A strong 3.5 stars for typical american chinese type food. I have been following this restaurant since it was in Vista 20 years ago and it has been consistent. Family and I visited for lunch on a Saturday to take advantage of the more affordable lunch menu. It was busy with quite a few patrons. No piano at lunch so the atmosphere is a bit different than at dinner, much more casual. Ordered three dishes including beef with broccoli, crispy beef and kung pao chicken. Also added the potstickers and upgraded a soup to wonton soup for an extra few dollars. The potstickers were quite good and everything else was just alright. Fried rice accompanying crispy beef only had egg in it. Service was lacking as it seemed difficult to get much attention after we placed our initial order. read more

Consistently delicious food! This is definitely not Pick Up Stix. We come here often with my mother in law. Favorite dishes: Orange Crispy Beef - this is amazing! Husband orders it every. Single. Time. It's not too spicy, and the flavor tastes like actual citrus. Always perfectly cooked and presented. General Tso's Chicken - this one is my favorite. It's mildly spicy - I am a wimp and it's not too much for me. I wish I had the words to explain the sauce. It's savory with some underlying sweetness that supports but doesn't overwhelm the savory part. It's a bit of a flowery description, but it's just SO good! Twice Cooked Pork - the spicy plum sauce is delicious! The vegetables hold their own, but they play the supporting role to the pork itself. I love a sauce that is thick enough to stay on the food as you lift it off the plate, and not so watery that it's a glorified soup. This dish meets the mark! read more

My husband and I have been coming here a bit more frequently, twice within a month! I have to say, I like this place more and more. I'm really getting to know the menu, the honey ginger tea and chili dumplings are my absolute favorite! The service is always wonderful and we always leave happy. The only slight downside is they don't have any dessert! Oh well, the almond cookies they serve with the fortune cookies are still very tasty! The piano player adds something really wonderful to the ambiance. Coming here before Christmas and listening to the holiday music was really fantastic for me. I can be believe we waited 2 years to try Peking Wok. All I can say it was great. We had a group of 8 and they were able to seat us right away. Everyone was really friendly and it was a Saturday night so as an added bonus they had a piano player in the bar area. So it really has a great atmosphere and the food was good. We had their gluten free noodles with a curry sauce. My nieces are gluten free I am not but it was really tasty! We also had their won ton soup, orange chicken, lo mein noodles and shrimp with vegetables in lobster sauce. Portions were great for family style eating and it did not break the bank very reasonable. Yum! Got cashew chicken, sweet and sour pork, fried and white rice and a meal completion B(wonton soup, egg roll, fried shrimp) and it was all really good. They lose a star because they didn't include a description anywhere saying there were mushrooms in the cashew chicken and that was disappointing because my husband hates mushrooms. I really like this place. We were first introduced to this place about six years ago. Loved it!! Did notice that the food wasn't as good for some reason when they are really busy. My only guess is that the oil doesn't get changed often enough on busy days/nights because all of the fried dishes begin to have a fishy taste. Very nice ambiance, and everything I tasted was superb. I had Peter's Chicken (I think that was the name), and I loved the spicy/sweet flavor. Even later, it tasted good when I had some heated in the microwave. Portions are generous, and well worth the price (even PF Changs costs as much or more). My guest had their signature fish entree, and he really liked it (said it was perfectly steamed). The service is friendly and I would definitely recommend it to my friends. read more

Ate here with a group of 5 staying at my home in Fallbrook. Delicious Chinese food. I particularly liked the spicy dishes. We shared all items and passed them around. Cashew chicken and pork string beans were decent, but walnut shrimp, General Tso chicken and Spicy orange beef were delicious. I will come back for more or take out! read more

I have tried just about everything on their menu and have not one meal has been unsatisfactory. Not only is the food full of flavor but the portions are great for families (or guys like me who just like to eat a lot). I've always felt that one of the more important things about living somewhere is that it has a good Chinese restaurant. Luckily for me, after we moved to Fallbrook we found an incredible Chinese restaurant here at Peking Wok. The most interesting thing is the piano with live music. I've noticed it mostly on the weekends, but have seen the pianist there when there's a large group celebrating. My favorite time to come is lunch time because you get to choose your soup, with rice and have your main course. It's nice going to a Chinese restaurant where they have a specific section laid out for vegetarians. They have incredible vegetarian options to boot! I'm skipping over the most important part though... Crunchy wonton strips with sweet and sour sauce and a dollop of spicy mustard and it's complimentary!! They have a cocktail list with some pretty cool cocktails and we have yet to try anything on the food or drink menu that we haven't liked. Everyone at the Peking Wok is always so nice!! My husband and I recently moved into his family ranch in Escondido and have been looking for our favorite restaurants. Today I found my favorite Chinese Restaurant, Peking Wok at 5256 South Mission Road (Highway 76) Suite 303, in Bonsall, CA 92003. My very first impression as I walked up to the door was "What beautiful windows." They are silk Ginko leaves and twigs sandwiched between textured frosted glass, just lovely to look at. The interior is well appointed with clean lines, neutral colors, and a beautiful gold accent panel on one wall, right next to the best pose on an ox statue I have ever seen, and I totally need one of those because my response to my philosophy teacher was that the ox didnt have a problem, the ox was perfectly happy being himself, it was the man who had the problem, so this statue of the ox being happy in himself is just perfect for me. The music was soft acoustic guitar renditions of classic rock songs like Lean On Me and Peaceful Easy Feeling, very nice relaxing dining music. There were regular tables with nicely cushioned chairs, and booths as well, which I prefer due to a physical issue, so bonus points for the booths. The cutlery was actual steel silverware, not plastic, more bonus points there, and the napkins were cloth, which is one of my personal criteria for fine restaurants, so major bonus points for the cloth napkins. My waiter was Shay, a wonderful young man who was attentive, helpful, and more than willing to answer all my questions about the restaurant. I ordered iced tea and asked if the Sweet and Sour Chicken was made with white meat because I cant eat dark meat, and he instantly hopped off to find out. He returned a minute later with my iced tea, and said that the Sweet and Sour Chicken is made with white meat, so I ordered that and an Egg Roll. Then he asked if I wanted soup or salad, which surprised me, I wasnt aware that the meals came with soup or salad, so I ordered the salad and asked what kinds of dressings they had. He said there was one dressing, a plum dressing, so I said I would have the plum dressing. He brought a plate of fried wontons with a bowl of sweet and sour sauce with hot mustard which were a perfect little appetizer much like chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants. A minute or two later he returned with my salad, which I was instantly impressed with because it was made of fresh chopped Iceberg lettuce, not those slimy bagged lettuces and baby greens, fresh chopped purple cabbage and freshly shredded carrot slivers, and several sections of Mandarin oranges on top, so even more bonus points for the fresh produce in my salad instead of those disgusting bagged greens. I couldnt see any dressing, but on the very first bite I was completely enamored with the plum dressing, it was so light and sweet and flavorful, it complemented the salad instead of over powering it, so I asked Shay if I could buy some and he hopped off to find out, and returned a minute later with a 2 cup container and said that his manager said I could buy that much for $3, to which I replied "Oh yes!" and a couple of minutes later he returned with the container of plum dressing for me. The Sweet and Sour chicken arrived, lightly breaded, with carrots, bell peppers, white onions, and pineapple chunks, all glazed in sweet and sour sauce, and again, my first bite was perfection. The breading was light and crunchy, not thick and doughy, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, and the sauce was marvelous. The Egg Roll was also very good, I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I asked Shay if the tall lady was the owner, he said she was the owners daughter, they are indeed Chinese, and these are their family recipes. I am simply in love with this restaurant, its owners and its staff, and will become one of their very regular customers. So with all the bonus points, this restaurant actually gets 10 stars, but the rating thing doesnt go up that high, however, it is above and beyond a five star restaurant. And they really should bottle that salad dressing, they would make a mint on it. read more

This place is gluten free accommodating and the food is just ok. But, if you've got no serious food allergies/intolerances: THE CREAM CHEESE ORANGE WONTONS!!!! (They are all you need in life!!!!) Otherwise the gluten free food isn't as flavorful as the regular food, hence the 3 stars. read more

It could have been because it was mother's day but, whatever the reason, my son ordered the food at 6 and was told it would be ready at 645. I love that they are bringing it out to you because of the pandemic but, at 645 then 7, 715, nearly 730 the email letting him know that the food was ready still hadn't arrived. He asked someone what was going on with our order and they said that they were completely slammed and had no idea they would end up with that many orders this evening. That's great, I'm glad for the restaurant, really but shouldn't customers be apprised of the fact that their food may take a lot longer? There was no notification, nothing. The food didn't come out until 8, a full two hours after ordering and a full hour and 15 minutes after the original stated time. The food was good, my shrimp was cooked perfectly but I didn't really want to eat dinner at almost 8:30. Communication is key. read more

Came in late on Sunday night with a visiting friend. It was fairly empty so we weren't sure if the kitchen was still open but the server insisted we were fine. My friend ordered beef and broccoli and I got the eggplant. The owner came by our table quite often- maybe a little too often, it was agitating my friend a little bit as it seemed like a little too much hovering for her. The food was okay but neither of us thought it was anything special- mine had way too much ginger for my taste and not enough of that "wok crispness" that I like on my eggplant dishes. Menu diversity can be hard to come by in american Chinese restuaraunts, but every meal I've ordered from Peking Wok has been crafted with care towards the flavors and textures specific to each dish. a consistent home run from every corner of the menu! Half duck was perfectly prepared, the Singapore street noodles are peppery and complex, the lemon Breaded chicken was fresh, crispy and well proportioned, and every soup has been satisfying as heck. We had dinner here Thursday night with friends and all 4 of us loved this place. We had family style and everything was very tasty and seasoned perfectly, we had curry chicken, kung Pau chicken, a shrimp noodle dish, corn chowder soup and eggplant in garlic sauce... the ambiance is nice, the lighting perfection, enjoyable piano player, the servers were friendly and nice, always made sure our water glasses were full ... looking forward to the next visit.
