Every once in awhile the siren call of groceries delivered to my door sings to me and I give peapod another chance. Maybe it's the snow, the heat, the fact that I don't have a car. I want to like this service. I want to use this service. But alas, maybe I'll have one or two decent experiences (meaning the driver shows up in the window they arrange), but that will be followed by persistently late deliveries that help me realize it's not worth this aggravation. The lateness wouldn't bother me nearly as much if they gave you an update. But it's not like they call you before your 2-hour window to let you know they're running late. So you wait. For 2 hours. No one shows up. No one calls. Last night: I had signed up for deliver between 4:30-10pm. I was hoping for earlier. They sent me a 2 hour window of 8-10pm. At 9:50pm, I'm tired and still waiting and I decided that I'm not going to accept a late delivery. If they are even one minute late, I will refuse to open my door (in my opinion, the delivery window and abiding by that is part of the contract and I'm entitled to breach if they breach). No one came. No one called. At 10:02 I called them to cancel my order. 10 minutes on hold. Finally I speak to a representative, who, btw, doesn't even apologize (his name was Cody, he wasn't rude or anything, just seemed used to people calling pissed off about late deliveries) and I say I want to cancel my order. He says ok and cancels it (doesn't even try to persuade me otherwise - again, I think he's used to this because their service is so bad). At about 10:15, I get the text that I'm the next delivery. I've already cancelled it and they prob got the message so no one knocks on my door. Realize that had I accepted the order, it probably wouldn't have arrived until 10:30pm. I don't know if the issue is that they book too many deliveries into the window or the drivers are just slow. I'm not sure if my cancelling the order punished Peapod or some low-paid driver. What I do know is that if you are going to have a delivery service AND you are going to ask for a 2-hour window, then you need to be consistent with that service and delivery w/i the time. At least 75% of the times I've used Peapod (probably a total of 10 times) they have been late (ranging from 5 minutes to 45 minutes). And that fact that they don't call or update you until after they've already missed your delivery window... unbelievable. So, I've said it before (and I'll prob say it again), never again. Increasingly, the two-hour delivery window given at Peapod is meaningless. In three of my last four orders the delivery has been late. I'm not just referring to a few minutes late but as much as three-hours late. On the good side, the delivery people are professional and polite and the produce is usually good. However, all of this is unimportant if Peapod cannot deliver at or near the agreed upon time. read more

There delivery charge is high. Every time I have tried to use a free delivery coupon they say date has expired which is not on the coupon. I use the long delivery window to get five dollars off. I live in Waukegan, Illinois, and I am very happy with PeaPod. The food is excellent and packed very nicely. For security reasons, I am using PeaPod ,since I am a senior, and I do not want to have to hurt someone's child robbing me in the Walmart parking lot across the street. I am very happy with my orders, and I tip my drivers very well. They have always been on time. They use local farms, so the produce tastes betterthan the chain stores. I have put in three orders so far, and I love it. If they change for the worst, then I will change also. read more

Do NOT use this service. The worst! They are separate from Giant and impossible to speak to someone when you have a problem with your delivery unless you want to wait on hold for over 10 minutes. Very poor service - Use Shoprite! Much better and delivery service is located right in the store so easy to contact if needed. We have now been using this for more than a year. While once and a while the delivery is off a bit (item left out) or has to be rescheduled slightly, for what it is -- it is a miracle and lifesaver. The website is worth it alone -- as it holds all of your past purchases and allows a fast re-order. The drivers are always super-polite and helpful. They will bring it right into your kitchen for storing ! Fair prices, and good customer service. read more

Attleboro, MA Peapod advertises that they are part of Stop & Shop (See the sides of their trucks and their commercials). They are NOT. They do NOT have the same pricing (their's is more) and they don't honor S&S coupons for gas, though they DO have THEIR gas points honored by S&S. Confusing? I think so. I am disabled and can't shop at the grocery store. It bothers me a great deal that they don't honor the gas coupons. Seems discriminatory. Being disabled is VERY expensive and saving a few cents here and there can be quite helpful. I know that deliveries cost more (I'm always paying delivery charges), They DO have to pay their employees, but why is it that the disabled, who can't get out to work, have to pay the extra? Since they operate under the guise of S&S I think they should honor S&S prices and coupons. I have contacted both S&S and Peapod about the problem (each says it's the other's problem), and I've started the process of a complaint with the DOJ under the Americans with Disabilities Act, about the gas coupons, to see if THEY can put some pressure on Peapod. A single voice isn't enough. Their grocery varieties are fewer. Their costs per item are higher. You pay for delivery and now for the delivery gas as well. The picker for my branch has sent me spoiled meats that have freshness dates saying they're fresh, but they're NOT, and other items, like milk, with freshness dates that are way too close. Peapod WILL give you back your money for spoiled goods, which is GREAT, but that leaves me without my meat until the next delivery. SO be careful. Check your eggs, they're often broken. Count your fruits, they're often counted wrong. And check your meat for freshness. I also had an OPENED bag of dog food delivered to me and I feared poison might be in it due to some "crazy." They honor all the problems, but, again, it leaves you hanging until/unless you get/have more at home. Having said all that, they are still better priced than other delivery services, and have a great variety of delivery times. One benefit they DO have is that there is no limit to the amount of items you can order, so if your favorites are on sale, like sodas, you can go above the limits set at the grocery store. Peapod is the worst. Three orders in a row now have been screwed up. The first -- we're out of everything you want, but don't worry, we substituted your chicken for turkey, your salmon for cod and your cat food for dog food. Well done, Peapod, well done. The second -- scheduled delivery window between 7pm - 9pm. Phone call at 9pm, "we're running late, we'll be there between 11pm - 12am." Not only are you running 2 hours late but you want to deliver my groceries at midnight!? The third (just this morning) -- the driver brought two bags to the door (leaving 75% of the order in the truck) and drove away. When my wife called Peapod to tell them the driver needs to turn around and finish making the delivery, they told her to schedule a new time. These people make comcast look professional. I've been a customer for 10+ years. Even before Giant Food took them over. I'm so Done with Peapod Delivery. They used to be awesome. But they've raised their rates significantly and diminished service. Gone are the days for next day delivery and even when you do schedule a service 3 days in advance they can't even get it in gear enough to manage a 3 hour window. When I complained I get, "well I'm just dispatch" or "I'm just the driver". What ever... y'all better start just being dispatch or drivers for another company because this piss-poor service is going down the tubes and won't be in business long with this sort of service. read more

I'm recovering from knee replacement surgery and had used peapod before. I thought that I would use it again. I placed my order on Tuesday July 12th for a July 13th delivery between 4-10 pm. Unfortunately, the order never came. Not even a phone call, text or email. Called customer service the next morning and the representative was shocked when I told her. She verified my information and offered delivery...for the next day. Unacceptable. Whereas they offered me a discount, I think I'm done with this service. read more

Stopped using Peapod about a year ago because they were late - every, single time! Decided with the added competition of Safeway and Instacart they must be stepping up their game - NOPE. Delivery today scheduled for 5-7 and they show up at 7:45. I got no courtesy call, no email, no nothing. Called customer service at 7:20 and waited 15 minutes on the phone. When I finally got through all I got was, "yeah, the driver will be there in 15 minutes." So they didn't apologize, didn't offer me anything and basically told me what they thought I wanted them to hear. I am really sorry that I tried them again. I'm not exactly sure what's happening with the Peapod service in the DC area, but my deliveries have been increasingly late - as in one to two hours past the selected drop-off time. Today, they cancelled my order completely. When I was patched through to customer service, expecting an apology and a quick resolution - as in "Let's get this to you tomorrow at your earliest convenience" - I had "Oh dear, sorry! No delivery times until Tuesday." (Today's Sunday.) I just can't rely on them. read more

We tried Peapod 3times. Each time the produce was moldy or overripe. Frozen items came bagged with other non-frozen items ( they were melted and useless,) and customer service took almost a week to respond to a complaint. Thank you but no, thank you! Amazon Fresh all the way! read more

I've been shopping with Peapod since they began in our area. I have weathered a lot of issues and changes with them. It is a fair service when you can't get out to the grocery store, but Peapod is behind the times. I use them because I have too, but I have begun using BJs and am looking forward to getting rid of Peapod as my grocery delivery provider all together. First, when they run late--they are very late. Lately, they have begun to run "early," meaning if you book a time slot from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., they are trying to roll up at 6:30 a.m. Second, they must send some foods down a conveyor belt or something because there are always tiny slits on the lids of some foods (even foods that can leak), when I asked them about it they "didn't know what I was talking about." I've got pictures. Third, they do not deliver the freshest fruits and vegetables. The fruit is often past ripe or damaged by the time it gets to my door. I learned and began to order very little produce from Peapod. Fourth, and perhaps this is the most troubling: they seem to get your items on the truck with no problem, they even get it to your house with few issues--but they are so absolutely careless getting it off the truck to my front door. It is unbelievable. The drivers are always rushing. Last week the guy carried my entire order in one trip, except for the water. That meant that bread and chips where smashed, tomatoes were packed underneath canned goods and crushed, etc. They literally do not care about your food from the truck to the house. Fifth, I believe that the food they deliver is higher than the same item in the store. Sometimes the markup on the food they deliver is minimal, but other times its just ridiculous. Sixth, they don't seem to pay their drivers much. They are always rushing to get to the next delivery; and I am sure they expect to be tipped. I do tip, but its getting to be exhaustive because they really to rely on the customer for that little bit of a boost. Lastly, Peapod does not make it easy to get a refund, or even a replacement when they damage food that cannot be accepted. Interesting how you can order your food online and have it delivered, but you can't arrange for your refund or food replacement online. Beyond that, the trucks are too large and cumbersome--its like the other new upstart food delivery companies have learned from Peapod's ongoing mistakes. Anyway, if you need food delivery service try some of the other companies first. I will be moving away from Peapod as soon as I can. read more

Very pleased. The fruits were beautiful and the meats were very nice. It showed the shoppers were very concerned about the customer. I hadn't used Peapod for a while because I wasn't happy. Then I saw by their advertising they had changed for the good, very true, the only little problem was the delivery was supposed to be between 11 and 2. I did get text message updates so I wasn't too bothered about the late delivery. My driver was very nice. I will definitely use again. Update today:Selected delivery for between 6- 8pm. At 8pm, driver hasn't arrived. After spending 15 minutes on hold with customer service, I'm told my driver won't arrive until 10:30pm. No one bothered to call to say that the driver would be late, and no explanation or apologies were given by the driver when he finally did show, over two hours late. If someone would have bothered to call, I wouldn't have been as upset, even though this is the second delivery in a row I received where stuff was "not put on the truck" and was missing from my order (different from out of stock). I used to LOVE Peapod! I would have given 4 stars but because of my experience with their drivers (SUCK!), their rating went down to 2. We use peapod for work since 2006. We order fruits, cereals, sodas, yogurt, etc. I have never had bad experience with their customer service people. They were always pleasant everytime I call to complain about their drivers or missing items. They would either credit the account or redeliver same day and sometimes next day. Ok, not all of their drivers are bad. We had some in the past that were friendly and nice. But lately, we have their lady driver and she's just NASTY! I have asked her many times not to drop the bags of apples and bananas because they bruise, and of course she drops them. I have to clean up our kitchen floor because sodas were popping from the cans. The lids on the chobani yogurts were rip. I have complained her to customer service and had requested for a different driver. They said that they will try but their drivers are by availability. Of course we got her again, and I know that management must have talked to her (as they should!) because her attitude was nastier than ever. She would stare me down with a confrontational look while I prop the door open for her. She just keeps on staring the whole time she puts the groceries on the table. IT WAS UNCOMFORTABLE! I just signed off the delivery sheet and left her in the kitchen. She knows the way out. read more

I am about fed up with Peapod delivery services, their drivers never arrive on time. I was informed my delivery would be five hours late, but my groceries were never delivered. I contacted them the next day and they stated that since it was so late the driver did not deliver it., it would have been nice if they had contacted me to say that my groceries would not be delivered. I said I would no longer use their delivery services, but decided I would give them another chance; once again my grocery delivery is late. Peapod did not have the common courtesy to inform me of the late delivery, I had to call them to find out that my delivery would be more than an hour late. What is the point of having a delivery window if the service is always late. I will no longer be using Peapod services. Seems to me that they do not care about their customers or else they would do a better job of improving their service. read more

They guys that drop your food off are great friendly and kind. I will like the fruits are not always the best as you would pick them out your self. It cost more on the site then at the store and your paying for a service fee. Thank heavens for Peapod!!! I got rid of my car last year since I live and work right on the metro. Lugging all my groceries home and up the stairs was just a pain. Enter Pea Pod. I have found all the produce to be in excellent condition. The only exception is sometimes the prepackaged lettuce. But otherwise, the fruit and veggies come bruise free. I also like that you can shop and really compare prices so it is a cost savings advantage to shop from your couch. Example would be the 20 different option or pasta... Pay $3 or pay $7 for the same thing? Ample choices. You can access your previous orders in your profile if you happen to buy the same items routinely. Makes it so simple to just click on the usual and check out. You can also buy all your cleaning products, laundry det., pet food, paper towels, toothpaste etc. Anything you need. They also frequently send coupon codes for various discounts, free delivery etc. I have only had them be late one time and it was only 15 minutes. And they called 2 hours ahead of time to tell me they may be up to 30 minutes late so plenty of notice. Peapod - only way to go! read more

We just tried Peapod for the first time and are very satisfied with our first round. All of our items came, and the delivery was within the 2 hour time frame indicated. The driver was friendly. The fresh produce we ordered was good quality and similar to what I would have picked myself in the store. I felt the online ordering was easy to use and I quickly was able to find the products I was looking for. The one downfall is some of the products I was looking for (which are available in the stores) were not available online. Overall, a very positive experience and we'll definitely be using this service again. read more

Drivers, who also deliver your orders, bring your bags in and leave them right on your kitchen counter :) Can it get more convenient than that? I don't have a car, so Peapod is great for getting groceries to my apartment. I don't use them all the time, since there is a delivery fee, but it's a great when it's too icy to walk to the grocery store or too hot for ice cream to survive the walk home. And if I need to stock up on heavy stuff, like cartons of soda or laundry detergent bottles, it's SO handy! Recently, however, they've been late every time. And what's the point of a delivery window if you're late every time? OK, so yes, Mr. Peapod Customer Service Guy, DC has bad traffic. But if you operate a business in the DC area, should you not accommodate its bad traffic into your delivery window? The complaint got me one delivery charge back, but what about the other times? I still like Peapod, but I do hope they get back on track with being on time. read more

Okay, situation is this: renovating old house in Occoquan/Woodbridge area. Husband consumes large quantities of food and liquids. Going to grocery store is not fun at this point. Ninety percent of the time, I'm covered in paint and other construction debris and, to stop and clean up good enough to go out in public, puts a huge dent in my day. Used Peapod delivery service for the first time and am extraordinarily pleased!!! I ordered the things that are the biggest nuisance to have to go out and fetch (and the things you run out of the quickest): bottled drinking liquids of all kinds, paper towels, toilet paper, sandwich meats, creamer, etc. The driver who showed up for my area was 10 minutes early on SUNDAY after the latest big storm!! He was extremely pleasant and everything I ordered was accounted for and nothing was expired. "Beginner's Luck"???.....I don't know. But, for my particular current situation, I will definitely do this repeatedly until we get our monstrous project finished. In my opinion, the delivery fee of 9 bucks was completely worth it! I'll pay $9 all day long to avoid leaving the house, dealing with traffic/heat, and winding up very pissed off!!!! I think y'all can make this work if you are in a similar position as we are. I'm a Nobody from Nowhere but, you might find this a great help to just order the big bulk , sundry crap that you don't have to be "picky" about! read more

I just had a peapod delivery and love, love, love it! I'm a busy mom of two who works full-time and hope that I never have to step foot in a grocery store again (although I go periodically for 5 minutes just to get the few items that I can't get through peapod - cento chef cut tomatoes and shaved boars head). I am happy with my deliveries about 99% of the time - but when I am not I call and they make it right plus some. I do the unattended deliveries, which is great. The key is to get in the habit of calling the customer service for a "tote" (aka box) pickup as soon as you finish unpacking them. I can't say enough good things about how Peapod makes my life easier. read more

Not a fan of this peapod service. This was my first time ordering groceries and having them delivered, so I figured why not. Chose a time slot, they called halfway into it to say they had hit "traffic" (there is no traffic in this town in the middle of the day) and could be up to two hours late. Two. Hours. at that point you don't really have an option but to sit around and wait. If I wanted my groceries at 4pm, I would have ordered them then. When I finally got my groceries, a few items were missing and I was told I could come pick them up, or they could deliver them to be but it wouldn't be until their next available time slot, which was two days later. Absurd. Didn't even offer reduced delivery price or anything. Will never be using them again. read more

broken ankle (crutches) = necessity for peapod I am one who likes to do things by herself, and that includes grocery shopping. However, 3 months ago I broke two bones and tore a ligament, and it only took one trip to a grocery store to realize how treacherous they are for someone on crutches. Enter Peapod. I have now used Peapod several times in NoVa. The delivery person not only brings the groceries into my building, but into my apartment and onto my kitchen counter. They are polite and appreciative of whatever tip I leave (typically a little over $5.) As someone who typically browses around a grocery store and ends up with more than I need, and more unhealthy options than I would like, this has added benefits as well. I appreciate the flexibility in delivery options. I can choose a large delivery window and save some money, I can have them leave the food without me being present, or I can request a small two hour window. The free delivery for the first 60 days is pretty nice. Now, the question remains whether I will go back to grocery shopping once I am off crutches. read more

Honestly, pleasantly surprised. Better than I expected. What I Like: 1. Can change your order up to almost 24 hours in advance. 2. Nice layout such that you can shop by "aisle," specials, etc. 3. The order has been right both times (as I now have 2 experiences under my belt). 4. They accept coupons upon arrival and honor those. 5. Nice updates to let you know when your order cut off is about to hit, when you're next in the queue and when the driver has arrived. 6. VERY friendly drivers. They obviously put forth some effort. 7. They charge you days after the order was delivered ensuring time for any adjustments subsequently identified. 8. Great customer service. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating. 9. Save a massive amount of time commuting to and from the grocery store as well as the check-out lanes. No deli line. No need to spend a crazy amount of time trying to locate things in the store, especially if you're trying new dishes or the store has upgraded and moved things around. 10. The quality of the fresh produce as been pretty good and the expiration dates have been within reason. 11. They carry some items that are not readily available in the store. Nice not to be surprised by out of stock or does not carry. 12. More control over what I order. Decreased impulse buys. Things to Keep in Mind: 1. Both times my delivery was outside of the designated time slot. The first delivery was set for between 7:30 AM and 1 PM and they showed up around 1:20/1:30 pm. They did, however, call and leave a message that they were running late and apologized. They also let me know my refined slot was 11 AM - 1 PM, which was nice. The second delivery was set for Fri between 8 and 10 pm. They showed up at 7:50 pm, which worked just fine for me as a 7 - 9 pm slot would have been preferable, However, given that I was provided two notifications # 1: the next delivery and # 2: arrived, not to mention this was only 10 minutes prior, that worked just fine. 2. If they are out and cannot substitute, you are flat out of luck (and won't know until the order is delivered), especially if it was a planned menu item. They do make an attempt to substitute, which in my case, they tend to go healthy on me, which I cannot complain. 3. They do use a lot of bags, which is good for pet parents. Will recycle. read more

I thought I was a lifer with pepod. True, produce is best picked yourself. Otherwise service has been great. NOTE AND BEWARE, however, a recent trend that just started early in 2011. They lost a lot of drivers and their delivery is almost always full (or "sold out" as they like to say) until the END OF THE SECOND DAY after you place your order YES, I could get more organized, but I often think of peapod when I get really low and something precludes a big grocery trip (3 kids and a job can do that). I have given up and tried Safeway delivery. I'll keep you posted! read more

I used them one time and they were great for what i needed. They informed me when the driver was near and it made me ready to receive them. I just had surgery and it was a blessing to use the service. I can see how things can get lost or confused, but i hope i don't experience those. read more

I've been using Peapod for a few months now. My husband and I work full time and have a hard time getting to the grocery store to do the full shopping that needs to be done. We only grocery shop about twice a month. I love that I can go in and shop on Peapod's website anytime I have a few minutes and it saves it until I come back. The delivery times are so convenient and everything is exactly what I order each time. I LOVE Peapod!!! read more

PeaPod is amazing. It's so easy to order online, and delivery is reliable. I have had some issues with quality of produce, but PeaPod's customer service is AMAZING. First, you can chat with them online - so easy! Second, they will refund you for any produce that is bad and/or credit you an inconvenience charge. I am amazed at the quality of their customer service. It's so much easier than purchasing groceries from the store because if there is an issue with a product, you have to go back to the store. UPDATE: OCT 2013: I've used the delivery service periodically in the past two years, and havent experienced another significant 'outside the time window' situation (see original review). The produce continues to be an issue for both the delivery and pickup Peapod services, so I've just learned to either shop in person for those items, or pick them up at other stores that are convenient during the week. Overall, I hoped for a bit more, but the convenience factor really keeps me using the service. Now that my local store offers the pickup option, I find myself using that (free) service more often than the delivery. The delivery, I really only use when I find a no-fee code or REALLY have a crazy week! ORIGINAL REVIEW NOV 2011 (2 stars): Looks like my issues with my first-time delivery aren't unique. I ordered with Peapod for the first time and I was a bit let down -- def expected more: 1) Produce was blah, the tomatoes were beyond over-ripe, and one had been squashed/ripped open. 3) Driver arrived late - window of time was 7 to 9 p.m., so I called customer svc at 9, and they said it would be 920p latest... At 945, i called again. Cust svc said they would check... Oh, the driver left it unattended at 905pm even though ours was an attended order (with their help bringing groceries in). 4) Maybe it's not a big deal but I also didn't like how many plastic bags they used. Sometimes 1 product will be in 1 bag, it was a big waste of plastic bags. To be fair, the costumer service people were super nice and deducted the items that I never received but I hesitate to use them again. read more

Loyal Peapod users since Peapod began. I can't even tell you how disappointed I am to be treated the way I was treated by Peapod today. Peapod used to be the height of customer service. Today they were both rude and wrong. They have lost this customer for good. read more
