We found this spot with our noses. While leaving Albertsons, I kept catching the aroma of roasted garlic in the air. The smell was so good that I drove around the strip mall parking lot trying to track down the source. That search led us to China Gourmet, a very unassuming restaurant tucked away in the shopping center. Once inside, you're transported into a charming mom-and-pop Chinese restaurant. The décor is simple, comfortable, and fitting for the space, creating a welcoming atmosphere. After looking through the menu, we decided on the Chef's Special Dinner. For our entrées, we chose the Chow Fun Noodles with Beef, Sizzling Black Pepper Beef, and Chicken Fried Rice. Appetizers included Egg Rolls, Deep-Fried Shrimp, and BBQ Ribs. The meal also came with a bowl of War Wonton Soup. Everything was freshly prepared and made to order. The ingredients tasted fresh, the flavors were well balanced, and every dish was cooked properly. The standout item for us was the Chow Fun Noodles with Beef. The tender beef and perfectly cooked noodles made it the highlight of the meal. Everything paired nicely with a chilled glass of Hexamer Riesling. To top it all off, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, and all of our dishes arrived in a timely manner. Lemon chicken, orange chicken and walnut shrimp with a side of ribs and special fried rice was on point with boasting flavor and serving sizes to share. This place took 2026 restaurant of the year and I can say you will not be disappointed after you try it. Staff is cordial and friendly along with a great atmosphere to sit for a while and chat. If we are lucky enough to travel again through Paso we will most likely have to stop for a delicious meal. read more

The food is good, not great. Expensive They never get the to go order right. We order the same thing and every time they forget the steamed rice. When I place the order on line it asks if I want steamed rice or fried rice. The egg flower soup was very bland and the fried rice was dry and crunchy. I think it will be a long while before I order again. Dropping $100 on mediocre food is not something I want to do again. read more

This was the second time we've ordered for pickup.. the food is alright but I find its veggies and pineapple ( sweet and sour chicken) were all hard.... a little more sauté time was definitely needed. It used to be good, but there was no flavor at all with the food. I had the luncheon special, only because the wait staff kept coming and asking me to order. Four times. I was planning to have lunch and get food to go also. Gave in ordered lunch special, and pork spring rolls. There was no flavor to any of food , just texture. it was disappointing, as I've been going there for many years. I also did not appreciate the wait staff hovering, felt as though I needed to rush to eat. Which I do not do . I did not order food to go . They lost that sale. Due to pestering me to order . Three different waiters asking me to order, when clearly, I was looking at the main menu, finally fourth time I ordered luncheon special. They lost $$$. Too bad. read more

Have eaten here a few times over the past couple of years. And never super impressed. Popped in today because I was starving and there was nothing else in the area. The plus is it's very fast. They have lunch specials that are somewhat affordable. But the quality of the food is not great. And it just doesn't resemble Chinese food to me. Granted I have eaten Chinese food in Singapore, New York, San Francisco, and Vancouver. Well, this seems to be owned and operated by Chinese people, they are either catering too much to the local population or they have lost their passion for food. read more

China Gourmet, located in Paso Robles, serves Chinese food with really fancy, upscale dining. They have an extensive wine wall with an incredible amount of local wine available! Their Chinese food is one of the best around, in my opinion. Everything we order is always fresh, super hot and absolutely delicious! My husband and I usually order chicken chow mein, orange chicken, sizzling black pepper steak and crab rangoon - Amazing!!! Only thing to note is that they are quite pricey (probably due to the fact that if you dine in it is quite fancy). We usually only order to-go/for pick up, so the price is a little steep since we're not staying in dine in, but, it's worth it in our opinion as good Chinese food is hard to come by in this area! Four of us went there for dinner, we ordered the wor wonton soup for 3 people since one of the people in our party is a vegetarian and it has meat in it. There were only 5 small wontons plus some meat, shrimp and vegetables. On the menu it is $18.95, yet they charged me $25.95. When I questioned the charge, they said because it's for 3. The large soup says for 3 - 4 people on almost every Chinese restaurant menu I've ever been to. I have never been extra on a large soup for a 3rd person. We ordered salt & pepper calamari and had to send it back as it was very undercooked. The "recooked" one was barely more cooked than the first. The service was very good, but the undercooked food and extra charge on the soup will keep me from going back again. Too bad, as it used to be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants on the Central Coast. read more

Honestly, good overall service and food. The interior of the restaurant is amazing (conflicting with the outside). I try different things on the menu each time and they haven't missed. Excellent Chinese food! The appetizer war wonton soup.. the chicken broth was rich and flavorful.. I think they cooked the broth for hours! The black pepper steak.. the beef was melt in your mouth tender!! We came from Anaheim Ca to spend 5 days in Pismo Beach and we stopped at Dover Canyon winery in Paso Robles to pick up my favorite bottles of wine, Cujo Zinfandel. We had a taste for Chinese food and this was the best reference and yes it was truly the best! read more

Located in the Albertson's/CVS center on Niblick, it's a convenient location next to my local UPS store and Dry Cleaners. I went for lunch, and the place was packed. Great menu, full of delicacies. The prices are on the higher side, but they have lots of lunch specials well-priced at right around $15. Sweet! I went with one of their lunch specials, Hunan Pork. It came with a choice of soup, white or fried rice or chow mein, along with salad, an egg roll, a fried pork wonton. It was a very nice portion, and I ate it all up. With that said, it's not great as compared to LA or the Bay area, but it's really all we got in Paso. So, it's delish. Nice, efficient, but all business service. I'll be back. read more

The place looked amazing, the fish tank right when you walk in was so fun! They have a whole wall of wine to choose from and lots of dining area. Highly disappointed. First time in town, I ordered fried rice with beef and requested no veggies. That's about the only thing that went right with my order. I ordered take out and got no utensils which I don't quite understand considering it's take out. My beef was all fat and looked undercooked. Rice had no flavor. And personally the portions weren't adding up to the price. It came out to around $20 (normal side portion). Now I have to go find food elsewhere for the night. read more

We came into town for the day to visit the local Mid-State Fair and should have stayed away from this strip mall Chinese restaurant...with its missing neon signage (letters missing from their sign for China Gourmet). Upscale decor inside and yummy rice, did not make up for the poor quality food. Such slimy beef in a dirty strip mall! Ugh. read more

Dinner last night, chose the #A, Happy. Started with the HOT and Sour soup, superb. Then the appetizer of an Egg Roll, Shrimp and a Wonton on a bed of cabbage served with sweet and sour sauce and a hot mustard. Perfectly fried and delicious. Entree was Pork Chow Mein with Fried Vegetable Rice and shared that with the other person's Lemon Chicken. Was quite a great "Happy Meal".
