They have good small plate brunch. The food was not served really hot. The Fresh-Made House Mozzarella is just a piece of cheese and oil. The Meatballs al Forno have distinctive Italian sausage flavor. Neither comes with bread. The The Garlic Bread was was good. The Tiramisu lacks distinct flavors, but incorporated ladyfingers. This place is an amazing Italian pasta spot with a great atmosphere. The vibes are especially nice if you're sitting on the patio. Our server was very kind and attentive, but the only downside was that he was extremely pushy with upselling. I understand it's part of the job, but it did get to be a bit too much at times. Food-wise, everything was excellent overall. We started with the cheesy bread, which was absolutely to die for. We also ordered the crispy zucchini strings --they were decent but nothing too standout. The melted parmesan that came for dipping the bread was phenomenal and honestly one of the highlights. We decided on this place because my brother had a gift card to here. It's usually reservations only, but they do take walk-ins but it's between a 30 minute to 2 hour wait time and you'd have to wait for a reservation cancellation to get in if you walk in. It's a 2 hour window to sit down and pay for your meal as they're always super busy! It's tapas style, so individual small plates, but it was amazing with the food! Everything was fresh and so flavorful! They make their pasta fresh in house daily. It was very easy to split the food and share. It's really loud in there so you'll have to talk loud if you want to hear your conversation with your group. It's family friendly and it's a highly recommended place. Went on a Saturday at 11:00am- made reservations. Our server was super friendly and the service was great. The manager even stopped by our table to make sure everything was great. This was our first time visiting Pelato. It's a tapas restaurant in the spot where Saint Stephen used to be. Don't let the outside fool you, the restaurant is big. The staff was great, service was top notch, and we loved the food. As with most tapas restaurants, staff suggests 2 to 3 plates per person but that usually ends up being too much food. I suggest 1.5 plates per person. It was 5 of us and we were there for a birthday, so we ordered a lot. We got the Mozzarella Caprese (5 stars), the crispy garlic potatoes (5 stars), the burnt broccolini (5 stars), Polenta Bolognese (3.5), Fusilli Pesto (4.5, loved the bits of veggies in it), Radiatori Vodka (4.5), Campanelle Shrimp Limone (3 stars, super lemony), Chicken Parmigiana (5), and the Torta di Mele (5 stars). I've been to Pelatos twice now and it has always been just good enough. Not bad but not amazing. Parking situation is not great. The atmosphere is buzzing. Think really bright lights, loud, lots of people moving around. Not my ideal dining atmosphere. The patio looked really nice and less hectic/more quiet. This past time I didn't have a reservation so I had to get in where I fit in, at the bar. Bartender was nice and chill. I came for the cacio e pepe. It actually hit the spot. It was perfectly peppery and the noodles were cooked exactly like they were supposed to. My problem was the serving size. I think I took all of 8 bites and just like that my dinner was done. I also ordered the cauliflower piccata. While I loved the buttery lemon sauce, the dish was strange and heavy, due to the fried breading. Lastly, the food comes out in which ever order it wants to so I got my appetizer 10 minutes after my pasta. A bit odd. We really enjoyed our food. They recommend 2-3 dishes per person. For a group of 3 we ordered: calamari, vodka pasta, meatballs, broccolini, chicken parm, and eggplant bread. All of the dishes were great. Small plates is so hit or miss because the dishes are small and expensive. I don't know how much of a 'regulars' place this is. If you're in town and want a good meal I would recommend. The waitress, Jade, was very friendly and attentive. The hostess was rude when we were seated. She went out of her way to remind us there was a 2-hr table hold. We called to adjust the reservation by 15 min which showed available online and was told this would cut into our 2-hr table limit. Music is loud so if you're looking for an intimate environment I wouldn't come. They don't have a lot of decorations to absorb the sound. Finally, they do this cheesy trick of lighting a sparkler and place it in a napkin in a cup when you tell them if you're celebrating something. Well at one point half of the restaurant has these flairs burning so it smelled like smoke. No congratulatory dessert, just a sparkler. They would be better off not doing this at all. read more

This restaurant is tapas style, the ambiance is moody, traditional looking Italian restaurant decor. The service is quick but paced so you can enjoy each entree as it comes out. The burrata crostini is lovely and so is the burnt broccolini but it does not pair well with pasta in my opinion. The vodka pasta, chicken parm, meatballs and the bourbon butter pecan gelato were all amazing. I love the concept of Italian tapas. Take a Spanish concept and apply it to other cuisines? Brilliant. But I am apparently not as enamored as most people are. Unfortunately, I spent more time filming for YouTube than pictures, so I only have three to offer. The main positive here is the service. Krysta did an excellent job. Recommendation is 3 small places and three large, which we followed. You do have to realize it is tapas style, so things are served as they are ready, but Krysta did a nice job of pacing the food, which is a sign of good service at a tapas joint. Atmosphere is interesting. Pricing wise, it should feel more intimate, and this gets plain loud. Only answer. was louder when I went. The food is good, but my rating is more on the food versus value. I feel this stands up to any $50/person Italian restaurant, but not at $100/person. Some of the menu items stood out, but of the places I visited recently in this price point, Pelato ranks dead last. This does not mean it is bad, just that it is not good enough in my book. Thus I rank it average when compared to other options. NOTE: If you look at my reviews, you will see price is not a huge deal for me, as long as the food is up to par. Standouts were the Rav, the Charred Brocolini, and the Bundino. Our friends also got the calamari, which is Brooklyn style. I found this excellent as well, but Google if you have never tried Brooklyn style, as it is very, very Italian and not like the typical fried option. The Procsiutto did Parma was also nice, but very difficult to screw that one up. Cocktails are in the same range as the star bars downtown and I tasted the Sicilian lemonade my girlfriend got and it was nice (not standout, but no issue on the price per value here). I really wanted to like this more than I did. Honestly. But there are so many other choices in this price range. The standard question: Would I return? The answer in this case is no. I did love the service, the idea, and a few of the dishes, but I can easily get similar at a place without the high price point. I was convinced by our waiter to order the parmesan sauce for the bread and I would not recommend it. We were seated on the patio and although there were space heaters it was a bit brisk. It also happened to be raining and the pergola covering us dripped rainwater on to the table. My thermal comfort was not ideal, but in the end I'm not one to complain about these things to staff. I would recommend eliminating patio seating in bad weather or applying a sufficient rain screen. My visit ended with tiramisu and oh my goddess it was tasty! As far as the service goes, I think it was pretty good for dinner time. Our server seemed busy, but came by as often as possible. When we wanted to swap the dishes we had already ordered, my boyfriend was able to flag down another staff (possibly the manager?) who swiftly made that change, which was great to see. The ambiance can get lively, especially on a weekend night. We got the Rigatoni & Italian Sausage, Campanella Shrimp Limone, Potato Croquettes, Buratta Crostini, Limoncello Margarita and Frozen Espresso Martini. My boyfriend was a big fan of the Frozen Espresso Martini, even calling it his favorite among all the restaurants he has been to. As for the appetizers, the Buratta Crostini and Potato Croquettes were so yummy! Luckily, they each came in threes so we were not that full before our pastas. The Potato Croquettes tasted like fried mashed potatoes in a ball which was essentially like carbohydrate heaven. It tasted the best when dipped into the garlic aioli. We ordered the Garlic Bread with the melted parm sauce to start and for drinks we had the Pelato Breeze and Sunset Park. The Sunset Park is a mocktail which I really appreciate they have a good non-alcoholic selection. For our entrees we got the Radiatori Vodka pasta and the Campanelle Shrimp Limone. Our server was so sweet she recommended the Campanelle dish as our second entree. Both were so delicious in their own right. My personal favorite was the radiatori vodka but my friend favored the campanelle so you can't go wrong! We also had the Crispy Garlic Potatoes and Burnt Broccolini as sides.
