    Calzone
    Ashley S.

Food was amazing. We had 2 pizzas, a calzone almost as large as the plate and then lasagna! Everything was so fresh and made to order. Wine was great and service was spectacular.

This place was FANTASTIC!! A friend suggested it and it was a great choice for our first meal in Venice. We had a little bit of everything. Wine, lasagna, spaghetti carbonara, ravioli and pizza! Everything was perfect, the service was great and the location was beautiful. If you're in Venice, I highly recommend trying this place as you won't be disappointed. Loved it!

I was very impressed with this restaurant. My coworker and I stopped here because this guy right outside the restaurant literally begged us to try the food. We obliged to eat here because we were hungry and I always wanted to try the pizza in Italy. I got my chance and it was amazing. I took my wife here a year later and I enjoyed the food both times I went here. The food is very good and the prices are reasonable. I look forward to coming back here in the near future.

Food is food. Lots of the menu is listed as frozen. Mushrooms appeared as canned and ham was the cheap stuff. The price is the typical inflated prices for crappy ingredients. But none of us died and after over a week of Italian food it was kind of nice for the ravioli and spaghetti to look like Chef Boyardee and the bread to look like they came from a Pillsbury dough boy can. Basically a typical tourist money grab. Great location with high prices and low quality ingredients. Service was okay. Came for the location, left knowing I made a mistake.

Stopped here with my hubby and friends for dinner- the patio was packed and with our last 2 meals in Venice being garbage we based it on the crowd of people. The host Roberto made us an offer we couldn't refuse, "you don't like your first course, you don't pay and you leave" The food was delicious from the buffalo mozzarella, spaghetti alla vongola, homemade lasagna and massive calzones we were not disappointed. The homemade tomato sauce is supreme, which is a comment I rarely make. There are meal options that cater to all budgets. It doesn't hurt to try out this affordable restorante for lunch or dinner.

I was impressed. Warmfriendly service, a great location on the square and a tasty pizza. We also really enjoyed the wine, amarone Della Valpolicella

Didn't have to go far to find this a awesome ristorante. Marco, our waiter nailed it with his attention to detail and us. My husband had the calzone while I enjoyed authentic Italian pizza . The atmosphere was fantastic, with street music in the background at the plaza. Cozy, romantic place. Highly reccomend this place . Congrats to Marco and his new baby son

Was craving a calzone and happened to discover this place amongst the array of restaurants in the area. The servers outside were very welcoming and sat us outside as it was a nice day with great weather. There was not a long wait for our food to come out once we ordered and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of my calzone once it reached the table. The cheese was plentiful and the sauce was delicious, I only wish there was more prosciutto than mushrooms but it was still great. Inexpensive for great quality.

Went here for dinner on our last night in Venice. Someone recommended the octopus so I had to try. I had it in a salad as an appetizer and found the flavor lacking a little. The lasagna that I ordered as a main entry was a little too mushy. But the flavor was good. The white, house wine was very good as was the service. The waiter was a little forgetful but maybe it was just that he was too busy but when we had his attention he was very attentive and friendly. Would I visit again, not sure. Would I recommend is still up for debate....

This is one of the few places you can find a decent breakfast. Sit outside, drink a coffee or tea and enjoy a delicious meal to start your day of exploration. My boyfriend wasn't in the breakfast mood and ordered the calzone. My mouth dropped at the gigantic size when it came out to the table. I'm not sure how dinner is here, but I can definitely recommend the breakfast.

Come here to dine at a leisurely pace! Service was great and they were very accomodating. Here, they leave you for longer stretches of time so that you may dine in a relaxed atmosphere. It's not rushed at all. Food was very simple and very delicious. If you're seeking a place to grab something to eat and rest your feet, after wandering up and down the Grand Canal, settle here.

Good food, pleasant staff, quick service. Located at the main corner before one of the many shopping paths which makes a great spot for people watching.

Total tourist trap. Pasta was very hard and too much salt. Could not eat at all. Pizza was very greasy and crust was super thick.

What better way to spend it than wandering around Venice and enjoying dinner at Rossopomodoro? They're still in the "Italy training program" and these menus tend to confuse them, so after three weeks here I felt obligated to guide them toward the promised land. After much studying, debating, and staring at menus, it was finally time to order. I went with the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, and the wife and I shared a salad. When that salad hit the table, it nearly stole the entire show. We drizzled on a little balsamic vinaigrette, added a shake of salt and pepper, and suddenly we were ready to dance right there in the alley. Fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, crisp greens--every ingredient tasted like it had been picked that morning. It was outstanding. The pasta was very good, but today the salad was the undisputed champion of the meal. Of course, dining outside along Venice's busy walkways only adds to the experience. Watching people pass by while enjoying great food is one of those simple pleasures that makes Venice such a special place. Rossopomodoro delivered a fantastic meal and a great evening. The newcomers survived their first full day in Italy, and I'd say they're off to a pretty good start.

But what they've created can be a very fun experience if approached with the right attitude. Come during daylight hours, hopefully late afternoon (for lunch/drinks/appetizers) and sit only at an outside table along the Grand Canal. Situated near the bridge to Piazza Romolo, Rio Novo isn't on a very attractive part of the canal. Ignore the mass of people hurrying back to the bridge to catch their bus to who knows where. Look only at the canal. This might be the busiest, most intensely crowded part of the Grand Canal and it's a gas to watch. Motorboats kicking up wake, tourists on private water taxis making their way to a more attractive part of town and, once in a while some gondoliers taking passengers in a part of the canal far from serene. Is all of this fun to watch? Indeed. The staff here aims to please and will happily grab your camera and wait patiently for pedestrians to pass by before snapping a few dozen photos of you enjoying the place. After your meal, the server will return with an ice cold, complimentary Limoncello for you. And the food and drink? Very reasonably priced and satisfying (we enjoyed both spaghetti and lasagna), especially when you throw in the waterfront entertainment. There's a million prettier canal-adjacent restaurants, pricier and run by Italians. That said, Rio Novo is a fun place from which to enjoy the hustle-bustle of the canal along with well-priced, satisfying food and drink.
