I love this place. It is close to my father's house and they have everything you might need. I asked for Somph (fennel seeds) I did not know the English equivalent. Ambchor (I can't even begin to explain that to you) and Kaila Mircha (black pepper). The shop owner was amazingly helpful. Super nice. And treated me like family. Love this place. read more

As other reviewers had mentioned, they are selling items at a premium ARTIFICIALLY INFLATED prices. I have never paid more than $4 (plus tax) for a big box of Pani Puri/ Fouchka, I was appalled to pay $8 for one single off brand box that didn't even have the spice packet inside. What made matters worse was the salesclerk was speaking down to me and trying to justify why this product was marked so high, he kept telling me I can go home and count it myself and make sure there were however many pieces inside. Then he asked if I was Phillipino which is so inappropriate, irrelevant, and racist. The pros: Well they do have a nice shared parking lot and it did have what I was desperately looking for. Normally I goto Bombay Market in Chatsworth but I figured I'd give this location a try... the only reason why I'm happy to try this mess was because now I appreciate Bombay market 10000x more - I already love Bombay market which is why I've been going there for almost a decade. I highly DO NOT recommend this place to anyone. If you're smart you'll learn from me and all the others who had bad experiences. If you're gullible or maybe new to this style of market maybe you won't be offended but I'm not new to these markets and I do know how to cook Indian food and I know what I'm shopping for and I have been to tons of Indian markets all over the US and this is by far the absolute worst one. People have a right to price however they want to price, I'm not upset at that... I'm upset at the whole talking to me like I'm an idiot and being openly racist. Also there was some strange smell and no air conditioning, it was hot inside. This guy was also NOT WEARING A MASK. Without nepotism I'm sure this dude would not be working here. Oh another thing he was bs'ing about was the brand Quick Tea- he said that Quick Tea went out of business - total lies- this store just doesn't carry Quick Tea which isn't a big deal just say so, no need to lie and say the company Quick Tea went out of business, I literally rolled my eyes at him because this brand is massive I wouldn't be surprised if Nestle or some big beverage company owned Quick Tea lol. Cannot stand liars especially when you are a customer. The dishonesty and arrogance from this dude was out of control. Also I noticed a lot of items were expired and not properly stored. Another detail- no price tags on any items and he's literally just price gouging and making prices up. They do not have any price tags listed on the item and the lady cashier who seems the owner of the shop charged anything which is absurd. I paid $4.99 for a small pack of sugar which is usually $1 at any grocery store. I also paid $5 for a pack of sugar which goes like $1.50. I have been living in the area for years and this is the first time I found this place! It's a cute little Indian market where you can find samosas, and Exotic desserts! In addition, I was able to find fresh molasses before it melted! I currently use the molasses in my coffee and it is delicious! In addition, they have all kinds of Indian sweets and herbs! I don't know what the desert is called but they have two types of desserts where they are made of a chick pea gluten free flour! I think it was a Arabic desert however it was so good! It wasn't too sweet and just hit the spot. For all you vegans and vegetarians out there at this would've been perfect! In addition, they had the samosas which were home made! Just as good! If you are vegan or vegetarian this would be perfect for you! They also have fresh Neem juice, oil and a powder. If anyone is having any type of eczema problem, too much dandruff, and or want to just clean yourself internally these are great! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. A dusty old 5lb bag of cumin powder cost $40 here when I can get the same thing, fresher, for $20. The same amount of cumin seeds was $60. Where does she get her prices from?!? The lady was nice but she insisted that it was because the spices were imported from India... Well so are the spices elsewhere. I feel so sad. After receiving a friend's cancer diagnosis and reading up on anti-inflammatory spices and teas, I tried this shop. I was surprised to get the "you have such good energy, I can tell you're a good person" spiel from the guy who worked there, as I felt as if I was constantly about to burst into tears. He loaded me up with products, talked to me constantly as he rang them up and then all of sudden I was handing over my credit card for over a hundred dollars for five items. It's just another blow on an awful day. Wish I'd had the presence of mind to read all these one star reviews before heading in, but the idea that I might be taken advantage of while so focused on trying to help my friend who I love, never crossed my mind. I am new to cooking Indian food and came here to buy some ingredients I learned about online. The lady at the counter, was extremely helpful and walked me through the store helping me find every item on my list, explaining how to use them, and giving me recommendations for different products. It ended up being a somewhat expensive grocery run, but most of the items I bought are dried or frozen so they should last a long time! Very happy with the quality and service! I got to know about this store in the year 2015, I bought a bag of rice it was light in weight but did't bother to check it cause never had these kind of experience but I came home and saw it was cut with a blade or something and took some rice off of the bag and plaster with a cellophane tape. Look - I wanna give this place 5 stars. The older man who helped me find Hing was very friendly on a night, not 30min before closing. He was a very patient man, carrying good vibes. He didn't blink when I [embarrassingly] asked him to repeat himself 4 times in a row. So good local importer vibes - he showed me everything they had to offer, and made sure I had the items I needed before checking out. The selection of India-related food stuffs *seems* up to par, if not ahead of the curve in the SFV. I purchased 3 basic spices (Hing, cardamom pods, mustard seed) which came out to $18. I'm not going to give a poor review because AMAZON wOuLd ChArGe LeSs ThAn ThIs!!!!!@!~!!!! If you don't want to pay their prices, Get your head OUT* of your butt hole, & don't give your money to a huge corporation for 4-5 days. So I had an adventurous idea that I wanted to make an authentic Indian dish, Indian Butter Chicken and sides but the recipes required certain herbs and spices that are not sold in your usual grocery store. I searched high and low for an Indian grocery store or spice store and found this place. I pulled right up to the front door literally, the available street parking was very convenient. I walked in and expected to get awkward looks like what is this black girl doing in here lol It was a semi-small store about the size of a NY bodega but well stocked. But I was very knowledgeable about my ingredients and had an idea of which aisle to find them. It's not rocket science, the obvious that spices would be on the spice aisle and ginger garlic paste would be close by. So after collecting a couple spices, I needed assistance with finding Kasoori Methi (Dried Fenugreek leaves) and the employee walked me right to them. I was familiar with the ingredients but not what they would run me. I felt the prices weren't too pricey because you get a great amount of it. Once I grabbed everything I was looking for in a matter of minutes I proceeded to check out. I was asked how did I find out about this place and the cashier, same man that helped me find my Kasoori Methi leaves, told me that this was his son's store. He told me about other Indian products, spices, foods, and household goods that they had asides from the spices I had found. I was like nice. I love supporting Mom and Pop type businesses. I handed him a credit card to pay for my items and he asked if I have cash. Noted, they prefer if you pay in cash. He bagged up my items with a huge smile and thanked me for coming. Price gauging at the best. We were close by at a doctors place and wanted an Indian spice. Found this store on Google maps and decided to go there for first time. The lady who stands next to the cash counter seems to be the owner and talks all nice but you can make out the BS that flows from her mouth. She will try to oversell everything and dispose off old products which no one buys. I must have bought like a tea packet, 2 lentil packets, 1 spice packet and my total was $49.75. WTF!! The India sweets and spices store would offer the same for around $30. This will obviously be my first and last trip. Avoid this place. Just google and you will find Indian grocery stores near by.
