We stopped by at 10:30 PM on a Sunday and the bar was completely dead -- just me, my partner, the bartenders, and a DJ playing to an empty room. Too loud in the bar. Air conditioner didn't work and we sweated our butts off during the most awful "comedy" acts ever, except for maybe two of them. We were wondering if some of the performers were higher than the clouds or if they were just that bad naturally. The seats were these hard metal stools that are inappropriate for the venue so my butt was both sore and sweaty at the end of the show. I don't see myself returning there. read more

The thing I like most about Peckerheads (also known as "Da Peckerhead" for the regulars) is everything. I will start with the obvious - the music. On Friday and Saturday nights there's this really hot guy that usually has control of the music from 9pm-11pm and he plays all the latest tunes. If I'm there during those hours all I see is the most attractive women dancing and having the time of their lives. The drinks are incredible. You want a whiskey coke? Well they can make it! How about a beer? A cold one is coming right of the ice cold fridge. We've all been to those awful restaurants that put non-alcoholic drinks in mason jars. Well at Peckerheads they are the first and only bar in the city to put alcoholic drinks in those same mason jars. So let's say you want a gin & tonic but you don't want it in a boring glass. The excellent service and bartenders there will put it in a mason jar for you! That alone is worth the trip to Peckerheads. The other thing I like about Peckerheads is the friendly staff. Other bars in Austin will overserve you and don't care about your feelings. Peckerheads staff really wants to get deep inside of you. Having a great day? They'll make your day better. Having a bad day? They'll make you the finest Dos Equis this side of the Mississippi and drink one with you. I also like how environmentally friendly Peckerheads is. The other bars in this city don't seem to care at all and run their lights all night. Peckerheads is dark which, obviously, saves a ton on electricity. If you want a bar that's environmentally conscious - chose this one. If you want to be wasteful and hateful don't come here. This place is for classy people only. Lastly, I see a couple of years ago there's allegations of people "leering" at others. That's never been my experience at the door. Usually when I show up to the door I'm given a very firm handshake and I am asked about how my day is going. When they look at my identification they ensure that I am of age and politely and softly let me in. If you don't go to Peckerheads on the weekend you can forget about having a classy and fun time. Congratulations! You and your friend will be drinking for free at this bar. And to a cheapo/broke student like myself, that is music to my ears. This is not generally my scene, but I never say no to a free drink (unless it is being offered to me in a van or behind a dumpster), and the staff has never been anything but nice to me. Just don't be a dick and not leave a tip even if you are getting free booze. Also! Everyone squishes up front (what is up with that? Are these people related to sardines?) but there is a room in the back that is generally completely empty with an aquarium. For people that are as easily amused as I am, this is a highly entertaining way to pass the time. Its worth stopping in on your walk down sixth. Cheap drinks and dance hits. The flight of "Exorcist" stairs into the bar and green, Ecto Cooler-tasting specials might have turned me off any other night. Peckerheads, however, made for a great last hurrah before the 2 a.m. closing time. Drinks served in mason jars are always a charming touch, curbing some of the testosterone out of the place. I've been here on many occasions and always have a good time. This place started off with 3 stars but I give it 4 stars because it manages to lighten up my mood and gets me started for the night. Also, like any normal person, I enjoy watching heavily intoxicated, overdressed girls dance all over guys who are dressed in their sweet polo's and backwards hats. The epitome of class. It's owned by the same people who own Toulouse, Lodge, and Mooseknuckle, so the drinks are about the same in prices - dirt cheap. There are a lot of factors that may make this rating a little biased. I'm from California. This is my first visit to Texas EVER. And I'm probably still a little hungover. But from what I can remember: we stopped by here first and they had an awesome local band playing covers of some chill rock songs. Only... they couldn't be chill because the band had a freakin' SAXOPHONE. It was pretty sweet. And then, after some bar hopping... we came back! We were in search of some hip hop music and Peckerheads was blasting just what we wanted to hear. So overall... I think I'm gonna say the music scene is diverse? It's appropriately named, it seems that the only people that come here are... pecker... heads. Was in here approximately 20 minutes and had one guy shove and try to fight me (I'm a 5 foot tall girl) and another throw beer on the whole crowd including me in my white dress. When I told the bouncer he said there was nothing he could do about it. Never again. Even for a dirty 6th bar, it isn't the best one ever. The music is ok, being a mix of hip-hop and hip-hoppy pop, but the atmosphere isn't great. It's a decent sized bar decked out in old wood so it has potential to be a cool bar for dirty 6th, but many others are a far better choice than this one. Cheap drinks is a plus. The danger of living anywhere near downtown is that you'll inevitably become a regular- Peckerheads is pretty high on my list. Cheap drinks, good-ish top 40 music, and a decent space to dance, which makes it the place we tend to end up at when we have a large group or people visiting. However, the most compelling reason to come in is because no one can resist J, the friendliest staff member at this establishment. His smile/attitude has a way of corralling us in even if it wasn't on our list for the night. You can't ask for much more on dirty 6th. read more

The main reason why I came here was because I saw that they had mason jar drinks - I mistakened this bar for another one I had gone to the last time I was on 6th street (I know... you probably wonder why I can't remember the name of the other place RIGHT?). This place was crowded, loud, dark, and had lots of dancing. It was also really hot upstairs and not a lot of room to move around. I hunkered down on some randomly placed bar chairs that were along the back wall and sipped on my long island iced teat mason jar with friends. We watched a bunch of interesting/ outdated music videos that were playing on the TV's behind the bar and were pretty entertained. I would definitely recommend against spending all your 6th street time here, but those mason jars are quite tasty. It might be a good game plan to get your happy juice here first to prep you for the rest of your 6th street adventure! read more

This bar has great drinks at very affordable pricing. The music here is one of the reasons I continually go back. They have really good DJs and people are dancing all over the place. The girl to guy ratio is usually really good. Lots of people get those big mason jar drinks, but I am not a huge long island fan. I just stick to the H-Bombs, which the bartender, Declan, told me is their number 1 shot. So go dance the night away at Peckerheads and order up some H-Bombs. read more

I bet this place is A-OK on a slow night, but like so many Dirty Sixth establishments, any weekend or major sporting event turns this place into a special circle of drink-spilling, butt-scraping, crowded hell. The Mason Jar drinks are a lot of booze, and a nice touch. When you consider that getting back to the bar nearly requires the chartering of a private bushplane to get over the forest of collegiate dancers, not having to go back to the bar as frequently is a relief. Peckerhead's is a decent premise, and its major flaw is really beyond it's control: popular location and good prices plus sardine-can space limitations means insane crowding, 100% of the time. They could probably stop hawking specials on the street once they run out of space, though. read more

Terrible bar. Went here last Friday, and one of my friends whose is Hungarian mistakenly thought the rest of our group had left (we were inside the photo booth), so she went outside. When she couldn't find us, she wanted to go back in. The door man asked for her ID, and she tried to explain that he had already checked it earlier and she wanted to come back to rejoin the group. I would have just acquiesced and gotten it over with, but English is not her first language, and it was a misunderstanding. When she asked why he needed to see her id again, he called her a b**** and wouldn't let her back inside. When she texted us about it, I confronted the doorman, and he admitted to calling her that, and then asked me if I wanted to fight. I declined, but left shocked at his unprofessionalism. I know a lot of bouncers are thugs, but having one actually wanting to provoke a fight, actually asking me to fight was a first for me. This guy either never was properly trained, or had such a Napoleon complex that he didn't care. Regardless, I learned that I'm too old for some of the sketchy bars like this on dirty sixth which are staffed by thugs with nothing to lose in life. Even if you do want to get trashed for cheap on dirty 6th, there are better options than this dump. read more

This place is for college kids who have a fake ID and want to get smashed off of their faces so they can make out with each other to poorly mixed rap music and then blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol the next day. Its a shit show by 1am. The drinks are cheap and taste like sugar water. Again i think this is mostly to appeal to the younger crowd who don't want a well mixed cocktail or drink- they want to black out without breaking bank. That being said i recommend the Adios Motherfucker, it tastes good, will get you very drunk and is fun to say to the bartender/anyone. All up this place is fun if you are with friends and trying to de-stress from school or work but when it comes down to it this bar is a dump. read more

This is the classiest lounge in Austin. I've seen both Channing Tatum and Beyoncé in this establishment before. The cocktails here are reminiscent of New York craft cocktail creations. The bartenders are professional and engaging, making the entire Peckerheads experience phenomenal and one I want to relive over and over again. A must visit!! read more

Peckerheads is a great venue and I've helped host several bar tabs there. Its a great place to get drink specials early in the night before people really get downtown. When it gets packed its quite a dance party. My only complaint is that its hardly ever packed so they dont ever open up the side room for more space and more bar-estate. Still, I enjoy coming here regardless of if theres a crowd or not. One last note, its up a long flight of stairs so if you're hammered, use the railing or you'll probably die. read more

I've never been a fan of Peckerheads because it looks dirty inside, the quality of the crowd is random, and a bartender once called my friend fat under his breath, but when your group of four out of state girls gets pulled in by a promoter offering free drinks and they don't know that there are dozens of better bars in Austin, you can't be like, "OK i'll stay outside." As the drinks go, they are okay. Nothing you can't get at a different bar. One of my new years resolutions was to stop going to crappy bars. As the friends drag me in, I'm laughing about how it only took me a week to break the resolution, so I decided to foursquare it. Keep in mind--I did NOT tweet Peckerheads directly. I wrote on Foursquare "Broke my new years resolution... See previous tweets about quality of bars." I woke up this morning to a tweet from Peckerheads saying "Glad we could be the crappy bar to help!" with a retweet. Snide, immature, unnecessary, and proof that they probably need someone else running their social media consider they haven't had any other tweets in days and went through all of my tweets to find the actual resolution. I tweeted back: if you want to consider improving, maybe your bartenders shouldn't made side comments about my friend being fat. Cheers! So for real - the place is okay. 2/5 stars, which is a "Meh, I've experienced better." All I'm saying is that if I get dragged into here again being offered free drinks, I won't be tipping. read more

I've come here many nights because its in the middle of dirty 6th! UNFORTUNATELY, every time I have come, I have used a credit card and been way over charged for what I paid.... They ALWAYS give themselves an extra $2-$7 tip on top of whatever you pay for drinks/tip. If you go there BEWARE and USE CASH. I know the police are looking into this for Peckerheads and the Lodge (same owners)...hopefully this won't happen to you! read more

As I approached the bouncer on Friday night, I was digging through my purse for my ID. He must have thought that meant I was underaged (I'm not... by several years) and trying to get in, because he grabbed my arm, inappropriately rubbed it up and down twice, leered at me, and asked me if I wanted to come in. Immediately taken aback, I grabbed my arm away and asked what he thought he was doing. He responded, "What are you going to do, write a Yelp review about it?" Well, since he suggested it! I also went up to one of the many officers congregated on the street to report the situation. The first one was an overgrown frat boy himself and said these things happen because "underage girls like to drink" and maybe I should just "try another bar." Duly noted. The second officer I approached seemed to understand how inappropriate it is for bouncers to spontaneously grab women and suggest there might be a way for them to get in a bar without ID, so he and another officer went to speak with them. Just goes to show you can't wander around 6th and pick a bar without knowing a little about it. Unless of course you don't mind being creepily touched by a stranger on a power trip. Maybe I'm too sensitive, but this kind of behavior really bothers me. read more
