Wow! So I'm from PDX and we always have a small soup kitchens and sandwiches, I heard of this but never been; but my best friend is sick so I took him here and Lo and be hold it was great. The food was fire, we both got chicken noodle soup, I had the BLT with avocado and ham, he got the French dip. We really enjoyed our food. It was delicious and I found a new spot for soup and sandwiches when I'm in SLC. Also, the customer service is amazing and man I love the server and the chef they are so nice. The ambiance is nice and have an old school look and feel. It was very clean and very welcoming. We found our new spot and will definitely be back,

This was exactly how I pictured it would be, based on the name. The Soup Kitchen is an old, small restaurant that has probably seen it's share of patrons throughout the years. I'd bet that most long-time Sugarhouse residents have a story about this place in their memory. Now I do, too. I visited on a cool winter day-the perfect weather for soup. My usual go-to is chicken noodle, so I went with that and it was....ok. Nothing remarkable, but it got the job done. I'm unclear on the genesis of the soup-did it come from a can, or is it made from scratch? Not sure. The breadsticks that accompanied it were a step above cardboard. That's saying a lot for me, since I can usually chow down most forms of carbs, but I just couldn't do these. Service was friendly, which earned a little higher rating than the soup alone. Also, when I was chatting later with some people about the restaurant, someone brought up how delicious the breadsticks are. Hmm, maybe I got a bad batch...or maybe I should take that recommendation with a healthy dose of skepticism. Either way, I'm not sure this will be one I rush back to.

Ordered a quick lunch on a Monday. Wasn't feeling so good and wanted to grab something quick but not from a chain restaurant. Ordered a Turkey sandwich added bacon, bbq chips and a cinnamon cake for dessert. The price is very economical and everything lived up to the other reviews. It is nothing fancy but it was worth a try. Didn't get soup. They didn't have a baked potato which is one of my favorites. Def worth a try. Very straight forward menu and you get as described.

I'm so embarrassed to admit that I door dashed food twice in one day from this place. I ordered the grown up grilled cheese with the creamy tomato soup for lunch. It was so delicious that I told my husband about it so we had to order another grilled cheese and tomato soup for him - I ordered the vegetable beef soup for myself. Hands down the BEST vegetable beef soup I've ever had. If the delicious comfort food isn't enough - then the relatively low prices will suck you in. Seriously a grilled cheese and bowl of soup for less than ten dollars? I'll take 2!!!

Always so cozy and yummy. Feels like I'm at my grandmas. I like to go here alone or with a loved one. Anything and everything is good but I usually get the same 3 things. Perfect location because it is private and hidden but perfect for people watching.

The small place was a last minute what am I going to get for lunch spot. It sort of looks like a sketchy place when you pull up but when you enter your greeted very nicely! Being a first timer the staff had no problem explaining how to order and answered questions. They don't have an overwhelming menu it's simple. I didn't have to wait long to get my food to go. I tried the cheddar broccoli soup and the chef salad. The salad was very good and I couldn't finish it so plenty for the next day. I was not really a fan of the soup I think it just didn't hit the spot. I loved the piece of bread I got with it YUMMY! I think if I tried this place again it will be for a sandwich. Other than that it's a small cute place.

I've always really liked the soup kitchen. So I'm giving it three stars because most visits are usually pretty good. This last time there was absolutely horrible. The service was really abrupt and I almost felt like I was inconveniencing them. I had to force the lady that serve my soup to smile and she finally did and that was nice. But then the soup was served warm. it tasted like water and there was absolutely no texture. I tried to put a whole bunch of Tabasco in it salt and pepper nothing helped. Ate maybe four spoonfuls and the staff was avoiding eye contact with me so I just thought what the heck I spent four bucks on some crappy soup stale breadstick but, I have enough left over to go buy a can of Campbell's. It's always seemed a little dingy and dirty but, this time was particularly unclean. I'm wondering if they're not going out of business or something? I hope not. It would be nice if they stuck around but, they have to clean up their act quite a bit.

Which was made up of perfectly fried pork topped with Dukes mayo (my fav), ranch-kraut (my new fav), and dill. You can really taste the ingredients which is such a plus for me as too many ingredients in a sandwhich can get muddy. - They had a special butternut squash soup with calabrian chili which was phenomenal. At only $3 it was a perfect side for winter. CONS: - Pricey. I think at this price point if it added a bag of chips or some time of fruit or a small little side or maybe a can of soda included it would be a perfect meal and a very reasonable price point. My only suggestion.

I…read morehad noticed Deadpan from some foodie articles and accounts - amazingly, they decided to keep their business going due to the massive support they received when they announced their closure a few months ago. The owner was kind and helped me pick between the two sandwiches I was being indecisive about - the Oh Schnitzel and the Hot Chopped Cheese. He asked if I could handle spicy and I said yes. I let him choose a sandwich for me between the two and he chose the Hot Chopped Cheese and said he thinks I'd enjoy it. He described it as a sandwich with chopped-up cheeseburger fillings inside, and they use a lamb and beef patty instead of just beef. Right, he was. I thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich and the meat was spiced and slightly spicy, but nothing I couldn't handle. The sandwich was flavorful, and I'm impressed that the bread wasn't too thick because sometimes places serve sandwiches with way too much bread-to-filling ratio. The bread was also a nice texture, I'm glad it wasn't too toasty or crunchy like some sandwiches can get that rub the roof of my mouth raw. I felt like I had a well-balanced meal out of the Chopped Cheese. Flavor-packed meat, cheese, veggies, bread - that's all you need. The food was delicious, and I don't doubt that the rest of the items on the menu taste great, but the prices feel high, yes, even in this economy. I say this because I was able to finish this sandwich and still felt I had room to eat some more, perhaps a little snack. I almost always cannot comfortably finish my food in one sitting when dining out, so that was a sign to me that this wasn't all that much food, and I could tell from the get-go because the sandwich did look small.

My mouth is watering as I write this overdue review. Caputo's was a must-stop for us on our way out…read moreof SLC, and I really wish we had something small and family-run like this in CA. The closest store I can think of that has such a wide selection of meats and cheeses is Eataly, but that is huge (and a chain) compared to Caputo's. Originally, I found Caputo's while looking for sandwich shops, but was very very happy when I found out they also offered charcuterie meats. We didn't end up getting any cheese bc of the drive, but did choose some fancy meats to bring home (black truffle salame & cabacero iberico), which were so delicious. As for the sandwiches, I went with The Caputo while my husband went with the Old School (alas I forgot to take a photo before he devoured it). The staff were efficient and our sandwiches were ready pretty quickly, even with a small lunch rush line. When I say The Caputo was one of the best Italian sandwiches I've ever had, I mean it. The veggies were delightfully fresh, the meats were aplenty, and the olive oil + balsamic was perfect without making the bread soggy. My husband also raved about his sandwich might I add. The staff were friendly, and there is a small seating area should you wish to enjoy your sandwiches next door. We also browsed around the market area and picked up some truffles and pasta flour so I could try my hand at making homemade pasta. There was so much to look at, it was like a treasure trove, but we had to be conscious of what we truly wanted to bring home vs what caught our eyes in the moment. Caputo's will definitely be one of our first stops the next time we visit SLC!

The sandwiches are smaller, more expensive , less variety and the service was SLOW. It was 11:30 am and no lines, about 10 patrons in the whole place. Shocked to see no heavy inch traffic . I had a serving of tuna salad ($9) which was ok and $5 cheaper than a sandwich ($13). Hubby had half a Caputo Sandwich. Fountain drinks were $6!!!! There are no deli salads anymore in the sandwich shop nor in the grocery store section. All the grocery has is imported jars , hard pasta and meats. There is no longer any amazing smells of bread and spices like I've experienced in other I Italian delis and shops in many other cities. If you go there now instead of like in the "old days", which weren't so long ago. you might think it's ok but not anymore in my opinion. Tony used to be behind the counter running the show, fast service lots of people. It sucks now

When I arrived, it seemed like the kitchen was understaffed. The person at the front was doing his best to take orders and cook at the same time, which I respect, but it did mean a long wait for food. Another table that ordered after me was served first, and when my food finally arrived, the biscuits were unfortunately very undercooked--pretty raw in the middle. I was starving, so I ate them anyway rather than wait even longer, but it was disappointing. The vegan cookie I got wasn't very good either--kind of dry and bland--but again, I ate it because I was really hungry. The biggest issue, though, was the group of five people loudly rehearsing a play at full volume right in the middle of the restaurant. I totally respect the arts and love that people are creating things--but the entire time, they were projecting their lines as loudly as possible. It was impossible to read or relax. I was quietly working on finalizing the publication of my novella, and even though I was doing something creative too, I managed to do it respectfully and silently from my seat. I really think a different venue--or at the very least, a lower volume--would have made a big difference for everyone else there. That said, I'd still be willing to give this place another shot. The food has a lot of potential, and I think with a little more structure and a quieter atmosphere, it could be a great spot.
