Not only was the tour a value (it included bikes, helmets, wine tastings, lunch, non-alcoholic drinks, and snacks) but also Tom, the owner, and his team were very accommodating to our strict schedule (we had come in from the City). He worked with us every step of the way and was very responsive. The tour was lovely and even paced. The wine was good (I got two bottles). We got personal attention and even a car to accompany us throughout the tour. We all really enjoyed the experience. Good wine, a nice relaxing bike ride, and great customer service. You can't go wrong.

Our guide was professional, considerate and sensitive, mindful that Mom (me) had not biked in ten years. The roads traveled were absolutely beautiful, off the beaten path, so we got to enjoy scenery and neighborhoods that we otherwise would never get to see. The wineries were fun, the catered lunch was delicious, and the experience was awesome! Another bike tour is certainly in our future...

I stumbled upon this company by some sort of search engine hijinks...I had typed in "Velofix" and…read morethe first entry to pop up on Google was "Velotooler" and the spelling was similar enough that I clicked on it carelessly while doing something else, and then I stupidly assumed that Velofix must have renamed itself. Boy, what a mistake that was. The website looks good, there is a nationwide map showing where the mechanics are available, and I found one within 15 minutes of the suburb of Boston where I live. I was pleasantly surprised to find that as per website, said mechanic was available within just 3 days (Velofix has much longer wait times, can be 1-2 weeks on average) and the service (tune up of an e-bike) was actually $30 cheaper than what Velofix wanted. Wonderful! Or so I thought. Alas, that's about where the "wonderful" part ends. First off, the damned website is glitchy as all hell---after I create an account and submit all my details (address and CC info), I hit the "Pay" button...and nothing happens. So I double-check that all my adblocking browser extensions are turned off, reload the website, and do everything all over again. Same result. Over and over again. I even try using a different browser (Chrome) and again, no luck. So I hit the "Chat" button to get help from Velotooler. Got a live person after about 30 minutes, during which time I had left my computer, so we proceeded to play chat-tag for a couple rounds. She later sent me an email follow up the next day: said sorry, but I needed to first use their "Add payment" link on my account before placing the order. Which I did, but the same thing happened...screwy website took all my info, then on the last page where there was a final "Add payment" button, again nothing happened upon clicking. At this point, Velotooler's "help" person who had been helping me simply ghosted. Now mind you, I had been totally civil and polite the whole time, never cursing, blaming her for the problem, or personalizing it. Lo and behold, I suddenly had an idea...why not try the god awful Microsoft Edge browser! And so I did, for the perhaps second time since it was foisted upon my PC. And praise da good lawdy lawd, it finally worked...payment info was finally accepted, and the work order finally went through---just "pending confirmation" from the mechanic. Problem is, a full 24 hours later, my requested appointment date/time had still not been "confirmed" by the mechanic. I sent a further chat request for help. No response, not even an acknowledgement of receipt. Another half day later, I get an email notification from Velotooler that my appointment had been cancelled and that my credit card would be refunded. With zero explanation, apology, and or any actual human response from any Velotooler support staff. Ergo, it's clear to me that Velotooler is just not ready for prime time yet. They are obviously a half-baked amateur operation, probably understaffed and underpaid, and the staff clearly under-trained. And the website designer should get a good hard kick in the ass right out the door. I'm going back to Velofix, even if I have to wait a whole week for the next available appointment and pay a little extra dough. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is that they did issue a prompt refund (will have to check my credit card to make sure it does go through, my confidence in these people is pretty low as you can imagine).

I've used the mahopac bike shop on and off for over 10 years now. I've had repairs, tune ups, and bought bikes from here. Their prices on new bikes are usually hundreds cheaper than MSRP while competing shops usually charge full retail. I have always been treated well. I never had to sweat the details because Doug and Tim do. Little things like changing the headset cap screw so it was flush when I changed my stem and headset cap or changing headset spacers to match the color of my bike and not charging me extra when I brought my bike in for a tune up. They are not just a bike shop but ambassadors of cycling. They have weekly bike rides out of both stores and during winter months they have trainer sessions for free. Just bring your bike, they set up the trainers and have a projector tv for videos. They also have a race team/ cycling club. They provide support to area races and organized rides and the race team/ club members volunteers their time to help with course setup and support. They also offer bike fitting services too. Which I totally recommend if you start to ride more than hour at a time, especially if you want to ride faster and further. It will help you become more efficient and less prone to injury. I don't know who the bad reviewers dealt with but Doug and Tim are polite and courteous. Although I think Tim would rather wrench on bikes than deal with customers, but I that's typically all mechanics. read more

I spent two months researching the types of bikes available that would be best suited to me based on my interests and a physical limitation. I visited four bike shops in Fairfield and Rockland counties. I chose to purchase from Bikeway in Mahopac, because of Doug. I was greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner, my simple questions were answered without making me feel foolish, questions more specific to my needs, he researched. Not being able to manipulate controls with my left hand ment two things, start with the right bike but most importantly the right person to set it up. My choice of a Specialized Crosstrail was the fun part, working with Doug the easiest. His interest and knowledge gave me immediate confidence. His choice of controls and their placement are safe and most functional. I expected there would be an up-charge for this custom work, there was none. The guy doesn't know what a short is. Doh! Incompetent Poor and rude customer service A no go.

My first interaction was when I needed a yoga ball inflated, which they did quickly at no charge. I then brought my bikes in for tuning - they did a great job, gave me far more detail about the status of my bikes than two other shops I've frequented in the past, and charged less money for the tune-ups. They were honest, polite and friendly folks who did a great job. When I bought two new yoga balls, they inflated them both - for free, again. Very happy with the service of this local family-owned business. Please give them a try!

This evening, we attempted to drop off my husband's eBike for a flat tire repair. When we arrived, we were told we could not use the rear parking space to quickly unload the bike, despite the fact that no one was there and it would have taken less than a minute. A staff member, who was outside smoking and behaving rudely, insisted we park further down their narrow street because "100 kids on bikes were about to arrive." We explained that we were longtime customers simply trying to drop the bike off and would move the car immediately afterward. Instead of showing any understanding, he dismissed us entirely, stated he was "on break," ignored our request to speak with the manager (who might have recognized us), and made no effort to help. When we asked again for reasonable accommodation, we were met with more disrespect, and eventually, a deeply inappropriate and insulting comment was directed at me personally. When the manager finally appeared, he acknowledged that bikes were expected to return but made no attempt to de-escalate the situation or address his employee's behavior. He then walked away and offered no help. In the several minutes we were there, no bikes or riders showed up. And rather than provide assistance, they chose instead to block the lot with cones after we moved our car. What could have been a quick and courteous interaction turned into an unnecessarily hostile one. Respect and professionalism matter, and this business lost ours today.

On a Saturday afternoon I took the bike to Bicycle Center with the hope I could pick it up Monday so my wife and I could continue our busy biking plans for the week. I was met at the back door and immediately ushered in when Sean, the owner, asked what was the problem. Bottom line: Sean took out a 3-Allen wrench tool and fixed the problem in 30 seconds, no charge! How professional and nice was that!! Before relocating to Arizona I had taken my bikes to Bicycle Center for 10 years and gotten excellent service at competitive pricing. George then checked the stock at other Bikeway locations and found an option he felt confident I would like. He called Ethan at the Montgomery location and had them hold the bike for me to try. Ethan was friendly, helpful, and didn't make me feel pressured to buy something out of my budget. I loved the bike that was put on hold for me. The shop was busy but I felt I had lots of personalized attention and service. The team set up the handlebars and seat so it would be comfy for me to ride. They even swapped out the pedals to my preferred option and added a water bottle cage for no cost! Overall, really great experience for someone who's pretty new to biking. I will be back for accessories, tune-ups, and future bike purchases. Thank you, Bikeway!

Sadly, I can not rely on Bikeway off 17k as my LBS…read more I took my old hoopdie to get a tune up. Staff who received my was very friendly. I said I wanted the bare minimum just to make my bike safe and was quoted at $55 for a tune up and $8/tube front and back. I asked if he thought my tires needed to be replaced and he implied he did not think so and the mechanic would check them out. I then requested to be notified if anything was discovered. As I was handing my bike off, I felt the saddle slide back and forth on the rails. I said, "Oh this has been slipping - will you ask the mechanic to check that out?" He implied it was not a problem and I was told something like 10-14 days. No biggie - it's my cheapo. I was notified the bike was ready (well before 10 days - a pleasant surprise) by text saying I could pick it up and the total was $114. Since it was a text I figured I'd inquire about the amount when I went to pick it up. When I arrived and was handed the bike back, I asked how we got to our final number and was told it was for the "nimbus" and then about the formerly undisclosed fee to replace a tube (in addition to the cost of the tube), and that I got a good deal because usually the tune up is $75... but I have a single speed. I quickly determined the Nimbus is the name of the nice quality front tire they put on without informing me. As I was handed the bike, the saddle slid back and forth - an original issue. I asked why it had not been addressed and was told "it's not on the work order" with a shrug. He then politely informed me "maybe it's old" and that they, right there at the bike shop, could sell me a new seat post or a new saddle (starting at about $35!) By now I was getting a bit steamed under my mask, if you know what I mean, and decided to get rolled on this one, having endured such apparent disinterest for helping me in any substantial way. When I got home I noticed my right pedal had a broken section (cheap pedals for cheap bike and I'm sure I did not notice previously because I hadn't been using the bike for a few years). So I'm left with some questions. What business changes the terms of service without informing the customer before proceeding and sells them a product prior to consent? What mechanic works on a bike and does not note: An old chain (I asked for the bike to be "safe" And suspect an old chain is the reason it keeps jumping off the sprocket); A partially broken pedal on the drive side; and A saddle that is not clamped down by the saddle clamp, and therefore slides freely back and forth whenever touched or ridden? I tested a fat bike on a past visit. I bought some pedals for my mountain bike and was given a set screw for my clipless pedal cleats gratis from the congenial staff. My honest take is Bikeway is a place to purchase some top-tier fat bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes. They have a slew of multi-thousand dollar options for you. If you require the service of a local bike shop employing one or more bike mechanics who service bicycles AND happens to sell them as well, you'll want to take a ride somewhere else. Oh, I just fixed my saddle clamp, prompting me to write this review. It took twenty seconds labor, a pair of robopliers, a hammer and the big rock in the yard. I just wish I had $114 to add some tools to my budding bike tool box.

While were there, My husband fell in love with a Specialized bike. Michael showed him a few different ones, all with excellent customer care and service. My husband bought his bike yesterday, and in the past 24 hours has ridden 40 miles (This is a guy who was never a cyclist before!). The gentlemen were helpful and friendly, offering suggestions on where we should ride as well as places to avoid. We ended up going back later in the day to buy cycling shorts and a lock. We are already getting such enjoyment from our new bicycles. Thanks for a great experience!

I was riding with a friend and he had an emergency issue and needed a pump so we stopped in. The…read moreowner sarcastically said he could use the pump for $5. We thought he was kidding. He repeated that he wasn't kidding about 5 times and lectured us on how he has to put food on the table and was incredibly condescending. We ended up leaving because neither of us had $5 and his attitude was horrible. We all work to support the small businesses of our towns, even when it sometimes costs us more. That's the spirit of a small town. To let my friend use the pump for less than a minute would have cost him nothing and we would have remembered it. Instead, his incredibly rude attitude made sure that neither of us will ever buy a bike from him we will definitely go out of our way to never service a bike with him or buy any supplies. And we will advise others to not go to him. There are other small bike businesses in the area that know how to treat people respectably and I'll gladly spend my money there.

Then gave us a verbal estimate of $750 to destroy our boat which then turned into a written estimate of $1700. When we said forget it they then told us they would start charging us storage charges of $36 a day!! Run far and run fast.
