I was snowmobiling in the area with a friend when we stopped by on two separate occasions. The first night was very busy, with a musician just wrapping up his set. It took a little bit to get drinks; however, the busy bartender was pleasant. Noticing some patrons were enjoying food, we tried to order. Unfortunately, the kitchen closed for the night at 9 pm. Drinks were moderately priced and poured well. On the second visit, it wasn't as busy. We grabbed a table and placed our order at the bar. The bartender was friendly and brought our food out when it was ready. The pizza was good. My friend enjoyed his mushroom and Swiss hamburger and fries. It was wing night. We got an order of garlic Parmesan wings. I have to say they didn't look appetizing but were tasty. Drinks were good. Bartender was also kind enough to put the televisions on the hockey game. My perspective after two visits is that locals take priority. Drinks are moderately priced and poured well. The menu has a wide variety of choices. The parking lot accommodates many vehicles and it is snowmobiler friendly. To me it is a northern Wisconsin bar and pub. I'd give it another shot when I return to the area. read more

Bartenders are ok. My review is based on the fact that the specials this place has are a complete scam. Chicken wing special is done after an hour as is the specials on every other day? Its a scam. Ran out of fish fry Friday night and only could grill no deep fry. Bummer. Looked like fun place. But did have a quick bar food lunch later in the week which was good. Outside seating. Their phone number doesn't work; when I told the rude bartender about this, she said it was on purpose because they were getting bombarded with to go orders. Phone has been down for weeks. The food is pretty good but that is it. Been coming here for years and looked past the very slow and sometimes rude service because I liked the food. Friday fish fry at the Pea Patch is definitely a good choice. The service was great, the food was delicious and the Old Fashioned was one of the best I've had. The choice of fish was between cod prepared several ways, lightly breaded, poor man's lobster or lemon pepper. Walleye and perch were lightly breaded and fried to perfection, not greasy at all. The sides were also great, coleslaw, baked beans and several potato choices. We did not leave hungry! The food came out pretty quickly and our server was friendly and efficient even though she had quite a few tables and seemed to be the only server, she made us feel like we were the only table she had. Unfortunately, service was not great, the food wasn't much better. I'm the first to admit that I'm not the greatest cook, but I know I could prepare a better meal than what was served. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, and wrongly assumed that the cheese would be cheddar or something similar. This is Wisconsin after all. My burger came with some type of processed cheese reminiscent of "government cheese " that was served in public schools. The bacon, at least was good. As a side, I ordered tater tots that were under cooked and greasy. The dining room and bar area were exceptionally loud and chaotic. Food orders were placed at the bar with no obvious rhyme or reason. To top it off, there was a group of children that were running back and forth through the dining area. I've come to the Pea Patch since I was kid, and through many incarnations. I've always remembered it as uninviting. Filled with the drunkest folks in the area - like 24 shots of McGillicuddy's deep drunk, including the owners who serve patrons into oblivion. A place where I was inclined to keep my head down as much as possible. Most recently, I stopped in here with a buddy after picking up some things in town. It was a Monday around 2PM. Normally, a time that (as a bartender in my former life) I would have been thrilled to have seen some customers. Instead, the bartender literally rolled her eyes at us several times as we were ordering drinks, and seemed entirely inconvenienced by our presence. It was bad enough that my friend (himself a longtime server) shot me a few looks like "What is her deal? Is this normal?" and then remarked on it several times after we had left. Being more familiar with the, ahem, nuances of the north woods, I persevered and ordered some appetizers. And then proceeded to listen to the bartender loudly snort and swallow snot from an apparent hangover or head cold, as we tried to enjoy them. The last straw was the trump sticker slapped on the back bar, coupled with the faux news blaring trash headlines across the TV. There was nobody in the place when we arrived, so you could tell it was the preferred house channel. In the service industry, I was taught to never talk religion or politics with customers. The owners of "the patch" must not have seen trump's approval ratings recently. Or, they must be independently wealthy and can afford to forego the business of more(!) than 50% of the population, in a highly seasonal and completely tourist-dependent area. Either way (in addition to being a shit operation) ownership has prioritized their political inclinations over their customers' comfort. Last time for me. Believe it or not, it is entirely possible to find good service, quality dive bars and lodges in Vilas county. Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart; you just gotta poke around... read more

MOLD, lack of customer service, overall rude staff (and we heard other patrons talking about the rudeness of the staff at other restaurants)! We were even asked by a staff member 'do you speak English'? Yep... you tell me... do you want to stay here? Two things saved The Pea Patch from a one star review. The main thing was the very sweet, caring and friendly housekeeping young lady we ran into. I'll get to that later. She was awesome! The other was that after almost a full weekend there, one of the bartenders finally warmed up and became friendly. I'll also explain this too. We arrived to the Patch Friday late afternoon. There's no sign about checking in so we went to the bar to ask. It's not busy inside and there's three of them back there (a man and two women). We ask if this is where we check in. Instead of saying yes or anything in the way of welcoming us, we get stared at like we are in the wrong place by the guy. The one women, who later becomes more friendly, just says, "um, do you have a reservation?" And it's downhill from there. They did not have a card for us but did know we had a reservation. We filled out another card, the guy jokes that it's in case we get into an argument and my guy breaks down a door or smashes up the place. I was rather appalled. Ok, yes, that's what it's for but did you just really joke about domestic violence? Sadly that wasn't the last negative encounter with the guy. We get our key and go to the room. ***I will say that at this point I'm still excited because the Patch was all decked out for Halloween and the inside of the saloon is actually really cute. So I'm hoping that the room(s) are also really quaint, cute, and decorated/painted to be fun or at least nice. Boy was I wrong....*** The rooms definitely need updating. Bad. The room was sufficient. I'll say that. It was plain. Very plain. Not cute. Not quaint. Not adorable. I also know that you are not there to watch TV in bed, but the TV was so small it was the size of 2 iPads. Not even worth turning on. My review does not reflect TV size though. Also, not really the "fault" of the Pea Patch, but the floors and walls are thin. You can hear everything above you and next to you. We could hear the room next to us coughing. Like that thin. My review does not reflect that though. That happens with older buildings. We discovered Friday night that the bathroom tub was disgusting. The shower curtain was coated in mold and the tub did not drain. The anti-slip strips were coming off too. So we found the housekeeper and explained the problems. She was AWESOME!! She was so sweet, caring and nice. She found another shower curtain and changed it right away. It was nice. But she said the manager won't be able to do anything about the drain until Monday. (This isn't her fault, but really dude, you couldn't have gotten some Drain-o or stopped out or something?? Total Lack of customer service.) We are at the saloon Friday. Before we even sat down at the bar, the male we dealt with early was right there asking us what we wanted. Before we had time to look at what they had, he asked us, "hello, do you speak English?!" We tried to talk to the male and the ladies behind the bar. He was sure friendly with what we are guessing are locals or at least frequent customers. The girls were busy but never smiled. It was just not a place we wanted to stay. The food was decent. No real complaints. Average for the area. This also helped to factor in to my review. The food is okay. Typical bar food. I can't rave over it but I can't say anything bad either. It helped them from getting a one star. While at another establishment Saturday afternoon, a large group of people came in. They were laughing and having fun. They sat down and started to talk to the server. They asked her if she was going to be nicer than the last place they were at. They told her they just left the Pea Patch due to how rude the staff was to them. (We just looked at each other. We weren't surprised). It wasn't until late Saturday did one of the ladies finally warm up. And it was after we talked to her some. But at least it was progress. And there was live music Saturday night. We would have loved to hang out and watch. But eh... why when you aren't treated well? Sadly... this place has SO much potential. But when you treat people poorly, have zero customer service and the rooms themselves reflect how little you care for your patrons... It isn't worth it. read more

If there was a zero-star option, that's what I'd be giving this place. We've been coming to the pea patch for years and have never truly felt welcomed. At one point they had a sign above the bar that read "not all of us are on vacation, some of us live here". Not very welcoming to the vast majority of their customers who are not locals. The last straw was this past weekend when we stopped in to meet up with some friends and see the band. We went up to the bar to ordered a round of drinks and were told they wouldn't serve us because we were on snowmobiles. The bartender then proceeded to tell the owner that we were swearing at her, which was a complete and udder lie. After the owner yelling at us in front of the entire bar, she told us we were never welcome back. For the owner to be so active in the local snowmobile club/community, I have never felt so unwelcome as a snowmobiler in any establishment. While I'm not welcome back, I would never choose to go back and will never recommend this dump to anyone. read more

Writing the review a mere 5 minutes after a horrendous experience. Walked in, ask the waitress, a shorter, older, brunette if we seat ourselves on the patio and instead of a warm smile, we were accosted with a flurry of unpleasantness. Bare in mind, my fiancé and I are both 27 years of age and we were all but threatened to be kicked out if we tried to order food and we were under 21. She didn't stop there, she continued her rant about how they won't take our order outside you have to go inside to order, which is fine, but she spoke to us in such a condescending manner, we had to leave. Ate lunch at this cute little place in Manitowish Waters. There was a patio of which we had our lunch. It was a hot sunny day with only 3 tables available with an umbrella. No one was wearing masks. None of the wait staff or bartenders. In fact, we were given strange looks when we went inside to order. There was not any wiping down of tables after turning them over to new customers.
