Hidden treasure of OC. The best and affordable place to get crabs that you can bite through their shelves with your teeth! I have visited Pearson's Port for 10+ years and they always carry freshly caught crabs. I mainly buy crabs from here after getting tired of going to Dory's Dock early in the AM and long lines. I steamed my crabs with beer and lemon with half an inch of water in low medium heat. You don't want to drown the too much water or high heat or all the juices will come out . Turn them upside down so you can keep the juices in their belly. Always pick female because they have more fat and eggs most of the time. Add lemongrass stems too if you like the flavor. Call before heading out and ask them what they have so you don't waste time driving all the way to Newport and come home empty hand. It's near Fashion Island. It is a little hidden but your map should be able to guide you there. Parking - you can park right in front and walk to the cute little store floating on the water. The sea breezes were so refreshing out there.

I absolutely love this place. Everything about it their fish is always so fresh. And the customer service is amazing. Thank you for my Christmas ornament and the cooking instructions.

    Swordfish, very tasty grilled

Stopped by on a whim and scored the best spot prawns, yellowtail sashimi, and swordfish steaks!! Spot prawns are fighty even after hours in the fridge, tasted phenomenal with little soy sauce and wasabi. I pigged out on 2lbs. Drools Yellowtail sashimi is very fresh and yummy. Swordfish steaks are very tasty grilled as well. Overall, a fantastic haul. Definitely a redo, especially for spot prawns!!!

I have been looking for a place to buy spot prawns without having to wake up early and line up at 4 am. Not sure how I missed this place before but it popped up on my online search. They post their weekly catch on Instagram. I'm not sure anymore how much the spot prawns are at Dory but I'm willing to pay a few dollars more to not wake up early and be treated respectfully rather than as if customers are a nuisance. I've called Pearson a few times with questions such as how many scallops are in a pound and they are always patient, polite, and helpful. They also wrap everything up nicely on ice! And they accept credit cards! On to the seafood. The first time I went there I bought spot prawns, clams, and fish. The latter was for my friend and she was it was very fresh. The prawns and clams were delicious. For a surf and turf with my friends, we got prawns - delicious as sashimi and also steamed. We also fried the heads like they do in the Japanese restaurants. clams - little neck clams were huge and so good scallops - sashimi and also seared. These were some of the best scallops I've ever had Fish for sashimi - tuna, salmon, white tail. This was also fresh but I think we didn't do a good job slicing it The seafood here is incredibly fresh and delicious and very fairly priced. I also feel like they are really honest with how they weigh their seafood because I felt like we got tons. There's hardly a line and they have normal hours- open Thu-Sunday. I have no idea why this place isn't more popular. I'm also half afraid to say anything because if the word gets out there will be lines and lines, but I love these small family run businesses that are proud of what they sell.

Ask the Community - Pearson's Port

When are spot prawns in season?

Spot prawns are in season somewhere along the West Coast from February through November. While it may seem like a long time, the actual season in any given locale is short: just six to eight weeks in most places.

Do they process sport fishing catch?

No they do not. This is a very small family operation.

Do they sell sashimi grade fish?

    Yes, they do

    Do they sell fresh oysters?

Everything there is what comes in in the boats. I've not seen oysters there, so the best thing would be to call before going.…

Do they cut and clean the fish/shrimp as per our requirement or is already pre cut? We need customized cutting of the fish and deveining the shrimp

Yes, every morning. And if they run out, they'll do up some more for you. Great people and I can't wait to go back.

I checked in at 20 minutes and the blond that took my order sounded like she wanted to help me but a manager? with red/brown hair said "that's our wait time" and proceeded to talk to the blonde about her piercings. I inquired again at 25 minutes because my order wasn't on the screen. They asked the kitchen guys who had no idea about my order. By that point I asked to cancel my fish tacos order and might as well cancel the soup because it was now cold. No one tried to save the customer relationship. It was "void" and oh-- I can't print you a receipt. Now I have to monitor my credit card charges to see if it falls off because I have no evidence that the tip was refunded. I liked the single-serve salmon portions, as well as ready-to-heat-and-eat meals that Amazon Fresh had. Someone recommended that I check out Wild Fork - also on Brookhurst (at Adams) - so off I went! I stopped by on an early Sunday morning - so luckily, the parking lot was practically empty, as was the store. Immediately upon entering I noticed how bright and clean the store was, wide aisles, everything was organized in its own little section. I started off on one corner and just browsed my way through. Nina - one of the store clerks here - chanced upon me and asked if I needed help finding anything. I told her it was my first time - and she took it from there! Extremely friendly, warm and welcoming - she explained the store's color coded system, pointing out the exotic meats section (they have alligator/crocodile here!!), beef - including wagyu, pork, sausages (they literally have two freezer sections of sausage/chorizo), meals/appetizers, and my favorite section - seafood/fish. After I shared with her my sadness over Amazon Fresh closing - especially because I liked their single-serve salmon portions - Nina pointed out their salmon offerings, and mentioned that their salmon portions are also single-serve, flash frozen (so they stay fresh longer) - but showed me how they were individually wrapped within their own packaging. I picked up a few salmon entrees based off Nina's recommendations, and my own tastes. I know a few people have raved about their frozen pasta meals - so I grabbed a few of those boxes too. Checkout was a breeze - Nina helped me at checkout and shared that the store occasionally has BBQs on the weekends. Wild Fork is definitely a new favorite - hoping to come back and check out the other offerings depending on how everything I bought turns out! Awesome service and introduction to a new customer - thanks, Nina!

The whole experience reminded me of Wahoo's back when they first opened--the casual vibe, the flavors, and even the crowd. I tried the Mahi Mahi Taco, Ono Taco, and Lobster Taco. The mahi mahi and ono were a little on the dry side, but the house salsas were outstanding and completely changed the meal. They added the moisture and punch of flavor the fish needed. Without those excellent salsas, I think the tacos would have been fairly average. The food took a little longer than expected to come out, but luckily I had a cold beer to keep me company.
