Been to at least 50 different Chinese restaurants in my life and China Gourmet has THE best lunch specials in terms of taste, food quality/quantity and price. If you're wanting a great meal after wine tasting, come here!

Wonderful and friendly service with amazing and delicious food! The dining area in the restaurant is also very clean with great lighting and is decorated with beautiful Chinese paintings. I strongly recommend eating at China Gourmet!

Best Chinese food I've had in a very long time. We drove all the way from Pismo Beach, well worth the drive! BBQ Pork Chow Fun - Amazing Pupu Platter - Amazing (especially beef skewers)

    Delicious twice cooked pork.

This is a really great lunch special, beautiful presentation in a special bento style box -see the photo. The food is very fresh, tasty, and large portions. Loved the pretty ambiance, great service, and tasty food. Highly recommended!

Really really hoping the food is extremely good because the prices on their online menu (mind you, from 8 years ago) aren't accurate at all and I was way over charged more than I expected, so REALLY hoping the food is amazing otherwise I'd never come back or suggest this place to anyone. It looks shady not having your prices accurate on yelp, your website or your menu. Hella disappointed especially because they were rude on the phone as well. First time trying this place, not impressed at all.

New to Paso but already found my new favorite restaurant for Wonton Soup, Orange Chicken, and fried rice.

China Gourmet, located in Paso Robles, serves Chinese food with really fancy, upscale dining. They have an extensive wine wall with an incredible amount of local wine available! Their Chinese food is one of the best around, in my opinion. Everything we order is always fresh, super hot and absolutely delicious! My husband and I usually order chicken chow mein, orange chicken, sizzling black pepper steak and crab rangoon - Amazing!!! Only thing to note is that they are quite pricey (probably due to the fact that if you dine in it is quite fancy). We usually only order to-go/for pick up, so the price is a little steep since we're not staying in dine in, but, it's worth it in our opinion as good Chinese food is hard to come by in this area! Highly recommend if you're looking for really delicious Chinese food that never disappoints!

Everyone was warm and friendly, our server was very attentive without being overbearing. The food was also excellent. I had the Lamb (medium rare) with potato mash and asparagus plus an Old Fashioned, while my wife had the filet (medium rare) with roasted potatoes and broccolini plus a Margarita. The only criticism I would make is regarding the bread (which was free). It kind of fell apart and wasn't great, but the sauce provided with the bread was excellent! I would suggest they find a local bread maker to supply their bread. Normally I'd say just remove that from service altogether but the sauce was so good that I'd hate to see it go. Again, we didn't pay for it and it wasn't a huge issue, but it was the only thing that stuck out. We would highly recommend to friends and will definitely be back!

She recommended sitting at the bar, so we did just that, and it was such a good choice. It was really fun to watch them cook and get to chat with the owner while he did so. While everything else in the meal was also really good, this was the highlight and I'd absolutely get it again and again. For mains we got the scallop and scampi pasta over pasta and the trio fish plate special. Narrowing it down to these two wasn't easy since everything on the menu sounded good. I would get both items again, but will probably get something else next time just to try more of the menu. We came in right as they opened on a weekday evening, so we had the place to ourselves to start. It did start to fill in fairly quickly, so I would imagine it gets crowded on weekends.

Our server, Danny, truly made the evening special. He was welcoming, friendly, attentive, and had such positive energy throughout the night. We had our little ones with us, and he was incredibly accommodating and patient, making sure everyone at the table felt taken care of. It's rare to find service that feels so genuine, and Danny absolutely knocked it out of the park. The food was phenomenal from start to finish. We started with the bone marrow appetizer and turned it into a luge--which was such a fun experience! We also ordered a basket of fries with the goat cheese ranch for the kids, and even those were amazing. For our entrées, we had the Pork Chop Milanese, the Wagyu steak, and the Etto Truffle Pasta. Every single dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. It's hard to pick a favorite because they were all outstanding. The cocktails deserve a special mention because they were an experience all on their own. We ordered the whiskey-forward cocktails, with one arriving in a smoke-filled box and the other presented in a lit, smoke-filled chest. The presentation was theatrical, creative, and so much fun while still delivering incredible flavor. To top it all off, Danny surprised us with sparkling wine to celebrate my husband's birthday, which was such a thoughtful and memorable touch. From the exceptional service to the unforgettable food, creative cocktails, and warm hospitality, this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. The restaurant is right in the heart of downtown Paso Robles, making it an easy stop if you're exploring the area. We had reservations through OpenTable and arrived a little early. They seated us within a few minutes, and although outdoor seating was available, it was around 97°, so we were happy to wait for an indoor table. The inside has a really cool Spanish hacienda vibe with rustic wood beams, warm lighting, and plenty of unique décor to take in. It's a fun space with lots of character and is connected in the back to the tiki bar next door, making it easy to continue the evening with a drink. The atmosphere was lively without being overly loud, and we really enjoyed the classic '80s music playing softly in the background. The oysters were fresh and very good. My wife ordered the ceviche and enjoyed it. I had the hanger steak salad--it was decent, but I'd probably skip the beets next time and order something different. Overall, the food was good, but it didn't quite rise to the level of "great." Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, Fish Gaucho is worth a visit for its downtown location, unique Spanish-inspired atmosphere, and solid food. While there are probably stronger culinary options in Paso Robles, we'd happily come back to enjoy the ambiance, check out the connected tiki bar, and sample a few different menu items.

It came down to three local restaurants, and Il Cortile won out based on location and the type of cuisine offered. I made reservations a week ahead of time to ensure we'd have a table. I did ask for an inside table, but we were seated outside in the courtyard -- which, as it turned out, we actually preferred. Inside was quite cool; mind you, it was still in the 80s when we walked to our 6:30pm reservation. We were greeted and promptly seated right outside the front door, and the patio area was lovely -- much quieter than what we saw and heard inside. Our server greeted us, and we ordered a round of drinks as a small loaf of crusty bread was served with an olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce. Our drinks arrived and we were ready to order. For antipasti, we chose the Caprese Salad and Carpaccio di Tartufo. For primi, we went with the daily sea bass special and Agnolotti di Mais. The presentation on all the food was excellent. The salad was super fresh, with wonderfully flavorful tomatoes. The carpaccio was thinly sliced, with a nice sauce and shaved truffle. When the sea bass arrived at the table, it looked dry to me, but the inside was quite moist and full of flavor. The agnolotti was rich, with a great use of sweet corn, truffle, and pecorino Romano. All in all, a wonderful dining experience. We ordered cannoli to go before settling up the bill and heading out. Would love to return at some point.

Instead of being seated, we were told to come back in 20 minutes. When we returned, we were then told it would be another 25 minutes. At that point, it became clear that the reservation system meant very little. What made the situation worse was the lack of any proper waiting area. There was no lobby, no comfortable place to stand, and no bar seating available while guests waited. The dining room also looked extremely crowded, with tables placed very close together, which did not create a relaxing or upscale dining atmosphere. The front-desk experience was also poor. The host seemed very young and inexperienced, and there was little sense of professionalism, apology, or customer service. When a restaurant is running that far behind, especially for guests with a reservation, the staff should be trained to communicate clearly, apologize properly, and offer some kind of solution. For a restaurant that presents itself as a nice Paso Robles dining destination, the experience felt disorganized, overcrowded, and poorly managed. Making a reservation weeks ahead should mean something. Instead, we were left waiting with no real hospitality and no confidence that we would be seated anytime soon. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Il Cortile Ristorante, especially if you are planning a special dinner, visiting from out of town, or relying on a reservation.
