I just wrote a not so good review for a donut spot in Boston so now I'm going to follow it up with DONUT NIRVANA!! I was in Buffalo, NY visiting a friend and he kept gushing about the donuts at this ma and pa spot in his old neighborhood. I had to try a few because who am I to say no to a donut?! I only got 2, a strawberry filled and a frosted one. I almost DIED and was super upset I only got 2. I could've eaten a dozen in one sitting. Perfect flavor, not too greasy and not too sweet. The bakery looks like it hasn't been remodeled since the 70's and I think it's intentional to add to the "donut shop" atmosphere but who cares when the donuts taste like they do! read more

Best donuts in Buffalo for sure. Make sure you are hungry, or able to eat a donut the size of your face. The staff is always super friendly, even when they are trying to walk you through your order of a dozen donuts in a way that allows them to Tetris them into the box. If you want to try a few flavors, go for the donut holes, although each one is the size of a plum. For the non sugar people, they also have breakfast sandwiches with eggs and meat on a bagel. I'm usually a savory type of person, but a sweet tooth hit me one afternoon and led me straight to Paula's. I've only been to this location and we were in and out rather quickly. I split a sugar jelly donut and an apple fritter with a couple of friends. The donut and the fritter are huge so there was plenty for everyone. I thought the jelly donut was standard but you NEED the apple fritter if you haven't tried one yet. I'll be back for exactly that the next time a sweet tooth comes along. read more

Oh my! The smell of this place puts me in a diabetic coma! The line was about 10 deep but moved quickly. We bought a peanut donut with butter cream filling, chocolate frosted peanut butter cream filling, and an amazing cannoli filled powder donut. All of them were heavy and filled beyond belief! I called ahead and ordered a Texas Donut and 2 dozen assorted for pickup the following morning at 630. I left my name and number. When I got there the store was empty and I was greeted right away. I told the lady I had a called in order and gave my name and order. She picked up a bag and then went in the back and I heard her ask for the Texas donut. She returned with another lady who told me the Texas donut wasn't ready and it would be at least 20 min because it wasn't even in the fryer yet but I could wait if I wanted. I couldn't wait as I had to get to work. I asked if there was another Texas donut available and she said no. I asked why it wasn't ready and she gave me an unsatisfactory answer about the first one being unusable. I did receive 20% off the 2 dozen donuts but I wasn't given an apology and I don't feel like the employee cared that my order wasn't ready at the agreed upon time. I feel like I should have gotten a call to tell me it wasn't ready since they had my name and number. This was a large order and clearly a celebratory event, and I had to show up without a cake! We tried Paula's a few years back at the Main Street location. We were hooked! Then they decided to open up a location in West Seneca. Man! It's so close! These are the biggest doughnuts. Super heavy and definitely filling. One is more than enough. They are being made right there in the back and it smells absolutely delicious when you walk in. There are lines so be ready to wait. This is the second Paula's Donuts location that I have been to since making the move to Buffalo and I knew just what to expect when coming. This is a Buffalo staple that I needed both of my parents to taste and experience while visiting and they now know where the best donuts in New York are to be found. Today I got a "Headlights" donuts which was basically a big fluffy donut with the frosting on top. A brand spanking new Paula's Donuts opened in the Southgate Plaza in beautiful West Seneca. This makes me so happy that I got up early this morning at 5:00 am to get donuts to take to work for my coworkers. The workers there are handling the customers like pros. I didn't have to wait long at all because I was there super early, but I heard the lines have been crazy later in the morning and all day long. Needless to say, my coworkers were very happy to see the donuts. I can't believe the large size of these donuts! A peanut stick is big enough to share with 3 people! So if you've been to one of the original locations of Paula's Donuts, you know what to expect: some of the best donuts anywhere. They heavy, dense, filled with diabetic-shock inducing delightfulness. 2 donuts and a coffee is a great deal. Eat one donut, save the other for later! One of the nice things about this location is that it's nice and large, with some nice booths and tables for sitting and consuming. My only complaint, which is really minor is that this location employs a lot more teenagers, and some of them are surly and noncompliant. I have never had a Paula's Donut until this am. Every person I know RAVES about these. I have been passing the new West Seneca location since their opening and have seen the parking lot mobbed. At 4.30am. I enjoy sweet gooey as much as the next person however I am not up to nor completely understand the wait. I'm guessing the hype has died down. Four people ahead of me at 5.30am. Cool. The donuts are good and tasty. Not enormous as I have been told. Maybe this location is different but I am just seeing standard sized donuts. The glaze and dough were very good. Not too much of the oddly manufactured sticky glaze that seems to have been made from Crisco or some random oil. I was very impressed with the yeasty dough. Perfect texture and taste. Bottom line, my impression. Good eats but maybe not so much for the hype that preceded it. May they flourish! read more

I try like hell to stay away from here . . . because (even for a non-donut lover) everything I've tried at Paula's was totally irresistible. No pastry for the faint of heart, Paula's donuts are hefty monsters that can be a challenge to finish in one sitting. My favorite is the key lime--stuffed with no less that 1/2 cup of tangy key-lime filling and topped with crispy toasted coconut. A close second place is the peanut stick, a moist and delicious raised donut covered in a not-overly-sweet glaze and rolled in crushed peanuts. My husband favors the chocolate and peanut-butter varieties (including a filled peanut-butter & jelly creation). While the dining space is nothing to write home about, it makes no difference. You can choose between 50 different types of Donuts to choose from, in Glazed (Orange, Cherry, Red Velvet, Pumpkin, Apple Crisp & Blueberry), Jelly (Black Forest & PB&J), Bavarian (Chocolate Frosted & Toasted Coconut), Angel Cream (Peanut Butter, Maple Angel & Coconut Cream), Other Filled (Key Lime & Lemon) and Unfilled (Cinnamon, S'Mores, Peanut Sticks and Crullers). I'm extremely glad they finally opened up shop in the Southtowns but at the same time my waistline is not as excited about this new business, but I don't generally care what my waist thinks anyway.
