This was an interesting experience. Came at around 2:30am on a Saturday to buy some seafood. There weren't that many lights but plenty of people in my opinion. I'm not a big seafood person so I just came for the experience. It's nothing fancy. Nothing was live as far as I could tell. Just possibly better pricing. You grab your fish and then get in line to pay. You can pay an extra buck for one of the workers to help you fillet the fish. (Why not it's only a buck). I only bought one fillet of salmon just to get something. Man I think that salmon tasted better than the store bought ones. When cooked, there wasn't a strong fish smell. The taste was even better to me. Not as dry as store bought (was it the way it was cooked? I don't know). Anyways, it just tasted smoother. Would like to buy from here again. Next time maybe some shrimp as well.

We ordered Dungeness crab from J&D for Xmas Eve. It was perfectly cooked and delicious! We paid $182 for 6 crabs approx 1.5-2 lbs a piece. They were provided in a styrofoam chest on ice. They do not clean them and crack them, but it was easy enough to do with a quick YouTube video. lol ;) I don't think I've ever had crab that fresh before. Everyone was very pleased with dinner!

my parents and i finally decided to check out j&d seafood EARLY saturday AM! they open to the public every saturday morning at 2pm-630am or if they sell out earlier a pretty cool experience overall. there is usually a line to get in right when they open, they cap the line when it gets to capacity inside and let more ppl in once ppl leave. you get gloves before you enter, make sure you grab some plastic bags to put your seafood in once you are inside .. the line wraps around into the next building over. they have a variety of fish, some fresh some frozen, some whole some already fillet or cut into steaks. theres also crabs, crab legs, oysters, clams, mussels different sizes of shrimps.. if you are buying more than you can carry, you can also grab a styrofoam box and there is ice outside to put into your box to keep your pickings cold everyone working were all really nice and friendly. they really do well keeping it clean and organized! we got there right at 2am, there was a line outside and i guess that saturday they opened a bit earlier than 2am so the first group had already entered we spent almost an hour inside, half of it was standing in line, which moves as fast as it can due to only one register. its cash only! we ended up getting two salmon fillets, shrimps, crab legs and halibut collars. it was all reasonably priced IMO..will def come again! also, they have a separate line inside if you want to have your fish cut or fillet! parking: plenty of parking!

Staff is friendly and helpful. Took my mom there for the first time this morning. She found a good amount of things at a good price. Open 2am on Saturdays. Cash ONLY! They can cut fish up for you for a small price. Def recommend if you're into buying fresh seafood!

Spontaneous stopped here once and ended up taking Octopus and squid. The service is great! The guys are always doing their thing out there every morning. Oh yeah make sure you wake up at 2:00 am for this lol, They have many seafood for all your dishes. The place is great. Smells like sea food haha They have parking right out front. Great place to get fish!

Great seafood options! And much respect to the workers here! I love seeing the grind and hustle in motion! My parents and aunt were in the zone here, getting their pick! We feasted throughout the week! We will be back!

I got a whole Halibut, they cleaned and cut up. I received 12 pieces about 6oz each. The price extremely reasonable and the staff were excellent.

I've been going here for about 10 years. Yes, it's a great spot. Joe and Dino and Marco and Carlos are usually always here and they're just great guys operating a very successful business. Everyone here is bad ass and I appreciate their business. J&D are seafood distributors and open up to the public here from 2 am to 6 am on Saturday mornings. I typically get out of bed at 5:15 and get there by 5:45 am when they are starting to close up. I went last week and arrived at 5:50 am and they were already closed. So let the shopper beware -- earlier is always better! Large quantities are popular here - for example, an entire mahi mahi may weigh 20 lbs. At $4/lb, prepare to shell out about $60. I prefer the smaller filets - but those tend to sell out quickly. Sometimes are better than others (depends on weather, holidays, time of year, etc. etc.). Sometimes they'll be cleaned out by 530 am! GET THERE EARLY!! I've had everything here -- from the tuna loins, to swordfish, chilean seabass, snapper, yellowtail, clams, oysters, crab, you name it. All is top quality stuff. However, really look at what you're buying. I never buy the frozen stuff - just the fresh goods. If I can get myself out of bed, I go for it. Great spot in LA for fresh seafood.

Will definitely visit again ! Excellent quality of seafood! Workers seemed friendly also. Many selections. Go early! Whole yellowtail/salmon available for sashimi

My coworkers and I were talking about work stuff one day when naturally the conversation lead to fresh seafood. I was able to scribble down notes to visit San Pedro with the downside being I had to sleep early that Friday. The drive over the 710 at this hour is a welcoming sight with the gradient of alluring colors emanating off the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge. Saturdays are usually when many people are sleeping in, and yet the early mornings here are full of eager, eagle-eyed eel enjoyers. Actually not sure if they carry eel, but they do have salmon, squid, cuttlefish, swordfish, belt fish, Spanish mackerel, tuna, shrimp, rock crab, and even shark! They've got fish cleaning services too, but I figure I'd do that myself. Offerings will depend every week as well as how early you get there. Ice, plastic bags, gloves as well as styrofoam boxes are conveniently provided. I've come here a handful of times now, and it's been kinda cool trying out different types of fish that I was previously unfamiliar with. Sure it's a hard sell being up as early as 2-ish AM but the prices, quality, and variety here are arguably worth the visit.

This is a great place to find that hard to find fish that you might like. The place is small but the prices are amazing. The best part was NOT having to sit in LA traffic since this place is opened at 2:00 am to 6:00 am

If you want fresh seafood at a reasonable price, this is the spot. For first timers we took it easy. I went with the fried fish and scallops. My wife chose the fried fish, shrimp and scallops. The Fry and the seasoning were really good. Everything was nice, fresh, and hot. We washed it all down with ice cold bottled Snapple Lemonade. They don't have well drinks. Besides fried product, they also have a grilled option. They offer outside seating, picnic style. It's not a fancy seafood spot. It's a grab your food, find a table, enjoy your seafood and beer, while hanging out solo or with a group of friends kind of spot. We'll most definitely be returning

Went on Sunday for a quick brunch. Ordered grilled halibut plate, wife ordered fish and scallops, topped it off with a clam chowder and two sodas. Total came out to be around 65$. Fish was just grilled with a ton of oil on the same griddle as everything else, seasoning consists of old bay and that is it. Bland, old bay seasoning. Fish and chip was bland, no flavor. Clam chowder had minimal clams and mainly thick soup base. So unless you think those YouTubers are coming there to say nice things, edit the video, and then post it so they can make content money. I was bummed but dang.... It was DELICIOUS. It's super juicy and flavorful. We also got Brussel sprouts, fried string beans and clam chowder. The Brussels are similar to expensive restaurant quality with a little balsamic vinaigrette and parm, but a really reasonable price. Crispy leaves, a little sweet a little oily but mmmm they were amazing. The clam chowder is perfectly creamy but not too thick. Needs a little salt but otherwise it's up there as one of my favorites. The string beans were just fine but I'd skip them. There had like a fried zucchini batter, well coated and crispy but eh not for me. My partner got the fried shrimp and fish and chips and they loved it. They couldn't get enough of the shrimp. The batter was really light but crispy. Nothing soggy or heavy. The fries are skinny but kinda battered, good. Everyone here is super nice and helpful and felt bad they were out of the fish but obvy not their fault. The beer was cold and the AC hit the spot on a hot day. We'll definitely be back.
