This is one of the hot places to eat in Nashville atm. It's billed as NY inspired Italian. Style is small plates that the table can treat as family style. It's quite expensive for what you get. There were 6 of us and our bill with tax and tip was $500. Nine alcoholic drinks and lots of small plates. Automatically assigned a 20% tip on our party of 6. The great plates we had were shrimp limone, potato croquettes, and pasta with vodka sauce. The ok plates were prosciutto, mozzarella caprese, calamari, and the "Am I at Olive Garden?" plates were the chicken parm (so dry) and pesto fusilli. The other plates we had were not really memorable either. My big takeaway from the evening was the incredible lack of sound treatment in the restaurant. Conversation was nearly impossible to have. It was so live and bouncy in there, I won't return. If you've eaten at Hampton Social, the lack of sound treatment will be familiar. Only got one picture because after this I was too busy eating! I honestly could have skipped everything else and just gotten 5 orders of the gluten free pasta with vodka sauce. The vodka sauce is their most popular item and there is good reason. It was luscious and creamy with a small kick. We also tried the polenta bolognese (just fine), chicken parm (great), crispy garlic potatoes (a little over crisp but the aioli was delicious) and these chickpea puffs (needed more whipped ricotta). I am pleased to say Pelato is the real deal! I came in with a group of 4 on a Tuesday night without a reservation, and it was busy! We had to sit outside on the covered patio, but luckily the weather wasn't too hot and they also had fans to help with the heat. This is a Brooklyn founded Italian restaurant with small plates meant to be shared. I was glad to be here with 4 people so we could try a lot of the menu. We started with the mozzarella caprese style with tomatoes and garlic bread. It was very good and fresh! The burnt broccolini wasn't my favorite, but everyone else enjoyed it so maybe it was me and more a preference issue. The mushrooms were a highlight and very good with breading and served in an oil. The pasta we sampled were all very good, but my favorite was the Campanelle shrimp limone. It was a cream based sauce but not too rich with heavy lemon, herbs and a well balanced dish overall. The bucatini cacio e Pepe was excellent and very authentic (I've eaten a lot of bad versions of it) but this one was great, it's just a richer dish. Our server said it's the most difficult dish they make and has to be executed exactly right or it's bad. We also got the most popular dish, the radiatori vodka which is supposed to be spicy but was mild for me. It was still very good. I really appreciated how quickly our drinks came out, and we ordered a mixture of cocktails and wine (the lemoncello margarita was excellent), and the service was great. The inside of the restaurant is so cozy- the vibe is amazing. Our server, Alex G. was amazing! I also love how you order everything all at once and it comes out perfectly timed. Yeah the food was pretty good!! Idk if I would consider it authentic but maybe definitely just American Italian. I think it's from New York but it had a twang to it? The frozen espresso martini was so good. Can't go wrong there. The other drinks were fine my friends say. I don't know if our server was having a bad day or not but he was a bit sassy and rude about us not being ready to order the second we sat down but either way at the end we were the last ones in the restaurant because they didn't bring out all our dishes so we were just waiting awkwardly for our last dish but our server didn't check in on us so it just kinda looked like we were sitting around. This place is an amazing Italian pasta spot with a great atmosphere. The vibes are especially nice if you're sitting on the patio. Our server was very kind and attentive, but the only downside was that he was extremely pushy with upselling. I understand it's part of the job, but it did get to be a bit too much at times. Food-wise, everything was excellent overall. We started with the cheesy bread, which was absolutely to die for. I was worried that this restaurant would be over hyped given that it is a common recommendation for out of towners and tourists, but it truly met the hype! I was with a group of two other girls and we ordered a couple different items for the table. Burnt broccolini and mozzarella for an appetizer. The burnt broccolini was delicious but the mozzarella is a pass for next time (nothing bad about it but was really just mozzarella nothing too fancy). For meats we ordered meatballs and chicken Parmesan. Not sure if it was our chicken Parmesan but it was definitely really bready and the one item we didn't finish. The meatballs were perfect and came with three in the dish. For pasta we got the pesto and the vodka both were delicious!! Definitely order and met the hype. For dessert we got the jarimisu and the mini ice cream sandwiches. The jarimisu was still slightly frozen but the ice cream sandwiches were delicious. Pelato gets a rare five-star review from me! Four of us went for a weekday dinner and the restaurant was packed, so definitely make a reservation before you go. Our server was Matt and he was part of the reason why our dinner was so excellent. He was super attentive without being a nuisance. He kept the drinks flowing, timed out our food perfectly and had excellent meal suggestions. Our meal: 1. Garlic Bread with Red Sauce - the bread was thickly sliced and grilled, so it was crunchy on the outside and perfectly chewy on the inside. It was super buttery and something I would eat every day of my life. 2. Pelato Salad - all of us loved this salad. I think it was the oregano vinaigrette that really made the salad a star. You usually don't hear someone rave about a salad, but this one was a must-order. 3. Burnt Broccolini - again, all of us loved this. The broccolini may have been my favorite thing I ate. It was perfectly charred and had the most delicious dressing over it. 4. Crispy Garlic Potatoes - good. Hot and crispy but a basic potato. 5. Creamy Polenta & Bolognese Sauce - not what I was expecting at all. It was really flat and covered in broiled cheese. I tasted more Parm than I did anything else. 6. Chicken Parmigiana - really good. Crispy chicken, lots of sauce. 7. Campanelle Limone - for all of us, this was our least favorite dish. I was expecting to taste lemon, but the creamy sauce was too lemony. I would not order that again. 8. Radiatori Vodka - ending on a high note. This was delicious. Who doesn't love a vodka sauce? They recommend 2-3 dishes per person. We decided on this place because my brother had a gift card to here. It's usually reservations only, but they do take walk-ins but it's between a 30 minute to 2 hour wait time and you'd have to wait for a reservation cancellation to get in if you walk in. It's a 2 hour window to sit down and pay for your meal as they're always super busy! It's tapas style, so individual small plates, but it was amazing with the food! Everything was fresh and so flavorful! They make their pasta fresh in house daily. It was very easy to split the food and share. It's really loud in there so you'll have to talk loud if you want to hear your conversation with your group. It's family friendly and it's a highly recommended place. My daughter recently finished her semester at college (with a 4.0GPA) and decided to go here to celebrate - we ordered a couple of dishes per person and share amongst the three of us (we ordered 8 dishes total, which was more than enough for the three of us to share) - it's in Nashville, so expect to park at a paid lot or on the street, it gets busy so reservations are recommended. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves very much. The food was delicious and if you know Brooklyn-style Italian you'll feel like you are at Sunday dinner with your large extended family! The Branzino was so good, we actually ordered one more after we (thought) we had finished our meal....we just needed that one more bite of the Branzino! For dessert we had the gelato which is made on site. The roaming manager recommended it get the bourbon butter pecan - and it was life-changing. Service was excellent, with our waiter being attentive, courteous and on top of things. The manager stopped by our table a couple of times to check in and make sure everything was good. It can be a little loud inside, but if you're from a traditional Italian family, it will just feel like you're at a big family function with people talking and laughing and just having a good time with great food. It's not inexpensive - our bill came to just under $300, but if you want dishes made to order and high quality made by people who care about what they serve you, then you'll understand the value of what you get. Really disappointing night at Pelato, and not because of the food. We had one person at our table who basically got forgotten. Everyone else had eaten and finished their meals and she was still sitting there with nothing. When we finally asked Brian, the manager, what was going on, he told us her food would come out "when it was ready." That was it. It honestly caught me off guard. No "sorry about that," no "let me check on it," nothing. Then I started seeing the exact same dish coming out of the kitchen and being delivered to other tables. At that point I asked Brian how that made sense when we had been waiting so long. He didn't have an answer. He just walked away and disappeared. That was the part that bothered me. I don't expect a restaurant to be perfect. Orders get missed and kitchens get backed up. But I do expect a manager to care when a guest has been sitting without food while the rest of her table finishes dinner. Even a basic apology would have completely changed the situation. Our server was actually very nice and clearly felt bad about what happened. The food we received was good too. This was our first time visiting Pelato. It's a tapas restaurant in the spot where Saint Stephen used to be. Don't let the outside fool you, the restaurant is big. The staff was great, service was top notch, and we loved the food. As with most tapas restaurants, staff suggests 2 to 3 plates per person but that usually ends up being too much food. I suggest 1.5 plates per person. It was 5 of us and we were there for a birthday, so we ordered a lot. We got the Mozzarella Caprese (5 stars), the crispy garlic potatoes (5 stars), the burnt broccolini (5 stars), Polenta Bolognese (3.5), Fusilli Pesto (4.5, loved the bits of veggies in it), Radiatori Vodka (4.5), Campanelle Shrimp Limone (3 stars, super lemony), Chicken Parmigiana (5), and the Torta di Mele (5 stars). Came here with a group of friends for a birthday dinner for the first time. To drink I had the cucumber spritz which wasn't too sweet- very refreshing. Our appetizers came out hot and in quick succession. I tried the burnt broccolini and garlic potatoes, and for my pasta I had the pesto with gluten free noodles. All of the dishes were great. Small plates is so hit or miss because the dishes are small and expensive. I don't know how much of a 'regulars' place this is. If you're in town and want a good meal I would recommend. The waitress, Jade, was very friendly and attentive. The hostess was rude when we were seated. She went out of her way to remind us there was a 2-hr table hold. We called to adjust the reservation by 15 min which showed available online and was told this would cut into our 2-hr table limit. Music is loud so if you're looking for an intimate environment I wouldn't come. They don't have a lot of decorations to absorb the sound. Finally, they do this cheesy trick of lighting a sparkler and place it in a napkin in a cup when you tell them if you're celebrating something. It also happened to be raining and the pergola covering us dripped rainwater on to the table. My thermal comfort was not ideal, but in the end I'm not one to complain about these things to staff. I love the concept of Italian tapas. Take a Spanish concept and apply it to other cuisines? Brilliant. But I am apparently not as enamored as most people are. Unfortunately, I spent more time filming for YouTube than pictures, so I only have three to offer. The main positive here is the service. Krysta did an excellent job. Recommendation is 3 small places and three large, which we followed. You do have to realize it is tapas style, so things are served as they are ready, but Krysta did a nice job of pacing the food, which is a sign of good service at a tapas joint. Atmosphere is interesting. Pricing wise, it should feel more intimate, and this gets plain loud. Only answer. was louder when I went. The food is good, but my rating is more on the food versus value. I feel this stands up to any $50/person Italian restaurant, but not at $100/person. Some of the menu items stood out, but of the places I visited recently in this price point, Pelato ranks dead last. This does not mean it is bad, just that it is not good enough in my book. Thus I rank it average when compared to other options. NOTE: If you look at my reviews, you will see price is not a huge deal for me, as long as the food is up to par. Standouts were the Rav, the Charred Brocolini, and the Bundino. Our friends also got the calamari, which is Brooklyn style. I found this excellent as well, but Google if you have never tried Brooklyn style, as it is very, very Italian and not like the typical fried option. The Procsiutto did Parma was also nice, but very difficult to screw that one up. Cocktails are in the same range as the star bars downtown and I tasted the Sicilian lemonade my girlfriend got and it was nice (not standout, but no issue on the price per value here). I really wanted to like this more than I did. Honestly. But there are so many other choices in this price range. The standard question: Would I return? The answer in this case is no. I wish it had more of those balsamic onions for extra punch. * Chicken Parm - Absolutely perfect. Crispy, cheesy, flavorful--everything you want in a chicken parm. 10/10, no notes. * Meatballs - These tasted just like the homemade ones I used to make with my Italian grandfather. Comforting, nostalgic, and super well-seasoned. * Radiatori Vodka - The pasta was cooked perfectly and had a nice spicy kick, but the sauce was a little heavy on the parm. After sitting for a bit, it got kind of oily with the olive oil separating, which made a few bites less enjoyable. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and kept things moving at a great pace. We never felt rushed or forgotten. Cute bathrooms but kind of disappointing that there are only 2 stalls for such a large, busy restaurant. Some hits, some misses. I think Pelato is probably one of the better Italian spots in Nashville, but not every dish wowed me. That said, if you're a die-hard Italian food lover, you'll probably find a few favorites here. Went for a birthday dinner, and while some dishes were outstanding, the service was lacking. We had looked forward to trying after hearing good things. The Parmesan dip is amazing, and the broccoli was fabulous. What left a bad taste was a server who didn't once ask us if we wanted another drink after our cocktails were finished. I had to ask for new drinks twice. We ordered ravioli, and when a different pasta dish appeared, we had to wait a while to find someone to tell them we didn't order that. Our server then came over to say "no that's what we ordered". Instead of offering to bring ravioli, it was just so awkward, that I said we will just eat this. This was one of the best Italian places I've ever been too. I always "carb up" before my fights after the " weigh ins". The fresh pastas were to die for!!! There was one with lemon that almost made me pass out haha. Stellar service as the waiters were so knowledgeable about the menu and helpful. The ambiance was classy and beautiful. Love the concept. I always enjoy Tapas as sometimes you really just want to have a little of this and that. Our group ordered just about everything off of the menu it seemed. (Multiple of some) We all ordered cocktails and they were just ok. After the first cocktail, we went safer with wine or champagne. My favorite dishes: Burnt Broccolini, Stuffed Mushrooms, and the Chicken Parm. I thought everything else was ok. The Burrata needed more tomato and less cheese.
