I was in a hurry and went inside Pei Wei Asian Kitchen because it was convenient and in the shopping center that I had to go to. I placed an order to go, and Maria who helped me at the register was friendly and very helpful. Often when you do a pick up the receipt prompts you to add a tip, and surprisingly this one didn't. That was a nice experience, but of course I always do the right thing and tip with any service. The food was surprisingly fresh and not over seasoned like at most Asian food restaurants. I ordered the chicken fried rice and I got a lot of food with large pieces of chicken. The to go container had seasonings and napkins and a plastic fork and spoon, everything I would have needed if I wasn't going home and I didn't have to ask for anything. Parking was easy and the restaurant was clean and open inside. The atmosphere was simple and bigger inside than I had expected. I was happy with my experience and I would definitely return to try more of their menu. read more

I came here to pick up some food on my way home after running some errands. I ordered the signature lettuce wraps, vegetables spring rolls, crab wontons and hot honey chicken with lo mein and everything was delicious. The lettuce wrap was good but the spring rolls and crab wontons were a much better choice for appetizers. The lo mein is very flavorful and by hot honey chicken was spicy and tasty. I loved how fast the food was ready and the staff thought of everything when it was packed as they included utensils, sauces and fortune cookies. I found Pei wei a few years back in Charlotte nc on a Staycation and fell in love. I hate that there isn't one closer to me so anytime I'm in a city that has one I go. I stick to the Thai curry coconut chicken and a side of the Mongolian green beans. The green beans aren't the most photogenic item lol but they taste fantastic and have a nice crunch. You can tell they are fresh green beans, not overcooked and I would love to just dip wontons into it. The vegetables in the curry are perfectly cooked not under or over cooked. Amazing new addition salmon poke bowl was huge and needed a little more of the sauce. I had the firecracker chicken and that was WOW spicy but great spicy and hot (temperature). My chicken was all just fat pieces and inedible I will never eat here again for the price you pay you would think you would get good pieces of chicken. How do you even end up only giving fat to a customer? What kind of quality of chicken does it have to be I have never in my life had that happen. The staff seem a little distracted now and again but were nice and as long as my food is good I don't care what they do in their down time. Color me surprised, I have driven by the countless "bad" Americanized Asian food joint plenty of times. Today I woke up craving bad Chinese food(you know the urge) and by pure chance I was glancing thru the AA dining program and I saw that I was less than a mile away from here. First think I noticed, it was clean as can be. No grime, no slime. Ordered a classic, honey chicken and it came out hot and fast. And more importantly, it was good.....so good that I neglected to take a photo cause it smelled so enticing I dug right in. I am looking forward to going thru their menu. I put that in all caps because 30 minutes after consuming it I had extreme stomach cramps and fainted because of the pain, I will not get into all of the details, but PLEASE make sure that you do NOT eat this bowl. I came here specifically because when I searched it online and looked at the menu for the Kendall restaurant. There was a wonderful lunch menu with good pricing and excellent choices. However, when I asked the waiter/bartender for lunch menu, he said they don't have one. When I pointed out, I found it online, said that is only for the Coral Gables restaurant. When I showed him that clicking on the menus for Kendall specifically showed a lunch menu he shrugged his shoulders and said I could not have it. I was taking it back because none of the ingredients on the lunch menu were unavailable so it would've been easier to make me what I was ordering rather than blowing me off. But blow me off he did. I was hungry, so I decided to order one of the combinations. It was well priced although higher than what I was planning to pay for lunch. I started with the salad, which was your typical salad that you get an Asian restaurant. What I did like was that they served the dressing on the side, which is really nice because they tend to overdo it when they put it on themselves in most Japanese restaurants. When the food came out, it was to include a California roll chicken teriyaki some sashimi and sushi. The California roll was quite good, although it was very heavy on the rice. The chicken teriyaki was not served with rice, which was strange because it would've been nice with the sauce to have some. The fish was at best average; it was fresh, but it was not particularly flavorful. The overall experience was average. Problematic because of the refusal to serve the menu that they advertise, to be seated in the only area where I could not watch the game that was being televised on the TVs, and the poor attitude when I asked about the menu, reduce the experience substantially and average food is not enough to overcome that. This is a restaurant that I can pass on as there are far better choices for this cuisine.

Dad and Ellen were particularly fun of the spareribs and the lettuce wraps as appetizers, the egg drop soup, the Mongolian beef and the sesame chicken. So I generally will include these among my choices for the evening. I cannot vouch for the authenticity of the egg drop soup, but what I can't say that it is my favorite egg drop soup anywhere. The consistency is somewhat different and helps the flavor linger on the palate. I always enjoy it. The very first time I ate lettuce wraps was actually at a P.F. Chang's. So for me that has set the standard for how it's supposed to taste. So I can never come here and not order this. But I try not to fill up on it the appetizer and have discovered that the way they separate the lettuce and they filling makes it perfect to bring home for a snack later on leftovers. I generally order the chefs feast. This allows me to share an appetizer and have my own perfectly portioned entrée and soup or salad. There is even an option to add on one of their delicious desserts. My go to options are the Mongolian trio or the sesame chicken. Mongolian trio is chicken, beef and shrimp in a really delicious sauce. The sesame chicken is quite good and the sauce is delicious but the chicken is never prepared crispy. This is also true of what they call the crispy honey chicken which tastes great, but it isn't crispy so either change the name or make it crispy. I would like it much better if it were. These meals also come with rice, white or brown, or fried rice with an added up charge. Frankly, the fried rice is not all that good to make it worth an up charge. Occasionally, when with a larger group we will order a la carte from the menu, but often get the same dishes, adding and some additional appetizers like the spareribs. On our last visit, they didn't offer the chefs feast although they told me afterwards that I could've gotten it. That was a little disappointing. My main problem with this particular restaurant is inconsistency. The food is always at least very good, but sometimes is outstanding. I am not sure why it can't be outstanding every time. The dishes vary very slightly in flavor from visit to visit. The food that has crispy in its name is never crispy. The service is also variable. I have been seated and then forgotten until I go and get the waiter and I have waited sometimes over a half an hour to get a check. Other times the service has been impeccable. All of these issues are fixable and while I rarely would give five stars to a chain restaurant this one has the potential but to get there they're going to have to step up their game every time I visit. Incidentally, the few times I've interacted with managers there, they are outstanding. Hopefully they will rub off on the rest of the staff.

It's kind of sweet how the kids are hanging around there doing their homework while Dad is shopping for ingredients and mom is doing the cooking. Dad then comes back and finishes the cooking and they serve up a nice meal. Lastly, the lunch and dinner specials are extremely well priced and might be the best value in Chinese food in all of Miami. Then there are the down sides. They don't seem to appear on any of the delivery sites and so you have to walk in and wait for your order. This is not fast food, which is both a plus and minus. There is a language barrier making it additionally difficult to order. The lunch specials come with a soda, but strangely they don't give you a choice of soda, but just pick one out of the refrigerator for you and don't offer any diet sodas. And they do not let you know that in advance if it's your first time so you'll be surprised by that. All in all, it's very convenient and they serve reasonably good food at an exceptionally good price. And I do love to patronize family businesses. However, the lack of ability to order through the delivery service services is an issue and there are at least two nearby Chinese restaurants with equally good food that are easier to order from for delivery.
