This restaurant looked like a nice spot to have breakfast so we gave it a shot. We ordered some coffee, the waffle and the green frittata. Our drink order was taken quickly, but a good 15 minutes went by before ordering food was an option. The wait really wasn't a big deal until the employee, (who I assumed was the manager,) came to take our food order and when asked if we already ordered drinks, seemed unusually offended that my wife turned to look for the waitress that already took our coffee order to see if the coffee was coming before mentioning the order again. Her offense was quickly followed by a brash lecture about the process of making French press coffee. At this point I was deciding whether or not to just leave and go get breakfast elsewhere. The friendlier waitress that took our initial order came back with the coffee so we decided to just stay. I ordered the frittata because I was fairly hungry and it was listed in the "bigger" dishes section. Also, it's very difficult to mess up a frittata. Oh was I wrong! When it came out to the table it looked as if it was a ordered off the "sides" potion of the menu. It was extremely bland and was served with 4 pieces of lettuce covered in dill weed. I stomached this small meal up until the last bite in which I was given quite the surprise! The last bite of the frittata had an extremely large splinter of wood that jabbed itself into my gums! I had no idea what this foreign object was so I brought it to the staff's attention. They explained to me that it was a piece of firewood from their oven. They did apologize and they did remove the frittata from my bill. The waffle was also burnt. I'm saddened to report that overall: I was disappointed with my experience here. DO NOT EAT HERE: first of all the welcoming was problematic - we were greeted with a negative attitude, which only got worse as the meal progressed. Food is terrible, prices are worse. Gave one star because the strawberry rhubarb iced tea was the only redeeming factor, although $6 per glass. First off if the food is meant to be Mediterranean it was not. The "Picnic Plate" contained 2 small pitas, a tablespoon each of hummus and trout salad, 2 dolmas, and 3 sprigs of overcooked broccoli that tasted old and bitter. This plate was $23. The "Bocadillo Sandwich" was a terrible disappointment. The meat tasted old. The only other ingredients in the sandwich were a smattering of old bitter kale and fig jam. This was $25. The total came to $66. Needless to say we will not return and recommend that no one else does. read more

Decidedly one of the best restaurants in Petaluma, already full of some great 5 star opportunities to choose from. We are so blessed here. Our group of 5 sampled (1) Moroccan Hangtown fry, my personal favorite (2) the waffle (3) the brisket (4) a French omlette (5) the cassoulet. All were wonderful. Our service person (don't remember her name) was excellent and efficient. And, the the owner came to our table twice to chit chat with us and see how we were doing. I noted the premises were spotless, and much more inviting that when this place was known as "Luma". Parking is easy peasy as it sits on 1st Street on the river, off the beaten track. It is a little pricey, and this is no fast food joint. And, kudos for the owners stance on the no tipping policy. When you realize you don't have to add 15% or 20% onto your bill, it is an absolute bargain. I shall return. read more

Amazing, high quality ingredients. Prepared with attention to detail and excellent technique. The Middle-Eastern touch makes the food more interesting and exciting, while still being approchable. As was the trout with the Israeli salad - the greens were fresh and well sourced from a local farm, and the touch of tahini in the vinaigrette tempered the slight bitterness of the greens. I just had lunch at "Pearl" for the first time. I'm stunned at how great it was. I met a close friend that has been there before, she raved about it. I've heard several people tell me how delicious it is. I've also had a few tell me not to go. Well, let me tell you, it was fabulous! I had the lamb meatballs with the delicious rice that had lentils in it. It was topped with a fried egg and yogurt with cucumber finely diced. Yum! We were very much looking forward to eating at Pearl's after reading a few reviews. The menu sounded delicious but the food is disappointing. I ordered the Jerusalem bagel plate and my friend ordered the brisket. Both dishes were flat, muddy no brightness, lacked acidity. The bagel was doughy and had no taste. The menu said that the brisket came with soft cooked eggs. The eggs were hard and over done. I come from the Middle East and know what that food should taste like. This did not even come close. I've been looking forward to trying Pearl. The restaurant has a very interesting Moroccan style menu. It's a really cute, little cafe. Nice industrial chic decor with mid-Eastern touches. Our server and the owner were very nice. I wanted to love it. But our first experience (and choices) were not great. The cassoulet was dry and crumbly. We think the beans absorbed all the juices/sauce. And it was served in a shallow, but wide mouthed bowl which also could have contributed to the dryness. Would suggest they serve it in a deep bowl, not as wide, to preserve the moisture in the dish. The beans were too mushy and the flavors of the other ingredients did not stand out. Cassoulet is a favorite dish of ours and we were excited to see it on the menu. The best I've had is at Bistro Jeanty (in Yountville) and Ledford House (in Albion, on the Mendocino Coast). I've also been lucky enough to have cassoulet where the dish originates - Carcassonne. I only mention this to show that I "know" what good cassoulet should be. So I hope Pearl will work on their version and we'll try again. We also had the trout sandwich, which was served on delicious Della Fattoria bread. It came with bacon, beets, urfa goat cheese & pickled onion. It sounded so good, but all those ingredients overpowered the delicate trout. I finally gave up and separated the trout so I could taste it. I noticed that at the table next to me, one person ordered the trout sandwich, and they also took their sandwich apart. If people order this sandwich, it's probably because they really like trout. So, as much as I admire the creative idea of putting all these flavors together, it just didn't work. Maybe use a stronger flavored fish with these ingredients? The main dishes were all quite pricey, in the $22-24 range. But it's nice that they tell you the tip is included in the price. We'll try again. There were so many interesting menu items. They do breakfast and lunch. Maybe the omelet next time. read more

This was a delightful "find" in Petaluma. The restaurant is modern, upbeat with very knowledgeable and friendly wait staff. The food showcases flavors that are unexpected and flavorful. We had the baked egg dish (I think it's called shakshuka; pic included. It was a hearty feast! Fabulous. It was our first visit, and we found it a great experience. Coffee was exceptional, and we enjoyed the cuisine (I had the Israeli breakfast). I'd definitely love to come back, and linger with a coffee. Most of all, I absolutely loved that no tipping is accepted (built into prices instead). You feel like the employees are being paid a living wage, and you as the customer get to avoid the terrible tipping pressure that is rampant throughout American society. Very progressive. My wife and I happened upon Pearl today, never having heard of it. If there's a new restaurant I have to grab a menu to take home, so we grabbed one and started walking back to our car. After reading the menu, we turned right back around grabbed a seat at the bar. Luckily, our excitement about the menu was matched by the quality and freshness of the food and the amazing service. The pita is the best I've ever had and reminded my wife of the fresh bread she'd eaten when in Egypt. The drinks were unique and delicious. My shashuka was delicious and filling, super fresh and clean. My wifes meatball and rice dish was spot on! We were in Petaluma on business and decided to stop and have brunch on a Sunday morning around 11:00am. I searched for local places and this sounded intriguing. We are so glad we stopped in. The food was delicious, I had the McFarlands Spring trout-- charred cabbage & kale salad, sunflower tahini vinaigrette; my sweetie had Cassoulet --tarbais beans & sauerkraut, toulouse sausage, duck confit, poached egg. We shared a small pot of some amazing french press coffee. It was all so wonderful. We chatted with one of the owners, (Sorry my memory is not so good) very,very sweet lady. This place was amazing! Went with my family early Saturday morning. I got the spiced brisket, my sister got the shakshouka, brother in law got the smoked salmon, mom got the French omelette & dad got the Turkish flatbread. Everything was so fantastic! This was my second visit. Obviously I liked it well enough to return, but this visit was disappointing and off-putting. First off, the hostess is so abrasive and hard and cold. If I had not been waiting for friends to join me, I would have left then. Secondly, the food was lackluster and took a long time to arrive. My friend had a brisket dish that was tough and chewy. My cassoulet was pretty unmemorable. I concede, it is a hip spot in a cute part of town. But between the hostess and the mediocrity of the food, I will not be going there again, and I have already warned friends to stay away. read more

WOW. wonderful flavors! We shared the buckwheat polenta, one with a squash topping and another with a walnut basil pesto. YUM. then followed by grape leaf wrapped local halibut. Off the charts flavor. Poached perfectly. Service was great, patient explaining different dishes. And the prosecco with bitters and orange a great counterpoint to everything.
