We went with a group of 6, and tried lots of entrees and appetizers. We all loved everything! Nothing bad to say about the food or the service, it exceeded our expectations. The decor was ok, but didn't match the quality of food or the price. We were the only ones there, which is a shame because the food was excellent. They bring out delicious, fresh bread, hot from the oven, with soft butter (I hate places with hard butter). The asian skirt steak and romanoff beef stew got rave reviews, as did the julienne mushrooms and caprese tower appetizers. read more

The Pavillion in Northbrook, IL. offers excellent food. Their mushroom soup is the best . My companion had Beef Strogonff and I had Sea Bass. I decided to get carry out to eat at home with the boyfriend and watch Netflix. (don't judge) They forgot to put some of my food in the bag so I called in and I spoke to Amy. Wow. Is what I can say. The restaurant was unfortunately closing, she asked where I lived and it was close to her house. She told me she would drop the food off. She is now on her way and I cannot believe she was so polite, kind and doing something which only a small group of people does which is GO OUT of her way to deliver my food on a Friday night. Pavillion is one (if not the best) restaurant I have went to in the suburban area. As soon as I walked in, the atmosphere uplifted me and I could smell the aroma of the spectacular food as I took my seat. I was with a party of 5 and instantaneously, just by their facial expressions, I knew we were coming back. The restaurant looked beautiful and elegant inside and the staff greeted us right away. There was plenty to choose from and the menu contained dishes that I could right away taste just by reading the description. Great food & Service! Went here on a Groupon That allowed 1 appetizer, 2 entrees & 2 glasses of wine. Had the Beef Carpaccio appetizer - a HUGE serving of beef over a large batch of mixed greens. The balsamic reduction was fabulous! I ordered the Lamb Chops. Cooked perfectly with a wonderful sauce, baby baked potatoes & asparagus. Brought 2 home as the portions were quite large. My companion wasn't drinking, so our waiter happily substituted the great borscht. The Chilean Sea Bass was also perfectly cooked and another large serving, along with their amazing beet chips & grilled veggies. This was a repeat visit. stay away from this place, the server was called over when they failed to give one of the four people at the table a side of rice. When asked about such rather than to say I will get you the some she demanded that was on the plate and became belligerent with the table, insistent that it was on the plate when she brought over....not sign on the plate of it ever being there. She then failed to bring us our soft drinks and coffee. The other servers came rather than trying to resolve this joined in defending her. Later after we finished our lunch without the rice ever appearing we were in a post lunch conversation when the General Manager came over and instead of apologizing for her employees rudeness she attack us and said she has been my employee for 10 years and we were rude to this employee and that she will call the police if we don't leave the restaurant now. We left the cash for the amount of the check and no tip which resulted in the general manager and server demanding a tip. We responded to both with the best tip is both of you should learn to treat customers with respect in the same manner which you want to be treated. All of the 4 were retired professionals in our early 70s and we all agreed that we have never ever been confronted like this in any restaurant. The food is poorly prepared and tastes, awful along with being over priced. The restaurant appears to be more of club for friends of the management than a public restaurant. We went to this restaurant after reading a favorable review in the Wilmette Beacon. The reporters either are relatives of the owners, or they were on drugs. Although the restaurant bills itself as Eastern European, there were very few Eastern European dishes on the menu. We were one of three parties in the restaurant, and there were four waiters/bar staff milling about and chatting with each other. Nevertheless, the service was terrible. They did not have the wine we ordered. Our waiter forgot to serve our appetizer even after we reminded him about it. Borscht was tasteless. Lamb chops were delicious, but not served as pictured on the restaurant's website. Bread was stale, as were dessert pastries. Atmosphere is bizarre, with extremely bright lighting and weird loud music. Overall, a very disappointing experience. read more

My husband took me here for my birthday and we had a pleasant dinner. We ordered the blini appetizers and borscht, both delicious. For entrees he had whitefish and I had the stroganoff, both of which we'd order again. Service was attentive and the chef offered us a free dessert for our special occasion. We chose apple tart which came embellished with swirls of raspberry coulis and ice cream. The stereo speakers were great, almost like having the musicians in the room with us. I have been to this restaurant a few times in the past and it was great. Went there again yesterday and it was awful. Starting with the fact that the waiter was not very nice ending with food that was cold and tasted like it was cooked months ago and frozen then warmed up. The prices were outrageous for the amount of food you get. They used to be so much better. What a shame. I had to ask the waiter for items that came with my meal according to the menu and he seemed less than pleased ( I was not asking for anything outside of what was listed in the menu that came with my food) at one point he snapped at a guest at the table. We celebrated a private kid's birthday event here. It was a lunch buffet style party. Overall great ambience, service and good food. They were accommodating of all our requests. We were greeted by the hostess who took our drink orders right away. They promptly brought out the beverage and bread, then it went downhill from there. I ordered the lobster fettuccine with the lemon butter sauce. You had the choice of an alfredo sauce or lemon butter sauce. After about 15 the water comes out and says we don't fettuccine we made ravioli instead, you want that instead? I told them no so they brought me another menu. Why would they wait so long to inform me they did not have what I ordered and why would they prepare another dish without asking me first? :( They had a seafood linguini so I as If they could bring me the lobster fettuccine with lemon butter sauce on the linguini noodles instead, they said yes. Roughly another 10-15 min pass and they bring out my wife's food and a plate of seafood linguini not what I ordered. I inform the waiter that it was not what I had ordered, to which he replied are you sure. :( he apologised, then took my order again to which I repeated again to try and prevent another mistake that I wanted the lobster fettuccine with the lemon butter sauce but since they did not have fettuccine noodles serve it with linguini noodles. back to the kitchen, he went again, mind you not one of these times did he ever write anything down. During all this, it was only me and my wife, and 2 parties of 4 that came in after us ate and left before I received my food. Now my wife is done with her food and they finally bring out my food. It looks correct so I start to eat but realise they had put the alfredo sauce on it and not the lemon butter sauce. Again I bring it up to who I believe was the manager this time who then tells me no that is the lemon butter sauce. So basically lies to me. I have eaten alfredo sauce enough to know what it tastes like. However, we had been there now more than an hour my wife was finished with her meal for quite some time now and I was seeing red over the whole experience. I just excepted the mistake again ate the meal so we could get out of there. They did at least take my meal off of the bill. We will never return to this establishment. read more

If you are looking for a romantic evening out, this is not the restaurant to choose - the overhead lighting is bright, the room is a bit stark, and the tables are pretty plain. But, if you're looking for authentic Eastern European cuisine, well-prepared and tasty, then this is the place to go. My wife started with a Ukrainian Salad, which came in a deep bowl, with tomatoes, cucumbers and radishes, in a deliciously refreshing sour cream dressing garnished with dill - and the serving size was huge. I had the Russian-style fish soup, with salmon and sturgeon, with chopped leeks in a nice broth. My main course was Pozharskie chicken cutlets, two fried chopped chicken patties with a 'jumbo' breadcrumb coating, mashed potatoes and a spicy red dipping sauce. My wife had Chicken Marsala with red cabbage. Ran out of food on Mother's Day! And the manager's excuse - we had big groups! No kidding - what would a restaurant expect on Mother's Day! At least if we were informed at the beginning of the evening that they were short some items, it would not have been such an issue. But we were told they had a specific entree, waited 30 minutes, and then the waitress returned to tell us they were out. The manager had come by earlier with the dessert menus. We told her that we had not yet received our entrees. She said she would go back and check with the kitchen but never made the effort. After sitting for 1 hour 15 minutes and not getting our entree, when we were told they were out of the turkey my husband ordered, we asked for the check. Rather than offering to deduct one of the $18 entrees, the manager tried to give us a "coupon" for 2 for 1 entrees for next time. Sorry, there won't be a "next time." read more

There were six of us for dinner on a Sunday night. We came in at 6:30 and were the only ones there. That didn't seem like a good sign. Eventually there was one other table filled. We skipped drinks; note that this is definitely not the place for good beer. We shared grilled Caesar salads and everyone thought they were very good. Entrees, however, were another story. Seafood linguine went back (and we were not charged for it). The seafood was tough and my father-in-law had not realized just how creamy the lemon butter cream sauce would be. It really wasn't much different from al fredo. The beef stroganoff was a generous portion but nothing special. My trout was good but a bit overdone. Most entrees come with two sides. My red roasted potatoes were tasty but salty. Asparagus was good. The server forgot to ask whether my sister-in-law wanted her lobster tail grilled or steamed. I think it was served steamed. In either event, she said it was just ok. She ordered borscht for one of her sides and complained that the menu said it would have chicken in it and it did not. The skirt steak was also just ok Dessert, however, was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the tiramisu and lava cake. read more

Visited last year, but forgot to post this review. Meals and service were below average. Significantly, the Pavilion Restaurant employee insisted that a party of 2 was required to pay a 19% gratuity with the use of the "restaurant.com" coupon. While the restaurant.com website stated that there were additional requirements imposed by the restaurant, stating specifically that a check exceeding $50 was required with the coupons use, it did not state that a 19% gratuity would be charged with its use by any size party. Neither did the menu clearly state that such "gratuity" would be charged with the use of the coupon. The menu did state that a party of 6 would be charged that amount of gratuity. The charge by the restaurant cannot be properly described as a gratuity since it is not at the discretion of the customer. It is what has previously been called a "cover charge" under different circumstances, although it could be described as an intentional overcharge. After a long wait it was finally removed from the check. It is what obviously contributed to a very poor dinner experience with my wife. read more
