I've always loved Pelato--the food is always great. Unfortunately, my experience this weekend was disappointing. I went with 7 of my girlfriends, and we felt very rushed. We were in and out within 30-40 minutes, even though we ordered several rounds of drinks. The most disappointing part was my interaction with the manager, Brian. I politely mentioned that I thought my martini was made with gin instead of Ketel One. He took the drink, put his nose in it, told me I was "100% wrong," and walked away. Whether I was right or not, I don't think that's an appropriate way to speak to a customer. Our waitress was kind and did a great job, but overall I was disappointed by how the situation was handled. read more

We came here for my friend's birthday and this place did not disappoint at all. Each dish we got was very delicious and we had no complaints. It's rare to visit a restaurant and end the night saying that everything was absolutely wonderful. There was a variety and burst of flavor with each dish. Compared to LA, this is on par with the best Italian restaurants there. I would definitely recommend this place. I've been to Pelatos twice now and it has always been just good enough. Not bad but not amazing. Parking situation is not great. The atmosphere is buzzing. Think really bright lights, loud, lots of people moving around. Not my ideal dining atmosphere. The patio looked really nice and less hectic/more quiet. This past time I didn't have a reservation so I had to get in where I fit in, at the bar. Bartender was nice and chill. I came for the cacio e pepe. It actually hit the spot. It was perfectly peppery and the noodles were cooked exactly like they were supposed to. My problem was the serving size. I think I took all of 8 bites and just like that my dinner was done. I also ordered the cauliflower piccata. While I loved the buttery lemon sauce, the dish was strange and heavy, due to the fried breading. Lastly, the food comes out in which ever order it wants to so I got my appetizer 10 minutes after my pasta. A bit odd. Pelato is a lovely Italian restaurant in Nashville! There is a rustic vibe inside for people to enjoy. Moreover, there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. As far as the service goes, I think it was pretty good for dinner time. Our server seemed busy, but came by as often as possible. When we wanted to swap the dishes we had already ordered, my boyfriend was able to flag down another staff (possibly the manager?) who swiftly made that change, which was great to see. The ambiance can get lively, especially on a weekend night. We got the Rigatoni & Italian Sausage, Campanella Shrimp Limone, Potato Croquettes, Buratta Crostini, Limoncello Margarita and Frozen Espresso Martini. My boyfriend was a big fan of the Frozen Espresso Martini, even calling it his favorite among all the restaurants he has been to. I thought that the Limoncello Margarita was fine (it is a tequila cocktail... which is often a miss for me but I get it to feel a buzz quicker, haha). As for the appetizers, the Buratta Crostini and Potato Croquettes were so yummy! Luckily, they each came in threes so we were not that full before our pastas. The Buratta Crostini had so much fresh buratta on it... I loved it! I do wish there was more of a tomato spread on the crostini. The Potato Croquettes tasted like fried mashed potatoes in a ball which was essentially like carbohydrate heaven. It tasted the best when dipped into the garlic aioli. I got the Campanella Shrimp Limone as my main entree and I thought it tasted like it said it would: creamy lemony. I do wish there was another flavor to the pasta, like garlic and butter? And I wish I had asked for more parmesan. The shrimp were cut into small pieces which was nice, but I thought that they were cooked a bit too long. This restaurant is tapas style, the ambiance is moody, traditional looking Italian restaurant decor. The service is quick but paced so you can enjoy each entree as it comes out. The burrata crostini is lovely and so is the burnt broccolini but it does not pair well with pasta in my opinion. The vodka pasta, chicken parm, meatballs and the bourbon butter pecan gelato were all amazing. All of our food was fresh and hot and we got to the restaurant around 8:30 pm and the close at 9pm but we were able to stay and enjoy our meal. read more

This is family-style dining so you can order more variety of dishes. To start- you must get the garlic bread with melted parm! Why have I never tried melted Parmesan dip before?? Oh and the crispy garlic potatoes OMG how are they so crispy and gMy all time favorite dish was the Campanelle Shrimp Limone! I could eat that everyday for the rest of my life. The flavor was so vibrant and rich! Chefs kiss* I also really enjoyed the pesto and vodka sauces! Everyone in our party raved about the freshness, flavor and quality of everything at Pelato. Desserts were spectacular! Torta Di Mele carmalized apple upside down cake with vanilla gelato- WOW!! My favorite was the pistachio gelato, the best I've ever had- hands down. The service was wonderful, our waiter was patient and attentive without being overwhelming. And the manager went above and beyond to get my husband the macros of each dish he ordered. We had a large party with multiple last minute changes and they kindly accommodated our requests. With a party of 12, they did have a $60 min per person. But that wasn't a problem! Yet again here I am seeking out a restaurant that specializes in small shareable plates and Pelato did not disappoint. It was absolutely incredible. We ordered the Garlic Bread with the melted parm sauce to start and for drinks we had the Pelato Breeze and Sunset Park. The Sunset Park is a mocktail which I really appreciate they have a good non-alcoholic selection. For our entrees we got the Radiatori Vodka pasta and the Campanelle Shrimp Limone. Our server was so sweet she recommended the Campanelle dish as our second entree. Both were so delicious in their own right. My personal favorite was the radiatori vodka but my friend favored the campanelle so you can't go wrong! We also had the Crispy Garlic Potatoes and Burnt Broccolini as sides. The baked ziti was delicious with ricotta cheese. We shared some garlic bread and a traditional Italian salad. Wow. Another great dining experience at Pelato. This time with some out of town friends and they were truly wowed. The vodka pasta did change a few lives, it's a MUST order. (P.S. great gluten free pasta) Our server, Mandy, was very attentive and let us put in endless rounds of food and drinks! The food was disappointing. It came out in a weird order with salad coming last. The salad was bland. The meatballs were overworked making the texture sticky. The baked ziti was dry, we only ate one scoop and then did not want to take it home. Chicken parm was rubbery. Homemade mozzarella was not impressive, just rubbery and bland. Inside it was loud, hard to hear conversation at the table. Not very child friendly. They did offer spaghetti with butter which my kids liked, but beyond that, nothing else was child friendly. Servers put anything hot or breakable in front of my two-year-old. Servers seemed overwhelmed and not responsive to families wanting to order fast and leave promptly. I wish we had been offered a table outside where it would have been calmer and more comfortable with kids. They post the policy in the menu that they will ask you to leave if sitting at the table for over two-hours, which is offensive. They also require a card for reservations and charge you if you don't show up. We will not return and I am surprised the reviews are so high. read more

I went to Pelato for my birthday this week and it was delicious. I was unfamiliar with their "small plate" design going into my reservation, but did enjoy getting to try many different menu items. My group had the meatballs, radiatori vodka, fusilli pesto, ziti, garlic bread, and chicken parm. The meatballs were incredible, especially the sauce and we really enjoyed the radiatori vodka and fusilli pesto as well. The chicken parm was also very flavorful and the largest plate of food we received. As for the garlic bread, it's oddly served on seeded bread and came out a bit stale tasting and the ziti could have used more sauce to meet my personal preference. As for service, we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our sever went over the "small plate" design and recommended 2-3 plates per person. My group of 5 ended up only ordering 7 plates and all had plenty of food. Personally, it felt this idea to order 2-3 plates was a bit too highly encouraged and nearly felt pushed upon on us in a not so positive way. In fact, we had the unfortunate experience of having our waitress talk about us with another worker and motion toward us in a negative way because we had only ordered 7 plates, as if that could not possibly be enough. In my opinion, the food was truly delicious but I just didn't appreciate being judged for not ordering the "ideal amount." As for ambiance, the restaurant is very cute and consistently had a crowd. They are pretty strict on their 2 hour only policy as I noticed signs posted but they bring out your food pretty quickly so it wasn't a problem for us. read more

I found Pelato on Yelp and was skeptical initially that it would live up to the hype, but I was presently surprised. It was tough to get in at last minute but seating at the bar was available. The restaurant was bustling, it was pretty noisy I will say but not so much so that you couldn't hear others speak. The food was outstanding. Every dish I had was made to incredibly high level of quality. From the pasta to the broccolini and the dessert, overall I was impressed. The restaurant has in-house made gluten free pasta. Everything is small plate style, you place your order all at once and the yummy just keeps on coming. Ricotta bread was amazing as well as the garlic bread with the heavenly Parmesan sauce. So good you just want to put it on everything. We shared three different pasta dishes and the chicken parm which was my favorite of all the dishes. Everything was so fabulous. Service is top notch and you have one waiter but the food is delivered by a line of worker bees as soon as it's ready. The kitchen and restaurant operate very efficiently. Decided to bring in our third anniversary at the fairly new Brooklyn Style Italian spot in Germantown, Pelato! The vibe and decor has a modern industrial feel, with soft lighting, a mix of seating options, and old-school photos and decor. The vibe is slightly cafeteria-like with all the cinderblock walls, but it added to the character of the place -- and in addition to the interior, they have a wonderful covered patio! The only minor downside was the indoor chairs, which were a bit uncomfortable, and maybe a bit tight on space with one too many tables. But that's a small issue compared to everything else. Now to the food - stellar! The menu offers a tapas/family-style experience, with small plates, meats, pastas, fish, and desserts. Highlights were the burnt broccolini (absolutely phenomenal) and the Pelato salad, which was fresh, crisp, sweet, and tangy. We also tried the meatballs, which were unexpectedly spicy but delicious, and the Pelato ravioli, which was perfect. To finish, we rounded out our meal with the vanilla bean gelato! Service was wonderful too. They welcomed us with a "Happy Anniversary" greeting, and Tala, our server, made sure we were well taken care of. Although there's no dedicated parking, there is a paid lot nearby and ample street parking in the neighborhood. No substitutions because chef say it ruins the experience. Calamari half were crispy half were soggy. My wife ordered arancini to start never got it. If I can recommend just one thing to get from here, it would be the Vodka Pasta. We decided to try this place out based on so many recommendations on social media, almost every video I came across said to try out Pelato. While the plates are small, it's meant to be shared family style and you can try out other dishes. Drinks - Brooklyn Brewery Lager: My husband ordered this drink to try out, he said it tasted pretty good. - Apple Ginger Spritz: I was really wanting to try out their famous Espresso Martini, but I knew I would be up all night if I got it, so I asked our kind waiter what he recommended regarding cocktails on the lighter & sweeter side, I decided to go with this. I really enjoyed this drink, it wasn't too strong, but tasty and really great with our dinner. Appetizers - Fresh House-made Mozzarella: While I loved the idea of the house made cheese, it wasn't our favorite. It was good, and glad we got to try it, but will not be ordering again. - Street Style Arancini: I was looking forward to these, and I loved the sauce it came with. One of the better Arancini that I've had. - Potato Croquettes: My husband wanted to get this because he said it looked good, and while we all enjoyed it, just like the mozzarella it just was't our favorite. Meats - Meatballs Al Forno: This was what my husband said he would come back for, my father in law and my husband devoured this meatball. - Chicken Marsala: My mother in law wanted to order this, while myself and my husband din't necessarily enjoy this, she did. I thought the cutlet was too thin, and the sauce was a little too salty. My husband wasn't a fan that there were more mashed potatoes than chicken that you can barely tell there was any meat on the plate. Pastas - Radiatori Vodka: ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! It was creamy, the kind of pasta that was used was the perfect choice for it because the sauce was able to get into the little crevice of the pasta. It was creamy and all around chef's kiss! - Bucatini Cacio E Pepe: We all liked this pasta as well, I think my father in law enjoyed it more than the rest of us, he loved the cracked black pepper in it. Dessert - San Gennaro Zeppoles: I would skip on this dessert, it was a nice ending to our dinner, but it was just missing something in the middle since it was a little dense. A light filling inside would have been good, but overall it's not a bad choice just wasn't our favorite.
