Saigon Cafe on Waters Ave. closed, and that was the last place I knew in Savannah that served that exquisite, clear soup. I always get chicken soup (pho ga). The new owners are doing good work, but I'd been spoiled. The broth doesn't have the depth, and it isn't hot enough. It's gotta come smoking, fogging glasses, clearing sinuses. But Boomy's brings the broth. I've been there two or three times, and it's my new pho go-to. The noodles are wider than At Saigon Cafe, but that's fine; they hold their bite longer without getting mushy. Please note: Boomy's is a bar on Congress Street in Downtown Savannah. It's wheelchair accessible and laid back. A Dad out with his two young boys asked if one kid could use the bathroom and was welcomed ... no purchase, no hesitation. And a lady in a wheelchair with her companion and her dog ducked in for a soft drink and a rest. Everyone's welcome. Nothing about its façade or dive-bar vibe suggests it serves bangin' Vietnamese food. Waitstaff is quick to show you the burger menu on the back, in case pho isn't your jam. Because they serve Thai food as well, they're careful to have you choose your heat level. They're happy to give you pepper flakes on the side and Sriracha at the table. But my pho didn't need it. My lunch companion got the rare beef pho. The hot soup came with thin slices of beef wrapping in foil on the side. Drop it in and it cooks. Looked delicious. My pho ga was amazing. I rarely can eat it all, but I did that day. My only minor complaint is that the bean sprouts looked a little less than fresh, but I'm not a big fan of them in soup anyway. Didn't slow me up one bit. But I AM a big fan of their cucumber and tomato salad. Cukes, chopped tomatoes, grated carrots, and maybe grated radish were all dressed with fish sauce, maybe rice vinegar, and a little sugar. If I'd had some cilantro I would have added it; cilantro is expensive these days. Can't blame them for not including it. It may be available by request. Oh, and try the cocktails. I had the tequila cooler and subbed watermelon vodka for cucumber vodka. So refreshing. Go to Boomy's. Get there on one of the few remaining cool days of spring. Or if you come down with a spring cold. Or if you work downtown in an office meat locker, go to warm up from the inside out. It's worth the hunt for parking.

I am writing to share feedback regarding a disappointing experience I had at your establishment…read more While Ashley provided excellent service when taking our order, the rest of the visit was very off-putting. The pizza itself was dry and lacked sufficient tomato sauce, resulting in a very bland product that was essentially plain dough and cheese More importantly, I had a negative encounter with a server named Julia. When I requested a knife from Julie at the register, she informed me she would bring it to the table but failed to do so. Upon following up with Ashley, I was provided one immediately from the same location where Julie had been standing. When I later addressed the delay with Julia, she responded snarkily, stating "well you didn't order from me and you're not my table so I don't have to get you a knife. I said if you work here and I ask for a knife, if you feel you don't want to get it for me, then as an employee, you get whomever rang me up to assist me but either way, I walked to the cash register and asked for a knife and she could have easily reached under the shelf and handed me a knife just as Ashley did. I attempted to speak with the manager on duty, Justin, but he was busy at the bar. While I was waiting to speak with Justin, Julia brushed past me touching the spoon that was in my hand. After a bit of time passed by, I chose to leave rather than continue waiting. I hope this feedback is helpful in improving both the food quality and the service standards to ensure a better experience for future patrons at your restaurant.

Thankfully, we eventually found this spot. The decor immediately caught our attention, very crazy decor, dark dingy, we love it. We grabbed a seat at a high-top table and settled in for a few drinks. Our waitress was fantastic and worked her butt off all night. Even as the crowd started to pick up later in the evening, she stayed attentive and kept things moving. We ordered a giant pretzel to snack on while we enjoyed our drinks. Nothing fancy, but exactly what we were looking for at the time. As the night went on, the atmosphere definitely became more lively and energetic. My only real complaint is that I wish they had live music. It would have added a lot more to it and given the place a little extra character. I'm not sure if they normally have entertainment on other nights, but it would be worth checking into for next time. Overall, this was a solid place to hangout at, enjoy a few drinks, and escape the downtown bar-hopping frustration. The service was great, the atmosphere was fun, and we'd happily stop in again.

For those who may not know, this restaurant is renowned for the one of a kind decor which showcases the culture, beauty, and diversity of the African continent and cultures woven throughout. I sat at the bar and enjoyed interacting with the staff and bartenders. For my meal, I ordered the African vegetable and dip sampler plate which was fresh and appetizing, as well as the lamb meatballs, which were very flavorful and feeling! The meals on the menu are small plates. One thing that I would like to see for this restaurant in the future is to have full plates on the menu. This will elevate the experience, I heard another patron mention this as well. It was special to dine here on Juneteenth. Cheers!

The food was a bit expensive, but it was a nice experience trying some things you don't eat every day. We ordered the cheese board. I enjoyed one of the cheese on here. I got the nonalcoholic hibiscus cocktail. The chicken skewers were delicious and the meat was soft. The saboob chakalaka was good and the smoked brisket reminded me a little of the Korean bulgogi flavor.
