I have to thank Paws and especially Penny's wonderful foster family for making the adoption process so nice! This rescue is amazing, they truly care for these animals and want them to find good homes! Penny is turning 4 this month we got her at 2years old. She has enriched our lives and we love her so much!

    My beautiful Cleo! Thanks PAWS!

Wow...reading the latest reviews I can see some things never change. So many entitled potential adopters who are super salty because the animal they wanted wasn't deemed to be a good fit for them feeling the need to rush over to Yelp to tell on themselves. They just HAVE to show the world how right PAWS was for not giving them an animal. Guess what? If you aren't a complete narcissist and you care about animals, you won't have a problem getting matched with a pet. It might take some time, but you will. Also what's up with a woman being mad because the staff had to go eat lunch?! That's crazy! The audacity to even suggest that it's rude to ask people to leave so the staff can lock up for their earned lunch hour is staggering... Anyone complaining about their child crying because they couldn't get the cat they wanted... how about you try making this a teachable moment? In life places don't always give you what you want, and here they deny things for good reason. You're children sound far too immature to have a pet frankly. They certainly shouldn't be at the helm of any decision regarding them. These animals are actually lives who unique needs need to be considered. Gah! PAWS staff and volunteers put A LOT of work in matching adopters with animals that are right for them. You would be shocked by how many of these same entitled nitwits end up returning animals because it wasn't the fit they expected ... it hurts the animals a lot and makes it more difficult getting them settled in with another family. Returns are on the rise because a lot of these chuckleheads went out and adopted animals during the COVID lockdowns without putting ANY thought into how much responsibility it is to care for an animal... just unbelievable!!! So if you are a self important idiot who can't appreciate the work these individuals put in to ensure animals are placed in their best possible scenarios, then you should go somewhere with lower standards. Wayyyyyy lower standards. Then you might just have a chance. I am thankful for the good work that they do at PAWS. I am grateful they gave me my beautiful love Sophia, and I'm grateful that when she passed away they blessed me with my beautiful Cleo. In fact they saved Cleo's life because she needed immediate surgery and was near death when they found her and took her in. She barely made it and her life was saved because PAWS are that good at ensuring animals have the best care they can provide. PAWS made it possible for Cleo to be peacefully sleeping on my belly as I type this right now. But yeah dummies, tell us all how PAWS doesn't care about their animals and how much better of a job you and your feral children would do if you ran it. So stupid... just ridiculously stupid. PS Bet you none of these audacious creeps EVER volunteer at shelters or even round up their change to help animals in need.

I can't say enough good things about PAWS! They made my adoption process so amazing as a first time pet-owner. I moved down to San Diego from Northern California three weeks ago and was looking to adopt a cat to be my full-time companion as my partner works long shifts at the hospital and I WFH. PAWS was only the second shelter we visited and the difference in atmosphere at PAWS vs. the first shelter we visited was like night and day! When we visited, I was able to play with the cats in their sanctuary. I enjoyed playing with the cats but was still waiting to feel that true connection to one. The extremely nice manager let me know there was a cat that had just arrived to the shelter the night before. She took us to his crate where I met "Tailor" and immediately fell in love. My partner and I were head over heels for this cat and ready start the adoption process! The manager let us know that "Tailor" wasn't up for adoption for at least 3 days to allow time for "Tailor's" potential owner to come get him. The manager was extremely helpful and took down my information letting me know that if no one claims him after that 3-day period, the adoption coordinator would reach out to me. On the way home from the shelter I filled out an application and anxiously waited for an email response. On day 3 I got an email from Amy saying after many many calls trying to reconnect "Tailor" with his owner, we were the first ones in line to adopt this special cat!!! The next day I picked up my handsome kitty and took him back to his fur-ever home. Thank you to ALL of the sweet employees at PAWS of Coronado for not only the most amazing cat in the world, but for being so sweet to me and providing such a special experience to my partner and I. Two of the employees even went to the sanctuary to say goodbye to "Tailor" and let me know that in just the 3 days he had been there, he'd been the sweetest kitty ever!!! "Tailor" is now our sweet Chowder and we are so in love with him. I've since recommended many of my friends to PAWS and hope that if you're reading this, you have the same experience as I did.

Recently adopted my little Bob from this lovely place!! He's the sweetest boy and I can tell he was perfectly taken care of. I was provided some food for him to take home. I happen to go on a day of an open house and boy was this meant to be!! Thank you for all your attention and care to my little one. Hopefully soon I'll be able to go back and adopt another little gem. Everyone was very helpful and kind.

This place is caring and compassionate and puts animals' interests first and foremost. They carefully evaluate an animal's temperament and needs to adopter's temperament, needs, and environment. They want to make sure that the dog/cat they adopt out truly meets their human soul mate that will love them and give them the best life. They have the most amazing staff that love on the animals and always think of ways to enrich their lives in the shelter. They also offer after-adoption support and advice because they are truly committed to making each adoption a success.

I read a few of the reviews here so I wanted to put mine in to add to the perspective. I understand that some people are upset that they didn't get the pet that they wanted because it wasn't a good fit. Potential owners should understand that the people who run the shelter are just doing their jobs. They want to ensure that the pets are going to live in their forever homes. It makes zero sense if a pet is adopted and shortly after the pet is brought back because it wasn't a good fit. It's not fair to the pet so they're saving them from being put in a home that isn't going to work. That being said, I wanted to say how much I appreciate the care and assistance that I received when adopting Cloud and Windy (now Bentley and Gracie) who are two wonderful kittens that are a bonded pair. I was looking for a couple of kittens just like this so it worked out very well. They're settling in to their new home, adjusting very well, getting in lots of play time and I'm doing my best to keep their food and water bowls filled. Thanks go out to Erin who was helping out as she did a great job with getting everything in order with the adoption paperwork and paying the fee. I really like the fact that they're not charging a *huge* sum of money, some of the other organizations/facilities here in town are charging anywhere from $150 to $250 for an adoption. I can see how someone might take advantage of this and try to make profit which is pretty horrible to say the least. So, to wrap this up, I think that Paws of Coronado is doing an outstanding job during this time of Covid and hope that others will be able to adopt a pet in the near future. Thanks again. Cheers! Matt

I've heard about some Veterinarians who tend to pad their bills with extra services and items, but until this visit I hadn't really experienced it. We brought our older (and basically healthy) dog in today because she was sick on Thursday (vomiting food & water). She felt better on Friday and today, but we brought her in anyway to get checked out. Cue the huge bill! The original estimate on the high side was $1300, and we had them lower that estimate by a few $100 by removing a couple of services including xrays. Then after she'd been there for a few hours, they indicated that she needed more tests to the tune of nearly $1000. We had them do most of them, but not all. As I'm writing this on Sunday, Cali is feeling much better, she's now on a low-fat diet, and the tests that they did all turned out negative. (We're still waiting on the results of the urinalysis.) Thank goodness, but jeez... They also negatively impacted my bank account. I'm glad my dog is feeling better, and she's worth any cost honestly, but I sincerely feel that some of things they did were not necessary, and didn't need to be done this time, or could have been pushed forward and a determination about their necessity could've been made after we made some changes and monitored her. It is what it is at this point, but I just suggest that you pay close attention to the estimates and bills at this Vet Hospital, and knowing your pet, make the right decisions for them, whatever they may be. Over the…read moremany hours dealing with my own dog I've watched, seen, spoke to countless other patients and of course the Vets and staff. It's a large practice with ER Vets without ER prices. This is going to be a long review. My dog had an autoimmune disease that makes his body attack platelets. Basically without them you're going to die. Steroids and other immune suppressants are given in high doses which suppresses the immune system and can result in infections. My dog ended up one day collapsing out of the blue, no warning, no swelling the night before, and now a massive arm overnight. We rushed him down and it was a septic staph infection. A septic staph infection without a functioning and highly supressedimmune system in a 12 year old dog. Over two days Buddy's arm was drained and flushed under general anesthesia as subsequent infection pockets popped up . A culture was taken but we wouldn't know the results for days. Two broad spectrum antibiotics were picked from their experience and what they were seeing, a highly educated assumption of what would most likely work with the infection. Well, one of them was the correct choice and my dog that would most likely die didn't die. I might add that there ended up only being a few medication that the infection was susceptible to, and they picked again the right one. My dog at this point was very high risk after everything that happened to him especially due to his long term high dose Prednsione use that had deteriorated his body. He was a shell of the dog he use to be and had even gotten steroid induced Cushings. I couldn't put him through the steroids anymore and after the infection had subsided his platelets started to rapidly decrease again. B Street granted him his only chance of survival, a splenectomy. He not only made it through the surgery but immediately went in to remission. Since NOV 8th he has had a platelet count above 600k. Because Buddy is Buddy his liver enzymes went through the roof post splenectomy (hospitalization levels) and they chose the perfect concoction of medications including Urdosoil, mik thistle, and NAC which worked. His enzymes were so high it took nearly a month to get out of the severe danger zone, but he did. Four months later they are on the high end of normal with two still decreasing but of no worry. Dr. V at last recheck called them "boring", I like boring test results. Staff: every single person is not only excessively talented but good people. I'm not naming people because there are too many that are phenomenal and I feel like I will leave someone out and feel bad about it. I'm not a sunshine and rainbows person, I'm generally pretty negative (something I'm working on). This place is the only place I trust, that's it. A few reviews mention wait times. I never see this talked about...B Street is a trauma center with non-trauma prices, actually incredible prices. They are great with every day worries and treat animals with gastrointestinal, skin issues, normal every day concerns but if a dog or cat had a seizure, hit by a car, not able to breathe, etc. it's all hands on deck and that dog or cat is rushed in. This isn't a "normal" Vet this is where you go if you are okay with waiting and want your dog or cat to have the best care they possibly can have. I know going in there that I'm going to most likely wait and with every incredible thing I've seen here I will wait as long as I need to. Starbucks down the street is my best friend and I've worked in the Vet's office with my laptop countless times. People go here because they know how great the Vets are, the staff, just everything. I also saw a post where someone said they didn't spend time with the Vet. I don't get this unless you're expecting a 30 minute conversation about a routine everyday issue. I understand that everyone has likes when dealing with a Vet and if you want that private room, with the in depth conversations about basic things, where there are two dogs in the lobby, this place may not be for you. While I personally like all those things myself I would rather go to the place where they have the best vets and staff in SD who can handle everything from basic to emergency and don't miss things like they do at other Vets. If I haven't mentioned this yet they are open 7 days a week and on most holidays as well. If your dog needs surgery, a second opinion, has standard needs, or you're ready to move Vets check out B street. These aren't just my opinions, I've spoken to countless others with dogs and cats who feel the same way I do. They won't go anywhere else.
