If you are looking for a place to feast on some classic Chinese dishes - you truly should not look much further than Peking Garden in St. Paul! I had not been here since before the pandemic and hadn't realized they had moved but it still has all of the same great dishes and feels just as spacious! My family orders about 4-5 dishes to share family style but my ultimate favorite is the Peking duck with extra steam buns. The duck is cooked to absolute perfection with a crispy crunch and melt in your mouth texture. Paired with a fluffy steam bun, some veggies and hoisin sauce, I would be perfectly content with just that!! Service from the wait staff can be very hit or miss; things like refilling waters, getting your check, or simply asking for additional silverware can be a challenging task. It is generally quite busy and the staff are tending to multiple tables so it is completely reasonable but can be really tricky flagging someone down. This place is absolutely phenomenal!! I love going to this restaurant and it will forever be my number one Asian restaurant. Some staples I get every time I go is the salt and pepper and they stir fry pea tip. The fried squid has a nice crisp around it and when u bite into it there's a nice chewy piece of squid inside. I've been here three times since they opened in their new spot. They never fail to hit the spot. My review will be my most recent visit and I will review the dishes ordered. Seafood Tofu Soup: A family favorite to start the meal with a warm, seafood flavor soup. Dices of soft tofu melts into your mouth with each bite. Shrimps, eggs, and peas are in the dish. Chicken Chow Fun: Usually a family favorite with the pan fried fun noodle and a choice of meat. This time we chose chicken. Stir Fry Pea Tips: This meal is never complete without a vegetable dish and you can't go wrong with this dish. Pea tips stirred fry with a hint of garlic. Seafood War Bar: This would be the most disappointing dish of the night for what I got compared to what I was expecting. For its price, you get two tips of the lobster tails with lobster meat enough for only a bite. If you are not a fan of water chestnut, this comes with it. We went to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary on Wednesday 4/16/25. The food was delicious , but the service left us not wanting to return. First, it was Wednesday. The restaurant was empty, but waited and waited to be seated. Finally a busboy sat us, and gave us 3 menus, we had 4 people in our party. We ordered an appetizer from our waitress, she forgot it. Our drinks and food were delivered quickly, but that was it. We had to flag down a person to ask for our forgotten appetizers, then we did not hear from anyone. We ate, sat and waited and waited. We would have liked more drinks, but no that was not happening tonight. We continued waiting, the same busboy that sat us down must have felt bad for us because he brought us to-go containers, then we continued to wait and wait. Looks like I forgot to write a review about this restaurant from the last time I ordered from here via Uber Eats... so here we go. I think this restaurant is one of the best in the Twin Cities. Every time I have ordered food from here, it has always been of high quality (although somewhat greasy at times). The service is quick and friendly, and the interior is quite nice. Some of my favourites include the house fried rice, beef with American broccoli, and the roast duck. But honestly, I feel like anything you get from here is good no matter what. One star taken off due to prices being a bit higher than necessary in my opinion, and the overall area this restaurant is in. It gives off unsafe vibes. Didnt know if it was just part of ththe dish since it was my first time ordering. Food/Drink (80% 1.5 star total): Salt and Pepper pork chops. I loved how they slice the chops thinner, so the surface area is maximized for flavor and crust. Stir fried Ong Choy. my family and i stopped by peking garden for a late dinner (10:30pm). we were seated very quickly and were greeted with smiles. they are family owned and all staff are very friendly. we ordered a lobster meal (for 4 people) and it was about $100. there were other dishes that came with it (soup, vegetables, duck etc). so i think it was pretty worth it! we absolutely love their gai lan (chinese broccoli). the restaurant is quite big with many tables, and there's a nice waiting area with a fish pond by the entrance. parking is convenient during late hours, but may be difficult during peak lunch and dinner times. overall rating: 10/10 read more

Shrimp / On Choy = Nice sized Shrimp with the On Choy is a tasty dish Chinese Fried Chicken = unlike Popeye's Fried Chicken or Kentucky Fried Chicken , it has no battered skin. 4.5 Stars Hands down, this is probably one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. Every time I come here for dinner, the food comes out hot and always hits the spot for me. The portions are huge--often leaving us with lots of leftovers. I've never really had a bad experience in terms of the food. I love the salt and pepper seafood, house fried rice, and house chow fun. I never fail to order these three dishes whenever I visit because they are just that good. I've also tried the lobster in garlic sauce (?)--my mom loves this, peking duck with pancakes/wraps (I'm not a fan of duck meat, but I enjoy this dish when my family orders it), salt and pepper wings (yum), walnut honey shrimp (double yum), the seafood soup (which is also another favorite of mine), and so much more. Service-wise, they've definitely improved A LOT compared to the past. My family and I have been coming here since their old location by Allianz field and their service then was terrible. Glad that this is no longer the case at their current location. Overall, the place itself is beautiful. The koi pond and bridge are lovely. I would definitely visit again. read more

Holy crap - what a surprise! OK, in full disclosure, I'm Chinese. I grew up eating it at home, and since moving to MN, have had a really hard time finding good, authentic Chinese food. With an Americanized name like this, I never would have gone. Plus, it's in a strip mall in Midway, so never would have been on my to-visit list. However, it came highly recommended by a Chinese grandmother-friend of mine, and boy, was it good! I should say the ambience sucks. It was really busy (and full of Asians) when I went there, but there was trash (e.g., chopstick wrappers, napkins) on the floor. I was prepared for badness. However, the stuffed tofu (shrimp/pork), Moo Sho Pork, chives + bean sprouts and dishes that we got were ALL authentic and amazing. You know how in movies, sometimes the characters always refer to their favorite Chinese takeout location and it's usually this Chinese restaurant walking distance from their apartment and the way they describe it as super delicious especially when you want a night in sitting in front of the TV watching old movies, well Peking Garden is my "movie" Chinese restaurant. They have a wide selection of items kind of like the cheeses cake factory, it's a little over whelming. However, there food is really delicious, nothing fancy, just simple good authentic Chinese food. I only have two pictures but we ended up ordering 5 items. Let's just say our eyes are bigger than our stomachs. We started eating the other items too quickly to be pictured. We got the sui mai, which was good but the first time I had it was way better. A little disappointed this time. Roasted pork, my significant other loves this and it was pretty good! Clams with black bean sauce- always good here, the clams are super fresh, big and juicy, my favorite item on the menu, the sauce is especially good over hot rice. Peking duck- always good here, not the best I've had but good enough for me to have eaten it 3 times. Lastly we always get a pan fried noodle, this time we got the seafood pan fried noodle and it was delicious! Noodles super crunchy and the seafood looked super fresh. I loved this place from the first time I was in it, way before the fire from the unrest forced them to close. I was thrilled they were able to reopen along University at Western Ave, right at the Green Line station. Their food, service and ambiance is just as wonderful now as it was before. I try to eat there whenever I can, and I see that a lot of the families who loved their food have found the new location and are enjoying dinners together. My favorite item, i think, is the egg drop soup, but that can change when next something new there. I do miss the weekday lunch buffet, but COVID pretty well shot down all buffets for a while. First, this is a large restaurant. It appears they can easily seat over a hundred guests. The decor is fantastic, very impressive, Reminded my of reataurants in Chinatown in Manhatten. The menu is extensive. Is you can't find something you like you aren't paying attention. I had the War Bu Sizzeling platter. It was Very good. The service was excellent. I stopped going here some years ago because I didn't think the food was all that good, but after recent recommendations from several friends, I thought I'd give it a try again for carryout. We ordered an appetizer and four entreés for five people. One of our items was noodles cooked dry with shrimp--this came in two packages: a styrofoam tray of plain noodles and a separate container of very soupy vegetable and shrimp sauce. It tasted good but wasn't the non-saucy treatment I'd been expecting. Sichuan cooked green beans were also very saucy; I didn't think they compared well with those at Hong Kong Noodle, Szechuan in Roseville, and Grand Szechuan. I also ordered roast duck chow fun but when we opened it, it was roast duck fried rice. Tasty, but I'd been craving those chow fun noodles. The final entreé was salt and pepper squid. It was crispy but lacking in flavor. Again, HK Noodle does a better job. The one standout was the fried shrimp ball appetizer, similar to what is often served at dim sum. These were crispy and flavorful, and a generous portion of six balls for about $12. I would go back for these but likely not the other items we ordered. read more

The peking duck here is so good here! Thin and crispy skin with juicy meat. I got the "three taste" peking duck. While I liked the duck stir fry, I didn't really like the duck and veggie soup that came with it. As for the salt and pepper squid, it was really really salty. I found out about Peking Garden from a co-worker several years ago, but we went there for lunch, and back when the restaurant was located in Midway. Peking Garden in Midway was what you can call an OG Asian restaurant. You're not there for the service or for the digs (which was seriously dated, btw) -- You're only there for the food and the hours it operated. And Peking Garden was on my short list for restaurants that serve the best Chinese food in the Twin Cities, especially for Cantonese/HK fare. Since the riots from last year cause by the killing of George Floyd, the old location in Midway (by Allianz Field) suffered significant damage and was boarded up, pending demolition and gentrification. I had been worried that Peking Garden was going to close for good, as another minority small business falling victim to the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm glad to say that it's now reopened in the spot that used to be a Vietnamese restaurant and Thai ice cream place. I'll have to say that the interior is pretty impressive, if not perhaps a little over the top. They've got an indoor fountain and a mockup of a pagoda roof in the center of the restaurant. In short, it looks really nice. The biggest downside is parking. While the restaurant was about half capacity, the parking lot was pretty much full. I can see parking will be a big issue once business gets back to normal, since Little Sichuan Hot Pot is also next door and is also a popular restaurant. Anyway, the food. I ordered takeout: honey walnut shrimp, Peking-style pork, and green mussels with black bean sauce. Probably a good 20-25 minutes passed before the food was eaten With regards to the honey walnut shrimp, the shrimp was perfectly battered certainly not overcooked. The mayonnaise sauce was also very good (and is also good by itself with rice with whatever leftovers you have). The biggest issue I had with this dish is that the walnuts were not very well candied. The Peking-style pork sauce was great, sweet, tangy, umami, sour. The pork batter was a bit lacking in texture and the pork was a bit dry. I'm not sure whether the significant delay and continued cooking in the takeaway boxes would have contributed to this. The mussels were also pretty good, but might have been a little overcooked in the packaging. The sauce had significant amounts of garlic and some ginger, and a good number of chilis to give the sauce some kick. Of note, the portions are a bit on the small size, and from what I remember from the last time I ate at the old location, the prices have bumped upwards. However, for a restaurant with offerings such as this, this is about as good as you'll get in the Metro area, without having to venture out to Bloomington's Mandarin Kitchen. It's a solid 4-4.5 if I really wanted to nit-pick. In talking to the staff up front, it looks like the dining space will only be tables and just straight dining. The lunch buffet doesn't look like it'll return (which is good -- the lunch buffet was appropriate for the 1990s/early 2000s, and the food wasn't great when I last had it, and needlessly took up a lot of space). I hope that they will consider running a dim sum service in the future to improve dim sum options in the Twin Cities -- I think the space would be perfect for that. I think that it goes without saying that Peking Garden is a pretty well-established institution in the Twin Cities within the Asian community that serves solid Chinese food. In all honesty, this review is more an update on how the restaurant is doing. For one, I'm glad they're back, and I look forward to seeing what they plan to do with the new location. read more

Great visual ambiance. Mostly pack and loud. The food here is in the top 5 Chinese food for Minnesota. Mostly southern style Chinese food. We normally order dinner for 6 or 8. The food is always fantastic. Service is normally super good. My family have been coming here for almost 20 years and they've only messed up our order once or twice during max capacity with new people and so that speaks volume to how good their services are. The pricing has gone up post pandemic and so this isn't an affordable place to eat anymore, but the food and services are worth it. Dinner for 6 people was $250 in 2023. It's not so bad but now their pricing are competing with other types of venue now. I would recommend this place for some great authentic Chinese food. read more

Wow!!! This new location along with the menu, is a winner. The restaurant was packed on a Sunday evening. Every order we saw go by looked delish. We were seated about 20 minutes after arriving (next time we'll make a reservation). Beef chow fun had perfect wok hei flavor. Bok choy in garlic sauce excellent.
