I was planning a wagyu steak dinner and wanted to level it up with some caviar. After seeing all the glowing reviews, I stopped by Pava Caviar Shop -- and it did not disappoint. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted and asked what I was looking for. I mentioned the steak dinner, and they immediately suggested the Kaluga, which was exactly what I had in mind. I got to sample a few options (a really nice touch), and everything I tried was delicious. I ended up going with the Hybrid Imperial and grabbed some blinis to go along with it. The packaging was beautiful -- secure, elegant, and perfect for the ride home. To top it off, they included a mother-of-pearl spoon for free, which was such a thoughtful bonus! Super excited to pair this with dinner tonight. Can't wait to come back -- this place is a gem! read more

Fantastic experience and fantastic caviar. I am a caviar novice but Vic was very kind, knowledgeable, and gave me a great recommendation. I had initially set up my back patio for a nice evening with champagne, music, and caviar, but after 10 minutes, it was clear there were too many mosquitos. So I basically ended up drinking champagne and eating my caviar on my couch while watching Scrubs reruns. Obviously best decision ever. The evening was awesome (and very delicious). I purchased two caviar varieties, both excellent; the Siberian Sturgeon ended being my favorite. I will be back again. read more

Like most people, I was drawn to this particular shop to buy some caviar for a brunch due to the five star rating on Yelp. However, when I walked in, I was immediately taken aback by the thick cigarette odor that permeated this place. I could barely think straight while in there. There was one person behind the counter, and he asked me how many ounces I wanted to purchase today. As I was perusing the different types, he offered a sample of two kinds. Again, because of the smell of cigarettes, I felt like I had to hurry up and make my decision to swiftly leave the place. I made my decision and he was packing my caviar while he was on the phone with someone. He wasn't wearing a mask or anything so I didn't feel great seeing someone speak so close to the caviar that was being scooped for me. I'd say the prices here are quite cheap for caviar because they are all from China. You get what you pay for. He was nice to offer a local discount of 10% for being a local. However, he just handed me the tin after I paid. I was stunned, like no bag or ice pack or anything? I asked if I could at least get a bag and he was like, "But you're going straight home right?" What a way to assume that I won't have any errands to run afterwards, and that the caviar will stay chilled and not go bad by the time I get home. I asked for a bag and he gave me a cheap bag that didn't even close/insulate. I saw other reviews where people would receive ice cooler bags, tin opener, and mother of pearl spoons but none of those things were offered and I felt as though he was discriminatory and didn't want my business. I'd rather just go to Absolute Caviar (also very local) where service is top notch, and you get quality caviar and pay unbeatable prices for it. read more

Vic is a stand up guy with a great shop. Stopped by a little bit before closing off a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. There was a good selection of caviar at a great price, and Vic was very helpful and knowledgeable in his selection. The caviar was great: very rich and no string fishy taste. Awesome experience today at Pava. My husband and I live just around the corner from this shop but have never visited. We were looking for caviar for our NYE celebration and found the shop on Yelp. We walked over mid-afternoon. After a short wait (it's apparently very popular!), were greeted by the store owner who offered us a sample of the Ossetra and the Kaluga, too! Super knowledgeable, honest, and friendly. Gave us a superb discount when he packed the tin we ordered with the last bit from an extra large container and offered to repack from a new supply or take a discount for what he had already packed for us. This is the kind of customer service that will keep us coming back for a longggg time! So happy to have found this place and excited to come back again soon! read more

I must admit, I have no idea why there are two caviar shops within a 10-block radius. But I must admit I have been going to the wrong one! I stepped into Pava Caviar, a very barren store, but don't let that deter you. What lacks in decor is made up for by the most amazing caviar selection, with taste and price. The owner, Vik, was as friendly as can be. I was a kid in a candy shop as he offered tastes and knowledge. I went with the osetra because it was so buttery and so, so good. I bought it for two separate households. We have had it from the other shop as well. The household agreed that this was far superior in terms of labor intake. The best part is that Vic asked for local, as he gives local discounts! I'm so happy I found a new Caviar shot for when the occasion calls for splurging. Caviar has American as well, and he can accommodate any budget. I can't say that for my old shop. This is now my go-to Caviar shop!! read more

I am a long time customer of Pava Caviar. For the last 20 years I buy caviar from this shop because I know they sell the highest quality products. Red caviar is kosher so my Jewish friends love it. I believe this shop is a uniq place in LA to buy caviar. Also the service is amazing. The store manager Vic is very nice and provides you excellent customer service. My experience at Pava was unmatched compared to other caviar shops I've been to. I ordered for pickup online through their website and purchased 1 oz of the Ossetra Imperial, 1 oz of the Kaluga Reserve, and 2 oz of the Kaluga Imperial. Little did I know when it was time to pick up my order that it would come in a cute cooler bag packed with ice, mother of pearl spoons, and an opener. They also gave me 2 oz of the Kaluga Reserve, 2 oz of the Ossetra Imperial, and 4 oz of the Kaluga Imperial, DOUBLE of everything I ordered! I screamed like a kid on Christmas Day when I realized. The caviar also tasted amazing and went beyond my expectations in terms of taste and quality. Thank you Pava for making my caviar dreams come true. What a gem to have found in my neighborhood. I have tried other shops in the area, but this one is far superior. The proprietor was so knowledgeable and we had such a fun time tasting the different caviars. He made sure I went home with the one I wanted at a good price. I would never go anywhere else after visiting this beautiful little shop-- all of the accoutrement that come with the caviar are so classy & superlative to other shops. I originally wanted catfish fillets, but they were out. Adrian offered catfish nuggets as a substitute, but I passed. I then asked for red snapper or rockfish, but they had neither. I moved on to cod, but at $19.99 a pound, I said, "Not today." Finally, he told me they had tilapia for $10.99 a pound, so I ordered two pounds. He asked what seasoning I wanted, and I told him I wanted to try all three -- Cajun, lemon pepper, and one other that I can't remember. He told me it would be ready in 12 minutes, and when I arrived 12 minutes later, it was ready! It was fresh, hot, and delicious. I could hardly wait to get back home and eat it all lol. With a simple Google search I found out that Caviar & Delicatessen sells cozonac for Easter, a sweet bread, traditional for Romania. I realized they are close to me and checked them out. Caviar & Delicatessen took over a Russian deli about 1 year ago. Don't know about any caviar here, now it's a Romania Deli with owners from my neck of the woods, they do sell products for the Russian and Armenian community. I called and paid $10 as down payment for a cozonac to place my order with the older owner, who was very nice. Went to pick it up and checked out the store. They sell imported items: jellies, spreads, canned goods, juices, soft drinks from Eastern Europe. A bit pricey, but they are imported, not their fault (yes, tariffs!). They also sell fresh vegetables, fruit, bread. They make desserts and many salads, dips (boeuf salad=Russian salad, hummus, babaganoush, eggplant salads- salata de vinete and zacusca, bean dip), prepared food- roasted potatoes , meatballs in tomato sauce, schnitzel, kebabs, fried fish. They also had drob for Easter. Everything looked fresh and inviting! It was fun to browse and explore the merchandise! Tables outside! My cozonac was big, delicious, well made. It was rich in ingredients: cocoa, walnuts, raisins, great filling! It is a very hard dessert to make, I am not gonna even try. But it was a major treat to buy it ready to go in LA and the quality is outstanding! It's worth the price because they use all the right ingredients! I got painted eggs, well done, the bean dip was terrific, the mititei (our version of kofta) were so good, meat well blended, all the right spices. You get them frozen here, a decent amount, we'll have them a few times. I never made them, but they came well off the grill, tasted like in restaurants in Bucharest. Ready to go back and shop more goodies. 1 star lower because of the service, the girl couldn't find my order, had to step in, helped other ladies ahead of us, even if we were there first! Service was slow, she forgot to take $10 deposit off my final bill. Had to step in. Also, I couldn't charm my way into placing an order for pasca (didn't know they make it) sweet cheese Easter dessert. As a first time customer I couldn't convince the owner's son, he was tad curt. Maybe too much on his plate. Live and learn, note to myself to place orders ahead of time. For non-Eastern Europeans - try their vegetarian dips, they are full of flavor and take home some prepared deli meals. They can spare you from making dinner! It's easy to try, nothing strange here! Glad they are close, high quality food, helped with my homesickness for my Easter time this year!
