Over the years, she has consistently shown how caring, professional, and knowledgeable she is. Anytime my babies are not feeling well, I know they are in the best hands, and she always makes sure they are back to their happy, healthy selves. What really says everything is that when I tell Mickey and Lulu we are going to the vet, they get excited. They truly love going. That speaks volumes about the kind of environment Dr. Bocanegra and her team have created. Her entire staff is wonderful, kind, and attentive. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a veterinarian who will treat your pets like family. Honestly, if I could have her as my own doctor, I would!

After months of consideration, I finally made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize my two…read more15-year-old dogs due to severe cognitive decline. They were confused, frightened, incontinent, pacing in circles, getting stuck, unable to recognize names, eat independently, or maintain any potty training. I had to hand-feed them. They were not living with peace or dignity. At an initial visit, Dr. Sanchez authorized euthanasia for only one dog and recommended lab work for the other. Later that same day, I was informed that one dog had extremely elevated liver values, likely liver cancer. She said we'd need an ultrasound to confirm but I declined given their age, condition, and constant distress. She offered medications to lower ammonia levels, but I declined because it would give my dog diarrhea, they were already stepping in their poop because of their confusion, I didn't want to make it worse or make them more uncomfortable. Two weeks later, I scheduled euthanasia. Thirty minutes before the appointment, I was told another quality-of-life exam was required by a different doctor and that I would be charged again. After pushing back, the manager agreed to waive the additional fee. Our appointment was at 11:00 AM. The doctor did not enter the room until after 12:00 PM. He did not introduce himself, acknowledge us, or acknowledge my dogs. He immediately went to the computer and typed silently for 20-30 minutes while my dogs paced in circles on the floor. When he finally spoke, he made dismissive comments about owners wanting to "put pets down" while veterinary medicine wants to "throw medications at them." When I explained I had tried all recommended treatments and that my dog was actively circling in distress, he said he would only consider euthanasia if the animal was "dying right in front of him." He said "well maybe if she was going in circles 24/7..." to which I replied, "Why would I wait that long? Why would I wait until it got to that point?" When I questioned why we were made to wait over an hour if he had already decided not to proceed, he began yelling at me and my family. He spoke over us repeatedly, raised his voice, leaned over the exam table to yell closer to our faces, and became increasingly aggressive. He suggested I go to a shelter or county clinic "where they don't ask questions." He never examined my second dog. I am a registered nurse who works in the ICU. I understand medicine. I understand suffering. I told him that I could never imagine yelling at patients or families the way he was yelling at me during such a vulnerable moment. He continued yelling anyway. He ultimately opened the door, shouted that we should be angry at the front office staff, and slammed the door as he left. My dogs were crying in fear. I was crying. This was one of the most painful days of my life, and instead of compassion, we were met with hostility and intimidation. I asked to speak to a manager. I was told one would call me. That call never came. Please consider another clinic. After 15 years of loving my dogs, they deserved dignity, compassion, and humane care -- and this clinic failed us completely.

TLDR: I won't be bringing my dog back here. They dropped the ball on things that have been standard…read moreat other vets I've been to. I've brought my dog here twice, once for a wellness exam and the other for a vaccine. The first time I think I waited about 30 minutes since the vet was in surgery according to the front desk, which is fine, except it felt like our appointment was super rushed. He quickly looked at my pup and was about to end the visit before I asked if we could get labs done and ask him a few questions about my concerns. He didn't once ask me if I had any concerns, just said she looked good. I thought it was strange that he didn't suggest labs considering she was a new patient. My dog was 10 years old at the time, so labs should have been suggested considering she is a senior. Anyways, they ended up giving me a discount because of the wait. However I don't think that should have meant a discount in quality of care too? My biggest gripe is the lack of communication. Every vet I've taken my dog to has given me an update when labs come back (typically through a message in the online portal), even if they're all good, and the labs are quickly uploaded onto the online portal so I can see it. Sunshine vet has an online portal that they seem to not use. After waiting 2 weeks after getting my dogs labs done, I hadn't heard from the doctor so I had to call and ask for the results. Additionally, the doctors notes were not uploaded or given to me, so I called for that a few months after the visit and although it had been months, they did not have the notes on hand. I ended up having to ask again a few days later before they sent them to me. That also does not give me confidence in them since they don't have their patient's records readily available. Another huge drawback is that they charge a tech fee for shots. I space out my dogs shots so it's completely unreasonable for me to pay an additional $20(? can't remember the exact fee but it was somewhere around there) every time I take her in for a shot. Overall, a strange experience that did not make me feel comfortable. I expect good communication and documents to be accessible at the bare minimum.
