We have worked with a wonderful team of 3 women from Paula's Organic for 4 years - across two homes (DC and VA) - and have always had a great experience. Paula is really easy to communicate and schedule with, and her team does a top-notch job, always leaving our house sparkling. The team has a true attention to detail -- moving furniture and vacuuming under rugs, cleaning baseboards and door frames and inside closets, etc. We also have the team do laundry and folding and change linens and they do an excellent job with that too. Paula's team is also completely trustworthy. We have lots of valuables in the home, so trustworthiness is important to us. They're great with dogs, and we also feel totally confident having them clean the home when we are out of town or not on premises. We highly recommend Paula and her team! read more

Paula's team was excellent pre-pandemic. Then it slipped. And then she started employing staff who were so not ok. Breaking stuff. Lying about. When you confront Paula with evidence she then lies and has no skills as a business manager to handle - starts blaming her staff and trying to make you confront them. So awkward and unprofessional. I unfortunately had the same bad experience with Paula as the other negative reviews on here - cleaning taking significantly more time than estimated, defensive and combative communications from Paula, furniture being moved and not put back, unreliable schedules, and half finished jobs. We hired Paula for a deep clean of our house. She came out to see the house and gave me a quote of 6-7 hours at $95/hour. My husband and I knew this would be very expensive, but made the decision to spend the money. When I came home from work, the cleaning team was leaving after 7 hours but approximately 30% of the house had not been cleaned (including half of the kitchen and one entire floor of the house). Furniture had also been moved and not moved back. When I asked Paula about what had happened and how to resolve this, she became very defensive and combative, telling me that if I wanted the rest of my house cleaned I would have to pay an additional hourly rate for them to come back and accused me of not wanting to pay her ladies for their work. I understand that estimates can change - but Paula's original estimate was off by 30% of the house, which significantly changed the price. Also, when it was clear that the cleaning team was not going to finish in the estimated time, Paula should have communicated that to me so that I could have made the decision about whether I wanted to pay the extra money, or just prioritize what would be cleaned in the remaining time. Paula should not be in the position of authorizing more of her client's time or money without speaking to them. As it stood, I was paying $700 and the kitchen and one entire floor of my house was still dirty! We finally agreed that a team of five people would come to my house for one hour the next day to finish the kitchen and the back porch. Paula's team showed up 90 minutes before the agreed upon time, let themselves into my house without my husband or I, and there were only 3 people instead of five. The team was still unable to finish cleaning the kitchen and other things that I had agreed on with Paula the night before, and Paula expected me to pay the full rate as if all five people had showed up as promised. This was overall an awful, upsetting, and very expensive experience. I would not recommend hiring Paula. read more

TL:DR - On the initial deep clean Paula authorized her team to spend 60% more time than the high end of her estimate without clearing the extra charge with me, and I hadn't been thrilled will the service in the first place. I started out very excited to work with Paula. She was professional, personable, responsive and seemed to have high standards and an eye for detail. I did a walk through of my house with her during which I showed her some specific areas and tasks that I'd like for the crew to address when they came and she too identified several areas that needed to be cleaned, including some spots on the walls that I hadn't even noticed. We scheduled a deep clean for while we were away from the house and other than giving her the key code, I didn't hear anything else from her the day of the clean. When we came home things generally seemed pretty clean, but as we started to go through the house there were some a lot of small things that were off. Little things, but annoying: A good butcher knife had been run through the dishwasher. A 40 pound dumbbell had been left sitting on top of the end of a long curtain so the curtain had been pulled out of one of the rings holding it to the rod 10 feet up, so not easy to slip back in. The wall she noticed wasn't cleaned. The cabinet I'd asked to be cleaned wasn't touched. Laundry I'd asked to be done was still in the hamper. A bunch of little things were in weird or less accessible places. Nothing awful, just weird. I know it can be hard to go into a new space for the first time, and with a toddler and work and life our house has a lot going on. So I told Paula about all of these things. She said she'd fix them, that this never happens and she is surprised. I said everyone has an off day, and so I started putting together a list of the things that were missed to send to her. Before I had a chance to get to that task, she sent me a text saying that she had ended up sending an extra crew to the house and they spent more time than she estimated, and the bill for the deep clean was going to be nearly $700, which was 60% more than the high end of her original estimate. I told her that I was a little surprised by that, especially given the many details that were missed. She got defensive and said the house had needed a lot of work. I didn't dispute that, but was quite bothered that she'd decided to send an extra crew and spend several more hours on the house without communicating that with me and getting approval. If I'd been happier with the work and she'd been honest and apologetic for the failure to communicate, it probably would not have been a big deal and I would have paid it. But she was defensive and insulting when confronted with a less than positive response. When I told her that given all of this, I was only willing to pay the high end of the estimate that she'd originally given me when she walked through my house she said I was nitpicking because I didn't want to pay. She became highly unprofessional very quickly, conflating my feedback on the quality of the work with my willingness to pay for additional services I had not agreed to. I was quite annoyed and frustrated in the end of the exchange. Going 60% over an estimate without any communication until well after the work is completed is a dishonest business practice. She didn't like it when I pointed that out, understandably, and told me to pay her "what I thought was right in my heart." I'm guessing that her employees are generally good at their work and that when Paula doesn't get any negative feedback things go pretty smoothly with her clients. But from the reviews I seen here, it looks like a pattern that she doesn't take it well when she isn't being praised. read more

I wish I had before and after photos because I have never felt like my home has ever been so clean using products that don't make me feel like I'm living in chemicals. The team that came to my apartment were amazing! I have been ill for a good part of this last year (not COVID-19, thank goodness) and my apartment was in dire need of a deep cleaning. The team came in and four hours later, my apartment was beautiful again! I'm grateful for the team's hard work, professionalism and thoroughness. For a moment, I thought I might have to reschedule, because I'd forgotten to tell them I have a cat. Fortunately, it all worked out for this morning. These women are dynamos! Unprofessional, erratic communication and inadequate cleaning service. First, I was told Paula would text me with an appointment time the next day. Two days later, I had to send a reminder and got a time. The cleaning ladies were at least 2.5 hours late (outside of the two-hour window I was told), so I had to leave a key for them to get in. Had to ask twice if they would clean the refrigerator, and was finally told yes. I have used cleaning services for years, and this usually includes the freezer. Mine is super small and not that crowded. When I got home, the freezer and small toaster oven had not been cleaned. Some of the surfaces inside the refrigerator had been cleaned while others hadn't. (See photo of dirty fridge shelf.) There were crumbs and food still on the kitchen island and counters. In the bathroom, there were black streaks on the shower curtain I do not recall being there before, and I cleaned those in addition to the kitchen surfaces and small toaster oven. The middle of the kitchen floor was OK, but the edges of the floor were dirty. I didn't receive an invoice, so I texted the next day asking how much I owed. I also let Paula know what hadn't been cleaned. I didn't hear anything until a week later when she told me I owed $127.50 for an hour and a half. I have a small studio apartment that I keep tidy and the dishes cleaned, so it usually doesn't take long to clean. It was way past the appointment time so I wasn't there to see the time. In her voicemail to me, she said that I knew her ladies were there for that amount of time even though I wasn't there. I sent Paula photos of the dirty freezer with food stains (in the photos, you could tell it was a freezer and I also texted that I had sent photos of the freezer), and she dismissed them saying it looked clean to her and to "stop playing." I offered to pay $70 for the poor and late job. She said she was going to come to my door and insist on full payment if I didn't pay her the full amount. Later on, I asked if the freezer was included in the fridge cleaning, and she repeated she wanted the full amount. Finally, she said the freezer wasn't included. She could have said that earlier instead of leaving me an unpleasant voicemail and texts. When I sent her photos of the dirty fridge (not the freezer), instead of addressing my concerns, she said to pay her and "I don't have time for this." After much debate, I finally paid the full amount, but won't be using this service again because I don't have time for this. read more

When no one showed up during that later time, she became entirely unresponsive to all my status inquiries. Not only was the quality of cleaning excellent, but the customer service was terrific as well. We've been using Paula's cleaning service for at least 5 years. I always love coming home after they clean. They do a really thorough job - I'm often a little surprised when I notice stuff they have cleaned that I wouldn't assume a cleaning service would do. Paula always tries to accommodate our schedule if needed (like when our youngest was an infant and I wanted them to come when he was not napping so they could clean his room). There have been a couple of times over the years when something has been broken (or they thought something was broken) while they were here, really only a couple and nothing of any value, and they always leave it out so we could see it with a note. But they prioritize their biweekly cleaning clients, so it got to the point that I had to stalk them just to get on their schedule. And the last straw was when they simply didn't show up for a scheduled appointment. I was told that the cleaning team "must have showed up for the regular client" because sometimes they don't look at the schedule. Which, sorry, but that's plain old not professional. Paula from Paula's Organic is terrible. Her workers showed up almost 2 hours after she told me they would arrive and then when I told her I had an appointment and needed them gone in 2 hours she told me the job would take 3 hours, so I told them to do what they could and I'd have them come back at a later date, oppose to listening Paula was arguing with me about how my walls needed to be washed, when I told her I didn't want that taken care of. The best part is her workers finished the job in an hour and a half and she still charged me for 2 hrs because she felt her workers had to rush. When that was not the reality considering they were standing around talking to Paula for at least 10-15 minutes before starting. I would not recommend or ever use this service again. We loved loved loved Paula's Organic Cleaning. It was $75/hour but for 3 people who worked hard the whole time they were here. They were here for 3 hours. They even removed my clutter from a cabinet and put it all back so there is no dust on those shelves. They also removed all the soap gunk from my soap dish! Um...wow. My house was gross and I came home to it looking amazing!!!! After our first-time deep cleaning, we have signed up for regular visits. We are a multi-animal, multi-person, uber-busy professional home (i.e. - we do not have much time for cleaning) and Paula's team made our home look and feel terrific. Most importantly, when I let the team know upon their arrival that we had 5 cats who could NOT be let outside they were respectful of that and very on top of it. AND, when I introduced them to our elderly cat who is failing health and essentially told them "work around him", it was made very clear to me that they would handle him gently and with kindness.
