On a Saturday afternoon I took the bike to Bicycle Center with the hope I could pick it up Monday so my wife and I could continue our busy biking plans for the week. I was met at the back door and immediately ushered in when Sean, the owner, asked what was the problem. Bottom line: Sean took out a 3-Allen wrench tool and fixed the problem in 30 seconds, no charge! How professional and nice was that!! Before relocating to Arizona I had taken my bikes to Bicycle Center for 10 years and gotten excellent service at competitive pricing. Their selection of equipment and clothing is superb, high quality, reasonable priced. Bev, one of the owners, specializes in clothing and is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. She will give a fair assessment of any item you wish to purchase. We take her advice as gospel and are never disappointed. If there is an issue in the near future with a purchase, she is reasonable in managing the situation. I needed repairs on my bike, so I came by on a random weekend and the staff gave me no issues. They were upfront about the price, and potential work it needed. They said they would call me to let me know if anything beyond what I approved needed to be done. I had no appointment, but they texted me within a few days to say that the work had been done and my bike was ready for pick up. They were able to repair my bike without having the replace any parts, and they just charged me for the labor (which was a very fair rate). Overall a very smooth experience. I watched the staff interact with regulars, and it seems like they have a solid customer base. The co-founder -- who seems to be the face of the business -- is consistently rude, dismissive, and lacks basic customer service skills. Today was the final straw. I came to pick up my bike after clearly telling their service rep I'd be in on Wednesday or Thursday. Instead of being helpful, I was met with attitude for not "calling ahead." I'm sorry, but I gave a window -- and you're closed Sunday -- so maybe don't take it out on your customers. Previously, she left me standing outside even though it was one minute before opening. Another time, she snapped at me for wanting to load my bike into the car before paying -- as if helping a customer ensure the product fits isn't part of the job. As soon as I brought it in, they immediately identified an uneven saddle that I hadn't realized (which turned out to be a cracked rail) in addition to a badly worn chain (which I did suspect). They're a great shop, they know what they're doing, and they stock all kinds of stuff. Tony, in particular, has gone above and beyond the call of duty in helping us out, whether it was to get me a 650b wheel before a big ride day, or taking the time to explain things to my 12-year-old who was doing his first teardown/restoration of an old steel kids' road bike.
