I like it because it's not overly heavy like some other lasagnas. It comes with two piecea of garlic bread. During my last visit, one was a bit burnt on the edges. The pastrami sandwich is really tasty, and the bread is soft but still has a nice chew. It usually comes with marinated diced tomatoes, but I always ask for them on the side. If you dine in, the sandwich comes with two deli sides. On my last visit, I got the potato salad and marinated artichokes and both were great. The potato salad was creamy, and the artichokes were super flavorful. For dessert, I tried the tiramisu, and it was a bit underwhelming. It had a slightly gritty texture. Since it's imported from Italy, I had high expectations, but I'm guessing it's shipped frozen, which might be why it didn't taste fresh. I wouldn't order it again. They also sell Italian cookies and gelato. The cookies are good, especially the raspberry ones. The gelato is really refreshing. I recommend mixing mango and raspberry if you like something tart, or trying the tiramisu flavor if you want something sweeter. So, without a doubt I've had my fair share of Italian food. But you haven't LIVED until you try this place. I had the absolute pleasure of getting to try their butternut squash ravioli in a delicious pink sauce, and their monte carlo pizza which I cannot possibly over praise for how fantastic how perfectly crispy the crust was. Tons of pizzas get it wrong, where you'll get a "gummy" layer between the top and bottom of your standard pizza, but this one? This one was PERFECT in the crisp factor and the toppings, were fantastic. To top it all off, we got some gelato which exactly the kinds of thing that helps shake off a heatwave. The people serving us were super friendly and it genuinely makes me wish I had known about this place sooner. The GARLIC BREAD was so fantastically tasty that I could have made it a dish all by itself. They load you up with so much food and a whole basket of garlic bread. Huge portions and great prices. The tables are covered in white-and-red checkered tablecloths, and it's a super popular family spot for lunch and dinner. Room for large groups. Classic maroon leather booth seating. Plenty of tables in 3 different rooms and a few tables on an outdoor patio. The grocery side features a gelato case, a bakery case full of all sorts of Italian cookies and pastries, lots of wine, pasta, cheeses, tomato sauce, olive oils, fresh breads...so many delicious things!!! This is a hidden gem in Burbank. They have deli/ grocery and restaurant all in the same location which makes it very convenient. They sell gelato too which it's perfect to try during summer. They have a variety of Italian deli meat and sausages. They also sell pasta and pasta sauces all made in Italy. They have different kinds of Italian coffees too. I also noticed they sell Italian packaged cookies and They also have a small selection of different kinds of Italian pastries such as cannoli. This location makes you feel like you're in Italy since everything is Italian. Even the restaurant is decorated like the restaurants in Italy. Service is friendly. As I was walked in I was greeted. There were people ordering food to go or to dine in. I believe this location takes online and phone orders. For the parking, this location has a private parking lot. I grew going to this store. The ownership has changed but the store remains largely unchanged. They carry Italian items that are difficult to find elsewhere. There was a time many years ago that the restaurant was pretty good. It's not a fancy restaurant. It's basically cafeteria style food. Wasn't impressed today. The food was basic, it was Lukewarm, the meatball lacked flavor & the spinach ravioli was fair. The eggplant parm was soggy. I've had these dishes in the past and they were much better back then. This time I came here to get all the "salami" needed for a Muffellata. The New Orleans mega sandwich. It was for a gathering of friends to honor my Brother Maurizio (who passed away 5/25/18) he was an avid sandwich fan. I came here early Saturday morning, and it was a breeze, for me, but a lot of work for Edgar who actually asked me how he can help. Well I told him all of the "salumi" I opted for 1/2 lb each of mortadella con pistachi, prosciutto, capocollo, salami genovese, provolone, caccio cavallo. He was on it while I perused the aisles, finding the necessary olive salad, giardiniera, and pepperonicini. I then went to the counter and everything was perfectly wrapped in pristine white deli paper, all marked. Right behind the checkout was the perfect sesame bread I needed for the edible vessel I needed for these delectable treasures. Italian Deli meets Restaurant Serving the San Fernando Valley for over 50 years with a wide range of imported wines, cheeses, meats, groceries and more... Not to mention in house made from scratch bread and other local favorites plus they do Italian Ice Cream aka Gelato aka it's part Gelateria (they may even have a sorbet). It's beautiful brick walls plus rustic panels on the restaurant half and bright well spaced displays in the grocery with lots of Italian and European motifs throughout. I've found some great gifts for friends over the years (grocery side) only stopping in briefly for wine and more, but finally had the full Monte Carlo /Pinocchio experience when we dined in. It was busy as I expected but picked up even more as we were ordering. My boyfriend went for the meat lasagna and knowing this was going to be my first big meal of the day I was ready to build an epic large salad and wow did I ever! The layout is pretty fun, intimate and neighborhood. First rate service and kindness from start to finish. I did a few sides like the artichokes, mushrooms and so on but did remember they had some go to small salads like their: Three Bean Salad, Spinach Salad, Green Bean Salad, Caesar, etc. Note the salads aren't listen on the menu board (behind the deli counter), however all the ingredients are laid out in front of you as well as online. Vegetarian options are abundant as well as some gluten free options especially when it comes to pizzas or pasta. You can even have a vegan pizza pie done without cheese. I discovered the Vegan Vegetable Ravioli (also GF) after our lunch here, definitely noted for next time. I try to just enjoy what I can when I check out authentic Italian spots like M.C.'s so it's always appreciated when they have a few things to choose from PLUS... The portions and prices for everything are out of this world from Ziti to Spaghetti dishes, Eggplant Parmigiana, Sandwiches, tons of other entrees, sides for days and more including bottled beverages, beer, wine and water. You can enjoy a few tables or booths inside or the patio (limited seating) overlooking Magnolia Blvd in the city of Burbank near other longtime must like The Mystic Museum, Halloween Town, Blast From the Past and more. I can't believe in my over 30 years having grown up in LA that I only came to this deli / market for the first time. I loved the atmosphere of walking into the kitchen of someone's home, the portions, prices, and selections were just all on point. They quickly got our meal prepared and seem to have enough staff to get people through. We went at lunchtime on a weekday and it was moderately busy but not impossible. I had dinner here at peak dinner hours and there was a line. It moves fairly quickly, but be prepared to wait. (Think Porto's line.) I had spaghetti and it was okay. I love the giant meatballs that comes with it. I wish the spaghetti was actually drained that way the meat sauce isn't diluted with pasta water. The Monte Carlo Combination was really good and I think the best bang for your buck. For an additional $1 (for dine-in meals) you get 2 sides to choose from. The sandwich had a good ratio of meat and bread. The staff was great. You can tell that this place has been around for years and knows exactly what they're doing. No delivery service but had no problem picking it up have a problem that the website prices were not what I was quoted on the phone for example a full tray of chicken cutlet Parmesan on the website was $85 but I was told on the phone it was 135 I ordered a couple of things anyway half a half a eggplant Parmesan and a full catering pan of chicken cut with Parmesan. After picking it up and dropping it at the memorial it was horrible. This chicken was just fat pieces of chicken. It was not cutlets. It was not breaded. No did it have mozzarella on it? It was not chicken cutlet Parmesan. It was not breaded, and it was on top of pasta. It looks terrible. It tasted terrible. That eggplant Parmesan was not breaded. There was some bread crumbs thrown on the top maybe that's the way they make it but being in Italian I never had chicken cutlet Parmesan, which is fat pieces of chicken not breaded with no mozzarella. This place is foundational, and it's part Italian market, part cafeteria line, and the gelato is soooo good. I've been coming here since I was a kid, back when my family had a business nearby. However, there's nothing pretentious here. You won't find microgreens or balsamic foam, and that's what I like about it. What you'll find is a lasagna the size of a brick, sandwiches that weigh more than a newborn, and a nice booth to sit and talk with friends/family. But in recent years, something's changed. The food just doesn't hit like it used to. I don't know if the original cook retired or if corners started getting cut, but its flavor, freshness, and quality has significantly plummeted. I ordered the eggplant lasagna, and it tasted like it was reheated in a microwave. I love this place, but I hope the owners, or whoever is running the place takes the time to listen and make those small changes. Just a few small tweaks to bring back its quality.
