Great Chinese food when you're on the go. Food is tasty and not greasy. Steam table items are fresh even mid-day. Super fast friendly service.

Plate of Vegetable lo mein, fried rice, orange chicken, broccoli beef spicy

The set up when you walk in to order is all the food is already cooked and you pick and choose what you want. We both ordered the plate of food which we got 4 items to choose. I got the vegetable fried rice vegetable lo mein, orange chicken, broccoli beef spicy. My husband got the orange chicken, broccoli beef spicy, fried shrimp , teriyaki chicken. He also ordered the dumplings which he thought was the best on his order because they were made fresh. I loved my food and I think maybe for him he wasn't so impressed but perhaps the teriyaki chicken and the fried shrimp , he thought maybe it was left out for awhile because it tasted dry in some spots . Over all I loved my food and ate mostly everything , there was a tough part in my beef which was a tiny bit chewy but the rest of it tasted good and beef can be hit or miss quite honestly and so I just put it to the side and kept eating . The one thing I love is seeing how much food they pack into the box. We sat there and ate our food and we thought the staff were nice, plus the setting of the restaurant. We would come back here and would like to try the other items on the menu .

4 stars for friendly service, conveniently located off the freeway, generous portion sizes, and good prices. The flavor of the food is just ok. We stopped by on our drive back to the Bay Area and saw that they had a deal... buy 3 combos get 1 free so we got 4 plates for $38. We liked that you could see the food before ordering; that's always helpful when going to a new place.

The food is actually good here. You can get a plate or just a bowl and they still serve you a lot of food. Definitely worth the money

Excellent fried dumplings, crab Rangoon, pork lo mein, hot and sour soup. The soup is especially healthy with very fresh vegetables.

It's okay. But considering that the price has gone way up and the food quality has not... It's okay if you get the food when it is fresh.

They have a lot of plastic and plush toys behind the counter and some shockingly pink artificial orchids on each table top. *Food: this is where I went weak in my knees after sampling the spread in front of me. Such simple yet mind bogglingly delicious food! If it were not for the large amount of grease across the dishes, I would have rated this as my favorite Chinese restaurant in the bayarea. We got chicken fried rice, chicken chow mein, Mongolian chicken and chicken with green beans. Fried rice was moist and umami rich. The noodles had a thick delicious sauce coating them. The green beans were addictively crunchy. The chicken was soft and flavorful. I reached my happy place after this meal.

The flavors were solid especially with the sides in the dinner plate meal. From image: The wonton soup itself was an absolute behemoth packed with enough food for two.

It opened, closed abruptly and then closed again after having very spotty service. I would often call the Monterey Jacks to see what was going on with the Aptos store. Despite it being the same business, the staff at both were always put off by my genuine questions. Especially given that I LOVE thier food and have written very positive reviews. When I called to find out why the Aptos location closed again without notice, it was like I was majorly inconveniencing them. Maybe, thank you for your loyalty. I literally ate their food at least 4 times a week. And I will go to the Monterey store to get those little dumplings I love so much. But maybe instead of treating customers like their love of your food is an inconvenience, have some skills at turning the experience to a win. So I ask here, why did Jacks Aptos shut down again?

I'm happy to say that now there is a decent asian place that we can drop by if we have a craving or if we are bringing overseas friends to the aquarium. Very clean interiors, you seat yourself and order at the counter. We had the beef noodle soup, veggie noodle soup, and the XLB. The beef noodle soup was mostly soy sauce based, not too salty, just the right amount of savoring. The meat was not beef shank, but a leaner cut with less connective tissue so don't expect any chewy tendons. And the noodles were cooked with just the right chew. XLB was only okay. Not terrible but not something I would order again. Overall decent, and for Monterey standards definitely a 4 out of 5. Obviously cannot compare to beef noodle shops in the south bay, but this will do if you are spending a day touring the local area and have the craving for noodle soup. No free water here by the way, you'll have to buy a bottle of water at the front counter so plan accordingly.
