Never knew about this small winery located in Napa. Peju lays in a beautiful vineyard along the St Helena highway. Family owned, created in 1982. Decided to do walk in at this winery and while they didn't have tables available, they had standing reservations. Since we had to wait a bit; they gave us a glass of rose to drink whe we walked around-- its beautiful there! The tasting was fun and the pourer was very knowledgeable. Peju Province Winery is one of the older Napa wineries with all the best aspects of being so. Their large winery and tasting room is located in the Rutherford section of Napa Valley. Parking is plentiful with limo and bus access. This winery is one of the few that still accepts walk in guests for wine tasting. Like most in the area, their tasting fees are rather steep. $40 for standard, and $75 for reserve. Some of the tasting area is upstairs in the older barrel room, with the rest in a more modern style area. I enjoyed the reserve tasting on a quiet Monday afternoon. The relaxed environment was a welcome change from most visits and allowed me time to talk with the host and enjoy the wine. Peju is expensive, but you will taste the difference in their wine. Bottles are around $100 each and up. Peju is not a cheap place and probably gets very crowded. The staff are great and helpful, but they may suffer from the issues common to many Napa tasting rooms. My Yelp review of Peju Winery 3/13/19, ... I started living in Napa three years ago. I'm a transplant from Michigan and never had done, seen, nor partook in wine tasting! I was unaware that prior to my relocation, many tastings in Napa Valley wineries used to be free. However, I can actually enjoy great wines tastings for free, since being a Napa Neighbor! With proof of Napa ID, Valley wineries offer usually free tastings, or 2 for 1 tastings. Or waived tasting charge with bottle purchase. That's fantastic! My picture doesn't capture the enormous size of Peju's ceiling 'umbrella' pieces in one (of three) tasting room. My guess of umbrella size would be 8' x 8' round, covered with material, like puffy purple pleated clouds. Peju has taken to heart their attention to detail of colors, arts and design of the winery, both indoors and outside in the gardens. It is nice to take it all in. Crystal clear, refreshing Peju Province Sauvignon Blanc wine was nice dry, not too "mineral". I purchased a bottle for my wife. My favorite was Peju "Experiment" 2016 100% Cabernet Sauvignon $100/bottle, aged18 months in oak. They produce a lot of wine at Peju. Whatever fits your fancy, they probably have it, especially if you like Classic Bordeaux varieties. You will be able to purchase their wine at the property and at a few select restaurants. read more

I came here with several friends but had a below average/mediocre experience. We were split into groups of 4 due to their safety regulations, however it was frustrating because they insisted on sitting our groups separately even though they sat random strangers next to us less than 6 feet away... I don't know why that is more safe than sitting people that know each other and wasn't offered an explanation. Our server was too nonchalant. He gave little to no explanation of each wine, far less than what I've experienced at other wineries. He completely forgot to give us our wine list and almost skipped over a pour. He kept forgetting to pour other table their next wine and someone had to get up to physically get him. He was rude when it came to paying. Very couldn't be bothered attitude. When we checked in to receive an extra pour, it was the skimpiest pour ever and he seem annoyed about it. The most disappointing part was every wine fell really flat. I usually end up buying at least a bottle at a winery, but I couldn't find one that I liked. I would not pay more than 7 bucks for their Sauvignon blanc... that was by far the worst. The winery grounds are very pretty so that was a plus, but there are so many great wineries to pick from, and with their tasting on par in price with others, I would go elsewhere. read more

What a fun winery find! We were recommended to try Peju at a tasting room in downtown Napa. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon without reservations and were accommodated very quickly. We had the regular tasting and it was great! We got to try a sauce blanc, province (unique to this winery, I hadn't had that blend before and it was surprisingly pleasant), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Cabernet franc (my favorite). Our tasting guide, Ryan, was a pleasure to talk with and overall it was a great experience. I'll definitely keep Peju in mind next time I visit Napa. read more

Peju was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had in my life. It was my first time wife tasting in Napa, so this might not be the best review to compare to other Napa wineries. HOWEVER, (lol) The overall EXPERIENCE and quality of service was outSTANDING! The winery was BEAUTIFUL. The vibes were suuuuper chill, relaxed and laid back. Our host was super friendly, as were all of the guests sitting outdoors near us. As for the wine, the wine was super tasty and indistinguishable from other wines that I've tasted in the past. Peju is a small family run winery which has been in the game for over 20 plus years now. They had this one custom wine blend which isn't made anywhere else in the world! The owner seems like a super sweet lady. She followed my wife on Instagram after seeing the pictures we posted. We took a peak at her page; and found out that she grows everything at home in her backyard behind the winery. Which is AMAZING! You can tell they truly care about their business! We had a wonderful visit with Claudy! We were traveling with our 6 month old and made arrangements for an early tasting. "Family Friendly" hours are in the morning. Claudy was fantastic with our baby which made the entire visit more relaxed for us. We enjoyed her perspective and insight into each of the wines. She offered additional tastings which suited our interests. We joined the club! The grounds are not huge, but charming. The humongous stained glass wall is from Germany. The mesmerizing natural green quartz floor and counter are from South America. I just loved the personal mix of styles around the property. The member events card seemed packed! We got the standard tasting, and all the wines were amazing! My favorite was the 2015 Cabernet!! We all left with some bottles of wine, and we're so excited to drink them. Scott was very knowledgeable and you could tell he was passionate about his job. He was the only good thing about the staff though. They tried to cut short the number of wines to 4 when we'd paid for 5. We had to tell them multiple times after which they gave a small discount on the wines we bought I think but I have yet to get a receipt for these. Visited Peju Winery on Wednesday evening. The grounds were nice and our server was lovely, but the wines were just not very exciting and the smells coming from the facility were not pleasant. Quality: The wine tasting I had at Peju Winery was fine, but nothing really stood out to me. I ended up trying 2016 Blanc De Noirs, 2018 Pinot Noir MMXVI from Calmere Estate, Province, 2018 Zinfandel, 2017 Merlot, 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2017 Proprietary Red Blend. My favorite of the bunch was the 2016 Merlot, but that is not too surprising as Merlot tends to be my preference. However, as much as I enjoyed it, it was not a bottle I felt any need to purchase. The rest of my group circled around Province, a red and wine blend, which our server suggested as a potential base for sangria. It was far too sweet for my taste, and was my least favorite of the bunch. Quantity: The Tasting lists five wines, but our server was happy to share a few others based on our personal preferences. Value: $45 for the Tasting. Ambiance: Peju Winery is located right outside St. Helena, California. Right at the entrance of the winery they have a nice little garden with a koi pond at the center. There is a second garden closer to the actual buildings with several sculptures weaved in. The indoor area is not currently open, so they have guests seated in a tent on the side of the building. It appeared like they did not have a natural outdoor area, so the seating was put together in a disorganized way. And unfortunately in doing so they did not consider the smells. I assume it was from the fermenting wine, but as we sat at our table, we had a constant barrage of terrible sulfur smells, which was a huge distraction. Crowd: Only a few people visiting the winery, which likely had to do with the less than optimal outdoor setup. Service: Our server was great, providing thorough descriptions of each wine and really selling us on the sister winery Calmere Estate, which was where she had her normal taproom duty. Peju's popularity is deserved! My husband and I went for a tasting, expecting a nice event like one has in tasting wine at a beautiful Napa Valley winery. Robert hosted us, and we had such an excellent time -- and we enjoyed the wines so much - that we joined the wine club, ordered an extra case and a half, and went back later in the week to purchase more bottles for the trip itself. The 2018 Merlot is a standout. (It's often available nationwide in wine stores, too.). The 2016 Meritage made me see stars. The excellent background and grape growing history from someone like Robert (he'd previously grown grapes in Sonoma) made the whole experience first class. read more

I first heard of Peju nearly a decade ago from my sister, who mentioned it was one of her favorite wineries. In many ways, I'm the male version of her, just less pretty. Given her recs are always spot on with a high bar, I knew I had to visit. As I write this review, I've since gone several times over a span of 5 years. Wine Membership: I officially signed up during my last visit in August! For context, I've only bite the bullet on a handful of wine memberships because there's so many great wineries and multiple memberships add up! I mean a Netflix membership is $9-$16 a month, but wine memberships usually start at a min $50 a month (based on 3 bottle quarterly shipments at $150). If you go for the reserves, this easily jumps to several hundred dollars a month. I divert, but the TL;DR is I'm quite picky. I have this rule that I never sign up on my first visit, no matter how great the experience is. For me, consistency is key and that means not only service/hospitality, but also the wine across different vintages. Also, the membership needs to be flexible, Peju allows you to swap the pre-selected bottles with anything else you like. Sadly, you don't see this flexibility among most wineries these days. Service/Hospitality - I've never encountered any staff members that weren't kind, helpful, or knowledgeable. In particular, I want to give a shout out to Harvey who was our hilarious and knowledgeable wine educator. He really sealed the deal for me on the membership this time around. I love it when people are passionate about what they do and he clearly has one for wine and people. As a fellow gemini, and Bay Area native, we definitely got along with each other instantly. Definitely ask for him on your next visit, you won't be disappointed! Wine - They have a good range from white, reds, and even a dessert zin. I particularly enjoyed the Sparkling Rose, Fifty Fifty, Sketches, Merlot, but absolutely loved the '15 Cab Reserve.   Tasting Fee - Is currently $45 for ~6 wines. I've always wondered about this winery because I've passed it several times when I've been in Napa. I won a pair of Pawsports from the Napa Valley Humane society, which entitled us to tastings and such at a select 17 wineries. Peju was stop number one for the trip. The landscape is beautiful! I wouldn't mind just coming here to admire the grounds and the building. Our server was nice and humorous. We had a handful of whites and reds for the special tasting, including a Private Reserve 2004 Cab Sauv. Their Rose version, called the Provance was my favorite, needless to say I snatched up a bottle to take home. They have quite a bit to look at in the store including their on mustards & lots of cookbooks such as the Ad hoc & French Laundry cookbooks. Peju is fun to visit, taste, and browse at. read more

Just because I don't drink doesn't mean that I can't have a good time. Napa is such a beautiful place that I love to see all the beautiful wineries and enjoy the people watching. Since one of the gals in our group is a member, it was nice to see that we had priority service on the Saturday that we came. If you're thinking about becoming a member, this perk is worth it alone when there are tons of people waiting for their wine tastings. But before I talk about the stellar service, I have to talk about how beautiful this property really is. From the road, there are these enormous fun trees that all curve and lean to form arches welcoming you onto the driveway. The property itself is almost like a modern day Cinderella Castle. Can you say Photo-ops? As my friends were all doing their tastings, I walked around and explored a bit and was able to enjoy the art work and photography that was displayed throughout. The mini gift shop was also a cute little spot where you could buy souvenirs. The gal (I wish I knew her name) that was hosting our wine tastings was engaging, funny and a general pleasure to be around. There was one wine in particular that she nicknamed the "Patio Pounder" which is a wine she described drinking while sitting out on the patio, soaking up the sun and pounding back the glasses. Had the absolute pleasure of visiting this winery while in NorCal for work over the weekend. Despite not being on the list of recommendations from friends who have been to Napa before, it will always be on my recommendation list in the future for other visitors!!! From the gorgeous natural beauty, to the super interesting history, to the exquisite facility, to the perfect cheese board selections, accompanying the perfect wine flight -- I am so happy I stopped in here! Of seven winery visits in one day, this was a top two favorite. The ambiance, service and offerings were unmatched. And the place is huge. It has a ton of tasting space and lots of employees. When we pulled up and walked in, we thought they were giving away something. Then we presumed it was commercialized offerings that could not compete with the boutique establishments we loved so much. Boy were we wrong. Jeff Vaughn knew his stuff. The wine was out of this worldly great and the prices were competitive. All of this helps explain why this winery produces the seventh largest amount of wine in area. Of the pours, the Provence, Merlot and Petit Verdot were the bottles we could not leave without. That said, I am not a Merlot drinker but the 3% Malbec made all the difference. If we had decided on the others, I would have left with this one. If you buy two bottles, your $25 tasting fee is waived. If you buy a case, shipping is $5 bucks. Also, we learned of a gadget which allows you to pour a taste of a great bottle without removing the cork and compromising the flavor. I suspect the BF will have to dream about Coravin because we left without one. That said, I suspect there's one in his future and from what we were told, they are cheaper here than anywhere else. read more

I have to admit that I prefer beer and champagne to wine, but I can appreciate a nice fine wine like the rest of you. My guy and I were hoping around the wine country when we thought we would do one final sampler before dinner. I checked out the Yelp app and found that not only was Peju open until 6pm, but you get TWO free wine tasting ($15.00 value each) with your check in. Score! So while waiting, we walked around the top floor art gallery and grounds taking photos and soaking in the early sunset. It really is a beautiful building with lovely grounds. We were brought into the tasting room, where we fit right into a large tasting group. The wine guide was an entertainer, he lead the group and was very informative. He rapped, he played the guitar, he had comebacks like no one could. It was a lot of fun. It was more than just a tasting where people get thier drink on, it was informative too. Probably the best winery we went to yesterday. It's family owned and has a pretty rich history, so we decided to give this location a shot as this was the first winery my gf had ever been to do. Time to relive the memories. This is a classy one and there is a bit of a wait time compared to other wineries before you do your tasting. We were about to leave, but were told that they would take us right there and then. The presentation was very well done, and I must suggest the Piccolo wine which was the best they I tasted here. There is also some guy who is supposed to sing here, but I didn't catch him. Still, the grounds are beautiful and the stain glass windows upstairs were a sight to behold. Take your time here and explore and I'm sure you'll enjoy it even more than if you were to drink and leave. Great place. read more

I was pretty excited to check this winery out but didn't think that the customer service would really make the experience turn to crap. When you first pull up to the joint, you'll notice how pretty and charming the landscaping is. When you walk inside, it's also very nice. We waited a short 10 minutes to get a spot for tasting. Why 1 star? Ryan, a server, played favoritism. I came with my wife and were placed at the end of one of the bars. Standing next to us, 4 young white females going to a music festival in Napa. The extremely rude server, Ryan (who I am pretty sure is not sommelier by how unconfident he seemed about the wines), ONLY addressed the 4 girls, joking with them, letting them open bottles of wine, talking about the music festival and smiling. He came to us, not making any eye contact, and just flatly saying the title of the wines without telling us any details, and walking away to flirt with those girls (dirty man wearing a wedding band and flirting). It was very clear he only was addressing the 4 girls and not us. We are both Asian and I felt the harsh racism this brings to Peju winery. Please do yourself a favor and keep your money away from this racist winery. read more

I've been to this winery 4 times already and I liked it every time I visited! Wine tasting fee was $30 (I believe) per person but if you check in Yelp then you'll receive free wine tasting. However, if you don't have a smart phone to check in, you can always buy their wine and they'll always waive the tasting fee for you. We always buy at least two bottles of wine and we never had to pay for their tasting fee. We loved their red wines and the one we always buy is Provence, California Red & White Blend. Very nicely blended and good for any occasion in my opinion. Service is always great here and we always satisfied after visiting. We'll be back again for sure! read more
