Best Pavilions ever! After 24 years, I still feel like everyone is family. I have known Bonnie for almost 20 years and I specifically skip the self check option to wait in her line so I can catch up with her. Bonnie is so incredibly dedicated and knowledgeable... truly one of my favorite people! I feel lucky to have her in our store! I have recently gotten to know Stevi in Management... she is very diligent and professional. This Pavilions is very lucky to have this bright young lady on their Management team! Sandie the cashier is so rude. It's Memorial Day weekend & the digital coupon they have posted for beer wasn't being reflected on the price. I TRIED explaining the situation but sandie rudely interrupted me on more than one occasion and actually added MORE confusion to the situation because she doesn't have the patience or self awareness to actually listen to the customer like she's supposed to. She did EVENTUALLY fix the price by manually discounting the beer when she realized what the issue was but not before making sure our interaction with her was everything but pleasant. I was here for an Uber Eats order on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 between 4:02 PM and 4:50 PM PST. The first order went fine and the cashier was very helpful. The second time I came back for two more orders (which I reserved) and up until I had to scan the items, things were fine, despite the fact that I waited a while for items that were RESERVED. The issue I'm running into is that my rating went down because the person that gave me the bags for the two orders said that she marked the order as complete, then condescendingly stated that she feels sorry that I have to scan the items. I would not have been offended had she given me the right number of items, or made it seem like I'm the one making a mistake. My rating dropped because of this incident. I'm stuck in front of the store with no orders because of this. Apology not accepted! Edit: As soon as I shared my experience, I received an order. Labels just require updating. I had one of the worst customer service experiences at this grocery store. While shopping with my infant, the man cleaning the floors stopped right behind me and didn't say a word, just expecting me to move out of the way despite my hands being full with my baby. No offer to help or even a polite request to step aside--just pure disregard for my situation. Then, at checkout, the cashier didn't greet me or say a word. I had to be the one to say "thank you" at the end of the transaction. I expect more than silence and a lack of basic politeness when I'm spending my money at a store. Slowly we became familiar with this shopping center in Newport Coast. Residents in the area said, if you are here, you must visit Pavillions. Do check out the climate controlled wine section (fully stocked Duckhorn) gourmet bakery and the produce. One cannot help but notice the floral creations by Deb & Lilly. Just had to peek in gently to observe the fragrant living floral art. So many bouquets were purchased here and clandestinely placed in the perfect location inside. Customer service is on par with the fabulous Pelican Hill Resort. This store is spotless and "pizza" was hand made in front of us as we waited. They have a special pizza oven in the deli. If you are hungry, the deli provides fresh in-house made offerings. Picnicking on hill? if yes this is the place to get supplies. Vons also delivers. Order on-line. If you choose to eat on the patio---it is located on the north west side of the store.The floral department here allows you to customize any bouquet or special order and arrangement. The pictures will tell a story of its own. You can use e-check out or visit the check out. This property is owned by The Irvine Company. I was in there yesterday on 10/13/15 with my mom and we were looking for a cooler and an ice pack for it. We ask a guy who workers there and he said if "they we have any it would be on isle ten." Well my mom saw the coolers not on isle "ten", but on one of the first isles. There was no one around to help get them down to look at so she had to get another customer to help. When he left the isle my mom found a very nice employee to help. I went and found and found cooler ice packs on ten. Then when I went to check out I was standing waiting in the express lane where the same guy who said "if we have anything they'd be on isle ten" opened a new lane and instead of taking me or someone else he proceeded to take two guys instead. This guy who was a checker and maybe manager was named John. When I was purchasing my two items I asked for a paper bag, but he gave me plastic. I told him politely that I asked for paper and he looked at me with such an attitude and dumped my items into a paper bag and tossed the plastic bag aside. John was NOT at all about customer service, being attentive to customers needs or even being nice and pleasant. He should have all the facts about what the store has or doesn't have and if not then ask someone else. If you act as if I'm wasting your time then find a new job. My mom and I love this store and usually have great experiences with your employees, but not with John. Someone should teach him how to lead, learn the facts of the store, if you have problems you leave them at the door and that a smile and kindness goes a long way. I again love this store, but I will not buy or shop there if John's in there, unless he acts differently and is kinder. read more

I'm really unimpressed with this store. Of course, other prices are the highest of any large grocer. But I would expect better. The grapes were on sale, but not very good. If you're a premium grocer, you should weed out the bad fruit The A&W root beer was on sale, but you have to buy 4, and just like every other time, they don't have 4. Almost the same story for Vitamin water. And I'm really tired of having to go on the app and choose items ahead of time to get the best price. Racial Discrimination happened again in this Pavilions today Time: Sep 14th, 2023, at around 4pmLocation: Pavilions grocery store (21181 Newport Coast Dr., Newport Coast, CA 92657)Name: Richard (unknown last name, about 6 feet high, white), a staff of Pavilions My youngest son (3 years old) had a serious heart condition since birth. He had two open chest cardiology surgeries. Now he is still on medications everyday. So we received a disabled placard from DMV because of him. We are legally entitled to park in any disabled parking space when he is in our car. (We strictly never parked in any disabled parking space when he was not in the car and reserve the spaces for people in need) This afternoon my wife drove to this Pavilions with my son. She parked in a disabled parking space and hung the placard on the mirror as usual. While she hold our son (disabled) in her arms and walked into Pavilions, a gentleman with a name tag of Richard harassed her. Richard discriminated my wife and son based on their age, gender, and body conditions. Although we did not want to share our privacy, my wife politely told Richard that we had the disabled placard, and it was because of our son that we were legally entitled to park there. My older son (11 years old) was there and politely explained to Richard that because of the surgeries his younger brother was considered a disabled person. However, Richard said shame on you and left. My 3 year old son was terrified by how rude Richard was and cried a lot on his way home. I am going to personally visit the store and talk to the manager of the store. I'd like to ask her the following questions: 1, Did Richard harassed everyone legally parked in the disabled parking space? If not, then it was a discrimination against us. 2, Did Richard discriminate people based on how they look or talk? I visit this Pavilions location at least twice a week. During checkout, the rewards pad prompts a survey that must be completed by the customer, not the associates. However, on 3/7/25 at 2 PM, Marissa, a tall Caucasian lady, answered the survey questions herself before I could respond. Although her responses were positive, such as friendly staff and clean store, it was not her decision to make. I did not appreciate that at all and actually she wasn't friendly. My gf often works in upscale communities and always seems to know where the cafés are, as well as other good places to eat or shops to browse. I decided to accompany her on such an occasion and then kill time in the Newport Coast vicinity until she was off work. On the way in she pointed out a Von's Pavillions in a shopping center that was especially nice and a cut above the rest. More significant, she said their wine cellar was huge. I was planning to visit my go-to, Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa so I figured I'd drop by here before retrieving her. Walking in I expected a nice clean store and from the outside it seemed inviting, nobody trying to get people to sign petitions, no unsavory types loitering, then I remembered seeing a sign on the street saying "report panhandling" and I guess that works. Spacious, open, well-lit, and inviting. I aimed for the back, ogled the meat section and butchery, lots of lamb chops and tomahawk ribeyes, definitely upscale indications. Then, the Wine Cellar... from this approach I couldn't see how massive it is, the nice shelves that extend neatly 11' high. I rounded the first corner and saw the one thing that elevates any wine shop above most: A climate controlled area with the top crus vintages, especially from Napa Valley, Italy, and France. A clerk unlocked the door for me and I took my time examining the selection and it's impressive, but very high-end. Clearly the best deals are based on first, membership, and second, buying in quantities of sux or more to obtain the lowest possible price. In some instances, for example, that would come close to everyday prices at Hi-Time Wine Cellars. But, they have many wines that are sold out at said shop and elsewhere, so there's that. One benefit is the provenance of the wine being stored in proper temperature and humidity, and relative ease of picking it up. The rest of the store is impressive, I loved the bakery and the artisinal breads on display. Even the pre-prepped readt to go foods appeared to be fresh and of the highest quality. There's even a large ready-made soup section! Overall, this is definitely the best Pavillions I've ever been in, caters especially well to the higher than average median income of the surrounding community, and just for the well curated wine area alone, it's worth a visit when passing through. read more

I love the store, but I have to tell you I needed to get some salmon from the fish counter, and the guy behind the counter ignored me. it was approximately 8:35 PM so I asked him if they were still open. He ignored me. I asked him three times. Then he walked over didn't ask me if he could help me just looked at me and I said I would like a piece of salmon. He picked up a piece of salmon and slapped the salmon down on the scale, wrapped it quickly and handed it to me. I said thank you. He said nothing. He was very, very rude. read more

Stopped by twice during our time in Newport Beach. Both visits were good. All the staff members who assisted us were helpful. The cashiers were friendly and quick. Prices were pretty reasonable especially for an upscale area. Store was spotless. They carried all kinds of merchandise that I have not seen at my local Vons and Albertson stores. Only thing I was disappointed in was that their Juicery was not open. Would have liked to try one of their Acai bowls. Also, if someone had helped me at the bakery section, I would have bought one of those delicious looking "Original Hot Cookies". Other than that, no complaints. read more

This is truly one of the nicest grocery stores that I have ever visited. The store is sparkling clean no matter what time you visit and appears to be always fully stocked. I visited the deli and received world class customer service. They have a wonderful bakery and wine shop on the premises with again excellent customer service. The store never seems overly crowded with no wait ever at the cashier line. Plenty of parking and conveniently located off a main boulevard. Also, a great Starbucks located in the store and a U.S. Bank branch. I hope you have a chance to visit this Pavilions, you will not be disappointed. read more

After spending a couple hours shopping and filling two large carts with over $700 of food and merchandise my son and I patiently waited our turn in line. We prefer to bring our own bags and bag our own groceries. We have a method in how we load the carts and the conveyor belt such as frozen foods in a group, produce and delicate items (eggs & baked goods) last. When I was in high school decades ago I worked part-time at the local Market Basket and the first thing they did was to train me in the proper method to bag groceries. You know, logical bagging where you didn't put cans of soup on the bread or eggs or, don't place multiple glass jars next to each other or, don't place hot food on top of ice cream, etc etc. Now it appears there isn't any training or concern when it comes bagging a customer's groceries correctly. Seriously, who likes spending $4 or more for each avocado to get home and find them at the bottom of the bag under heavy items and now bruised? Today though is a different story. We brought our own bags and said we were going to be bagging "everything" ourselves "per the store's COVID-19 procedure". Of course that didn't stop the elderly lady working as a bagger from throwing her hands in the air and saying for all to hear, "NO WAY I'M TOUCHING THOSE! I'M GETTING OUT OF HERE!" The manner in which she ANNOUNCED herself made me feel like we were walking diseases. Regardless, we continued and I started bagging my groceries. The checker started bagging items also despite my repeatedly telling her I prefer to do my own. I guess she was in a big hurry even though her unwanted help was actually causing more confusion to our logical process. Because she was just stuffing things into Pavillions bags without a single thought of what she was putting in when I inspected bags I had to undo and repack a few bags. After the bags were finally loaded we left and unfortunately in the moment of literally being hurried out I forgot my large blue thermal insulated canvas bag that said "GELSON'S" printed on it in large letters and and additional dozen extra heavy duty plastic grocery bags inside. We realized the error by the time we walked to our vehicle a mere five parking spaces away from the door. My son immediately returned to the same checker and asked where our bags were. She didn't seem to care and said we must have taken them. I went in and explained the situation to the Manager who said he would have someone check the security camera. That manager left never to be seen again. Eventually a supervisor said that the young kid who bagged the very few things the customer behind us had purchased had used our GELSON'S thermal bag and given it to her. When I asked for reimbursement or even store credit the supervisor said she couldn't offer either. The kid said he would pay from his own pocket. I thanked him but explained the credit is the store's responsibility. So the store rules are don't bag groceries using bags people bring in because they could be infected but go ahead and use someone's bags clearly labeled as from a competitor to bag another person's groceries thereby giving personal property that shouldn't be touched to someone else. And then don't reimburse the person whose property you took and gave away. And to top it off, when we finally get home and unload groceries we find a flattened loaf of bread in the bottom of a Pavillions bag loaded by the impatient Checker. Of course, if the stores would actually train people to bag groceries correctly shoppers would be happier and I bet returns of damage items would also improve. read more

As a doctor who often gets off work late, it was convenient to stop by for groceries before heading home. This is also the only grocery store within a 3-5 mile radius. Their pharmacy was so short staffed and the pharmacists incredibly unhelpful. We had a prescription for Swimmer's ear and the pharmacist told us that it wasn't covered by our insurance but another similar drug was. But instead of calling the doctor, he asked us to. We couldn't get through to speak with the right person at the doctor's office, so we had to go back to their office and ask for them to prescribe the other medication. Which they gladly did. We went back to Pavilion's and the wait was so long. We ultimately had to have the doctor order from CVS. But we wasted 90 minutes because of Pavilion's lack of communication and care. What really sets this grocery store apart from the rest are a few things: 1. Other than Trader Joes in Crystal Cove this is the only grocery store in the Newport Coast area 2. They have a huge selection of wine and alcohol 3. They have a large selection of organic food and produce which is fantastic 4. There is a Starbucks inside the store (and also a Starbucks stand alone store in the same shopping center so 2) 5. They have a great deli section with sushi rolls, boars head meats, etc. 6. Their bakery offers the standard items but also fancy cakes and pastries 7. Their meat and seafood department is expensive but top notch - they have yummy marinated meat/veggie skewers, seafood from Santa Monica seafood, etc. The downfalls of this store that prevent me from giving it 5 stars are: 1. Their inventory management is always off like they tend to be out of basic items (this was even BEFORE the pandemic! it's NOT pandemic related it is inventory management related - although I'm sure the pandemic just exacerbated this issue) Even random items like for like literally 3 years they are always out of stock of Cadbury milk chocolate bars and just have empty packaging - so random! 2. The staff are NOT friendly. Unless I'm dressed up like I'm trying to audition for RHOC the staff range from apathetic to rude (this makes me hate shopping here) (the only exception to this is in the seafood/meat department they are nice and helpful) There used to be a few other helpful employees (Susan in the floral department is outstanding!) but a lot of them have left to work at other stores 3. The pharmacy is unorganized and always takes forever and often they are out of stock on basic medicine (this also was the case BEFORE the pandemic). I actually drive to a CVS like 20min from my house because their pharmacy is waaaaaay better 4. They let people bring their pets inside the store all the time. I know people love their pets but come on!! This is a grocery store and it's also against the law (other than for service animals - like legit service animals - not the $10 fake service animal vest you bought on Amazon.com) but no one seems to care about following the regulations at this store.... Overall, the employees here act like you're doing them a favor by shopping at their store and their rudeness makes me loath shopping here even though they do have a great selection of items - I tend to drive farther(even though this is the store closest to my house) just so I can be treated decently and not be annoyed by a plethora of out of stock items (I have been shopping here for 9 years and this has always been the case). Like any Safeway owned store, it is clean & there is a great selection of everything & the staff is friendly. One thing our Safeways do not have in the bay area is made to order pizzas; I had mine with pepperoni, mozerella, & basil; it only takes a few minutes & a 10 inch for one is filling. Today is a wine sale at Pavilllions and we were there for a pickup at 8:15 am. We could not find the wine manager nor a person in wine to check us out. We went to the front of the store where an individual tried to check us out but did not have the key for the discount. WORST PAVILIONS EVER !! THE PHARMACY ...100% incompetent !! (except for Nerine & the tall blonde woman) I have reached out to a much higher level of Pavillions Corporate management. First of all, they advertise with a sign posted front & center in the Pharmacy " $25. gift card with EVERY transferred prescription" ... false advertising as I transferred 4 RX's and they gave me a $25. gift card and a punch card telling me that I would receive another $25. when I picked up a 5th RX. NOT at all the promo they advertise nor what I received on my phone. (see attached photo) The store is ill staffed, ill stocked and unsanitary! I have watched people pick items out of the salad bar and the Mochi bar with their hands as NO staff is ever in that area to supervise or assist -- nor in the Kombucha area. OBSCENE to have such a large store in such a high-end neighbourhood so poorly run !! The manager, Sam Stroud, works ONLY until 4 p.m. never altering his shift to experience the flow, customers, etc., at various hours. Nor to bolster his staff or provide support! The ONLY satisfactory service I have ever received in the grocery & check out is from Brianna. Lazy, rude, careless clerks. 3x I have had to return merchandise to this store due to erroneous charges -- not by a few cents but for may dollars --one occasion, $9.00 error. ALWAYS to the benefit of the store and always by human error not looking at the proper barcode or price. Every single cashier is so busy bitching about their workload, hours, to another employee that they pay little to no attention to customers. When visiting the veritable Shangri La that is the south Newport Coast proper, it is best to compose oneself with a modicum of decorum befitting one's surroundings. Thus and thus, when camping at Crystal Cove enjoying a few days of ocean view that are likely taken for granted by the first graders at the adjacent elementary school, and realizing all-too-late that the Trader Joe's in PCH inexplicably doesn't stock ice, you are glad to find this Pavilions just a 7 minute drive from the ocean.... even if other patrons look down their store-bought noses at your Old Navy shorts and two-day camping beard. So what if I just stood behind Kobe Bryant in the store. Shrimp is still $10.99 a pound, and there's an overdetermined boutique-ey food court-like area on the left side of the store. Also they don't carry push-ups. That's ice cream for poor San Gabriel Valley kids like me, Sebastian-Francis. Anyway despite the fervent aplomb of this posh, trust-fund-cousin of Vons grocery store, the check our crew is nice, and like I said-- convenience of location. I mean, it is near the 73 toll road, but when you simply must have Calimyrna figs, and that insolent shopping service had the audacity to send you a pound of Kodotas instead... well, Newport Coast Pavilions. I have never written a Yelp review before but my experience with this business compelled me to warn other customers who are new to the area to steer clear. This business has the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. Prescriptions are frequently "lost" in their e script system. It is always the doctors fault according to their inept pharmacy staff even when I am sitting on the telephone with the doctor and the doctor is taking time out of their day to explain the prescription number and locate the script. The staff is then frequently rude to the doctor and to the customer. I had an experience last week where I had a horrible tooth ache and my dentist prescribed pain medication so that I could make it through the weekend and get to his office on Monday. My doctor/dentist is in Los Angeles county near my business. According to the head pharmacist they would not fulfill my pain medication prescription because it was an "out of the area" doctor. The doctor is 30 miles away. Their explanation was that state law prohibits them from fulfilling a prescription for a controlled pain substance to an out of the area doctor who by the way was willing to get on the phone with them. The pharmacist said I should go to urgent care if I wanted the script filled. Their "legal analysis" is completely wrong. During this interaction, another customer came up to me and said to have the prescription sent to CVS down the block and they would fill it. I went to CVS and absolutely no problem. I will now only go the CVS! No more Pavillions pharmacy ever again! read more

This review is NOT based "one bad experience", it is based on more than 25. The PRODUCE- 50% of the time is rotten. Rotten grapes, rotten pineapple, Rotten watermelon, rotten LEMONS, rotten apples, rotten greens, rotten blueberries- Paying Wholefood's Prices for gas station quality produce. Essentially you're paying 200% market value because you'll have to throw away 50% of what you buy- in other words whatever cost you 10$ is now costing you 20$. It's such a shame, because the staff is phenomenal, the store is beautiful and clean and well organized, everything looks amazing! As long as it's "NOT FRESH" then you'll be fine, but whatever is produce, you should think twice. Including what you get in green juices- could you imagine if they're juicing rotten produce and selling it to us? Great location, high end neighborhood. Amazing Store.
