Whatever you do, DO NOT order from their online site. It is the worst service ever. I ordered a set of macarons to be sent to my mother in law for her birthday in OCTOBER and she still has yet to receive it. Now they are telling me the items are on backorder, when it was not indicated as such on the website when I ordered. I even called before I placed my order to confirm that the items will be received in time. No apologies from e-mailing customer service. Edit: So they did apologize and send a box of truffles as an apology, which is an improvement. Hopefully they will get their online operations in order soon. read more

Full review in blog, dish highligts below: For my first taste of Le Squer's cuisine I was a bit taken aback - sure I'd seen pictures and heard that he dabbles in pairing his classic training with modern technique, but I certainly wasn't anticipating a molecular gastronomy in a room like Ledoyen. Presented on a pair of black slate blocks the sextet of canapés du jour were described first in French and then in English by a young woman who would act as my primary server throughout the meal and each one clearly sported not only modern flare, but Eastern influence as well. With options including a "Ginger Bubble," a Veggie Wrap with Sesame, an Asparagus Puff with Nori, an Uni pita, and Crackers flavored with Polenta and Parmesan alongside those made with Sesame and Squid Ink each bite was fun and tasty, but overall it was the Uni Pita that truly stood out - like a pizza-roll stuffed with butter and purple urchin that burst on mastication into a flood of briny flavor. Already glad I'd decided to make the visit my first proper course of the afternoon would be precisely the sort of dish I'd expected from Ledoyen - an eye catching dish pairing top quality ingredients and time-honored techniques with a handful of whimsy. Described as Foie Gras des Landes mi-cuit with chocolate, toffee, vanilla, esplette, and sea salt from the Brittany coast this dish was decadence defined and although offered as an appetizer it could have just as as easily arrived as dessert. Significant in portion and more so in taste I particularly loved the manner in which the crunchy peppered toffee melded the thick layer of creamy liver with the milk chocolate ganache forming a flavor oddly reminiscent of an upscale peanut butter cup with basenotes of smoke and spice. With the plate for course one literally wiped clean to the amusement of my server it would be a short while before my second of the four course lunch menu would arrive, this time "Bresse Chicken in stale bread with Tarragon, Grapefruit, Asparagus and Fine Herb reduction" Again served in ample portion with the bird's mildly gamey flavor and tender flesh enhanced by the tarragon and herbs packed beneath the buttery crust the other high point of this dish was the inspired pairing of thinly sliced white asparagus and grapefruit - two flavors I'd have never thought to combine, but when used in this setting a pleasant acidic accompaniment to the otherwise classic take on "fried chicken." While other diners opting for the lunch menu were preparing for cheeses or desserts the parade of savories would march on for myself in the form of a piping hot structure approximately one and a half times the size of a Twinkie. Dubbed by some as "The Macaroni Castle" (Officially titled Jambon / Morilles / Truffe Aux Spaghettis) this dish came highly recommended by no less than three trusted palates and despite its cost being more than the entirety of the lunch tasting it was absolutely worth it. With tender spaghettis standing vertical beneath a molten cheese roof decorated with crisp potatoes, savory ham, gold, and fresh morels this plate was a visual masterpiece, but like many things it was "the inside that counts" - a liquid filling loaded with butter, parmesan, cream, ham, morels, and chunks of black truffle the size of grapes. Beautiful, complex, aromatic, and decadent in every sense of the word - a dish that will forever stand out in my mind as one of the best things I've ever tasted. The third dessert of the afternoon would arrive perhaps fifteen minutes after the second and this one was much more fitting my sensibilities. Described as "Strawberry, coriander, hibiscus, beurre blanc crème brulee" I personally like to remember this dish as Sophisticated Strawberry Shortcake without the cake. Featuring fraises des bois in a ring surrounding floral pastry cream perched atop the most decadent crème brulee one can imagine at its base the dish was then topped with aromatic coriander foam and smooth strawberry gelato to form a dish where each bite was a little different from the last - it was exquisite. My last dessert would arrive in the form of "Chocolate crunch, caramel, crème fraiche." In my opinion saving the best for last this decadent plate was geometrically pleasing and texturally wowing with two thick fingers of Valrhona ganache filled with nougat and wafer juxtaposing a layer of thick caramel at the center of the plate and tangy vanilla tinged crème fraiche at one side with chocolate pop-rocks at the other. While the room is certainly aged and the service not as whimsical as that of Pierre Gagnaire or l'Arpege I personally did not find either to be cold or boring but instead classical and befitting a building of such history. Moving beyond this, I found Le Squer's style and the product on the table to almost serve a bridge between past and present - a classic approach that is not afraid to have a little fun and serious dining with just a touch of whimsy. read more

And that's why this 3 Michelin gets 3 yelp star rating because what the food lacks they make up with service & attention to detail. We went to Alleno/ Ledoyen last year for a 4 course lunch . Our first course was was a mish-mash of avacado, celeri & cheese that totally failed to impress. In fact I didn't finish it. Second course was cod fish which was well done but nothing spectacular. Third course was quail on a bed of pastry like base; that was probably the best course followed by dessert. They give you small tastings & chocolates in between meals like most top notch restaurants do (love it!). Overall it was a good experience, considering we got to meet & chat with chef Yannick Alleno, a well known name in Paris' culinary circle. Like I said in my previous review, I don't quite understand the Michelin concept because, based on food alone, this place does not deserve 3 Michelin stars. read more

After speaking with some others regarding my experience and after my wife spoke with a food blogger who is familiar with Mons. Christian Le Squer, i was surprised to find out that many others have had some of the same experiences of price gouging, purposely not offering tap water to tourists, general lack of service befitting of a 3 Michelin Star establishment... the list goes on. I'm lowering my rating because the chef/owner is actually aware of these issues and has not yet addressed them. read more

It is hard to describe this fine restaurant and do the Pavillon Ledoyen any justice. I did see many restaurants around the world. The dining experience I have had here was one of the finest ones. The kitchen is stunning and breathtaking; the service is private, warm and friendly. You feel looked after when you enjoy the great food. For me a really stellar experience. read more

I came to Ledoyen for lunch based on a friends recommendation and it's stellar reputation. The lunch menu is a bit more reasonably priced and I didn't need a 3hr meal. It was excellent. The sauces were amazing and what really made all the dishes work. Highlights were the avocado millefeuille, scallops with spinach, chicken with ginger and truffle, 1000 year old egg porridge. After doing my homework on places to eat in Paris, I settled on Ledoyen and L'arperge. Unfortunately I did not make it to L'arperge (but that's a story for another day) but was lucky enough to make it to Ledoyen in May 2013. I initially made a reservation for the party I was travelling with (6 in total) but had to revise it to just 2 (my mom and myself) and change the lunch time. Not a problem! The lady who answered my call was very accommodating and even thank me for informing them in advance. Arrived there and was stunned by the magnificence of the building. Unfortunately I did not have time to peruse the architecture (rush rush rush) but was greeted through the door. The lady at the door took my mom and my coat and shopping bags and passed us on to another person who took up upstairs this big staircase. We were then shown into a longish dining room, where some tables were already occupied. I was simply overwhelmed and very nervous not wanting to totally embarrass myself in a 3 star Michelin restaurant. I tried my best high school french and our waiter was thankfully very kind and gamely went along (even after I had to finally start using english). We were given our lunch menus, which I had booked us in for. As the lunch experience happened quite a few months ago, I'll try to be as accurate as possible. We were served with plate containing a small wooden spoon with a gelee like bubble, each. Into my mouth it went, and had an interesting citrusy taste to it. We were then served with a plate with some delicate sesame spring roll-like with fresh vegetable filling, i think a foie gras ball with a coating (but I'm just guessing), a a small wafer thin crisp with I think wakamame (damn u memory!) each. We then received a tray with two crisps each, one sesame seed and i think a rice like crisp. Somewhere in between being served the above, we ordered our selections for an entre, main and dessert and ordered a rosé each. We then received an amusé bouche which I think was a beef soup with some peas and some bits of mince meat and clear noodles. The presentation was beautiful but the soup did make my eyes water a little bit from the saltiness. My mom's entree, funghi aka mushroom topped with water cress and shavings of some cheese came out while my eel gelee on top of beetroot came to me. I could not have enough of the eel entree. While my mom's entree's mushrooms were fresh and delicately prepared, my entree made me extremely happy with my choice. I remember feeling happy and making a mental note to come back if ever I was back in the city. After being fussed about by our waiter, we greedily accepted freshly baked rolls, sooooo delicious. Mom's main was a turbot which though beautifully cooked, was nothing to shout about. Again, my choice triumped my mom's. A steak perfectly grilled with home-made ketchup (our waiter assured me it was good and boy was it!) with little pastry ball that revealed horseradish in it. The steak was buttery goodness which melted in my mouth. I shared my steak with my mom who agreed that the steak was the clear winner. I remember some sort of scallop like thingy on the dish but can't recall exactly now. We then received a plate of meringue with toppings, including an extremely sour but refreshing passion thingy. Yay! The pistachio macaron was woeful tho, painfully dense and uninspired. There was some whiteish ball thing too but I don't recall the taste. Then the most monstrous tray of cheeses was presented to us. I don't like cheese but was recommended to try an offering of the 26 (?) different cheeses. It was nice as a small serve but I was not hungry for more and was happy with what I picked. My mom's chocolate log came out and yes it was nice and decadent. My very very pink dessert of berries and some meringue like thingy came to me. I was not a fan of the dessert as it was too sweet (perhaps purposely to counter the tartness of the berries?). I don't know. All in all a very wonderful experience. $125 euro per head (i think) was a wonderful introduction to the exclusive 3 star michelin club. I will definitely be returning the next time to sample the dinner offerings. Ledoyen's service was faultless. The attending waiters were very generous with their time and patiently answered any questions we had. Do note that the aperitiv's and tea/coffee is not part of the lunch menu prix fixe aka set menu. read more

We went last month and my wife and I are still talking about it. We could have gone to any 3 star Mich restaurant but wanted to go to a standalone place rather than a hotel. It was the right call. The experience was on a par or superior to our visits to other similar venues. Expect creative dishes and impeccable service. The wine list is encyclopedic. Better now your stuff if you want to choose a good wine that will not break the credit card! They did have a few reasonable choices. We usually order a Port at the end of dinner and the Som brought a huge bottle ( Jeroboam?) to the table and dispensed it with a large pipelle! Never seen that. Highly recommended. read more

AMAZING!!!!!! This is not a drop in place. The food was exquisite, as well as the service! The building itself is quite beautiful as well. We went for lunch and had the lunch tasting menu. Lunch lasted over three hours, but it seemed to fly by. I suggest the wine pairing to have with your food. Make sure you make a reservation, dress nice (sport coat, shirt, and pants), and bring an appetite. The staff are very friendly and speak English very well. They are attentive, yet relaxed. I think they enjoyed watching us enjoy our meal as much as we did. The price is very steep, but for this quality it is well worth it. If you're coming to Paris for a special occasion, treat yourself! read more

Got the tasting menu for dinner. Horrible service water and tea left empty for a while. When my tea was done they didn't ask if I wanted another just took it away. Server bumped into me running to re fold someone from another tables handkerchief. The food was disappointing just to cap it all off. We spent three hours here having the most magnificent lunch. The service was amazing. The food was excellent and a nice departure from the norm. They had excellent wine and champagne by the glass as my husband drinks beer. We splurged a little by sharing three different appetizers with our entrées and two different desserts. This review comes from the heart, because my husband and I truly felt ripped off after this dining experience. I don't want anyone else to have the same experience we did. This was the worst Michelin starred restaurant that my husband and I have ever dined at. Honestly, it was such an awful experience that we can't comprehend how this restaurant has any affiliation with the Michelin Guide (in terms of the food, service and cleanliness). We went to a McDonalds close to our hotel afterwards as we were still hungry and had a much more satisfying meal there (we rarely eat fast food). It was such a disappointing experience as we came to Paris to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were so excited to eat here. We quickly realized that this restaurant was nothing like some of the other amazing Michelin starred restaurants we have experienced before (such as The Fat Duck in England and Per Se in NYC and many others)...I couldn't swallow some of the food because the taste was so off-putting. I told our waiter nicely that one of my items was swimming in oil and that I couldn't eat it, and the waiter didn't apologize or offer anything else. He made me feel like an idiot and was very rude about the whole situation. I heard our waiter gossiping and giggling to some of the other waiters whilst looking at our table. I didn't eat the last few courses because every dish that was served was disgusting (I am not a picky eater and usually love many different types of foods). The bread and butter served was very good, thank goodness for the bread and butter! Overall the waitstaff was very rude and not accommodating at all. There was a huge grasshopper-like bug on a lampshade right beside our table, we notified the waitstaff about this and they didn't seem to think it was a big deal that a big bug was circling our table as we ate dinner. The staff took a crumb cleaner and poked the bug and walked away. The bug quickly came back and was beside us for the entire duration of our dinner. Run as fast as you can and don't make a reservation here. Spend your money elsewhere... read more

To put things in perspective, the lunch bill was 1,850 euros for the 4 of us (400 euros for wine, 1,450 for the food). A price tag to be expected. And yet, as our taxi pulled into the little alley leading to the door of this grand pavillon, something felt wrong. Was it the doorman who was wearing an untailored uniform? Was it the overgrown lawn, or the weeds along the little path? Or maybe the column with their faux painting, chipping in many parts? As we entered and moved to the next floor, led by the hostess, I could not help but noticing the worn carpet, torn here and there, and the little nicks on the walls. That day, the grand Parisian Dame looked tired... The service too needed some refreshing. The over-confident French maitre d' and his casual demeanor, grabbed by the hand the jacket of a guest to look at his lapel. The front server/captain seemed more interested in deciding what we should order, rather than to answer our questions, and in his mediterranean accent said: "I know what you do, you order all appetizers and share"... Really? Bonjour l'elegance! The support staff was not better: most of the time, when the food was brought to the table our questions related to the dishes were vaguely answered.. Twice the plates were served to the wrong person. When going to the restroom, no one was there to refold or refresh the napkin of guests. Used silverware was removed from the table without a tray by the maitre d' himself, and when adding kinves or forks on the table, you were lucky not to be elbowed.The list could go on, but I will spare you the details of the mediocre service. I would, however, give credit to the young French sommelier, very courteous and knowledgable. The bread was an indication of what the food would be: not the best! I will simply say that the chef (no capital "c" here), is very confused. If I sometimes welcome "explosions of flavors", I hate over extraction and conflicting ingredients. We all had to scrape the sauce poured over the Wagu for instense, a tar of sort, reduced so much by the saucier, that the saltiness ruined the delicacy of the beef. The desserts were uninspired, the presentation so minimalist that it seemed a debutant was in charge of the pastry department... At some point we were invited to the terrasse by the maitre d', to allow the staff to reset the dinig room for dinner. And there, things went as the started: the ivy in the tired planters were dying. Probably caught them on an off day. Did lunch while on a gastrocrawl through Paris and Lyon. Beautiful formal dining space - could easily be viewed as stuffy and hush hush temple-like too. Chose the lunch prix fixe. Forgettable amuse. First dish we nicknamed "the lump" consisted of spiraled coconut meat wrapped around avocado in layers - soft on soft texture and just fell flat on the palate. I ate the whole lump looking for something but alas there was nothing - wife took a few bites and tried to spread it out to look like she ate some more of it. Truly this was a regrettable dish. The next dish a slow cooked duck breast covered with a flavorful buttery creamy sauce was super. Next an al dente cooked rice dish finished at tableside in a steaming stone mortar with some sea creatures said to be asian inspired was back on the lump track - flavorless. Desserts were beautiful constructions but lesser joy on the palate. Anyway I hate to be negative but just as we did somebody will be looking here to triangulate their 3 star Paris experience choice. We looked here and saw nothing but praise but as I opened I guess 3 stars can have bad days too. read more
