Really lovely restaurant serving macrobiotic vegan food. Perfect for those following the whole foods/plant-based diet. Their food is fairly low in salt, which I really appreciated. They do use small amounts of oil. They are so kind and welcoming. What a great spot to get something akin to what my health-conscious family eats at home. Very welcome and comforting to encounter this kind of food while traveling. I also love that they offered local kombucha from Koast kombucha, a brand I didn't encounter anywhere else on my trip.

Peace Natural Vegan Food restaurant in Albany is so delicious and the staff is friendly! It's similar to Shangrila but with more dish options like momos and cookies. Check it out!

The best! My favorite vegan restauarant so far in the Bay Area. Delicious Tibetan food, the owners are ethical vegans for the animals, lovely vibe, decor, people, ambiance. Great service, affordable, all so healthy too! Nice location, easy parking, and incredible pies for dessert!

Such good vegan food and amazingly nice service. Everything they serve is wholesome yet also very tasty. Will be coming back.

The décor in this restaurant is amazing, painted with Himalayan mountain scenes. Peaceful atmosphere and delicious food. I was obsessed with the flavor of the green salad dressing. Other dishes were well seasoned and flavorful, especially the squash/sweet potato--yum. Servers were friendly and gracious.

Such an amazing meal and amazing vibes. Could eat this food forever. I felt superhuman afterwards. It's so flavorful and so healthy. I loved being greeted like we were family. Since we don't have family nearby, this is the next best thing!

Inside was so charming in nicely decorated. Service was fast and friendly. Our server was patient as we were a little indecisive and our group had a few food allergies. Food was delicious! We had a few folks from out of town, but we all agreed - hands down the best Thai egg rolls we've ever had! Crispy, filled with flavor and just a little hint of spice, not spicy at all, just perfect pepper? Our pad see ew wasn't greasy and meat was fresh and delicious, not fatty at all. Thai ice teas were refreshing, NOT fully iced or too sweet, like you sometimes get - great balance. Red chicken curry was perfect and so was soup and fried rice - all cooked as requested! I'll definitely go back to this place and recommend that you do, too!!

I also ordered the spicy basil chicken stir fry. Both were okay, nothing to rave about. I do love the spice on the basil chicken it was perfect. But for the spicy lovers out there you may want to ask for some chili oil to make it more spicer as its not as spicy as i thought it would be. But still good! Maybe I'll have to come try this restaurant in person vs delivery.

Growing up in Wisconsin in a small city at the tip of Lake Superior Chinese restaurants were just about the only ethnic food available throughout the country. Exotic as they may seem to have been and widespread Nationally which is partly due to the Chinese building the railroads cross country. Chicago Cafe (Woodland, CA): Founded in 1903, academic research suggests this spot near Sacramento is the oldest continuously operating Chinese restaurant in the U.S. and California. These days I prefer Vietnamese or Thai all day long because the flavors are better and more variety and cleaner with respect to how the dishes are prepared. Well, I stumbled into this spot today and I was rather blown away. Large portions, low prices, excellent variety and top notch service. And a huge portion for only $13.95. I had the vegetable rice, complementary hot sauce and a nice iced cold five dollar Heineken. OK, this is a spot to put on your list. See you there!!! And now here are some interesting factoids: While thousands of Chinese immigrants first came to the U.S. to build the transcontinental railroad in the 1800s, it was the subsequent decades of legal discrimination that forced a marginalized community to turn the restaurant industry into their primary means of survival and citizenship. The "Lo Mein Loophole": In the early 20th century, U.S. courts recognized restaurant ownership as a pathway to obtain merchant visas. This loophole sparked a massive boom in the creation of Chinese restaurants, particularly luxury "chop suey palaces".

With my luck, my car would smell like hello kitty for weeks. Anyhow, I found Mẹ Và Con on yelp, a mother-daughter owned resto that opened in 2024. They serve bánh khọt and have outdoor seating so we headed over. Thankfully, we arrived before the Sunday dinner rush (~5:45 pm) and before the parking lot was filled. Rezzies are accepted (via phone). M E N U Viet Cuisine with some elevated, modern twists (no specific regional specialty). Smaller menu than your typical hole-in-the-wall with 25-30 items including AZN fusion items like shrimp ceviche, kimchi pasta and tom yum pasta. Beer, wine, and soju cocktails available. F O O D * Bò Tái Chanh: Beef Carpaccio w/ Thai basil, fried shallot, house tangerine sauce ($18): https://tinyurl.com/nhcn9kxw - Served at dinner only Fresh, tender slices of beef carpaccio with a sweetness from the tangerine sauce and white onions. I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. Plus, I miss the texture of peanuts. * Bánh Khọt: Viet Mini Pancakes w/ shrimp, coconut milk batter, herbs, pickles ($24): https://tinyurl.com/34nx7sat - Served at dinner only Fav dish of the night, the savory bánh khọt was delicately crispy and slightly custardy in the center with a snappy shrimp drizzled with fragrant scallion oil. It came with romaine, mint, and perilla leaves neatly layered for easy wrapping. The lettuce was a bit soft and soggy tho, and I think they forgot the pickled veggies. Served with a tiny portion of tangy sweet nước chấm. * Bò Lúc Lắc: Shaking Beef w/ soy, garlic, onion, cherry tomato, arugula ($26): https://tinyurl.com/3rkpukct Meltingly tender cubes of filet mignon but light on the seasoning and aromatics so it was bland. Also, was hoping for more smoky wok hei flavor. * Thịt Kho Tàu: Braised Pork Belly w/ hard boiled eggs, rice ($21): https://tinyurl.com/mr2evryw - Includes bowl of rice A traditional dish served during Lunar New Year, it symbolizes prosperity, warmth, and stability. Chunks of pork belly are caramelized in sugar and braised in coconut soda and fish sauce - rich, savory with a good ratio of lean meat to fat (4 pieces). Wish they used more braising liquid when warming up, as some pieces were a bit dry. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly hospitality. Food does take awhile tho...our first dish took about 30 minutes to arrive. A M B I A N C E Casual, no-frills indoor area with about 10-12 tables. Cute covered patio in the parking lot with 5 tables and fairy lights. Overall, Mẹ Và Con is a great place to introduce people that are new to Viet cuisine and/or you're looking for Viet dishes with different twist.
