This was probably the worst Peet's I've ever been to. We came into the shop and saw two lines to order. We went behind the shorter line. As we're deciding what to order, the barrista helps the 3 groups of people in front of us. When it is our time to order, she tells us that there is only one line and that we should go to the end of the other line. This made no sense because she took 3 orders before we got there. Honestly, it felt like we were being singled out because we weren't being served for some arbitrary reason. Do not come here. There are double standards for their customers. read more

This Peet's rocks!!! This morning at 9:00am, there was a LONG line and lots of folks who'd already ordered waiting for their coffee. The order takers worked the line for the plain coffee orders and the baristas ~wailed~ on the espresso machine. This is one of the worst Peet's I've been to. I had one girl spill my coffee all over the cup and still try to give it to me. When I asked for a new cup, she gave me an attitude, and the guy next to her said 'we'll get you a new cup out of the garbage'. I think he was trying to be funny, but timing was not good. WTF? That being said, not everyone here is a dork. There a couple of regulars that are really good, and provide good service. Peets coffee on 4th street , isnt nice as it should be :( I almost peed on myself so i hurry and ordered a hot coco with almond milk , well i was holding my pees all the way from school and was in a rush i used it that left in a rush to be at my appt and i orderd a hot coco to use there restroom well when i got home i realised i left my coco there and i called this guy who was a team member i guess so well i dont see a hot chocolate so theres nottingbwe can do I was frustrated i wasted my money so i said thanks for being none -helpful so i called back to get his name the other leader said i called him a bad word he lied to me i said he was nonhelpful to me i said i want to complain she brushed it off very bad service and unprofessional i used to work for peets this isnt veey nice ..im never going back. I'm not sure why they can only help one person at a time when they have 4-6 employees behind the counter, but I've stood in line for 5-10 minutes waiting for a cup of drip coffee while employees are doing anything but serving waiting customers. This is a tough one; it's right in the middle of the 4th St. shopping district in Berkeley, and very convenient. I think that the coffee is up to their standards, but the crowds and physical space make this one of my least favorite Peet's. The staff is incredibly friendly, but the layout lends itself to people piling up in front of the counter waiting to get their drinks and creating a gauntlet run/obstacle course for those who have received their beverages and are attempting to get to the lids, sugar, and napkins. There's some good outdoor space attached to the store, but it's usually packed and crowded. read more

Going to Peets proved to me how loyal I am to my Coffee Bean. I ordered my usual caffeinated drink of choice, the soy chai latte, and I must admit, it was pretty bland. In their defense, the chai flavor was more potent and thereby noticeable, perhaps more authentic than the one you get at Coffee Bean. But it just didn't taste as good! And isn't taste everything? So, the lesson is, stick to Coffee Bean. Note: I am sure that coffee lovers everywhere will be upset with my negative review of Peets. I will say that I did not try any of their coffee drinks so I have no opinion of them. read more

No bagels so they didn't get my breakfast business today. But the guy playing the accordion today outside was outstanding! I hung out for an hour online and listened to him jam :) Tipped him twice, he's that good. Quite the ambiance and rather Epic performance! Don't know if he is affiliated with Peets or just busking, don't care, but Peets allows it and major Props to them for that! Heck, I went in and bought a tea just because I enjoyed the music so much. I have a really good memory at this Peet's, so my rating might be a little biased. A good friend of mine and I rode our bikes from the campus area down to fourth street. It was a great day and on our way back we decided to stop for a drink. I got a soy iced latte and she got a cappucino and we just hung out in the awesome Berkeley Spring sunshine. I am continually astounding by the volume of business this particular Peet's sees day in, day out, week after week. The Peetniks here are always in Go-mode, handling the orders of persnickity self-indugent Berkeley-ites with efficiency and ease. The well-oiled machinery in motion on the sale floor indicates a fabulous management staff. Fourth Street must have a fabulous manager and I hope Peet's recognizes him/her VERY well. read more

My boyfriend and I usually come to this Peet's location on the weekends when we're strolling around 4th street doing some random shopping and lunch. We came in after lunch and I ordered a small iced coffee and a small caramel latte with just one pump of caramel (they usually add 2 and could be really sweet). The baristas making the drinks seemed to be fast but at the same time their drinks looked really sloppy and it seemed like they didn't want to be there at all. After waiting for a little bit my iced caramel latte came out but she had put 4 pumps of caramel instead of just one. The gentleman who had rung me up must of entered 4 pumps instead of 1 which is an honest mistake but then I had to wait longer for them to remake my iced caramel latte. I used to live in the Berkeley area but then moved to D.C. area and then to Houston. There were a few Peet's locations on the east coast, but the only ones near Houston are in each airport so I've been a bit deprived. I was visiting again so I had to go - and as expected, it was just as I remembered - fantastic! I also opted to take some coffee home with me to share with my coffee-lover friends. Three people behind the counter. One making lattes and pouring coffee, the other two chatting away at the bean counter. I asked to buy a pound of beans whereupon I was directed to go and wait in line at the drinks counter. So, wait I did and then when it was finally my turn, the barrister said I needed to wait longer while he made the drinks people were waiting for. Yes, the other two were still chatting away... I told them they had just lost a customer. They apologized and rushed forward offering me a free drink. How ridiculous, I didn't want a free drink, I just wanted the pound of coffee I came to buy. This is just a review of their restroom. Singular. Restroom. No "s". Disgusting and filthy! The TP holder had two empty rolls of TP. The roll currently being used sat on top of the that. The paper towels were sitting on top of some fixture...and not in the dispenser. My suggestion. If you need to drop the deuce, try Crate & Barrel or Restoration Hardware down the street. read more

I just had the worst service ever in this location. I was as patient I could be, but I was told I was being rude because I was describing the drink that she had just screwed up to her. I asked her to get her manager and she refused. Thankfully I saw him and reported her. What can I say, I love Peet's! Should I give this location a less than 3 star review....probably. It is a mad house in here. Lines for the bathroom lines for the coffee and an overall rushed customer service experience. But all those things don't really matter to me (that much) because I just want my Peet's products and the employees are pretty quick and efficient despite the masses of people. Also, I have to thank the employee who steered me toward the Hibiscus Breeze Cooler. He did take the time to explain the differences between the teas and let me know which had caffeine and which did not. Also, it has weight loss properties...WHAAAAAT????? Not like I'm gonna quit my work out routine or anything but that sure makes me feel alright about the 100 cal I consumed when drinking this delicious lil treat. On the bathroom tip: why why why ladies does it take you 3-5 min to use the restroom in a public place!!! Especially when there is only 1 bathroom for both sexes. It's been a while since I've been to this specific location for various reasons, but I decided to stop by this morning to pick up a much needed cup of coffee on the way to work. Boy, was that the wrong thing to do! I'm not sure if it was the storm that came through the night before, but did all of their employees all wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?!?! Geez Louise! I just want a cup of coffee, not your first born child! There were two cashiers operating in tandem with approximately six people in line. As soon as the guy in front of me stepped up to the second cashier, she abruptly told him in not so many words to get back in line and wait his turn because she's closing that register. I felt bad for the guy as he looked as if he was in a hurry and pretty embarrassed at the same time. Yikes! When it was my turn, I placed my usual order and gave the cashier my coupon for $1.80 off from a previous coffee bean purchase. The guy looked at it and asked me what it was. It took me about a minute or so to explain to him what the coupon was for, to which he was still puzzled and gave me a questionable look as if I was defrauding him and the entire corporation. Since I was in a hurry and was already late for work, I skipped the coupon and opted to pay cash for my coffee instead. Uuugghhhh!! Excellent coffee, but this location lacks in the customer service arena that I'm so used to with Peet's. I've frequented many Peet's throughout the entire state, none compared to this one. Being in the Bay Area, and specificially the Berkeley area, there are quite a few other locations around where I can get my Peet's fix without the attitude. Let's just say that I'm a long term customer of Peet's because of the QUALITY of their coffee... As for their bathroom...I couldn't say. Since I moved to Berkeley, I really started to like Peet's...such as the original location and the one near the downtown bart station. However, this was the worst one I've been to. I had the pumpkin chai latte which was perfect for a sunny, but slightly windy and cool day. I'm tempted to give this Peet's location four stars via my having a consistently good reason to leave my desk (about a block away) every morning and an even better reason to be absent for as long as twenty minutes when the lines are especially long, as they frequently are. But I'm not going to give them four stars only because I don't love Peet's Coffee. Well, to be fair, I don't love coffee. But I don't love the Peet's mocha which is clearly made with Peet's coffee. Nevertheless, I somehow manage to order the Peet's mochas three times a week on average. Trying to be fair here. The outdoor tables and benches don't provide a real dynamic kind of people watching (I'm driven further away when the flute player is in action) but that's not Peet's fault and, not to worry, those lunching ladies with their firmly laquered hairdos will certainly take up the task, wrinkling their noses disapprovingly at all the workers (yes, there are some of us in the vicinity) ambling by in our wild and caraaaaazay blue jeans. Most employees in most every Peet's are friendly, competent, patient, helpful. But this location has my favorite crew. They can generate a good banter and are not averse to shenanigans. Sometimes I want to run away from my job down the street and join them. I stop by every once in a while at this location when I'm in the area. At 11 AM on a weekday, I always get quick service from friendly, but subdued, helpful employees. Maybe I'm the anomaly. Or maybe it's the day and time I come in. But judging from the other reviews, not everyone has had this same experience. Even when they were slammed with the foot traffic from the 4th Street Halloween Fair, they moved the long line quickly and made the drinks as soon as they were able. The new guy used to forgot to ask what milk to add (and when I'm sleepy and in need of caffeine, I tend to forget). But he seems to have sorted that out now. I'll start by saying I am team Starbucks. Peet's drinks taste burnt and/or have a very bitter aftertaste. However when it comes down to it, I'll always choose Peet's if the alternative is no coffee at all. I think their americano and mocha are much better than their flavored lattes or ice blended drinks. I also recommend their jasmine lime tea cooler which they serve during the summertime. This location always has a long line but the staff moves pretty fast. One time during an extremely long wait everyone in line got vouchers for free drinks. If you're lucky enough to snag a seat outside, it's a great place to people watch. During the weekends there's often free music which makes it even more enjoyable. read more

The cashier assured me I would like Peet's coffee and she was right. So I ordered a vanilla mocha iced coffee with whip cream. Great iced coffee first time trying Peet's. I paid for whip cream and the girl that made it forgot the whip cream. I had to remind her their is no whip cream in it. After that was fixed I enjoyed my iced coffee. Nice vibes here and free WiFi. After tryin their iced coffee I don't want Starbucks ever again. Except for the winter time maybe. Starbucks iced coffee taste like trash compared to Peet's. I like Peet's Coffee, but caffeine aside, I come to this location for a specific purpose- to use their restroom. Yes...there's not a lot of bathrooms available along the 4th Street shopping zone. This Peet's has a great outdoor area that's great for meeting random strangers, people watching, and playing with cute dogs. On a recent visit, I chatted with a retired couple and a cute artist. I played with a few dogs and one was shaking my hand a few times. The location has free wireless Internet and is a great place to relax. It's not that clean which is why I dropped the star ratings, but a great place overall. read more

located on one of the designer-type streets in berkeley, the crate and barrel and boutiquey kind of stuff makes it seem like it would be removed from the--how to say this delicately?--unique denizens that line telegraph. and there aren't any of the street vendors but there are a fair amount of panhandlers, which i always find irritating. in general i do like peet's. this one has a smart selection of teas, a terrace for people-watching (the metal bars do not make you exempt from beggars unfortunately) but interior has cool high ceilings with exposed ducting. overall a cool little shop. nice to take a stroll, pick up some reading material from books inc and enjoy some bean. read more

As we were walking up to the store, I was a bit hesitant about going in. The line was super long, there were a ton of people hanging out on the patio (with no chairs), and the employees did not look like they were the friendliest people ever. HOWEVER, the caffeine headache got the best of me and we found ourselves in line. The line went quickly, I got my drink within a couple of minutes, and it was delicious! I'm a Starbucks girl, but the machines at Peets makes MUCH BETTER FOAM. I wish the Bux would go back to the old machines :( There's no indoor seating. There tends to be a traffic jam at the hand-off plane and at the condiment bar. I love that this location has giant bags of coffee beans everywhere-- it means they rotate through all of it quickly-- aka: FRESH BEANS! yay :) read more

OK, Peet's is Peet's and you either think their coffee is god's gift, or too strong, or whatever. I'm rating the staff and the restroom. Both leave so much to be desired. I went two Sunday's in a row, and both times I think it was a "who can be the surliest employee" contest. Did they need caffeine? I don't know, but they were obviously very unhappy people. And the line for the restroom (only a single, for a busy spot) was there, and when I finally made it in, it needed major attention. I tried to point out the need for TP to the staff and got a grunt in return. Very poor form for a Peet's. Most locations are better than that. People and restrooms. read more

Yes there are sometimes lines longer than the ones in the bathroom of Studio 54- but hey its fricken caffeine done right, whadda ya want. I usually try and do the local business thing when I can but when you need a fix ya gotta get it.
