexcusable. There of course are teachers there that put 110% in and deserve better than what they ended up with, and wish the students were actually "interviewed" like they should be. Most of them don't actually care about the guest and are extremely hard to talk to and cocky. Just be careful picking the school you attend and keep in mind not everything is promised. Though this wasn't the worst school I visited, it isn't worth nearly as much as the tuition and isn't what they promise or explain. read more

NOT the original color I came in with and they still made me pay extra for some odd reason. Every time I go to this school, I am relaxed, and enjoy the time I'm there. Usually it takes about 2 hours to wash/cut/style my hair. I have gotten many different cuts and styles from here and the chances of me getting exactly what I want isn't always the greatest experience. However, I don't leave totally disappointed, either. Except for 2 occasions. Which says a lot because I've been going here since 2010...Moral of the story: don't expect the best, but don't expect the worst, either. Do NOT get your hair dyed here. I did it once and it took a year for my natural hair color to grow back, and my hair was purple. I asked for a low-light and my entire head was covered with purple dye. I was so upset. I know it's a school, and I do sign a contract stating that I know this, so I don't say anything about it. I just take it and go. Love the wash-house experience. It's a must try. read more

Before you read any further into this review please remember that Paul Mitchell is a training school, and while they have several stages of training, it's still a SCHOOL. That being said, I feel completely comfortable sharing that I would prefer to go to one of the cheap hair chains in the mall. I've been to two Paul Mitchell schools; one in Casselberry and one out in southern California. Both times I've been, it took so long to do my hair I thought it would go gray by the time they finished. In addition, the styles I asked for, and brought pictures of, looked NOTHING like what I ended up with. That happens all the time, but I have pretty decent hair if I do say so myself, and in one instance it looked like Edward Scissorhands was my hair stylist. Again, please note, this is a school and you receive a discounted rate for the services, but be willing to wear a hat for a few months if you do book an appointment. read more

The instructors seemed very lax, the students lacked professionalism (i.e. the stylist kept referring to me as "yeeeeah girlfriend" while snapping her fingers and rolling her neck) and I walked out looking EXACTLY the way I did when I came in. The insult to injury, was after doing a poor job on my hair, the student requested a tip! This is a teaching school but still. I've been to Paul Mitchell a lot of times in Atl and I've never had a problem. My sister and I went to the Orlando Paul Mitchell in early June to get my hair done for my cousin's wedding in Tampa. I asked for a straight sleek style and my sister's juss asked them to wash and dry her hair. They made my hair look like a lion's mane and all the had to do with my sister's is wash it and then braid the front so that it would curl. At one point they had 4 different ppl doing my sister's hair. 2 instructors and 2 students and none of them knew what they were doing. My sister and I ended up doing our own hair and it looked 10 times better. This is a school, but if you're looking for your hair to be done nice, either do it yourself or go somewhere else. I'm not saying all Paul Mitchell's are bad but this one is bad. Don't go here. This place shouldn't even have a license to do hair. I've had multiple experiences with this school, mostly because I assumed that another student would do better. I've had multiple services done here. All have came back terrible. I've gotten my hair dyed and the color I requested was totally different (I've asked for lavender twice, and got a weird yucky blue). I like the color and haircut I received. I get that this is a school and you are going to be there longer than a normal salon. However, 5 and 1/2 hours is ridiculous. The student I got this time kept walking off for 30 minutes at a time, (while half of my head had foils in it.) She ended up having to redo the first half, because she took too long to finish the entire head. I got charged for the extra hair dye because of her mistake. I also didn't like that at the beginning of the appt, the learning leader went over pricing and said it would be $77, but she raised the price without telling me and I ended up paying $85. I think I am going to start paying more to go to a regular salon where the prices are upfront and I won't have to spend an eternity there. read more

I asked for a trim. A simple, trim. The lady cutting my hair did that fine, but then I asked them to TRIM my ALREADY THERE face framing hairs that are at the very front of my head. Easy enough, all they have to do is slide the scissors down vertically at a very acute angle. I've seen it done NUMEROUS times, I even explained how to do it myself, and I provided NUMEROUS photos. Did they do that? No. I am humiliated. My hair looks disgusting. I have been going here for YEARS and never has my hair looked this bad. This salon used to be so amazing but for my past couple of sessions it has gone absolutely downhill. The manager who cut my hair decided to face Frame, and basically gave me overgrown bangs. I'm 16. Do I look like an 80's mom to you? I don't even know what to do at this point deeming that the Fourth of July is coming up, and I have a couple parties coming up. Oh and not to mention, my "stylist" put mousse at the ROOTS of my hair, DIDN'T brush it out, and gave me a deep middle part. She was also too busy talking to finish the blow dry, so my hair wasn't even straight. It was weirdly air dried and I had to leave in a ponytail. I am so dissapointed and shocked that this has happened to me. I know the managers by name at this place and I get treated like this? The learning leader was also incredibly rude and she was acting like I didn't know what I was talking about. I gave them PICTURES. Thirteen of them! This is the last straw. I am never coming back here again. I hope you guys are proud of your awful services. And don't even bother with that "we're students" talk. Financial aid is impossible to work with after they have your money/signature. If you miss days, it is almost impossible to catch up -on purpose. Over 2 1/2 hourss for a barber cut, simple low fade. I support Paul Mitchell school and their concept of utilizing hands on teaching for their students. But if you have a barber on the floor with a chair close to the front desk (meaning he's almost done) then there should be no way in hell him rolling INCOMPLETE fades in 120+ MINUTES, be acceptable. Literally had to go home to blend and edge my hair minutes after paying for a cut. I can no longer recommend this establishment. I was trying to be supportive of the student as I too was a student in med school, but I only came in for a blow dry and they gave me a barber student who didn't even know how to wash my hair. He was nervous which I was trying to be patient even though I had a meeting an hour and half later. But I had to end up leaving and my hair looked like crap and my hair wasn't even dry and frizzy. When I arrived at Paul Mitchell the parking lot and waiting area were both crazily packed. I surprisingly didn't have to wait a long time to be retrieved by my student stylist since I made an appointment in advance. Once the stylist took me to her chair, she attempted to have a consultation with me and sounding fairly unsure of herself, she managed to make me a tad bit nervous. I could hear my inner monologue asking if I should run screaming for the door, however I silently declined and stayed seated. After the consultation, we waited forever and a day for a teacher to approach and once she did we nailed down a color- no cut. At some point between being draped, colored, and rinsed, my stylist informed me that she really didn't want to be a hair stylist but an artist and that she was only doing this hair program to appease her parents. I looked at her blindly with crickets chirping...how was I supposed to respond to that? While waiting with color goop dripping down my ears, she asked if I would like a tour of the school and I accepted. She took me throughout the hallways and at some point we stopped in the vacant mani/ pedi room where she advised me to never have this particular service performed at Paul Mitchell (apparently they don't turn out so well)...again my response came with a blank gaze. I wondered what kind of "selling points" they were teaching at Paul Mitchell that this student thought it was okay to tell a client negative information in reference to their business. At the conclusion of our tour, we returned to her chair and the stylist disappeared while my hair processed. Everything was very loud, the students' conversations, their outfits (it was 80's day apparently) and lastly the club style music. When my stylist appeared again, we had to wait another year for the teacher to come over and give the go ahead at which I was taken over to a shampoo bowl. The student washed my hair out with icy cold water and when I asked if she could warm it up just a bit, she told me no that it was better for my hair to keep the water at a cold temperature. Personally, I don't know how she kept her hands in the sink. Anyway, the color results were absolutely not even close to what we had selected earlier but when it comes to hair I don't mind so much so I was okay with it. The teacher asked if I wanted to come in again to have it corrected but I declined because I didn't want to sit there another full day. When I went to pay for the bill, they would not let me add a tip onto my credit card so I had to come back again after getting some cash to give the student a tip. I'm not sure what that was about. The bottom line: It's a cheaper way to get your hair done but your results may vary. There's no telling what level of professionalism you'll receive unless someone refers you to a student stylist. I want to start this by saying that I've never had a bad hair experience here, which is more than I can say for other beauty schools in the area. The biggest draw back is the length of time you must spend in the chair to get a full service cut, color, and style. However, I only pay $5 for a haircut and $30 for my color, so I'll sit for a while. Remember, this is a school. Communicate, communicate, communicate with both your student stylist and his/her instructor. This is not the time to be bashful or an a-hole... Just be clear. read more

My wife has been a regular customer at this salon for the last four years. On Wednesday night she went in to get her hair colored to her normal white blond. Mistakes were made, and HER HAIR TURNED INTO A PURPLE/GRAY MESS. Obviously mistakes will happen at a school and that is completely understandable, but mistakes need to be fixed free of charge. My wife took Thursday off of work to get her hair fixed at the salon. They did a nice job fixing her hair, but they charged her again for the fix. My wife was basically detained in the store until she paid, and the manager on duty refused to leave a meeting to speak with her. Eventually my wife paid and left the store. Upon returning home she started calling to speak with a manager to get a refund. She spoke with several managers, and the further up the chain she went, the more incompetent the managers became. They were rude, vile, and idiotic. She simply asked one manager "if you were served an uncooked meal at a restaurant, and the meal had to be replaced, would you pay for both meals?". The managers had no valid response to any of her concerns. None had the fortitude to refund the money or make any decisions on their own. They are all impotent and worthless human beings. THIS IS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT WE HAVE EXPERIENCED. The girls in the salon do a decent job and work hard, but the management and even the learning leaders are inept. Spend a little more money and get your hair done someplace else. Spending 10 hours in a salon, paying twice for getting your hair done, missing work, and incompetent management is what this place is all about. read more
